Re: Man Arrested for Blackmailing Nintendo with Stolen User Data

Starwolf_UK

@lz20XX. He changed a www into admin thats the break-in. After he alledegy reported it to Nintendo they did nothing. Then when he released the info they did their whole "ha ha we were ignoring you now you'll pay the ultimate price" and then they shut the site down. Basically they didn't act until their pants were caught down. Thats not the way to be with security or even personal info. We give this info in trust that the person on the other end won't have it accessible to anyone who changes a www to admin.

The DVD Access Library was the same. Guy contacts Nintendo quite vaguely "I've got security matters, I'd like to chat to an engineer", calls them out on his blog (they then respond after basically being called out in public...but using his real name instead of his hacker alias?). The lawyer at Nintendo tries to arrange a phone call (to which he refuses as he sees it as a clear attempt to minimise any paper trail, plus the whole its security matters not legal matters). Given time was up for reasonable disclosure (if you find a security flaw generally, you wait for some time before you expose it to give the company time to patch it) he released it. Week after goes through voicemails at work finds they did call him (he never gave Nintendo any phone numbers yet they ring him at work).

Am I saying anyone is right. No. Both sides will hopefully get punished. Nintendo should get the lion's share of it as I believe its blame the pathetic security not the person who broke it.

Maybe I am being a little unfair as it was the people Nintendo outsourced the 3DS event site to that are the problem here as well as how the disclosure was handled.

Re: Nintendo Europe Stars Catalogue Gets Fans, Bags, Points

Starwolf_UK

Wait that doesn't make any sense. The laptop bag isn't a platinum prize from another country (for those of you who don't get it, the SNES controller and Mario and co statue were both platinum prizes in Japan and America, kind of rough we have to pay 7000 stars for them and have no platinum prize of our own).

I get the 100 points only if I have a few stars expiring (worst feature ever) so they don't get to waste so they're one of the better items on the system.

Re: Man Arrested for Blackmailing Nintendo with Stolen User Data

Starwolf_UK

ts not break in and entry if the door is unlocked. Which this was.

It is immature how Nintendo have decided to distort the truths of this story. The truth is they got a subcontractor to make a shoddy website for the 3DS event in Spain (like said earlier you need to change the URL and you've got everyones data, that is terrible website design for holding personal info). Nintendo's version. Oh they much have hacked into US!!!

I think the guys mistake was going to Nintendo first, being ignored (they like to do this) so instead of going to the correct authorities and letting them deal with it (and they would have dealt with it) he shows he is serious and is informed of being arrested. He heads down to the station himself, gives a statement (I think he also hands the evidence in), gets a lawyer and walks free awaiting trial.

Basically both side are in the wrong here. Nintendo needs to stop seeing these things as blackmail and stop responding with intimidation or legal threats. You would have thought they might have learned something from the DVD Access library fiasco (the net result was piracy became a lot easier on the Wii...) but in a way you could say they did hence responding with legal action rather than mere intimidation. What was I getting at? Sometimes it can be perceived these individuals try to do Nintendo a favor (or at least its meant to look like that from Nintendo's perspective) but don't get seen seriously so they try to be seen seriously and things take a bad turn there.

Re: Nintendo: Inazuma Eleven Not Officially Launched in the UK

Starwolf_UK

Anyone who ordered from gamesbasement might like to check their accounts. I have reports of people being charged 3 times the amount they should have...I think its on the order history of gamesbasement not the actual bank accounts but its not promising.

Once again, I'll blame Nintendo UK for forcing people to use such retailers.

Re: Nintendo: Inazuma Eleven Not Officially Launched in the UK

Starwolf_UK

@uel. Yes but its one language per cart (otherwise everyone would just get a copy from France and forget this whole thing) and the English cards from Nordic countries are mega-expensive and hard to find retailers selling it that ship inside the rest of Europe let alone outside.

Also (if you're thinking "but I see a UK retailer selling on the sidebar there"), Gamesbasement are shoddy. I know 6 people who ordered this from them only for 5 of them to have the money taken and no copy of the game. The money was taken immediately (most retailers take money once they've sent a produce) and given this news story its clear they have no stock and won't for a while...

Re: Nintendo: Inazuma Eleven Not Officially Launched in the UK

Starwolf_UK

I'm lost for words at the stupidity of this whole affair.

Can't want until the cartoon does come and retailers don't want the game because the DS has passed its heyday or the cartoon is on some channel requiring a paid subscription to watch...

If I get the chance to at the 3DS event I go to I'll mention it. Even a simple "sorry no DS questions, 3DS ones only" at least they hear what is said. Enough people do that and something might happen. Most likely thing is nothing happens and you're left to order it from a Nordic country (not particularly easy) or the other means of playing it...or you just wait 6 months.

