The game sounds absolutely fantastic! I can't wait until this comes out. I was a fan of the first game so its really a no-brainer for me. Oh, and this is first post with my 3DS! :3
I can't wait for this game! Just like every other game in the Layton series this one should be great! This and Kirby: Mass Attack will probably be my final DS buys.
This is probably my most anticipated 3DS game. I am REALLY psyched to play this! It was a but worrisome that there was no mention of this in the press conference though. That tells me that I may not be playing this baby until 2012
Excellent! Only 11 titles out of the whole DSiWare catalog is very reasonable! Now I'll be able to hold on to my 3 Domo games (I don't really care either way) and Pinball Pulse (YES!!). Oh, and Art Academy is also transferable now! This just made my day and made the wait for the eShop's arrival that much more painful!!!
Why Nintendo Life keep saying that it uses StreetPass?? It doesn't. There is no mention of it in the press release above and in IGN's write up of it they sepcifically say it has no StreetPass functionality.
I agree with this score. This is a fantastic Wiiware release and the best racer on the whole service (although that's not really saying much...). It has a lot more depth than I thought it would. If only it was able to have crammed online in there. Then it would have surely gotten a 10.
I think saying violent video games are harmful is true to an extent. If a very young kid like under 14 plays super violent games, it could potentially screw them up. For example, this kid who is like 9 walked up to my garage sale last year and started thumbing though the couple games I had out. So my dad walked up to him and asked him what kind of games he liked. His response: "violent games" o_O That's just a bit scary. Then my dad asked him if he liked Mario. The kid said no and my dad asked why. The kid's response: "It doesn't have any guns." Clearly this was a child who was exposed to violent video games far too early in his life and he is potentially damaged because of it. So what this doctor says seems true to a point although, the biggest issue here are the parents. None of this would be a problem if parents would just parent their damn kids! There is your issue, the parents. Not violent games or movies. They're doing their job by blatantly putting up ratings that outline who should and should not be exposed to it. Now its the parents job to not buy their 9 year old a game meant for folks 18 and up! I'm sick of people jumping down the throat of the game industry. Are they not to make mature games because kids might play them? No! Its not like they try and hide it. If a game is meant for a mature audience, there is a nice box right on the cover with a big "M" on it. Plus stores can't sell such games to minors. What more can game makers do?? Stop blaming them and start blaming the parenting of today!
I just looked at the NA line-up.....yikes. The only things I'll actually be getting from our list is Mario Land, Excitebike 3D, and Pokedex 3D, and 2 of those things are free! The only rational I can find for this is that Nintendo's E3 conference is less than 24 hours out from eShop launch. I would hope that means something for more content on the 7th to coincide with the show. Otherwise, I'm gonna be ok for eShop purchases for quite some time since I saved up a bunch of money for the launch. I guess that's not SUCH a bad thing but I'm ready to buy, buy, buy! So give me something to do that with Nintendo!
EDIT: And does anyone else find it extremely odd that Pokedex 3D isn't a Japanese launch application?? This may be the first time in history that we get a Pokemon release before Japan!
This is why Retro is just awesome. They really learn how to make a Nintendo game and realize it isn't an exact science. They are obviously an outstanding developer but still remain modest and admit they aren't perfect and there is always more to learn. This is the level of maturity all developers should have. There are far too many developers that make one decent game and think they know it all. I am quite confident in Retro to handle ANY Nintendo franchise, even Mario or Zelda. They can clearly be trusted with even the most precious IPs.
And North America is getting....what exactly?? I'm gonna feel seriously jipped if we don't get ANY bonuses when Europe is getting that cool poster and Australia (yes, AUSTRALIA!) is getting that sick ocarina! C'mon Nintendo! Give us SOMETHING!
EDIT: Just saw the link to the NA bonus. Its nice they're giving us something but I still really would have liked to have that ocarina Guess I'll have to go pay some obscene price on ebay for it...
I'm glad Nintendo went about it the way they did but if they did go download only, I would still follow them as I always have done and always will do. I think it will be a VERY long time until we see a Nintendo handheld which is download only. One major staple of Nintendo handhelds is their backwards compatibility. So even if the entire library for the system after 3DS was 100 percent digital, it would almost definitely have a slot for your old DS, 3DS games. Same with the system after that and likely the system following that one.
Praise the heavens! I was expecting to see this come up very soon but its always nice to have confirmation. I'm gonna just think of it as a September release since that is when every other Layton came out. I LOVE the Layton franchise and can't wait to play this one! BTW, what's this about an RPG after the main game? I've never heard of this before....
