2017, when BOTW launched, was also a huge year with a ton of great games released including Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Divinity II, Hollow Knight, Nier: Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Cuphead to name a few.
I completely agree that the graphics are not up to par when compared to many of the Switch's other big games. This does not mean that the game is terrible. I find it to be much more engaging than the last several mainline games, and I think this could be an interesting new direction for the series as a whole. I would love to see a more traditional Pokemon game with gyms and more traditional trainer battles made with these mechanics and a large open world. That being said, I don't understand why the biggest media franchise on the planet can't attract the talent necessary to make a more polished final project. Are they rushing to get these games out and therefore putting out something that is not as polished as it should be? Is the technical talent just not there? There must be tons of talented developers eager to work on a Pokemon game - what is stopping Game Freak from hiring them?
I played BOTW at launch and besides the excitement and wonder of the initial moments starting up the game and playing through the plateau, one of the things that stands out to me all these years later is Eventide Island. It was just a really fun, different, and unexpected moment in the game, and I would love to see more moments like that in BOTW2. I'd also agree that I'd love to see a return of more traditional dungeons and more fleshed out world - as well as a deeper, more Skyward Sword-esque relationship between Link and Zelda.
This is just crazy to me. At one point in early 2020, they were releasing information on this game every couple of weeks. At that point, I figure it was for sure coming in 2020. I can't believe it's suffered from so many delays.
I prefer the style of the more recent trailer. The games really weren’t on my radar after seeing the original trailer as I never played Diamond and Pearl as a kid, and I wasn’t thrilled about the chibi-esque art style, but the more recent trailer makes me want to give it a try.
I'm surprised that it has been delayed so many times as for a while (possibly back in 2019 or early 2020, it's been so long that I can't really remember), they were putting out information on the main characters and their Digimon on a nearly weekly basis. It really seemed at that point like the game was right around the corner, but we haven't received any updates (beyond the delays) in a long time. I'm really looking forward to it, so I hope that the delays make the game worth the wait.
@Hydra_Spectre I have Persona 3-5 on PlayStation consoles - I’d just prefer to see P4G get a remaster (or even just a port honestly) rather than Arena. Hopefully some of the other 6 announcements are more appealing to me personally.
I got sucked back in for the Halloween update after playing pretty heavily in March and April, and then not picking it up for a while. I hope they continue to expand it. As long as they want to keep putting out content, there will be an audience.
I was part of one of the closed betas, so I've spent a lot of time with the game. I think that if they had just made some of the enemies look a little less similar to BOTW, and changed up the music at points, it wouldn't have been the controversy that it ended up being. The gameplay really isn't that similar.
I'm not as thrilled with the new art style. I had been looking forward to it, but maybe not so much now. Hopefully the preview next week changes my mind.
I wouldn't mind every company doing their own Direct-style presentations, independent of E3, in the future. I just feel like, given the circumstances this year, most companies have had little to show thus far due to COVID delays.
The Origami King looks so pretty, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I know the most recent entries haven’t been as well received as earlier games in the series, but I just love the art style of Origami King, and I’m excited to get my hands on it.
Gematsu is reporting that a rep for Bandai Namco US has confirmed it is still on track for 2020, after this week's issue of Famitsu included TBA as the release date.
This is really unfortunate, as the game looks gorgeous, and it was one I was really looking forward to this year. I hope they aren't just overhauling it to remove the original characters and paste in the characters from the anime.
I figured we were close to a release date, since they've been releasing character profiles over the last several months. There has been a slowdown in information, but I attributed that to COVID.
@tamantayoshi it’s fine that you dislike the character personally, and you’d prefer to see another - I just don’t think that Nintendo ‘dropped the ball.’ And it’s especially annoying to see so many people, not specifically you, whine and complain when months ago after Banjo/Joker/Ridley everyone was all ‘Sakurai can do whatever he wants I’m happy now.’
