Re: Review: Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator (3DS eShop / Game Boy)

I actually had this game! Before being bought a Wii by my wife in 2008, the only Nintendo product I ever owned was a Game Boy in 1991. This was one of only a handful of games I owned.

And yesterday a 3DS XL arrived in the post for me, so I'll definitely be downloading this. I can still remember the title theme tune really clearly!

I would get this to play with my oldest boy (almost 4)... except he became terrified of Toy Story after he saw part of the first one, aged 2, at his nursery (it was the baby doll / spider thing). Now he won't have anything to do with anything which is, or looks like, a Pixar movie

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

@LeVideoGamer Oh fair enough. I only ever bought Wii points on my credit card via the Wii Shop channel as it was cheaper (£7 for 1000 points).

And the 'standard' cost for NES and SNES games on the Wii U eShop seem to be based on that cheaper price too...

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

@ICHIkatakuri It's still an increase though. Those games you mentioned were imports, and were usually only 100 points extra - i.e. £6.30 for a SNES import (UK) or $9 (US).

And in any case, for American Wii U owners, this wouldn't even count as an import, as it was released there in the 1990s. So for consistency's sake this should have cost $8 in the US (equivalent to 800 points) and £6.30 in the UK (equivalent to 900 points).

Re: Nintendo Comments On EarthBound's Inflated Pricing

It's always seemed strange to me that all NES games were the same price as each other, all SNES games the same as each other etc. For example, Balloon Fight doesn't seem to offer the same value as Super Mario Bros 3, etc.

That said, I would prefer the usual price of £5.49 to be the very top end of a scale for SNES games. (That said, I did spend £6.99 for Earthbound, so I'm probably a bit of a hypocrite)

Re: Nintendo Stock Hits Its Highest Point in Two Years

I'm not quite sure why @Peach64 is getting singled out so much either. I'm a big Nintendo fan and am quite optimistic about the future for the Wii U, but most of her/his comments seem to be quite realistic, sensible and measured.

And s/he is right here too. This is definite good news, but Nintendo aren't out of the woods yet...

Re: Review: Puddle (Wii U eShop)

@edcomics Lots of people are saying this ripped off Fluidity / Hydroventure. In fact this game was originally for Windows PCs, and it won an award at the Independent Games Festival in March 2010.

Fluidity, meanwhile, was announced for WiiWare in September 2010 and released in December 2010. So if anyone's doing the ripping-off, it's the developers of Fluidity...

Re: Talking Point: The Famicom Was the Beginning of the Modern Gaming Era

antonvaltaz

Hmmm... from a British perspective this doesn't really ring true. I mean I did have friends who had a NES back in the day, but they were few and far between... more had a Master System, and far more still had 8-bit or 16-bit computers for their gaming fix.

But then I suppose the British/European industry more or less collapsed in the mid-90s, and I guess the modern worldwide gaming industry owes much more to Japan and the US. Sniff...

Re: Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales

antonvaltaz

To be fair, if you read his comment closely he doesn't actually rule out a price cut.

From a UK perspective, if they can at least reduce the price of the basic pack so that they can advertise Wii U as being available "from £199" against the PS4's £349, I think that will have a big impact psychologically.

Of course the games need to be good as well, but as it's Nintendo I'm taking that as a given...

Re: Talking Point: E3 Exposed the Strains of Nintendo's Development Workload

@Lasermaster123 "Its going to have around 1500 employees which is pretty large for a development studio considering Retro has only 120+ish people."

I followed some of your links and I'm not entirely clear how many of those 1500 will actually be new employees, as opposed to relocating existing teams into a new facility. This URL suggests that it's a new building rather than a new development team:
