@IceClimbers that is interesting, I didn't know that about "X". I also like Nintendo " Next" and "xtreme", but I wonder if they would be hurt by the " x" in those names. One name I really like is the fuzion name that was part of the rumor a couple months ago about their next console.
I'm still not convinced the "NX" is a new console. Until they show the actual hardware, I'm not going to waste too much time trying to think of all the possibilities. It very well could be a development suite that just works across platforms, including Wii U and a new console. The new console might be something totally different.
But, if "NX" is a new console....KEEP THE "NX" NAME NINTENDO!!!
This looks very, very interesting. And kudos to these guys for not putting the mighty $$$ before innovation.
I love the fact that in this clip, when they "start" the spaceship....it sounds like a car starting...LOL
And their "state of the art software" produces nothing but ERROR! They have my attention with this title. Plus, it has to do with space exploration. That's always fun!
Nintendo has done something similar in the past, but they utilized the DS system running specialized educational software, instead of a specialized hardware device as in this story. I can see this happening for educational purposes, but NOT for sale to consumers.
On a side-note, I'd totally buy either of the mock-up devices if they were real. I can see them both as a phone actually, instead of a tablet device
@Ootfan98 I totally agree with you. While I think some consideration should go to what developers think, ultimately it should be what the consumers demand, and what's best for business.
I'd think developers would support this type of thing. But some may think it would eat into the money they can make by charging for each download. I would think you'd get more people to buy the titles knowing they could play it on 3DS and Wii U for one proce. But, who really knows what some of these developers/publishers think.
@rjejr It has online multi-player for some events @Rjejr. Check out the latest Nintendo Direct they cover it in there. ALso announced was a bundle with a really cool looking ice blue Wiimote to be include with the game at Retail. I'm all over that!
Is it me or didn't they already have Pilotwings as a reward awhile back? I just upgraded my download to the Wii U version and I know I wouldn't have spent $$$ on that title from WiiShop. Coins yes, but not $$$
Let's see... Animal Crossing: New Leaf for sure. On WIi U, I'll be putting in some time with Need For Speed U and Lego City Undercover. Also, Game & Wario. And, I'll be firing up the old Dreamcast for some Jet Grind Radio.
But, on Saturday, I'll be watching the Texans take on the Dolphins from 7pm to 11pm. So, during that time, I'll be limited to playing some Animal Crossing: New Leaf in between plays on the football game. GO TEXANS!!!
@Darel I agree, but let's give Nintendo a little more time to get Miiverse out for 3DS. It would have been nice to have it ready for Animal Crossing: New Leaf's release, because that game is so social, but I think once it is released, we'll all be happy about it...
I like the option of buying new Streetpass quests or games, but I don't like the set up Nintendo is using. I'd rather have all the DLC's in the eShop, instead of each title hosting it's own "shop" button in the app.
I'm really looking forward to this LEGO Marvel Super Hero game on Wii U. My first LEGO game was LEGO City Undercover on Wii U, and I might grab LEGO Batman part 1 & 2 on Wii to hold me over until LEGO Marvel Super Heroe's comes out. I"m really impressed by TT Games.
@grimbldoo exactly! This entire article is ridiculous. To suggest that the company that created the Wii U system (gamepad and console) doesn't know what to do with it is so ignorant on it's face. I mean the Team that created the console surely know's how to program for it and knows how to get what they want out of it. And with time, other developers will learn how to squeeze every once of power out of the machine. But to suggest the gamepad should be dumped because the creator doesn't understand how to use it is ridiculous.
e should get out of the journalism business seeing as how they can't write an objective article
@rlopez1996 I agree with you 100%... a wii u version would be fantastic. Could the delay be so they can get a Wii U version up & running along side the 3DS version? Something to think about
@koopakid I bet this game supports the Pro Controller. Mario Kart Wii supported the Classic Controller Pro, Wii Wheel & wiimote and even the Gamecube controller. For the mario Kart franchise its all about accessibility.
Oh, if you've never played Mario Kart Wii with the Gamecube controller, give it a spin. It's probably THE best way to control the game. I use the wireless Wavebird and its awesome.