Personally I like Byleth, and I could list a ton of Fire Emblem characters I’d love to see in Smash, but I also understand the argument that the series is well represented. Personally, I’d like to see Rex/Pyra or Sora added in the future.
@tamantayoshi I think it's a little ridiculous to claim they've 'dropped the ball.' The game itself has been one of the most successful, if not the most successful, on a console that has outpaced expectations. Further, between Joker and Banjo-Kazooie, Nintendo managed to make the release of DLC into pretty big events.
Not every fighter can please every person, but I'd gladly take Byleth, Claude, Dimitri, and Edelgard - and I'd still have a list of characters from past entries who I'd love to see in Smash. Everyone has different tastes, but with how popular Three Houses was, it's not shocking they'd add Byleth.
@BenRK But this is different than FFVII and FFIX. This was pitched as a remaster, more along the lines of FFX and FFX-2 - which did receive a physical release.
I know it doesn't make up for the lack of an actual physical release - but this Etsy seller put together boxes for Final Fantasy VII, VIII Remastered, and IX, and you can't tell the difference between one of these and an actual Switch box. I picked up all three, and they look great on the shelf - very high quality.
When is it releasing is all I want to know. This looks gorgeous, and there’s a huge lack of TRPGs. Digimon was so important to me as a kid, but the games have never been my thing, so I’m hoping Digimon Survive will be as good as it looks.
@Semudara I understand as I am waiting too. But what’s a few more months? I’d rather wait and get a good game than get a half finished one soon. Animal Crossing as a series has helped me through difficult, stressful times in my life, and I’d hate for the employees working on it to be subjected to crunch to rush it out for 2019.
I don't understand why some people are so upset about this. Like yeah, it's a bit of a bummer that we expected it this year, but 2019 has a fair number of awesome Nintendo titles to look forward to, and it's a short delay of just a few months. Sure, early 2020 is packed with awesome games, but that's a great problem to have.
I’d gladly buy Tokyo Mirage Sessions again, but what I really want is Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD on the Switch. Nintendo should remaster Skyward Sword and bundle the three of them as the Zelda HD Collection or something.
I don’t understand how ‘sluggish’ sales can possibly be an issue. It’s outsold all other systems combined in Japan for weeks and Switch sales in Japan have increased each week for the last three weeks at least according to MediaCrate. I suppose sales numbers could be poor in the US, and that could be what this refers to, but I’m just not buying that.
The games lineup I am more inclined to understand - there’s no doubt E3 did not meet most people’s expectations. However, Pokemon and Smash are definitely two HUGE games that will do well, and it’s not like the rest of the lineup of games is terrible. Plus, indies have consistently performed above expectations on the Switch and will continue to do so.
Personally, I’ve been using my Switch much more than I was at this point last year, and I couldn’t be more excited for Octopath and Captain Toad next week.
Unless there is something investors know that we do not, I feel like people are selling their stock because they think Nintendo can’t do any better than they have the past year, and they want to sell high, and that’s what’s caused the price to drop. From where I’m sitting, it’s a great time to be a Nintendo fan, this year looks great, and there is more to come next year.
I really didn't initially love Xenoblade 2, but over 200 hours later I'm still trying to complete every last part of it. I will admit that the game is far from perfect, but I enjoyed the characters and the combat. It's definitely packed with content.
I haven't run into any issues yet - and thankfully completed the side quests and blade quests without having to wait for the patches.
I will say that I was hoping for a better blade management screen and better odds for receiving rare blades from this patch. I have two rare blades left and just can't seem to pull them.

Re: Talking Point: So, Who Could Play Link, Zelda, Ganondorf In The Upcoming Zelda Movie?
I think Thomas Brodie-Sangster from GOT for Link and Hunter Schafer from Euphoria for Zelda.
I love Timothée Chalamet and Tom Holland, but they are everywhere at the moment and neither screams Link to me personally.

This in and of itself doesn't likely mean anything - but all signs currently point toward a more powerful revision.
