Looks like iLife bought up a patent related to a defunct product for monitoring elderly people to automatically check when they fall. A good idea to use accelerometers for this task from the originating company, as previous alarms relied on the elderly person pushing a button, not possible if you're unconscious.
However, I can't see how using accelerometers in this way is in any way patentable as it's the whole purpose of accelerometers; to measure the movement of things! Seems the same as using accelerometers in magnetic HDDs to lift the head off the platter if the laptop is dropped.
@Nincompoop it's probably because Switch dev kits haven't been available to indies for long, so only those with games that have done really well on other platforms have the resources to port their games so quickly.
It's been difficult to get one in the UK for at least 6 weeks now, as that's how long I've been looking. I have been checking stock tracker websites every few days for a neon one. I think I'll just have to pre-order from somewhere or see if game really have stock for the bundles.
Of the three people I know with them; one is a Nintendo fan who got it on launch, one is a PC gamer who got it a few weeks after launch and one has never owned a console before and got it a few days after launch.
I was tempted to get it on launch day, but still have a big game backlog, so talked myself out of it!
These adverts have made the lightbulb finally click on what Nintendo are trying to do with 1-2 Switch: A video game where the video bit is not important.
I love that as a concept, we've come so far with controller features that they can take centre stage instead of a screen.
I must be a bit dumb as it's taken me long enough to get it!
Looks great fun, I was a little surprised by the loading screens in the video though for a game not on an optical disc. Is there a reason for this, maybe it's not a final production version?
My opinion is that the decision to split voice chat from the console to a smart device is purely down to Nintendo's desire to be able to sell the console as child friendly. A non-technical parent may find it difficult to disable chat features directly on the console, or prevent their child from enabling them.
I'm sure you can imagine the bad press and the 'sad face' photo of a parent saying that their innocent 7-year old was sworn at & verbally abused until they burst into tears on Splatoon 2 'a brightly coloured cartoony game designed to appeal to children'.
Simple design choice, user replaceable batteries makes the internal design more complex & typically take up more space. Nintendo chose to go for a sleek design instead. Anyway, if Nintendo can replace them at their workshop then other electronic repairers will do it too, like your local phone repair shop, and there will be YouTube videos and aftermarket supplies for a long time if you fancy dong it yourself.

To avoid the problem of bundling a game that some don't want I would have loved to see Nintendo include a maybe $20 gift card with the Switch that could be used for anything in the eShop or exchanged for a physical copy of 1-2 Switch.
I'm getting much lower ticket rewards than some of you, today I got 10 from the big block, 5 each from the long & single block, 1 from the ghost house bonus, 0 from the matching blocks bonus & 3 from the pipe bonus game. That's only 24. I guess I might get a bit more if they recharge again today. Are these particularly low?
I'm enjoying the game, probably played about 5 hours now. The bulk of the time in Toad Rally, then replaying levels to get all the coins. I've deliberately only finished up to world 4 to stop from rushing through the game. I think 8/10 is a fair score and £8 a fair price. £8 might seem expensive compared to other mobile games, but it's also good value to me compared to e.g. a cinema ticket or a takeaway pizza. All I know for certain is that it's the best value Mario game on iOS!
My iTunes voucher is already purchased and sat on the coffee table ready to buy this next week. I expect this to be similar to New Super Luigi U, short snappy levels and a great sense of satisfaction timing jumps perfectly.
I'm sure Nintendo know marketing better than I do, but a basic multiplayer pack in game (like a limited maps version of Splatoon) on the all versions of the Switch would be fabulous. I know they want to push people to the higher priced bundle, but Wii Sports was great & it just leaves a bad taste if the headline priced console doesn't offer good value, forcing you to buy the higher priced option.
Looks good fun, it's always a great feeling in 2D Mario games to just jam the direction pad to the right and hit all the jumps perfectly to finish the level. I'm also perfectly fine with Nintendo getting paid millions of dollars to make this iOS exclusive for a few months. De-risks the project for Nintendo who are still very new in this market.

I'm fine with $10 I think there should be a market on mobile for old fashioned pay and get all content.
