Mega Man X is my favorite series of all time, with X1, X2, and X4 being darn near perfect in my book. However, robot master/maverick refights at the end of Mega Man/Mega Man X games are just filler that just amounts to a slog of a time waster. I realize this is just part of their DNA and will likely continue as long as the series does, but I wouldn’t be sad to see them go.
If they have to stay, I like how X1 handles them where they are staggered fights throughout the final stages. It breaks up the monotony of fighting all eight at once.
I had to go with the NA/European version, but I like the Japanese version as well. This is my favorite game of all time, so the NA box art holds a special place in heart.
Can… can we just turn this mini game off? I still remember the blister I got in the center of my hand from the original Tug o’ War (and other similar mini games.) Plus, I don’t want to put that kind of strain on my controllers again. I can’t believe it made it into the final game.
Of the games left that could reasonably be added, Super Mario RPG is at the top of my want list. Seems so strange that it (and Earthbound) are still missing.
My long shot hope is still Rockman and Forte since they aren’t afraid to release Japanese only games on the non-Japanese NSO services. Capcom didn’t include it in either Mega Man Legacy Collection, so it’d be a cool way to make the SF/SNES version of this game available to other regions.
Still my favorite console of all time. Being from the US, I prefer our version the most. I understand why people prefer the Super Famicom/PAL version, but I’ll always love the purple and lavender color scheme. There’s just so many classics on that little box.
Most of the time I pick the water starter (last two gens notwithstanding.) However, they picked what are probably my favorite fire and grass starters in the entire series, so this is going to be really tough. I honestly don’t know who I’m picking!
Sonic Mania is what introduced me to Tee’s music and I’ve been a fan ever since. When Sonic Mania first released, if I wasn’t playing the game, I was listening to the soundtrack. Tee’s album Youniverse is also great for anyone who wants to hear some of his non-game related music (although his influences are clear.) I’d love to hear him do the soundtrack for a Mega Man game!
Rockman and Forte (Mega Man and Bass) would be a nice addition since Capcom left it out of both Legacy Collections and Nintendo has shown it’s not afraid to put Japanese games on non-Japanese NSO catalogs.
@BlueOcean Totally agree on an OLED Switch Lite. And maybe an ambient light sensor? Seriously, that’s actually what I miss most on my Switch Lite. It baffles me they left that off of a handheld only device… Even the New 3DS’s have that!
I think I’m going to stick with my Lite + 2017 Switch combo for now. I was really hoping to move to one Switch, but this upgrade hasn’t convinced me. For me, improved Joy-Con would’ve been the deciding factor over improved internals. I play about 95% of the time in handheld mode, and personally, the Switch Lite is the most comfortable way to play in handheld mode. I owned an original Vita and eventually sold it for the Vita Slim because, while the OLED screen was incredible, the Vita Slim was a much more comfortable. I’ll take comfort over a better screen.
11/12, pretty good! I thought the name Revolution came out in 04, not 05. I thought it was the Wii by E3 05. That is still the most hyped I’ve ever been for a console (until the Switch.)
Kiwi! I received Atomic Purple for my birthday, but the speaker gave out shortly after I got it. When we went to return it, they were out of Atomic Purple so I got to choose a color and went with Kiwi. I wore that GBC out. Such good memories!
1. Mega Man X 2. Donkey Kong Country 2 3. Super Mario 64 4. Pokémon Yellow 5. F-Zero GX
Now there are definitely games in the last decade that stand out as absolute gems and I consider incredible games. Sonic Mania, Super Mario Odyssey, Halo 4 (yes, really), Celeste, and Shovel Knight to name a few. Just none that crack my top five. Sonic Mania is the closest a game has come though… what a game.
I’d love to see Apple and Nintendo collaborate so that Nintendo could use A series chips in the Switch rather than Apple make their own console. It will never happen, but it would give the Switch an incredible boost in power.
Probably my most unpopular opinion in gaming is that Pokémon Snap (the original) is an incredibly boring game that was only meant as a tech demo to show off Pokémon in 3D. I tried the game multiple times at friends houses, rented it a few times, and I never could get into it or see the appeal outside of “Pokémon, without the gameplay, but in 3D!” Even being a massive Pokémon fan, it just wasn’t for me.
With that being said, I am SO happy this exists for the many many fans who have been wanting a new entry for so many years. I’m happy to see it getting such good reviews too! This is a side game I never thought we’d see again and I’m so happy for all of the Pokémon Snap fans who finally get a new game. 😊 It gives me hope as an F-Zero/Advance Wars/Wario Land fan that, maybe someday, we’ll finally get a new entry!
Metal Gear Rising sequel please! Give it back to Platinum. That was one of my favorite games from that generation simply because of how fun the gameplay was.
@OldManHermit I’d love a Switch port of the first as well!