This is good news. I think this is all leading up too Miiverse on 3DS. Hopefully, Nintendo takes this opportunity to finally fix the issue of software re-downloading. We already know they can transfer titles to a new system if they WANT too. Now's the time to give the consumer this option officially.
So FIFA '14 is coming to Wii.. What they mean is it's FIFA '12 with a new coat of paint splashed onto it. Just like FIFA '13 was the same game as the year before.
It's always fun when Nintendo employee Mii's show up. How cool would it be to walk through the Nintendo TreeHouse with your 3DS for a day? Imagine all the Streetpass hits you'd pick up.
This game is looking really nice! Given how close some of the elements look too Super Mario Galaxy-series, How big a trip would it be if Mario "popped" up in the game for a little cameo.
This is an odd decision by SEGA considering their recent announcement of a Sonic exclusivity deal with Nintendo. But, it's possible they just haven't announced it yet either.
Does anyone else find it ironic that they are releasing an HD update to a classic Mega Drive game on consoles that don't allow you to play THE classic Mega Drive game? The Wii U has Virtual Console and I'm sure Genesis/Mega Drive titles will show up there soon enough. But yet, Xbox and PS4 don't have an equivelant feature. It makes more sense to release the new HD remake onto systems that you would actually be able to play the original title on as well.
@Marioman64 @Marioman64 I'm glad you mentioned backwards compatibility. Seems like everyone is forgetting how important a feature that was last generation. And this generation, Nintendo is the only one to offer it. Sony "may" allow you to stream or download PS3 titles at a future date, but Microsoft has basically gone out of their way and said if you are interested in Backwards compatibility, then you need to look elsewhere because it's not happening on XboxNONE.
Nintendo has consistently provided that feature in their consoles since the days of Gameboy Advance. Granted we only have Wii and Wii U home consoles with the feature, but their portable systems have had it as a feature, and I'd say it's a really important feature that most GAMERS want. In this day and age, the consumer should expect and demand that feature as part of any new console.
But hey, at least Microsoft will let me watch live TV and Blu-Ray movies on my XboxNONE! SARCASM
@RancidVomit86 That's true. But it's also the same when people say Nintendo needs to get out of the hardware business and release games on other platforms. Never gonna happen.
Those people calling on Sony or Microsoft to disappear need to join the people who keep saying Nintendo has blown this generation with the Wii U, and just be patient and wait until ALL the consoles have been released. You can't declare a winner or loser in the Eighth Generation Gaming Console race until after ALL the consoles have been released and had a chance to compete against each other.
They should probably just have one-sized unit, the 32GB, but be available in both White & Black. From Day One, I've been operating under idea that no matter the size of the internal storage, you'll still need an external drive if you plan on downloading any content from the eShop. So, I bought the Basic Set on launch day. The only real benefit to me of the Deluxe set isn't the inclusion of Nintendo Land, but the Deluxe Digital Promotion. I had no interest in Nintendo Land and I really wanted the White console, so I went with the Basic set. A couple months after launch I added my external storage (1TB Toshiba Canvio) and I'm happy with my console choice.
Ideally though, if Nintendo does "recall" the 8GB model (I know they SAY they are redistributing the consoles more evenly across retailers), the Deluxe Digital Promotion needs to either end or be open to everyone. Now's the time to turn it into the Wii U's version of Ambassador Club (like they did for 3DS after the price drop).
I'm still convinced Nintendo can overcome the drought of software relatively quickly with a few quality titles from their library and a greatly enhanced marketing push. Now's not the time to quit or give up on Nintendo, folks. XboxNONE and PS4 haven't even released yet. So you can't say Nintendo has blown this generation's console race until ALL the consoles have been released. Until then, chill out and enjoy some Wii U gaming.
@Void That blue is awesome! The green is too. I'm okay with the way the console looks, I think Nintendo has dropped the ball on getting the public aware of what the Wii U is. And why people need one.
