Re: Paper Mario Producer Says "It's A Necessity" To Change The Combat System In Every Entry

@Nemesis666 My point is that TOK is rudderless, or as Yahtzee would describe it, "A dog's breakfast of ideas." There was no one at any point, whether it be Tanabe or someone else, that actually tied up all of the ideas the game had and made them work together. It's a bunch of ideas thrown together with no regard for how it actually plays. Also yes, in general Tanabe has come up with many bad ideas (Slam mechanic in LM3, Zip-Lash's level select spinner, no Rareware in the new DK games, the awful gameplay loops of SS/CS/TOK) so I think it's fair to blame him.

@N00BiSH I sort of have the impression that based on how unfocused TOK is (Is it an action-adventure game? Is it an RPG? Ar the battles turn-based or real-time? Is it a hidden object game? Is the gimmick origami or is it confetti/office supplies/drawings?) that once he got in his idea for the Rubik's Cube-style battles, he was incredibly hands-off with the game. It in general lacks any sort of cohesion and doesn't know what it wants to be. It feels like it was designed by committee and EVERYONE got a bit of what they wanted in it.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says "It's A Necessity" To Change The Combat System In Every Entry

@N00BiSH He killed Chibi-Robo, Mario Vs. DK, and Dillon as franchises. He made Federation Force. He added stupid ideas like the slam move to Luigi's Mansion 3 that made what could have been a great game much less good. He wanted any legacy of Rareware and DKC kept out of the new DK games. I'm sour on his involvement with things because I think he is pretty much a hack who has delusions that he's as good of a dev as Miyamoto or something. His work at this point is like if Miyamoto constantly kept trying to make Wii Music or Star Fox Zero work instead of dropping them as the failed experiments they were.

I really hate to be so blunt, but maybe he should try acquiring some talent before he tries to innovative. He is without a doubt the worst creator at Nintendo now and has been for years. I'm frankly amazed he still is allowed to work on anything, considering how often his ideas have driven franchises into the ground. He's definitely got a big head and thinks his ideas are better than they are. If you want to have a "People don't actually know what they want, I do" attitude, you'd better have talent to back it up and Tanabe has shown time and time again he does not.

What's even the appeal of these games? There are better volleyball games, better mini-game collections, better dating simulators, and yes, better sources of "that" kind of material. How much of the appeal of these games to Westerners is honestly part of their allegiance to a political tribe just to upset those they perceive to be their enemies in a cultural war?

Re: Video: Watch The Nintendo Indie Highlights Presentation January 2019

Tupin

I hate the whole "Indies only make 2D pixel-art games" stereotype and know for a fact that some of these are great games but jeez. In 16 minutes I think they showed one new game that wasn't 2D or pixel-art. And it is a port of a five-year-old game. Yep, indies definitely picking up the slack for lazy AAA devs on the Switch.

Re: Rumour: Dataminer Uncovers SNES Games For Nintendo Switch Online Service

Tupin

@Medic_alert Wii games sometimes struggle with emulation even on modern gaming rigs. The games people want most from the GCN are more likely to get remakes. Sure, the Switch could theoretically run them I guess. I'll admit, not as silly as people believing a GCN Classic would be a thing, that would cost like $200.

@link422007 "Tu quoque!" doesn't lessen the war crimes Japan did. This is what a lot of Japanese nationalists do; whenever you bring up Bataan/baby bayonetting/Nanjing/Unit 731/forced Korean soldiers/occupation of SE Asia, they just cry "But America nuked us, you're hypocrites!" and thus they can continue to keep up Yasukuni's near deification of the actions of the Imperial Japanese Army while denying/underplaying what they did. Amazingly, this even happens with things like mentioning their terrible treatment of the Ainu or their horrific "scientific" whaling practices.

Don't let Japan get away with honoring terrible atrocities just because they can say "America nuked us twice."

Re: Blaster Master And Zelda II Arrive On The Switch Online NES Service This Month

Tupin

Why can't Nintendo just dump like 20-30 a month instead of this crap? PS4 and Xbox One owners get games that came out in 2015 for free with their subscription. Don't care if it costs more, no excuse for two ROMs a month. Nothing less than N64 is acceptable, and even then that should be a basis for a majority, which is GCN and Wii games. Seriously, this service should be $60 and offer two GCN or Wii games a month, or 3-4 N64 games. Want to give NES or SNES, should be like 5-10.

Re: Talking Point: Switch's Blazing First Year Means Fewer Games In 2018 Shouldn't Be A Concern

Tupin

I just hate how Nintendo will lean so hard on "evergreen" titles these days. Or release half-finished games with on-cart DLC that sure, they release for free months down the line, but the whole point of them is to drum up "hype" for an old game instead of constantly making new ones. It's cheap, anti-consumer, and only prolongs them having to release nothing.

The Switch does not need a mountain of indies, (that are mostly better/available on the PC) Wii U ports, (kind of on the fence about Smash being a port or a remake but DK and Toad definitely are) or gimmicks like Labo. It needs games like Octopath Traveler, Metroid Prime 4, Yoshi, heck, even Pokemon Let's Go. You can't keep up these dumb hype-building mechanisms and expect people to stick around forever.

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

@GothicZM
Because if you associate a behavior to a race because they are that race, it's racist regardless of who is saying it about what race? I know you're going into whataboutism about BioWare or whatever, but that isn't okay either.

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

Tupin

@GothicZM
Doing it in a memey and uninformed way that meets the definitions of racism and then saying that the left is the one discriminating against him is bad, yes.

You even admit that if the inverse were said, it would supposedly be heralded because you perceive an anti-white bias. So why isn't what JT said anti-black, then?

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

Tupin

@GothicZM
It was more than just that, he was talking about genetic predisposition to violence based on race. I don't know why people who say behavior is inherent based on race get upset when they are called racist. I get that it gets thrown around a lot, but that's what he said.

Guy needs to stick to his day job and worry about making his content actually funny again. It's sad to see someone washed up and so not passionate anymore that he's grasping at jumping on the bandwagon of "controversial Internet guy defends the right."