Re: Gaijin Games Releases BIT.TRIP Teaser

Starwolf_UK

Did you know they have these teasers for every game in the series. They appear on the first game-specific page of the manual on the Wii shop (not that anyone reads those as they still get blown away by some of the titles having mutiplayer).

Re: Snowpack Park

Starwolf_UK

A skip employee confirmed on Twitter that they did work on this game which explains why it feels like a Skip game (Chibi Robo, Captain Rainbow)

Re: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary is 50Hz Only

Starwolf_UK

@Ristar42. Regarding music, all SNES games had correct speed music as the sound processor had its own timing, independent of refresh rate. As for NES games, given how commonly they use the 60Hz version of the SMB theme in promotional stuff rather than 50Hz version (which is high pitched and slightly faster due to how the NES works) the CD certainly won't be corrected.

In the case of Megadrive games, its sound processor was linked to refresh rate. Some games had coding whereby the music was made faster if the systems region was PAL (as generally PAL region systems ran in 50Hz unless you've made modifications in which case you would probably also have a region mod switch) which means it sounds normal (the music is 6/5 faster but since the processor is at 5/6 speed the numbers cancel to make 1).

As for how this links with the VC. Nintendo seem to be reluctant about having say, the US ROM for 60Hz and use an if statement on boot to switch between the two for whatever reason (why two? some PAL optimized games behave very strangely at 60Hz). I can see in some cases it being a bureaucratic nightmare (different companies logos on the versions or no US version) but those are the exception.

Also, in the case of later games in systems some basically throw up error messages if set to the wrong region or refresh rate. PAL Super Mario All-Stars will refuse to boot up in 60Hz (though if you use a SNES modified to have a 60Hz switch you can boot it at 50Hz, flick the 60Hz switch and enjoy it the way it should be).

Re: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary is 50Hz Only

Starwolf_UK

Sadly one problem I forgot with the PR nightmare is 99% of Wii owners use the cables that came with the box. Those horrid composite cables and not even realizing that to get shiny graphics on their shiny TV they need component (doesn't help official ones have vanished from the face of the Earth).

Sadly the 50Hz games work fine with the composite cables no matter which TV.

Re: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary is 50Hz Only

Starwolf_UK

Hope it is like the VC games which won't work on some brands of HDTVs. That'll be a fun Christmas present for families everywhere. NoE deserve no mercy for single handedly RUINING the Virtual console by one careless decision made by a clueless suit and its time they paid for it with a PR nightmare (because the few Euro-centric blogs and other gaming journalists are too scared to actually do their job as they'll lose out on PR gifts and Nintendo being their fwend)

Re: Feature: Celebrating Super Famicom's 20th Anniversary

Starwolf_UK

@shinesprite. Or any of the modern consoles for that matter...looks like a retro setup to me.

Its always nice to hear how someones first import went. Sadly, mine was sort of ruined by me telling a friend and him being, oh, I've had it for a week already and I paid less than you (which is always annoying considering how expensive these imports used to be).

Re: Review: Snapdots (DSiWare)

Starwolf_UK

As for the Guru-Guru Logic Champ comments. Look who owns the rights to that franchise (its D4 enterprise, the developer, they also own the rights to most of compiles library excepting Puyo Puyo).

As for why the design is as it is. Sadly the cute puzzle games don't really sell in the west anymore. its got to be all neon coloured and trance-like.

Re: Wii Speak's Time is Officially Over

Starwolf_UK

@Zaphod Beeblebrox
Doesn't the balance board count as one of those remotes hence the most a game being able to use is 2 of them (as I assume 2 remotes are also needed for navigation).

As for Wii Speak. A headsets whose microphone is next to the noisest part of the room (i.e. the TV speakers) always was going to be a nightmare in games that actually have modest levels of sound coming out the speakers due to audio feedback (i.e. MH Tri) but Wii speak wasn't designed as a traditional headset but rather something the whole family could gather round and phone each other with...like putting a telephone on lodspeaker on the coffee table.

It probably isn't discontinued in the sense Nintendo still have stock of it if any retailers want to restock it (hint: they don't, it rots on shelves, even at £10 bomba price) but ceased production. That is probably definite.

That said I hear it works well on Wheel of Fortune.

Re: Nintendo Download: 5th November 2010 (Europe)

Starwolf_UK

@Mario Party Fan 999
The OFLC rating costs too much (it costs the same as a full retail one, which isn't fair given how the games have less of a budget, developers have kept asking for this to change) and I can only assume PopCap don't think they'll make a return on the rating so no rating and no game.

