Re: Apple iOS Update Adds Support For Switch Online Classic Controllers

flatspikes

@Nicknb3 I have been scouring the web about this too. Found a comment on Engadget saying the same, they connect and show correctly but never work. Crazy how many publications have this story but never actually tested it themselves. Neither my Genesis/MD pad or N64 one work. My Xbox Series S controller works like a charm, must be something missing in the retro pads.

Very annoying to see this promoted.

Re: SEGA Mega Drive Control Pad For Switch Is Back In Stock On My Nintendo Store (UK)

Been waiting an age to get one. It’s highly expensive as a functional device and not worth £40, however as a piece of history I have to have it! Nintendo-Sega mash up like never before in a physical form, it still blows my 90’s mind. I also have a couple of Megadrive minis and a Genesis mini too but suspect this will be of no use there due to the lack of Bluetooth on those consoles. Still it’ll all look nice together.

Re: Nintendo Gamers Prefer Using Switch As A Handheld Rather Than Docked

Handheld and docked in the house. Handheld and table top on long trips away. As others have said the type of game is important, two player generally better on the TV. Stuff like Sonic Mania and the Neo Geo stuff handheld all the way.

This chart shows how right Nintendo were to give people options. That said a £199 handheld only deal might come in the future. Or perhaps a build your own bundle deal: Left colour, right colour, base unit. Then: pro controller, case, dock & game maybe?

Re: Review: LEGO Worlds (Switch)

I'm having a 7/10 experience with this so far. I love real Lego that helps so lots of possibilities with this between me (37) and my son (6).

Handheld is a bit disappointing (blurry) but the other performance issues haven't caused too much pain. I actually thought the draw distance was good, maybe I've played too much Mincraft on Vita?

Re: Review: Super Mario Bros. (3DS eShop / NES)

A cynical cash in (£4.50!) or a great way to enjoy the classic? Like others I'm confused why the NES is a featured system, surely handheld VC on a handheld? The 3D remakes however I have no issue with, just shame this isn't likely to be one of those 'classics'.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st March 2012 (Europe)

flatspikes

The PEGI / ESRB rating are compulsory for Sony/Nintendo but not Apple? Can anyone explan how that is fair? It still doesn't explain the £3.50 on Wii and the £4.50 on 3DS. I'm also concerned that when WiiU pops up I'll once gain be asked to rebuy...

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st March 2012 (Europe)

flatspikes

£4.50 for a VC release on a handheld is crazy. I feel like Sony and Nintendo really don't get digital pricing. I'm loving my 3DS but will be seriously limiting VC purchases as there are better value ways to play (NES Cart for one).

Re: Review: Kirby's Block Ball (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy)

flatspikes

I bought this the day it came out on VC. As part of my plan to build up games I can't experience on PC & iOS this hits the spot. The music graphics and ever evolving gameplay are great. I think a 7 is very fair but I'd still give it an 8 after 4 hours play.

It's a pity it's only in B/W but don't let that put you off for £2.70 it's a must buy! I'm unsure if there is a better VC game at that price point ?

Re: Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3

flatspikes

I have to admit my Wii is on everyday and so is my PS3... the PS3 gets more time per game but the Wii gets more plays!

I guess I should just be thankful I can have the best of both worlds! Just need more time now!

Re: Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3

flatspikes

I love the greater online integration that the PS3 has such as friend lists, home, chat and trophies plus the Wii Shop could learn alot from the game demo's and trailers. Bluray is a great bonus but it was really about the different type of games for me, unlocked a different gaming experience (and 'new' retro access too!).

Upgrade again is the offending word here, I find the two systems to be complimentary offering a rounded gaming experience. The price of the PS3 is still heavy at £260 vs the Wii at £170 but that gap did used to be wider!

Re: Sony Expects Wii Owners To Upgrade To PS3

flatspikes

Sony really aren't great at modesty, although I guess this is a fantastic PR exercise as it gets people talking about their brand and product. I'm a PSWii or a WiiS3 (whatever) gamer and don't really think of it as an upgrade but as access to a different type of gaming.

The games I use on my Wii are mainly Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, My Life As A King, lots of retro downloads and old GameCube games. My Wii fills the retro and easy fun side of my gaming life. The PS3 is a more serious affair with games like inFamous, Resi 5, SFIV and Uncharted taking up vast amount of gaming time in one go.

The important thing is I've not sold my Wii! Retro Nintendo games, innovative motion control games, key Nintendo franchises etc. will never appear on the PS3. Likewise the 'heavy' games don't tend to appear on the Wii (although I just bought Mad World!) so the PS3 services that need.

I think it's the 'upgrade' language that causes the problem here...

Re: Review: Mighty Flip Champs! (DSiWare)

So maybe not the turning point after all... will be interesting to keep an eye on the Metacritic score... Still I'm probably going to grab this if I can scrape the points together... As for the Art Style debate it's just got Nemrem to beat for me as that's the one I play most.

Re: Henry Hatsworth Gives Australia a Miss

@KDR_11k - doesn't seem to be in Germany my brother looked for it out there (he lives there now) but bought it when he was last over here. A quick look at ebay.de shows a good number of UK sellers offering it for a reasonable price...

Re: Retail Success Eludes GTA: Chinatown Wars

flatspikes

This is potentially a real blow... I haven't had so much fun with a DS game before it seems I'm in a minority! I've tried to persuade my other DS owning friends to buy this too but none have so far! Guess this will shoot down the chance of any more GTA games on the DS then...

Re: Review: Kirby: Canvas Curse (DS)

I loved this game initially but the game play became repetitive and tedious eventually and I stopped caring... shame really as it looks so nice and plays in a unique way. I'm very much on my own with this opinion though!