I was thinking about this topic a few weeks back. Here’s what I’ve noticed about my own purchasing/playing habits. I have both a Switch and an Xbox Series X with Game Pass Ultimate right now. I’ve had Game Pass for almost two years now and it has caused me to buy less games on my Xbox.I haven’t bought an Xbox game since Star Wars Squadrons (which is now on GP Ultimate thanks to EA Play) and I don’t even remember the last game I bought before that. However, it has become the perfect test bed for cross-platform games. For me portability is king over all, so I’d rather play just about anything on Switch, unless the performance difference is just that bad. So, I probably buy less games on Switch now too, but only because I typically get to try them first on Game Pass. If I really enjoy something enough, I’ll stop playing it on Xbox, buy it on Switch, and continue there.
One thing I’m interested to see is when Xbox Series controller support comes to iOS in the next update, if I’ll keep this pattern up or just stream my Xbox to my phone and continue playing “portably” that way.
Personally, F-Zero, Wario Land, and Advance Wars are the three Nintendo franchises I want to come back most.
Sticking with the genie’s wishes, I’ll pick Wario Land because it seems like the least likely to come back out if those three. I’m also going to put a self imposed rule that I have to kill another Nintendo franchise. I pick Punch Out to kill because ARMS is way more fun.
If we’re talking any franchise from anyone: Revive Mega Man X, kill Bubsy because... come on... he got a new game before anything on my list.
Wow, not a single Mega Man Battle Network made it into the top 50? That’s really surprising. I would’ve thought BN 2 and/or 3 would have made the list. Also surprised to not see a single DKC. Otherwise, a pretty good list. 👍
I haven’t watched the video yet, but plan on it! As someone who primarily games on Nintendo and Xbox, my brain does a really weird thing: I have no problem remember that A and B are swapped on both controllers and adjust accordingly. I cannot for the life of my do the same for X and Y... My brain defaults to the Xbox position (which is funny because I’ve gamed on Nintendo for a lot longer) but it takes me seconds to remember “Ok I’m back to Nintendo, Y is here.”
I don’t have trouble with PlayStation because the symbols are so different from the letters.
@ZeldaFanboy78 I kind of love that the spine is completely different from the standard font of the rest of the Switch’s physical lineup. I’ve often wondered if reprints changed the spine font or if it got to keep it’s styling. Are there any other Switch games that didn’t use the standard font on the spine?
I have really enjoyed my time with this game. I haven’t beaten it yet, but I always have a blast when I pick it back up. This and Breath of the Wild were the two physical games I picked up at the Switch’s launch. I’d love to see a new 64/Hero/Generations type game!
These are two of my favorite Zelda games and I will sing their praises as often as I can. For me, Seasons is probably second only to ALttP in terms of 2D Zelda’s with Ages right behind Seasons. I would love to see a remake of both!
I had no idea these were a thing! One of the first fighters I ever got addicted to was Battle Arena Toshinden on Game Boy, which is also a Takara game. I actually didn’t know until years later it was a port of a PlayStation game. I was introduced to SNK through my Neo Geo Pocket Color and those are the versions I enjoy most from these series. I would love to try some (or all) of these out. Thanks for the feature!
@nessisonett I agree completely. N64 (and the Game Boy line) is absolutely doable. That’s why I vote for a remaster of GX, because it would at least give Nintendo an idea of interest in the series without funding a new one.
I wish Nintendo would just bring GX out of the vault, update the visuals (it still looks gorgeous, even by today’s standards), and maybe add some online play. Would I rather have a brand new F-Zero? Yes, especially with Nagoshi onboard. However, if they don’t want to fund a brand new one, giving us GX Deluxe could at least gauge interest in a new entry.
I was hoping to see DKC3 before Christmas! If anyone wants to make add a little Holiday cheer to your DKC3 game, here’s a cheat that makes all the bonus games Christmas themed: At the Select Game menu screen, highlight a saved game and press L, R, R, L, R, R, L, R, L, R then enter MERRY as the code. You should hear one of the Kongs make a noise confirming you entered it correctly.
@Bolt_Strike I've thought proper Kanto sequels would be a nice move as well. If they do it, they should be a combined Kanto/Johto sequel since those regions are connected. Have them take place just a few years after Gold and Silver's adventure.
@rdrunner1178 I completely agree, plus you get lapsed Pokémon players interested. The post Pokémon League stuff could be you going through the Orange Islands.
I'd love it if the rumored Pokémon game on Switch is a remake of Yellow. It wouldn't really eat into Sun/Moon and would be a great way to start the Switch off with nostalgia. We've seen how well that works on 3DS with Gen 1 on VC. This would give Sun and Moon time to mature, and Switch users something to play until Gen 8 and then the inevitable Sinnoh remakes. I know this is a long shot. Just wishful thinking!
Sad to hear Gen 2 on VC isn't in the cards. It's still my favorite Generation.

Just about anything from the Mega Man X, Donkey Kong Country, Zelda, Mario, classic Sonic, and Pokémon series.
Oh and instrumental Life Will Change from Persona 5.
