Re: Talking Point: One Month On, How Did Nintendo's Switch 2 Launch Go?

ddlevine

I think the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 went very well and the console itself is great. The launch lineup is better than the original Switch, both in terms of the number of games and also the games themselves. The Switch 2 itself was easier to get at launch and continues to be easier to get, even compared to months after the original Switch launched.

The $450 price is justified considering that $300 from March 2017 adjusted for inflation is almost $400 today. Then you take into account everything that is better about the Switch 2 (Joy-Cons, screen, internals) and it justifies the additional $50 on top of the inflation adjusted price.

I agree that $70-$80 games sucks. I'm not rich and I don't like it any more than the next person. However, $60 games weren't always going to be sustainable any more than $50 used to be. Inflation, at least in the US is a contributing factor, along with rising development costs.

Re: GameStop Promo Wants You To Trade-In Your Old Switch For A New Switch

I used to be completely against GameStop around 2004 because of bad experiences and employees that didn't seem to know what they were talking about. However, in the last couple of years, I've enjoyed visiting my local GameStops. The employees are very knowledgeable and nobody has tried to push anything on me. Yes, they'll ask if you want to pre-order something, but they don't badger me after I decline. Of course, everyone's mileage will vary as each GameStop location is run by people and every person is different.

Re: Guide: Best Switch Portable Chargers - Every Power Bank Worth Getting For Nintendo Switch

ddlevine

Great article. Thank you for putting this together.

For those not in the know, you may want to mention that the best portable chargers will have Power Delivery. This is especially useful if you want to use the Switch and charge it at the same time.

While I'm sure the folks at Nintendo Life know what that is, I'm posting a link for others:

Re: Guide: Powering Up Super Power - Finding The Ultimate SNES Console

The original SNES did not have any software lockout for other region’s software. I had an original US SNES in the 1990s and played many Japanese games on it. All that needed to be done was cut part of the Japanese cartridge so it would fit in the system. Not the most elegant solution, but it worked. I remember playing Japanese versions of Turtles in Time, Super Mario All-Stars, and Yoshi’s Island before they came out in the US.

This may have changed with subsequent models, including the smaller version.

Re: Egads, You Can Now Use Wireless Headphones With Switch Thanks To The 4.0.0 Update

"...that for some reason, Nintendo themselves didn't want to harp on about." This video perfectly explains why Nintendo didn't include this in the release notes — it's hard to explain in writing. The Switch now supports wireless headphones that use a USB dongle, but not Bluetooth headphones. I would guess that most people think of wireless headphones and Bluetooth headphones to be synonymous. I was one of those people until I watched the video.

Re: Poll: A Retro Quest - Were You Able to Buy a Super NES Classic Edition / SNES Mini?

I didn’t have a reservation. I kept trying to talk myself out of wanting one because I didn’t think I could easily find one. I went to my local Best Buy on 9/29 where there was a line of about 20 people. I asked if it was only for people with tickets and an employee told me it was first come, first serve and to get in line. I was able to buy one because this particular location had over 50 units. I was very surprised.
