Re: Atooi Confirms Mutant Mudds Collection for the Nintendo Switch

TruthfulVoice

I'm so sick and tired of seeing this game be repurposed and re-released endlessly.

Remember how ambitious it was originally? When it was first announced, it was a Mario Sunshine-esque 3D Platformer for the DS*. Do that. Go back to that idea. That would be welcome to see.

Put this iteration of Mutant Mudds to bed - people have seen it enough; this had its shot and did its business. The last thing the 2D pixel art indie machine that is the Switch needs is yet another faux retro 2D pixel art indie game.

  • for people who didn't know that it was supposed to be a 3D platformer; here's the video of that prototype that was abandoned for whatever reason: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfDpye2-TLw

Also bonus, here's a video from when Renegade Kid took that same engine and pitched a Crash Bandicoot 3D Platformer for the DS to Activision: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGftCH43H9E

That engine looked pretty dang good for that hardware. Shame they never did any 3D Platformers

Re: Hands On: Picking Up Steam With Switch Match-Three SRPG Ironcast

@Kalmaro: Rogue, not "Rouge". Rouge is a shade of red, and of course, the Bat-girl from the Sonic games who's got a thing with Knuckles

@JaxonH: The 'Gooch already said "nope" to the Switch - http://www.dualshockers.com/hironobu-sakaguchi-nintendo-switch-terra-battle-no-plans/

But Terra Battle 2 and Terra Wars - the RPG one with digitized claymation visuals from Arzest, who used to be Artoon, who developed Blue Dragon with Mistwalker back in the day - are at least coming to PC now, so it'll be nice to see some more meaty productions in the Terra Battle universe than just the original phone game.

"Space Hunted (Ultra Dolphin Revolution, $2.99USD)"

SOMEONE's a Nintendo fanboy of a developer Grabbing words from the codenames of the N64 (Nintendo Ultra 64), Gamecube (everyone knows it was Project Dolphin, thanks mostly to the famous emulator nowadays) and Wii (Nintendo Revolution) is certainly one way to form a studio name.

Well, time to get back to work on my Xbone game with MY studio, Natal Durango Scorpio

Re: Video: Get Ready For The Launch Of Ever Oasis With This Lovely Trailer

TruthfulVoice

This looks great, super cute, and with fun gameplay. Like a lot of people, I have no interest at all in checking it out on a 3DS with blurry tiny visuals though :/ Seems on track to do.... well nothing sales-wise. Just like Hey! Pikmin, or countless Yoshi titles, or that Codename STEAM, or any number of non-Pokemon/Mario/Zelda 3DS titles

Hopefully Nintendo wises up to HD ports, and Grezzo does a nice Switch version of this before too long. In the meantime, I will just continue to be sad that Nintendo does this, and support fantastic looking alternatives from non-Nintendo entities on platforms people care about (much like Stardew Valley compared to Harvest Moon or Story of Seasons). Luckily Re: Legend is on the way from Square Enix's Collective Indie Publishing Label: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioYUWfWpHG0

Re: Microïds Confirms Six Games for the Nintendo Switch

TruthfulVoice

Never heard of Gear Club before, but Eden are the people behind the excellent Test Drive Unlimited games from last gen (and also the sweet "b-tier" PS2 Platformer, Kya: Dark Lineage). They don't make bad games.

That's interesting (and a little sad) to see they've been pushed to the realm of mobile, but hopefully getting this on Switch is the start of their dedicated gaming hardware comeback. They don't deserve to fade into obscurity.

Flashback's f***ing terrible. But its worth hunting down videos on Youtube just to hear THE. WORST. DELIVERY. of the word "Awesomesauce" in human history. Holy sh**. I get why Ubi dropped it, but I have no idea why Microids - or anyone - would ever pick it up again. That reboot needs a reboot. smh; put out the original version on modern hardware (a la Another World Anniversary Edition) and we'll talk. But the Flashback remake needs to stay buried.

Re: Bulb Boy is Bringing Surreal Horror to the Switch eShop This Summer

TruthfulVoice

@ricklongo Looks like its just a sidescrolling horror-themed walking sim. Like Neverending Nightmares or something. We'll see how much the puzzle elements spruce things up, but one trend we've seen over the past few years are a lot of indies tossing the words "puzzles" about when they're really just making walking sims :/

Re: Ironcast, A 'Steampunk Mech Combat Game', is Coming to Nintendo Switch

TruthfulVoice

@Pink_Floyd: Devs still do. Just not for Nintendo platforms
Some of the mech games out or coming from indie devs, on PC and Playstation 4 and stuff at least, include:
> If you like Cybernator or Metal Warriors, there's Gunhound EX and Code HardCore
>If you like Battletech (Mega Drive) or Mechwarrior 3050 (SNES), there's Brigador or Hybrid Wars
>Fan of Front Mission? There's Dual Gear coming up. Or Harebrain Scheme's BattleTech
>Of course there's also Hawken, Heavy Gear Assault and Mechwarrior Online if in-cockpit action is more your thing, or Titanfall 2. Not indie, but c'mon, how could I not mention Titanfall?
>Mecha anime fans, and fans of weird stuff in general, got 100ft Robot Golf.
>And for fans of MechAssault, barring rediscovering something like Iron Brigade or Front Mission Evolved on Steam these days (underrated game, that one), you could always check out Warshift. Or even hopping into mechs in a recent Earth Defense Force game (the only series here that's likely to ever jump to a Nintendo platform if you ask me)

Plus, From Software confirmed some time ago that one of their post Dark Souls titles would be a new Armored Core, so that series is finally coming back http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/09/21/from-software-working-on-3-games-one-of-which-is-armored-core

What's a real shame though is that the creators of MechAssault, Day 1, were working on a spiritual successor relatively recently. Called Reign of Thunder; its Mechassault as heck. But they ran out of money and got bought by Wargaming, and then got turned onto other projects. They never cancelled the title officially far as I know, but unless Wargaming decides to start a "World of Mechs" (which I say THEY SHOULD), I don't see them resurrecting the project. I mean, look at this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYExIO4k5do

Like, there's actually a lot of giant robot stuff out there. Its always a shame when seemingly 99% of game marketing/advertising goes to less than 1% of games, and the blandest, loudest garbage the top 3 "AAA" companies can spew out at that. It would be like if 99% of movie commercials were just for Michael Bay films :/ You really gotta seek out infor on indie games yourself, or stick with 'em when they get a mention on any site you follow, to find the good stuff

Re: Chromophore: The Two Brothers Is Still in the Works

TruthfulVoice

@NinChocolate: No. 90's Arcade Racer got tanked by the scam artists at Nicalis who have only ever pushed Cave Story out the door successfully. The developer, Pelikan13, delivered the finished Wii U build to Nicalis and their agreement was done; he has no idea what they're doing with it (besides not publishing it), and has moved onto other games. He put out the Final Fight/Streets of Rage throwback, "The Takeover" on Steam successfully by himself: http://store.steampowered.com/app/418620/The_TakeOver/

90's Racer is never coming out as long as Nicalis exists, just like console/handheld ports of Yatagarasu: Attack Cataclysm they swore they were doing ("Legend of Raven"). Or anything they announce that isn't Cave Story. Man, they suck >

Cliqist lays out the entire sad tale of that one. Its a complete bummer that absolutely would've been avoided if only the developer signed with a competent publisher that had a proven track record instead of the flunkies at Nicalis. http://cliqist.com/2016/08/23/90s-arcade-racers-bizarre-journey/

@EternalDragonX: Its an homage to Game Boy titles, not 16-bit. Might as well hate it for not being a throwback to Gamecube games while you're at it

Re: Chromophore: The Two Brothers Is Still in the Works

TruthfulVoice

They've had at least 2 years to realize stylizing "Y2K" as "Yiik" is stupid. I'm not happy to see them still use it :/

As for this game, still looks good - I got no problem waiting for it. Its not like there's a dearth of pixel art RPGs inspired by Crystalis/Seiken Densetsu/Ys/Zelda out there, and THIS sole champion was THE GAME that needed to fill that void in the marketplace The market isn't exactly dying for a new one, so they can take their time. Just make it good and get it done eventually... and even then, who knows if that will be enough to make it stand out from all the other ones?

Re: Cat Quest Claws Its Way to Switch eShop Soon

TruthfulVoice

I liked the idea of combat, events and all that stuff happening on an Overworld Map Screen of an RPG... but then there never was a transition to a town. Or a dungeon. Or any other interesting, more detailed area like in every other RPG and action-RPG and action-adventure ever made.

This seems like 1/3rd of the game it needs to be... but they have a great Overworld for that game!

@Grandpa_Pixel : "There is a lot of begging in it as well. Also, the grammar and effort into the description feels pretty second rate.
"
Well to be fair, they're clearly not native English speakers. Corecell is a Thailand-based studio, which explains away their less-than-perfect grammar (And also the AMAZING voice acting in the trailer ). I mean, don't get me wrong - there's definitely reasons to not feel super confident about this game here. Its just a little unfair to pick on non-native English speakers for their grammar, imo. That's Globalization, baby! The gaming industry has awesome talent from everywhere on the Globe, and we're lucky that thanks to Digital Distribution, its easier than ever to download games from other countries.

The game still looks rough and "mushy" though, Unreal 4-powered or not. I especially like at 0:34s when the character rushes/attacks THROUGH an enemy, then proceeds to launch and combo them while they react BEHIND her. They really should've... just... NOT used that clip in the trailer, lol. Those animations need to be snappier, the collision needs to be tighter, and the speeds tweaked - it, sadly, just doesn't look satisfying to fight enemies :/

Although it is pretty cool how that Bernard guy can juggle enemies then freeze time to use them as platforms.

Re: Video: Get Warmed Up for Ever Oasis With This Overview Trailer

TruthfulVoice

This game makes me sad. Everything about it sounds great, but it strikes me as another title like Code Name S.T.E.A.M., where Nintendo inexplicably throws a lot of production muscle behind a damn handheld game, like people get invested in those. NO ONE sits down to play a game like this for a few minutes and then gets off a train, idiots. You want to sit down for an hour or several; really get invested. THIS SHOULD BE A CONSOLE GAME, and they shouldn't waste this much effort on a 3DS title. Its baffling and anger-inducing - its not like the Switch COULDN'T use more titles in its first years (especially new IP; your first 2 years with new hardware are the best time to launch those)

It backfired with S.T.E.A.M. big-time, even though that's a good game (it looks like Batman: Brave & the Bold, plays like Valkyria Chronicle, and has a ton of celebrities doing voicework for it. Michael "Worf" Dorn was Henry Irons! WHY DID NINTENDO DO ANY OF THAT FOR A 3DS PRODUCTION!?!). This isn't going to move a lot either. And when someone brings this kind of concept to PC or consoles and hits it big, I'll feel bad for Grezzo. Much like how no one cares about Harvest Moon these days, and Story of Seasons is super niche, but Stardew Valley has sold millions and millions and copies and garnered tons of acclaim. Looking for the right platform for this kind of experience is probably also why Level 5 took Fantasy Life to mobile phones :/

Watch out, Ever Oasis, because there's gorgeous looking games coming up doing everything you're doing - and more - but on platforms people care about. Like Square Enix Collective's Re:Legend, for instance: https://collective.square-enix.com/projects/346/relegend/

Seriously, when Switch owners have to wait months in between releases right now, and they've spent the last 2 years bringing out VERY LITTLE for the Wii U, they need way more productions like this to go to their new platform. NOT THE 3DS. Ever Oasis is very frustrating to watch.... it really bugs me. This looks like a great production wasted on the choice of platform. But nah, its cool. Switch owners get Street Fighter 2 later this month

Re: AM2R Developer Encourages Players to Support Metroid II On the eShop and to Avoid 'Hate' Against Nintendo

TruthfulVoice

"Show them that 2D adventure platformers are still a thing people want"
His logic is beyond flawed - he sounds like someone with Stockholm Syndrome. Defending this is nonsense - no one is making money from this, ergo, they're not being threatened. They're not losing money. Their IP is being celebrated here; it's being made relevant — something THEY THEMSELVES ARE FAILING TO DO currently. Christ; the only thing they've done to "celebrate" the 30th anniversary of the brand is to shut this down.

And telling people to go buy Metroid 2 on the eShop? Extra stupid. If Nintendo needs to see that people still like platformers like this, then all they have to do IS LOOK AROUND AT GAMES OTHER PEOPLE MAKE (for once in their damn existence). There are thousands of "Metroidvanias" out there - sh**, two just came out last month (the excellent Song of the Deep from Insomniac and Headlander by Double Fine). A ridiculous amount of money was thrown at Iga to make Bloodstained. It's a freakin' genre tag on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Metroidvania/#p=0&tab=NewReleases). People already love these types of games. They like NEW ones too.

Don't tell people to go buy Nintendo's specific thing - if their logic is to hold the IP "hostage" until you buy more old, outdated GB games in 2016, then I guess I'll just come to terms with it being dead. Nintendo are simply being enormous bullies here, and the fact that their victim defends the behaviour is so distressing - fanboyism is disgusting.
