Re: Rocket League Ditches Randomised Loot Boxes In Favour Of New 'Blueprint' System

Crikey - it's a developer actually moving positively to remove loot boxes, without being forced to do so.

The rest of the gaming industry (cough..EA EA EA...cough) needs to take a look at this as an example of providing clarity on microtransactions as opposed to the ludicrous "surprise mechanics" roulette we have today.

Well done, Psyonix. Now, just make sure you don't ramp up lootbox prices in the meantime to compensate. We'll be watching.

Re: SNK's New Neo Geo Might Not Be What You Were Expecting

Well, the Capcom stick hybrid was a difficult sell because of the price, and the fact you can grab a Pandora for around the same price with pretty much all of those titles on there.

The Neo Geo Mini has crappy output to HDMI, doesn't it? I can't see too many buying this for using the stick on their existing Mini.

So that boils it down to the quality of HDMI output, game lineup and price on this to make it viable for everyone else. It's a nice looking stick, so hopefully they can tick those other boxes too.

Re: The Witcher 3 Switch Port Started Development Just 12 Months Ago

Regardless of how you think this version compares to other ones, sometimes you just have to shrug and say 'well done'

The Switch will always be fighting a losing battle on the tech front against the other consoles of this gen, making it all the more vital that ports are of a high standard.

To get this game to this level in 12 months and running on Switch sets a benchmark over what devs should be aiming for. It's really incredible and well worth supporting CDPR with my hard earned cash.

Re: Hands On: We've Played Witcher 3 On Nintendo Switch, And It's A Work Of Magic

I'm really struggling with the criticism of this port. Not all of us have a PS4 Pro or high-end PC to play this. Not all of us have a TV to play it on that isn't being sabotaged with Power Rangers or Scooby Doo 94.7% of the time

Perhaps the biggest thing for me though - is frame of comparison. I've seen a lot of people being a bit down on this port because it doesn't run anywhere near Ultra PC settings performance. Whilst there's absolutely nothing wrong with that opinion, I'd say there's quite a few people out there in the "I was/am still a serious gamer, now I only get to blast on my Switch whenever i get some time" camp.

And surely that's who this port has aimed at? If you're a serious current gamer, you already have the optimum kit and time on your hands to play this already in it's best possible form, and that's awesome.

I've never played Witcher 3 before, and will not have a PS4 or PC for the foreseeable future, let alone 100 hours free to sit in front of it and experience it that way. So this works for me, and gives me a way to experience one of the games of the decade in a much more consumable manner. Love!

Oh, and it's a bonafide technical miracle it's running on Switch! I have to support CDPR just for that.

Re: Astral Chain's Combat Was Possibly Inspired By Pokémon

This is going to be an absolute stonker! PlatinumGames have an impeccable track record, so I'm expecting big things. Was lucky enough to get in on the Limited Edition Pre-order also which looks beautiful.

Seriously, how lucky are we as Switch owners to be able to play AAA exclusives like this on the go? The next few months is going to be very exciting indeed!

Danmaku Unlimited 3 (£4.04) and Vasara Collection Pre-Order (£4.49) for me this week. TATE mode, Flip Grip compatible shmup fix = satisfied for cheap!

I also managed to somehow get a pre-order of Astral Chain Limited Edition on ShopTo earlier today, so I'm putting my wallet firmly away for a while!

Waiting for Fire Emblem to become available on CEX online to use up some of my stacked credit. Currently occupied with Mario Odyssey, Steamworld Heist (Stupendous game!) and BoTW Season Pass whilst all of that rolls around.

Re: This Fully-Functioning Calculator Course In Super Mario Maker 2 Is Utter Genius

fuzzyspud

This is so cool!

Honestly, I've never really fully understood the appeal of the SMM series from a creative standpoint - I just don't have it in me to create great courses.

However, I now feel that I really should give it another chance to play some of these incredible courses that seem to be churned out on a daily basis at the moment. Value for money doesn't even come close to covering the content I see produced from this game!

Re: This Super Mario Maker 2 Player Has Already Created A Full 32-Course Game

Have to say that I've not been too excited about SMM2, but these type of threads have nudged me to fire up the Wii U original and see if it's my thang. I'd probably be a consumer rather than a creator, but if folks are creating full games and producing levels like Downwell already, then I might have to take the Blue Pill and see what the appeal is!
