The European Nintendo Download Update is live, and features new releases across the Switch, 3DS and Wii U. There are some interesting choices, and a lot of discounts to also consider (along with some weird HOME Themes on 3DS). Let's get to it.
Nintendo Switch eShop
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (WayForward, €16.99 / £15.99) - The HD debut of this iconic franchise arrived on various systems including the Wii U last year, and now gets its chance to impress on the Switch. Stylish and full of flair, we enjoyed this a lot in our original Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Wii U eShop review.
Shock Troopers 2nd Squad (Hamster, €6.99 / £6.29) - An overhead run-and-gun title that shakes things up a little in comparison to the original, including the option to jump into vehicles and go through levels with increased firepower. As an ACA release this will also have extras such as screen filters, game customisation options and global leaderboards.
3DS eShop
I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii (Sonic Powered Co., €14.99 / £13.49) — There's a proper game title for you, seizing the crown as possibly the longest on the 3DS eShop. As it explains, you are an air traffic controller, and a hero, in Hawaii. We gave this a modest recommendation in our review.
Of Mice and Sand (CIRCLE Entertainment, €7.99 / £7.89) - Developed by Arc System Works, this seems like a quirky real-time management sim where you try to support mice working within a 'mobile fortress', improving facilities and capabilities to attract more mice to the vessel.
Mysterious Stars 3D: A Fairy Tale (Collavier, €6.99 / £6.29) - Previously released on DSiWare, we gave it 3/10, so have our doubts that it's the next big thing on 3DS.

Wii U eShop
Cubit the Hardcore Platformer Robot HD (Coderchild, €1.99 / £1.79 if you own the 3DS version, otherwise €4.99 / £4.49) - This is challenging platforming where music plays a prominent part. This title previously arrived on 3DS and was quite good, and this HD version promises alternate endings and guest characters among its selling points.
Block Zombies! (Nostatic Software, €5.49 / £4.59) - As the name suggests this one has blocky visuals, and adopts a top down view as you use a whole lot of weapons to resist zombie hoards.
SPHERE SLICE (RCMADIAX, €1.49 / £1.39) - This utilises the GamePad touchscreen as you slice spheres (it's all in the name) by swiping your finger across the screen, an idea popularised by Fruit Ninja on mobile devices.
Wii U Virtual Console
Blazing Lazers (Konami, €5.99 / £5.39) - In the TurboGrafx-16 era this was held up as a top-of-class vertical-scrolling shooter, a visual showcase when released in 1989. That will sell the game to some already, and we did enjoy it back in the day in our 2007(!) review for the Wii Virtual Console version.

There are plenty of choices in this week's update - let us know what you'll be downloading in the poll and comments below.

Voted nothing for me and that's still not the most depressing vote I'll make today.
So... what happened to GoNNER?
Disappointed that GoNNER got delayed but at least I can look forward to Half-Genie Hero as I held off on the Wii U version.
I've have bought Shantae if it wasn't for the fact I bought it for the PS4 for £4 a few weeks ago.
Shantae was really good, I recommend it to anyone who doesn't have it yet on another platform.
As I said in the American thread, it's a poor week especially if you've already played Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. It's worse actually in Europe. I'll buy Never Alone but that's pretty much it.
I remember a time when I could something on that poll, now its just nothing.
Was hoping for some kinda first party sale seeing as its E3 soon, maybe next week.
Still haven't used my Wii U code for Shantae from Kickstarter but with the Switch version now out I'd rather play on that.
Wonder if I could ask for a platform change?
Still need to play the first 2 games though.
The only thing that I'll be buying is Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero nothing else here interests me.
@FX102A WayForward have already stated you can't switch (pun not intended) to a different platform. Same goes for the free DLC content that will be released later on.
Nowt for me
@ThatNyteDaez It was pushed back for some reason. No releasedate has been given.
How long is Shantae?
It looks absolutely gorgeous and seems to have good reviews. Is there enough to play?
Has anyone tried Grand Prix Rock 'n Racing?
@Timppis According to HLTB; Shantae takes about 6 hours to complete which seems to be the norm for downloadable platformers these days.
@Kiz3000
Seems good to me. Shovel Knight took even less than that.
I didn't know what HLTB was, because in finnish that's almost the same acronym as LGTB
But that site looks really good for me. Good to learn new things.
Double dipped on Shantae. Loved it on Xbox last december, love it so far on Switch! My 13th game on the system I might add, which is already miles ahead of what WiiU did for me in its entire first year.
@PtM Yeah for some reason the Italian (I think?) listing gets its own entry in the official press release.
@Timppis No problem. I use the site when I am undecided on a purchase. Obviously everyone plays games at their own pace so it is best to compare it to a game in the same genre that you have played.
Personally I compared it to Shovel Knight to tell me that Shantae will last me as long as Sovel Knight did as they are both listed as 6 hours on a normal none completionist run.
I'm so glad the Wii U is getting all those TG-16 games now that I've put it back in it's box and moved into the Switch. I mean where were these games during those long droughts before the Switch launched?
@ThatNyteDaez it was due out last week then they bumped it to this week now it's TBD, so think that's gonna be a while now.
Cubit for me.
@BulkSlash Always try and keep one generation behind still plugged in and ready. Switch/Wii U and PS4/PS3 all plugged in here
Oh definitely, I've got pretty much everything from the NES onwards still plugged in, that's one of the reasons I've got no room for the Wii U at the moment! I'm considering getting the PS3 Test model that has full PS2 and PS1 back-compat which should save me some desk space...
Definitely want Shantae - but I've already got a backlog of platformers on Switch. I really can't complain about the release schedule. Have to knock off Wonder Boy at least before getting another platformer.
Shantae goes without saying. I was also curious about GoNNER, but so far it has troubles even with being a coMMER.
Nothing for me. Will hope E3 brings me some stuff to spend my balance on.
