@Ulysses polished cinematic? About fifteen seconds of thrown-together gubbins with a filter and then some scrolling text?

That's not to say that it isn't a planned campaign but if so that video would have to have been made to deliberately look thrown together at the last minute.

After installing Chrome to see if that made the video playable for me (it did) I can conclude that it's utterly terrible. The 1984 link doesn't work AT ALL. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I remember there being some hoo-ha about the 30% fees for microtransactions back in the dim and distant. Perhaps it was them being extended to microtransactions rather than initial purchase fees or something.

@datamonkey historically the argument wasn't about the principle of the royalties but how excessive they are. 30% is extremely hard to justify and is only really possible because of the dominant market position.

Annoyingly I can't get the video to play. I'm wondering how Epic is positioning itself in the story of 1984 as I can't really see any way of doing it that isn't extremely fraught with difficulty.

It'd be a nice way to troll Apple if Epic started funding the other sides of various Apple petty legal cases, like that recent one with the pear logo.

@Coach_A don't see how, unless you're specifically arguing against the aspect of consumerism that is reskinning Nintendo Switches rather than consumerism in general. Would seem a bit of an odd stance to take but then we are all morally complex beings who hold all sorts of views that would appear mutually contradictory so I'll give you that.

@Coach_A it doesn't justify it, it is it. You're inventing arguments I'm not making. Getting a secondary Switch because it looks pretty is as pointless and unnecessary as drinking tea and coffee. And yet, look at the things we all get up to.

The white bits on my Animal Crossing joycons have all gone a kind of grubby red, which is a shame.

Now that Nintendo will have a vast dataset of islands for analytical purposes it'll be such a waste if they don't feed it into a deep learning system to see what hellscapes it can come up with.

If the loading screens aren't a series of vocal warmups it'll be a wasted opportunity.

@darkswabber it is certainly more of a philosophical question than a biological one. I mean, arguably mammals lay eggs they just do it into a special environment they carry around that negates the need for a protective covering and food store as nutrients can be secreted directly onto it.

@TheFatPlumber The system update fixed the drift on my two brand-new controllers, the controllers themselves didn't need an update. But yes, they only update over USB but I can't remember the last time I had a pro controller firmware update.

Guys, this particular issue is nothing to do with people being careless with their Pro controllers or them being badly made - prior to this update they were drifting when fresh out of the box. After the update they aren't.

I just had two pro controllers drifting out of the box and if you check recent Amazon reviews loads of people have. I'd not returned them yet so took one out of the box and tried again - now fine!

The Independent has sound environmental principles such as not being commercially viable to print.

Hopefully it'll be possible to pick up the limited edition Switch in the shops somewhere tomorrow.

I don't mind these things in theory, I just wish they didn't take up quite so much space in shops. Last time I was in Forbidden Planet in Cardiff they were practically an entire aisle.

Ethical conundrum: assuming nobody is being deprived of anything, is it worse to cheat to obtain something of no value or to cheat to obtain something of value?

Cheating in games like this baffles me anyway. I remember being really excited at getting some sort of hack for an RPG game, giving myself infinite money and instantly losing interest in the whole thing.

Presumably the whole lot is getting reset when the final thing is released anyway.

@Dogorilla yep, absolutely bewildering some of the comments. It would be a great bit of extra colour if the differences between male and female reflected the differences in the various animals that inspired the pokemons but would be a huge amount of extra zoological research. That said, I'm happy that they didn't just add long eyelashes to the female 'mon.

Whew. This all certainly falls into the nuance-deficit arena. "you break the rules and you get fired/go to prison". Amazing how many people roam free after loading music into their iPod, driving at 31 in a residential area or pissing about on the internet in work after signing a contract agreeing they won't.

And also, athletes that cheat rarely get a lifetime ban for a first offence. Lifetime ban does seem a bit harsh.

I dunno. You can sometimes get leniency for driving bans if it'd prevent you from earning a living and hence cause significant hardship. Sounds like a similar principle to me.

NintendoLife people - have you done any tests to see how strict the Internet connectivity is? ie; if your wifi is a bit spotty does it block you the instant that it drops?

What an absolutely mad system. Am I right in thinking that digitally purchased games will only be playable on the purchasing account on the non-primary system? I can see they'd want to avoid concurrency but physical copies prevent concurrency and have the advantage of being usable by any account.

@LoveEmpath you're wrong, it's an opportunity for growth, to explore the actual meaning, history and implications of censorship, and the idea that a hatred of censorship means that either every comment has worth or no comments have worth. I lean towards the latter.