@Vorgot yeah, i'm in the US. And it could have been just good luck on my part that I got a sympathetic customer service rep. Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience. Hopefully Nintendo will be paying attention to the campaign underway to get them to move to an account based system for downloads instead of system specific.
Also, for those that think the problem is resolved by just purchasing physical copies of the games, if your device is stolen, most likely you will have your games stolen as well. Especially if it's from a burglary of your home.
And if you lose your device, you have the same problem of losing the games with the unit. Don't most people carry some of their games with them in a carrying case with the unit?
If you really want to avoid this situation, the easy solution is don't lose your device or let it get stolen.
@Vorgot That's a shame they wouldn't transfer your purchased content. In my experience with Nintendo, they went out of their way to transfer my WiiWare and Virtual Console purchase from a stolen Wii to my new one.
I had a Wii stolen out of my apartment, along with other things like a DS and all my games. Now, I never expected Nintendo to transfer my titles, I called Nintendo Customer Service to report the Wii stolen and to have them deactivate my Club Nintendo account link and WiiShop account so the person who stole it couldn't make purchases. But, after they reviewed my Club Nintendo history (all your WiiWare purchases are stored in Club Nintendo if you link it to the system), they went out of their way to get my downloads transferred over to my new Wii. I did have to obtain a police report, which luckily I had done prior to calling Nintendo. They deactivated my old Wii's account and the Club Nintendo link for me while on the phone and asked me to fax over my police report, so they could begin the process of transferring my content.
Within 24hrs, and on a Saturday no less, I received a call from Nintendo's Customer Service agent that was helping me. He walked me through setting up the WiiShop on my new Wii, and I was able to download all my content.
Now, i agree this isn't the ideal solution, and it may even be I just got the right agent at the right time. Or it may have been because I had over 30 WiiWare titles and Virtual Console titles downloaded. But they went above and beyond what I was expecting.
I would suggest that if this ever does happen to you, get the police report and give them a call. They can remotely deactivate the eShop account so nobody else can use it, and they will probably do everything they can to accomodate you.
Ideally though, we need the solution many have described above. All our content should be linked to an account, and we should be able to download that content on new devices. I do think though, for Nintendo's part, it's okay to limit the number of active devices to 1. They already have this setup internally, its through Club Nintendo.
For those wondering about the legality of these consoles, I think it's more down to them using the names NES, SNES, etc in packaging and advertisements. Even though Nintendo's and SEGA's patents may have run out, their copyrights on the names haven't, and never will.
One thing that they note in the article is they are doing hardware emulation for some of it, that's one way to get around a patent on the physical components. But the use of the copyrighted names might be the issue here.
This is a smart move. It gives the consumer yet another choice. We have download codes available at retail in the US, thats how I bought my copy of Luigi's Mansion:Dark Moon. I just wish we had these fancy cards. At Gamestop, my download code I bought for Luigi's Mansion was just a number printed on my receipt. No fancy card.
I hope this software launch acceleration includes 3rd party, namely EA Sports. But, if EA and Nintendo havent worked out their issues, then my sports game budget is going to the Visual Concepts/2K Sports titles on Sega Dreamcast. They were better games, anyway.
I've been waiting for this since the 3DS launched. Add in online play, and it's going to be great!
To those that were underwhelmed by Mario Tennis Open, what didnt you like? The online challenges were fun. My main gripe was online was region locked. Other than that, its a solid Mario sports title
@MrWalkieTalkie Agreed! I dont have much faith in EA though. Need for Speed Most Wanted U was the last EA game I bought, and thats only because of Criterion was the developer. I won't buy anymore EA games unless they work out these differences with Nintendo.
I'm disappointed in EA Sports. I refuse to buy another system just to play their games. So, instead, I'll play NBA 2K1, NFL 2K1, and NHL 2k1 on Sega Dreamcast. They are better games anyway. S%*k IT EA!

I'm disappointed in EA Sports. I refuse to buy another system just to play their games. So, instead, I'll play NBA 2K1, NFL 2K1, and NHL 2k1 on Sega Dreamcast. They are better games anyway. S%*k IT EA!
