Re: Talking Point: One Year On, How Pristine Is Your Switch 2?

Got mine on launch day. Let me my young niece borrow it early on and noticed it was getting little scratches on the screen from being left out in all sorts of weird places. I bought the dbrand screen protector and not only did all those little scratches seemingly disappear after I put it on, but there have been no new ones (and no bubbles under the protector either).

@Sylamp Completely agree. I did the Adventure mode, which I thought was pretty mediocre. People definitely shouldn't base the single player experience on that, which feels like the developers were told to quickly flesh out a tutorial mode into a multi-level "story." Once I got past that, into the Trial Towers, and more one-off matches, I found it way more fun. Most fun I've had with a tennis game since Virtua Tennis.

Re: "It's Truly Baffling" - Shigeru Miyamoto Comments On The Mario Galaxy Movie's Critical Reception

I definitely found this movie better than the first (which I also found entertaining), and I think it's because it leaned completely into spectacle and fun and speed and the novelty of the games instead of trying to impose a more classic movie story structure onto Mario, of all things. With the first one, I quickly realized I don't want or need to have character motivations or origins retconned onto Mario.

I think grading this movie on a film critics' curve is like rating an amusement park ride by comparing it to Marty Supreme or something (not that I have actually seen Marty Supreme, maybe that comparison is more apt than I can imagine!).

Definitely getting this at some point! Really enjoyed the demo. But can we just call it a game? It’s great if it’s new IP for Capcom, but why do we need to keep referring to everything in gross corporate terms? It’s like how all creative output is turning into “content.”

@rjejr I agree. I just got Pokopia last weekend, and I’m probably going to get this, and soon (my daughter has been looking forward to both more than any games on the horizon), so that they’re being released so close together seems like strange timing. It’s how I feel about MKW and Kirby Air Riders being released so close together. I know some of their mechanics are different, but they’re more similar than different, and it felt like it would be weird to be dropping all that money on two Nintendo-published kart racers in that same window of time (still haven’t but want to get Air Riders at some point, after my finances recover from all the cozy games).

I held off on the Switch 1 version knowing that this was on the way, so I’m excited to play this game for the first time. Plus, my daughter is super excited about the co-op mini games and being able to play as Rosalina, and I know that assist mode will be really helpful for her. I don’t know, I get why adults who already have the game are disappointed by the updates, but I feel like kids are going to love the additions and sharper visuals here.

$8-10/hour to play the game through definitely isn't nothing, but it also isn't unfair. How much are movie tickets?

Gaming is not a cheap hobby, but compared to how much more expensive everything else has gotten (and how relatively quickly that's happened), it really isn't as bad as it could be.

People going off on the price of Switch 2 games today don't remember things the way I do. I remember asking to get Street Fighter II for Super Nintendo for my birthday when I was 7 but being turned down due to its price. It was $70. This was in 1992. That would be the equivalent of $161 today. Gaming has never been cheap.

There are so many games to play. I honestly don't get the complaints about any kind of lack on the Switch 2. How does anyone have that much time or money to get to the point where you feel like there isn't enough to play? I know, complaining about complaining...

Blissfully in Yakuza 0 world right now, but still want to get Kirby Air Riders and now Metroid Prime 4. Plus Kiwami 1 and 2 when I'm done with Yakuza 0. Plus my Switch backlog. The wishlist is insane at the moment.

Re: Best Zelda Games Of All Time

As much as I admire Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, I had so much more fun playing Link's Awakening on the Switch last winter. Plus, I appreciated how it actually had a good story. This all surprised me as well. I know that puts me in a very small minority. I may even replay Link's Awakening to take advantage of the Switch 2 performance improvements. It's up there with A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time for me.
