Re: Soapbox: This Accessibility App For Animal Crossing: New Horizons Shows How Companies Must Do Better

TheFullAndy

More accessibility options are always great.

As a left handed player I can't tell you how annoying it is when acceptable control options are not available to me.

System level button mapping has helped immensely but even now I see Nintendo with Skyward Sword HD mention only the right joycon for the sword controls which would be useless for me.

I have begun tweeting them asking for the option to swap the joy cons for sword and shield use.

Hopefully they listen.

Accessibilty is incredibly important and companies should do all they can and if it is possible they should implement the options.

I note "Another reason to buy it (again)" sub heading but this game was ripe for a remaster as it "only" sold around four million copies.

The vast majority of people playing on Switch will never have played the game before.

I am one who owns it on my Wii U (digitally) but I can't wait to play it in HD as even on my plasma tv (which is kind to SD resolutions) it can be a blurry mess.

Also 60fps? Happy days!

Regarding considering a game I didn't finish being a favourite I would have to say no I don't. I finish my favourite games, maybe not 100% them but I get to the main end goal. I can see a game is great without finishing it but I can't classify it as a favourite.

Bottom line is today there are so many games vying for our attention it is hard to make the time to play them all, and if a game doesn't click with you right away it can be easier to just drop it and move on.

Then you have the online aspect of games extending their length almost indefinitely. There are plenty of times I could start one of the many single player games in my backlog like Luigi's Mansion 3, Horizon, Spiderman, Axiom Verge, Mario All Stars but instead I want to put a few more hours into Street Fighter V ranked online to add to the hundreds I have already put in (still rubbish at it mind).

I think the main take away from all this is not to care what anyone else thinks about how you play your own games.

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - Better Late Than Never

Not my kind of platformer but having seen some videos of the game and I think it looks like a great port.

Yes it doesn't look as nice as other versions but the framerate seems to be mostly stable 30fps and it plays the same as the other versions which is the main thing.

Also about the dev's saying it runs full 720p/1080p? Maybe they meant the Switch Pro version......

@anoyonmus

If someone is a Switch only owner it is great the option is there.

I haven't tried it before on my PS4 Pro but strangely enough I want to now download it on Switch to see if it is that bad.

The Doom 2016 port was excellent, completed it on Switch before getting it on PS4 for the 60fps but the Switch version holds a special place in my heart.

Unless a dev is willing to rebuild a game from the ground up on Switch then some games will just not really be possible or end up being a technical mess. Just downscaling things doesn't always work regardless of how good Panic Button et al are.

Having said that Crash 4 looks to be a pretty excellent port based on the DF video but I imagine Switch was also in their mind throughout development of that game.

@Ganner

Speculation can be fun!

I don't expect anything major but even moving to an OLED screen is a big deal for me.

The problem lies where people get annoyed when their own unrealistic hopes do not come into fruition. That is on them.

I have been a Nintendo fan long enough to know what I hope happens rarely comes true, but Nintendo can still provide something even better that I didn't expect. It is why I still love them!

Re: Talking Point: Here's Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About The Rumoured Switch Pro's 720p Screen

TheFullAndy

An OLED screen in itself is a massive improvement so I hope that part is true.

Also how many games even run at native 720p on Switch? The games where you can see the pixels it is probably because it is running around 600p or worse. Games that run at 720p native like Mario Kart 8 look fantastic.

So I have no issue with the screen still being 720p, what I want to happen is that the Pro model does have a bit more grunt so older games get patched to actually run at native 720p handheld and native 1080p docked.

Re: UK Charts: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Bounces Back As March 31st Withdrawal Looms

@ukaskew

I have commented before that NL's tone can be strangely negative in the weekly charts despite everything being pretty rosey for Nintendo.

Bravely Default 2 dropping to 33 is actually a pretty decent second week result for a niche game but here it is "sad". Persona 5 Strikers debuted higher last week and has dropped out of the top 40 altogether for comparison.

6 Switch titles in the top 10, great week for Nintendo.

@Savino

There will always be people who cannot afford games at times, there are also people who have no clean water to drink or food to eat.

As you say videogames is way down low on the list of things of importance that people actually need.

The limited collection has been readily available for 6 months so if someone set aside a tenner a month they could buy it. If they cannot afford that I doubt they are worrying about videogames at all.

Re: Switch Shifted 1.5 Million Units In The UK Last Year, Matching Xbox And PlayStation Sales Combined

TheFullAndy

@Ajent

The PS5 still sold 450 thousand. The Series consoles still sold 350 thousand. Console launch sales numbers are higher than normal as well.

So to use your analogy, it is a 40 year old man running against two 80 year old men being carried by two fit young 20 year old men.

Edit: The Switch also had stock issues throughout the year as noted in the linked article.

Re: Switch Shifted 1.5 Million Units In The UK Last Year, Matching Xbox And PlayStation Sales Combined

@Rafie

Fair do's and I get what @Ajent is saying as well but if you click on the gameindustrybiz link at the bottom of the article it does show that sales of all Xbox and Playstation consoles were both significantly up from the year before yet Switch still outsold them combined.

That is a noteworthy fact and one both Xbox and Playstation sites would jump on too if it was the other way around.

@electrolite77

I have picked up about half the Wii U ports myself despite owning them on Wii U, having them looking shinier and properly portable is a big bonus.

I personally think the Switch library of games (not just first party) is absolutely stellar. People seem to forget just how bad it got with Wii U, I would be waiting months for a game of worth to show up, now there seems to be gems added every week.

Re: Switch Shifted 1.5 Million Units In The UK Last Year, Matching Xbox And PlayStation Sales Combined

@Friendly

If there is one thing console makers will do well to learn from PC's is the value of having the entire catalogue of games available to consumers from the start. Obviously that will never be the case as too many gens have past but it is good to have a starting point and we can have that with Switch, PS5 and Series X/S and slowly add classic games to those consoles along with the new.

Re: Switch Shifted 1.5 Million Units In The UK Last Year, Matching Xbox And PlayStation Sales Combined

TheFullAndy

@electrolite77

Yep. Ports and remakes appeal to me massively as well as new titles.

For all the fantastic new games that still come out I have grown increasingly tired of battle passes, microtransactions, identikit annual "AAA" titles, sometimes I do just want to go back and play the classics and having them all available to me from one Nintendo console is the dream.

I do understand though why some are getting a little tired of the ports especially if they had a Wii U and already bought those games as they are so recent in relative terms.
