The obsession with resolution is really a paradox for me. While I want Nintendo to be competitive this generation with other systems, I personally do not care about how shiny and crisp it looks and I'm sure there are others like me who grew up on NES games that agree.
@Robo-goose The Gamecube version required an entire memory card to play and was packaged with one. AC games have always been pretty big because of all the text and items and holidays.
I don't know if I'll be getting anymore of these now that I've gotten to the million coin goal unless there's some new one that is like 8 bit retro or something like that.
@PeterW77 I'm sure you do. I'm talking about having to hang out with these like 12-13 year olds on AC. Makes you think to yourself, "Just exactly HOW did I get into this game again?" lol
@PeterW77 Tell me about it. I'm 30 and it can be kinda frustrating sometimes being an Animal Crossing fan and hanging out with kids talking about One Direction and Justin Beiber. :/
I'm glad that the model homes and dream mode aren't just for Streetpass. I was worried it would be and I'd probably never get to experience them that way.
@Tsuchinoko I know it wouldn't take a big system update to put GBA games on the server and that's why I said that all the commotion about the eShop maintenance being GBA games didn't make sense. In honesty, it was probably so they could update NSMB2's coin rush mode to link with the eShop.
I don't think NA is getting a Nintendo Direct and I doubt that they would do a huge system update to allow GBA game compatibility without making it a world wide thing so I'm taking this with the tiniest grain of salt.
Even though I'll be picking a few of these up, I do wish it weren't just coin rush stages and was full, actual new worlds in the solo play game, that way I wouldn't have to just run through them like a bat out of hell and could take my time and actually explore to find secret blocks and star coins.
I just wish we didn't have to speed through these new levels because of the time limit. I hate that about Coin Rush. Yes, I understand that that is where the "rush" part comes in, but I'm not a fan of being rushed myself.
La-Mulana looks cool, but I don't really buy downloadable stuff for the Wii anymore. I wish it had come to 3DS eShop, which judging by this week's haul could have used a good game.
I'm not into Pokemon, but even I know how huge the series is. If Nintendo had decided to release both Black and White and Black and White 2 on the 3DS, obviously that would have shifted more 3DS systems, right? Hardcore Pokemon fans would buy a new system to play the new game. Sometimes it seems like simple business logic eludes Nintendo.
It all looks great, price is reasonable, but I'm going to wait a while for a couple of reasons. #1: I don't have an HD TV so there's really no reason for me to geek out about the graphics like a lot of people are. #2: No must play games just yet for me. Mario looks nice with the SMW-inspired map and all the Miiverse extras but it's just not something I HAVE to have right now. I would say I will be getting a Wii U around April-May of next year (tax time).
@Ulala What's that walrus thing? Is that from Super Princess Peach or something? I can't remember that. BTW, imo Super Princess Peach could have been OH SO MUCH better than it was. I was left wanting more graphically and level-design-wise. You can definitely tell Nintendo didn't develop that.
@gundam00 I thought 3D Land had some of the most unique and memorable new enemies that the series has done since SMW. And they're called Biddybuds, tyvm.
I liked it, but I've never loved it. I find it odd that if you look at a lot of message boards and YouTube comments, you'll see (usually obviously younger) people clamoring for a sequel. Must be a nostalgia thing, as I'm sure a lot of people who are in their late teens and early 20's got started on Mario with this game. Personally though, I don't really see a need to ever revisit Isle Delfino.
I think I only liked it when I was younger because of the lewd sex references, cursing and poop jokes. If I recall correctly, I never got very far in it when I rented it.
Until smartphones can deliver a rich gaming experience that is NOT a time-killing puzzle game, RPG, or shooter, I won't be jumping on board. The lack of actual buttons is the kicker for me. As a fan of platformers, you just can't comfortably play one with virtual controls. It's not precise enough.
@Klyo I've wondered that too. I have this feeling it would have been a lot like Super Mario 3D Land and less like NSMB since that was back in the era when Nintendo liked to experiment with their games more so than just recycle past successes. I must say though that even though these modern 2D Marios are essentially just rehashes of the original DS game at this point, they're still fun and I look forward to NSMBU. After that though, if Nintendo does another home console I would hope that we can lay NSMB to rest and come up with a more original and unique 2D Mario experience in the future.