Thing is items on the iPhone app store don't require ratings (though there is word that this is going to get changed...but I don't think it'll happen with the current cost of these ratings) and IIRC PSP Minis are also the same. The reason for this is the ratings are more to do with retail and they don't have to be a requirement for a download platform but Nintendo does things thier own way and this did bite them in the back once...

In the case of Tales in a Box: Hidden shapes in perspective! they obtained an OFLC rating for game called Looksley's Line Up instead (that being the US name as generally at retail they get US DS games and EU Wii games) so they had to withdraw Tales in a Box: Hidden shapes in perspective! from the DSi shop until they re-rated it.

Re: Super Meat Boy May Skip WiiWare and Head to Retail

Starwolf_UK

@accc. you serious about it being 90MB? This just screams Team Meat trying to go for a retail release as they feel the audience has already bought in XBLA (as everyone whose online buys from there, people like myself with an actual interest in the Wii Shop but no Xbox360 don't exist) and are going for a new audience, which seems rather clever (except when it comes to Europe and it ends up costing 3 times as much as the WiiWare release...see also; World of Goo and the negative reactions to that retail release...even with a whole extra world planned).

But the "wah wah it won't fit" is just laziniess if you ask me. I thought Wiiware was the lead platform? Also if World of Goo and And Yet It Moves managed to fit in the limits (IIRC both of these are around the 200MB mark on the PC) and Machinarium (sp?) which is larger than those is also gunning for it, what is their problem?

Re: WiiWare Demos Launch This Week with Four New Downloads

Starwolf_UK

@SMW. As someone who lacks regular internet access with their Wii (Christmas is the next chance I get, then possibly easter but it could be as late as September) the prospect of demos vanishing seems more like a punishment than an incentive (as I can't change my situation, no UDP traffic for anything meaning no Xbox live and no PSN...given NOA recommend UDP traffic to all destinations for Wii connections I can only assume the Wii is the same, but I'm not buying an adapter to find out as I know it'll be a waste of money).

There might be a loophole though.

Re: Features: Bizarre Emails Sent to Nintendo Life - Volume 2

Starwolf_UK

I liked #13 but only because it reminded me of this little bit of film trivia:
A tagline originally suggested for this film was; "The future is in the hands of a man who has none." This was considered to be a confusing tagline, as it made it sound as though he had no hands, as opposed to having no future.
(from the IMDB entry for Twelve Monkeys)

That aside I wonder what the age of most the people sending these e-mails is. I've sent some fairly daft things when I was younger.

Re: Grab a Blue Classic Controller with Sonic Colours Down Under

Starwolf_UK

I'm not sure its genuine. A simple spot the difference game:
http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/Monster-Hunter-G-Launched-Bundled-with-Monster-Hunter-3-Demo-2.jpg
Wii logo is missing on Sonic one and that extra button.

And yes there are cloned classic controllers about (look perfect as they're probably made with the same mold and plastics but there is no quality control hence a rock-bottom price so they have weird bugs like not working with VC games or stiff buttons) you can even get them to match Red, Blue, pink and black remotes (it doesn't take much to follow this logic to a conclusion). They usually skip printing the Wii logo as well.

Edit: Reading up a bit more on these things the extra buttons are usually turbo and slow (remember the days when they relevant...)

Re: The DS Isn't Just for Gaming, It Can Help With Shopping Too

Starwolf_UK

I can't see a supermarket wanting to hand over the RFID data to a third party, that stuff is already enough of a controversy (do the tags get switched off?) plus supermakrets are designed to get you lost so you impulse buy random stuff (that and "special offers" of varying goodness, for instance one offer I bought today was basically buy one get one free as I saved 98p while the other was 18p which is a much smaller percentage gain as I got lazy and didn't do that maths).

Also the tags are presumably enabled while in the shop so won't the system end up finding other customers with the item as much as it finds the item.

Of course, I'm assuming RFIDs are set by the supermarket and not the manufacturer of the goods sold.

Re: Wii Remote Plus Launching in Europe Before Japan

Starwolf_UK

What happens to existing stand-along MotionPlus and regular Wii Remote. Today I noticed shops selling the Black Remote with MotionPlus for £50 and the MotionPlus for £22 while I hear in Japan the Wii Remote Plus won't cost more than a regular remote.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (WiiWare)

Starwolf_UK

@JamieO. To be honest the 16-bit Sonics weren't known for brutal difficulty throughout but rather a few tough moments. IIRC, one UK magazine back in the day lowered their Sonic 2 score because it was too easy.