I'm grateful that its coming to 3DS at least but this is a load of BS. If the 3DS can handle a version of Generations, so can the Wii. Wii has been the host to Sonic's most successful home console games in the last 5 years so I don't really see the logic here but ok then. I guess Sega doesn't want money... :/
It looks like its potentially pretty good. I never got a chance to play the first one on DS so I don't really know what to expect. Hopefully we see some gameplay details at e3!
I really enjoyed the first one (to my surprise) so i'll likely buy this. Is this coming to non-Nintendo consoles? One would think but it would sort of make sense to focus on Nintendo platforms since I don't believe these games sell as well on PS3/360 (do they??)
That sounds cool that Ubisoft isn't just shafting the Wii. We need some good releases to fleash out the rest of the year. I was a bit confused by the article though. Is it coming to XBLA and PSN and Wii retail or is it retail for all 3 platforms?
I kind of want to get this based off all the fantastic things I've heard about it but.....I'm just not so sure its for me. I've only played one other Square RPG (Mario RPG) and don't normally enjoy hardcore RPGs. That is...if this is a hardcore RPG. Is it? It certainly looks it. The only RPGs I really enjoyed are the Paper Mario games and Mario&Luigi games. Can anyone convince me to drop 800 points on this? I mean, just what is so damn great about it??
If this is a 50 dollar pack-in with a Wii Remote I will certainly track it down somewhere for 10-20 dollars. The screenshots for the most part actually look very good. If however it is a 50 dollar stand-alone game, it will simply have to wait.
I feel like I've been being so jerked around by Nintendo. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for the eShop to launch. I just want this to end! Why are they holding it back!? Just get a whole bunch of people to kick its development into high-gear and get the damn thing out the door! It makes no sense to be secretive over this. Just get it done, and get it out! Its so damn simple! And if there are some issues, at the very least just tell us when it WILL be out!!! I love Nintendo but there secrecy over virtually everything is quite tiresome sometimes...
Hmmm...seems it would be the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to launch the eShop this coming Monday, a mere day before they gather people for a conference partially about it. I feel as though we actually stand a chance of getting it Monday. And if not, I certainly expect that day it WILL be released to be revealed at this conference.
Ah! Another year of sleeping in until 11:30, slowly waking up, preparing some type of food and a beverage, and then curling up in front of the computer in anticipation for the show! Its better than Christmas!
How is the 3DS doing in other parts of the world? I assume better than in Japan. But just like always, Japan is gonna be rewarded by Nintendo with all sorts of amazing things for their dis-loyalty and non-interest while the rest of the world (who buys their stuff!!) sits and waits for some Nintendo games for 6 months+ and strait up never gets some things. If Japan ends up being the only region getting eShop this month, I will be absolutely seething!!! Also, I agree that Nintendo really needs to get their heads out of their asses with eShop stuff. I mean c'mon. We are well into the month when it is supposed to come out and there is NOTHING out of Nintendo regarding it. HAVE THEY NOT LEARNED FROM THE WII SHOP AND DSI SHOP!!?? They MUST make some noise for the eShop and do that little thing called ADVERTISING! Please don't screw up the eShop Nintendo...
Even though it sounds potentially awkward, i trust that it will work intuitively and flawlessly. This is quite a crucial game to the 3DS and Miyamoto has yet to screw up any game in the "main" line of Mario games. I'm confident this will still be a phenominal game!
I wouldn't mind if they didn't have a hard drive. Those things are irritating anyway. Why have this big thing when you can just have flash memory which takes up far less space. I definitely prefer a high capacity SD card to a stupid hard drive. Although 8GB does sound a bit small. Oh well, if its expandable with SD cards then I'm not complaining.
Yep Nintendo, Japan is slowing in sales for games and systems. Just keep showering them with endless love and give the rest of the world (who buys your stuff!) the cold shoulder. I can't stand it sometimes. The less Japan buys, the more awesome stuff they get. The more we buy and the more loyal we are, the less we get and the longer we have to wait for new things.
"We will be aiming at creating excitement in Japan" And the rest of the world? Come on! I'm getting kind of sick of Nintendo's undivided focus constantly being Japan Japan Japan. I realize they're a Japanese company but they make quite a few sales elsewhere in the world as well! This makes me worried that some of these last titles may not make there way out of Japan since that appears to be the only area Nintendo is interested in treating well. I hope to see a very big turn out for Wii at E3.
All the comments here are a bit on the negative side... I think Inchworm looks extremely promising and reaqlly makes this weeks group of games. I might just spring for this on my DSi with my remaining points. I said when 3DS came out I would not buy any DSiWare until the eShop launched but I might just go back on that and take a risk for this one...I love that it can display full color photos in picture animation!