@Hejiru Nintendo itself apparently does not want it or they would have produced one since Super Metroid (not counting Zero Mission and Fusion). And I would only want Retro to take it back over if they wouldn't do another first person Metroid. The original Prime was great, but I never got into 2 and 3 because 2 had that annoying dark world where you died the whole time you were there and 3 had the hyper mode gimmick thing that I also found unenjoyable. I want either a 2D or 2.5D Metroid and Other M was as close to that as we've had in years and years.
I personally would LOVE a 3DS version of Other M. Yeah, some people griped about the story or whatever, but that particular version of Metroid would have worked GREAT on a handheld as far as game play goes. I feel like if Other M had been a launch title for 3DS (and maybe not had one particular cutscene that people had to complain and complain and complain about), then it would have been a huge hit. While I was playing it, I thought to myself, "This would make a great handheld game."
@47drift I wouldn't mind if they continued to release free DLC items in Animal Crossing at all. I wouldn't, however, want to pay like 5 bucks for a new furniture set.
If they really wanted to push the downloadable version in North America, they should have released it yesterday on the eShop with the regular update. Mario fanatics wouldn't have been able to wait with the temptation being there of getting the game three days early!
@kingofe3 With the eShop games before, we're talking 5-10 dollars each. With games like NSMB2, we're talking 45. Also we don't have an option to buy games like Pushmo from a retailer, but we do have the option to pick up a physical copy of NSMB2. I totally understand where those people who are wary of downloading these very expensive retail games without some sort of purchase history account are coming from.
Also I really do feel that Club Nintendo should also serve as a cloud to store purchase information. I'm really kind of on the fence about whether or not to download NSMB2 at midnight on Saturday because while it would be nice to have the game earlier than some people and to get the 50 coin bonus, it's also intimidating because if I lose my 3DS or it gets stolen then POOF, it's gone. 40-something dollars wasted. This wouldn't be a problem if Club Nintendo were what it should be: Nintendo's version of iTunes.
@grumblegrumble I agree. From around Christmas time last year to about March or April or so, it was at least one quality game each week, but now they're really slacking and putting out a lot of shovelware/expensive iPhone ports it seems like. I almost dread to see what we'll be getting in North America tomorrow.
As long as Kid Icarus remains a touchscreen-controlled game, I won't get into the series. Just playing the 3DS version like 3 times for an hour each time probably gave me carpel tunnel syndrome.
Ouch. They're really banking on Paper Mario and Layton to carry the 3DS this holiday season (NSMB2 is out way too early to make a huge dent at Christmas), which isn't the greatest idea, I don't think. Both are niche games that don't enjoy massive sales. Castlevania could have netted them a lot of hardcore gamers. Kind of a shame.
I never checked out the first one. Is this just standard puzzle game fare or is it pretty unique? The only puzzler I ever really got into was World of Goo, so when it comes to these kinds of games, I'm hard to impress.
I thought for a minute about getting it digitally but that's a LOT of space and if I traded in a few 3DS games I don't play, I could probably get it much cheaper.
This is terrible, awful, horrible news. What if the 2012 predictions are right and me and everyone else all die without ever playing it? UGH. EFF words.
I find these round tables hard to read because of the changing narration and not really knowing who is who. I think it would be a good idea to maybe record these as videos and post them in that way.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting SMB2 on the list. I get so frustrated with all the hate it seems to get. It's one of the most unique, clever, and fun platformers I've ever played.

Cool.

Re: Retro City Rampage Trailer is Full of Old-School Cool
Uhm, why release something on WiiWare when Wii U is a month away? Or will the Wii U eShop be like the 3DS' and contain both WiiWare and WiiUWare?
Re: File Sizes Revealed For 3DS eShop Retail Downloads
If it wasn't confirmed before, it is now: I will be purchasing the PHYSICAL copy of Animal Crossing.

Ultimate Animal Crossing. The amount of new content is incredible.
Re: Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion Coming to Europe in 2013
Since they've delayed Dark Moon so many times now it better be a LONG game play experience or I'm gonna be so disappointed.
