For those of us who bought a Switch day one, you may remember Super Bomberman R being a key name in that launch line-up. Once a Switch exclusive, R made for a strong launch title, and it received some lengthy post-launch support, adding new stages and crossovers with fellow Konami franchises, like Castlevania and Metal Gear.
It's taken four years to reach this point, but Konami's just revealed the game has hit two million sales worldwide. Previously reaching one million sales back in 2018, Konami announced this new milestone via Twitter. Curiously, it also mentions plans to carry out a "commemorative campaign", but we've got no details about it. We'll need to wait for further details.
It follows yesterday's announcement that free-to-play spin-off Super Bomberman R Online is coming to Switch, offering us a new battle royale experience. Previously a Stadia exclusive, we don't have a console release date right now, but we've been told we can expect it "soon".

Cant find an online match tho.
One of my default multiplayer games alongside Mario Kart and Smash Ultimate. Love it!
All those sales and yet no one was ever playing online
Really cool for this nice little game! I considered buying this when it was on sale a little while ago. I held back on it because games with a local multiplayer focus are kinda obsolete. If online is dead like you say @santaglause I suppose I made the right call.
Classic four player party game on the switch. Had a couple good nights with this one before the pandemic started.
@stinky_t are the obsolete because of corona, or because you have no friends?
I almost always play solo and still this game is super fun. I really like it
First game I traded in for the switch.
I would've picked this up but that spine would've totally ruined my shelf.
I have really enjoyed my time with this game. I haven’t beaten it yet, but I always have a blast when I pick it back up. This and Breath of the Wild were the two physical games I picked up at the Switch’s launch. I’d love to see a new 64/Hero/Generations type game!
@itslukec what's corona? my life hasn't changed
@ZeldaFanboy78 I kind of love that the spine is completely different from the standard font of the rest of the Switch’s physical lineup. I’ve often wondered if reprints changed the spine font or if it got to keep it’s styling. Are there any other Switch games that didn’t use the standard font on the spine?
@drewtoo26 Binding of Isaac used it's own font, Shaq-Fu and Battle for bikini bottom aren't in upper case, Just dance 2017 used it's own logo, Has-Been Heroes used it's own logo, I am setsuna used it's own logo, Final fantasy The Zodiac age's spine was all white, the list goes on
@Jackpaza0508 Thanks for the reply and tips! I’ll check that out!
The only thing I remember about this game was that the box spine was one of the very few Switch games to have a unique font. Most other games were standardized to a generic font.
Glad that it's been super successful. Probably the best game Konami has released in the past 5 years. Also hope this means that Bomberman will get to see much more love in the future from them
LOL at "previously a Stadia exclusive." Five people are bristling at that.
I beat the original game. Don’t think I beat the bonus single player dlc (though it was cool), and I liked the extra characters and mechanics (castlevania and silent hill guys) a lot.
Good Bomberman. Should have allowed for 5 or 8 player.
@drewtoo26 In my collection (European), the Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz spine sticks out the most. Others that deviates a little are Dark Souls and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.
Hopefully we will get more Konami announcements soon enough.
I was keen on this due to eight player multiplayer support, but the AU$90 price tag for a game that looked like it should have cost no more than AU$50 had put me right off.
And it's now out of print, so I don't even have the option to buy a physical copy.
I thought I would love having Bomberman on Switch but despite an early purchase I've hardly ever played it. Surprising when you consider we've 3 Nintendo fans all under same roof. Maybe after years of playing previous versions on 3DS, PlayStation & Saturn it no longer holds interest?
Having said that I didn't like the Switch version's isometric graphical style. With Bomberman local co-op you really need simple clear 2D images. And where are the extra-life dragons? Not a patch on the Saturn version!
Thinking of picking it up as a party game with friends.
More Bomberman please
I'm not surprised this game sold a million copies in its first year. It's Bomberman and there wasn't much else to play early on. But I am surprised it managed to sell another million copies since them. I would have expected this to be one of those games that disappeared down a black hole a few months after it was released.
Hi, hi in English it’s “FIRE”!
