@Dezzy70 it's a nice idea, but because so,so many people are still against the LBGTQ community these things still need to be said. When people stop being selfish and judgmental - which won't be anytime soon - then we can have what you described.
Until then unfortunately, we have to keep pushing for it to become more normalised and accepted. Small steps like this from Nintendo help.

@Zuljaras exactly. It's not artificial scarcity: they make as many copies as are ordered in the pre-order window, and no more. Sounds pretty sensible to me: make as many as you've been paid for and no spare ones!

@Silly_G well yes, but to me, the point of a physical cartridge is that you put it in your system, and can play the whole game with no bother. GTA trilogy on Switch won't actually contact the whole trilogy and is therefore pointless as an 'I must have the physical version' item. Especially as there won't be a manual or maps either!

@Silly_G exactly. And the physical releases require a download anyway rendering the whole 'physical' aspect of it completely redundant.

@GamingFan4Lyf @XenoShaun some of these wads are years old, all released for free by their creators, for people to play on their paid for version of Doom. How is this any different to that? The creators get a boost on having their work more visible and more people playing. There's no way an extra free wad is going to push anyone to pay all of £3 for Doom if they haven't already.
I think it's great what they are doing, finally letting console owners experience some of these map packs.

Can I also just point out the amazing work Panic Button have done on this: it's not just TAG1, but they've updated the main game and improved it quite a bit. Performance is better. Graphics are sharper. Just brilliant.

@fafonio exactly! It's not pay to win at all! You can pay if you want, but don't have to: and paying doesn't alter how good your kart/driver is in multiplayer anyway

Doom Eternal is an outstanding port. I’ve literally just completed it on ultra violence and will be starting a Nightmare run next. I have the game on pc and PS4 also and it has honestly lost bugger all in the translation to Switch in terms of gameplay and enjoyment:)

@TheFullAndy If you thought the main campaign was a slog then avoid the DLC at all costs - it is much harder!

@King-X Well my personal advice is to play the game! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed 30 hours of it so far and only spent £5. The gacha system is entirely optional - I’m playing through with characters I’ve unlocked through regular gameplay.
It’s a beautiful and funny game.

The data breach is problematic of course - I assume they’ve fixed it now?!

@Papichulo I didn’t say I was standing up to anything - that must have been someone else’s post. In fact reading your whole reply to me i think you got the wrong post - I didn’t mention animal crossing or Pokémon! Neither of which are crap btw.

Anyway I couldn’t care less if the guy sells it or not- my initial point was surprise that NL was highlighting it. I’d have commented if they were highlighting a ROM site in the same way.
But, just because Nintendo didn’t do what you want them to doesn’t make it legal for someone else to do it and sell it. It’s a simple point - I’m not debating whether it is ‘right’ or not, just whether it is legal.

And if you had actually ‘read’ my posts instead of spewing your own garbage (see what I did there) you’d have noted that I haven’t at any point said that the bloke shouldn’t be selling the booklet, or indeed that Nintendo shouldn’t have made one themselves - I was just questioning out of genuine interest, if this particular item was legal and if NL should therefore be linking it.

@Thirteen1355 well because the seller is selling something containing protected IP. It is all Nintendo designed characters using Nintendo made graphics sold for profit that isn’t going to Nintendo isn’t it?
I can’t write a Star Wars novel for example and then sell it - it is illegal.
Maybe this is legal but I highly doubt it. As I said, I’m sure Nintendo’s lawyers would argue it isn’t legal. There’s a simple reason all the Mario characters are copyrighted and this comes under that remit surely?

So on the other foot - what makes you think it IS legal, out of interest?

There are always worse things going on somewhere than whatever is being discussed here on a video game website - that isn’t the issue. Nobody here is ‘morally crusading’ either from what I can see.
It is a valid point that the Etsy seller - undoubtedly like many others Etsy sellers - is profiting off Nintendo’s IP without their permission, and that it looks like NL is promoting the work for whatever reason.
I’m sure IP law will back me up here as would Nintendo’s lawyers.
That’s all. Nobody is claiming it is the end of the world, or that is a worse issue than coronavirus and all the other nightmares going on right now!!

@Papichulo Again, it’s not so much that it is available- my original point was that I was surprised NL was promoting it. And what exactly is wrong about standing up in a small way to someone making money off the back of someone else’s work?

@NPC411 I’ve not noticed the Etsy links b4 but I’ll be looking out for them from now: I was genuinely surprised to see it on NL as I generally feel this is a nicely run website.
I agree that Nintendo should have done a manual - doesn’t make it right that someone else does it and charges £11 for it.

I’m really enjoying it tbh. Looks bloody great on my phone and perfect for lunch breaks. Spent hours on it so far without spending any money at all so the gacha/ftp mechanics don’t get in the way of progress as far as I can tell.

@BenAV exactly what I came here to say! Nobody is forcing anybody to buy it - vote with your money and the practice will stop. If enough people pay £45 it then it won’t. Simples.

Why did that commercial need a ‘special’ director? It wasn’t even a good advert. Honestly I wish companies would stop mindlessly throwing money at big names just for the sake of it.

@Beaucine absolutely right. A pure, fun, arcade racing game which gets to extreme speeds. It was brilliant then and it’s still brilliant now.

@JSDude1 cheers: my point still stands though that a physical cartridge is now nigh on pointless when updates over the eshop add enhancements and functionality. You can buy this cartridge but it won’t have multiplayer for example..

@vio exactly. £60 for a plastic box and a cartridge that you still need the eshop for (for the updates) is just daft. I was really pleased when I went ‘physical’ with the Witcher, and with Doom but the updates render the initial cartridge purchases pointless.

@Nintendo_Thumb oh yes you are quite right - not blaming Nintendo. And I wouldn’t have a problem with burnout (to take a specific case) being £20 or so: I realise it costs money to adapt a title for Switch. But on no account does it take as much time and effort to port a game as it does to develop the game in the first place, which is why I have an issue with EA charging full price for a port of a 12 year old game. Same goes for Bioshock, x-com etc etc. To be clear the only issue I have is “don’t be daft I’m not paying that”

@mesome713 Nintendo is the best yes but £49 for a burnout game from 2008 is taking the piss. As is £30 for Cat Quest.

@Stocksy the one thing all the ‘complaining’ posts seem to have in common is ‘this is all garbage I refuse to download it shocking disgraceful terrible game’
I’ve played it for half an hour a day since release, spent absolutely nothing on it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. And yes I have MK 8 on Switch.
The in app purchases are an option. Nothing more. Don’t know why people are getting so bent out of shape about it...