@JebbyDeringer. At a guess lower quality music or more intelligent optimisation of the music and other bits of code are why the WiiWare is 40 megs. You only have to optimise when there is a filesize limit. Reminds me of this that two tribes wrote about porting Toki Tori to the iPhone (which was the other way round, making a Wiiware game smaller for iPhone), sadly it seems that story vanished from their site with the redesign

Re: North America Cools Down with Club Nintendo Folding Fans

Starwolf_UK

Japan points depreciate in value pretty quickly (as Japan has strong used market). The upside is the equivalent of intend to buy is better and 3rd part games have codes. But, I think the base payout is lower in any case.

Thing is the goods don't have to travel to America and then be shipped round it so that also changes the costs somewhat. Actually, how these things work is they have a set budget so have to be able to provide round that (Europe and Australia have very little budget which is why most of the time the goods are terrible or unwanted hand-me-downs from PR, America or Japan).

Re: Rumour: Limited Edition Red Wii Europe-Bound Before Christmas

Starwolf_UK

@LinktotheFuture. Indeed

As for no SMB. Well is it reuqired, the game is bundled with NSMBW (why not all stars?) and people will probably buy Mario all stars anyway (which has SMB on it).

But the Donkey Kong. Does the text say original edition? Whatever could that mean I wonder. I guess it promotes DKC returns.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Means Euro Club Nintendo Gets Updated

Starwolf_UK

@Drake. Yeah it was easy to stock up stars but registration slips having a finite life and stars on account having a life of 24 months makes it so much harder. 7000 stars/24 months is over 250 stars a month. If you can afford a €50 Wii game every month just buying the SNES controller off eBay is a non-issue financially.

Personally though, if I start to accelerate my registration (I only register games that are about to expire) I could afford the controller but frankly, I don't think its better than a classic controller, can anyone convince me otherwise?

@Cheezy. Post play surveys? Elite membership bonus (no platinum or gold for Europe, think of your platinum award, thats Mario, right?). Thats what America gets.

Re: Jedward: The New Face Of Nintendo UK

Starwolf_UK

Much like @mariofanatic128...
It sickens me how much money and attention these talentless freaks get.

Guess Ant and Dec worse thin so they've gone for the next upandcoming duo...might as well get the Chuckle Brothers out of retirement while they're at it

Re: New World Record as Earthbound Completed in a PK Flash

Starwolf_UK

I know on Speed Demos Archive they did it in 42 segments and through being able to use more risky strategies managed a time of two hours faster:
http://speeddemosarchive.com/EarthBound.html

But comparisons should stop at the game name as the nature of the runs is very different (I'm sure the twin galaxies is a single segment as in start to finish in one sitting). A start-to-finish you're on the stop watch is rather different from being able to hit reset when you make a mistake (in single segment you've got to decide weather its worth saving your time and letting the mistake slip through).

Re: Kirby's Epic Yarn Unravels to 2011 in Europe

Starwolf_UK

At least its actually been given a time period this time and won't be like Superstar Ultra (which was got to the point of even South Korea having it...which made me think "you-know someone should really remind NoE it hasn't come out") which was 51 weeks after the US release and as a result sold about the same amount of units.

I guess we're stilling DKC Returns for Christmas though, right. Right?

@Nintendo-Naut. Our Club Nintendo isn't that great, no elite membership whatsoever and slightly harder to accrue points in general so prices might seem a bit higher. Personally, I think the prizes are overated as they come off as "stuff Japan didn't want" and "we were just clearing the warehouse and found spares of the press kit for some year old games like Wii sports resort" which screams not trying. That said, I just got 100 Wii Points as it was use it or lose it.

Re: High Court Outlaws Flash Carts in UK

Starwolf_UK

What upsets me most about this whole affair is how the decision was made. Given the homebrew argument being thrown out due to having to break security it seems breaking security (allowing me to those 'terrible' homebrew things) had as much to do with it than piracy. It saddens me devices like iPlayer (not the BBC thing but a media player flash card) and Games and Music both of which won't run retail DS ROMs are tarred with the same brush as R4.

As for the homebrew shouldn't exist brigade, tuff luck. Ask me this, if Nintendo is trying to compete with the iPhone, why is DSiWare development so closed? One counter I'll say for homebrew is jEnesisDS DS. The person who wrote that emulator also did programming work for that Sonic Classics game SEGA released a few months back. Would that opportunity had come about if the coder had no way of being able to show the code working to the world? (let's just ignore the odd fact that in some capacity jEnesis DS is actually superior plus the homebrew community 'losing' any future versions of jEnesis DS)

@IanUniacke
Is there any proof about "imagine most pirated"? To me it seems like Ubisoft did a knee-jerk reaction to the fact the Imagine series sales momentum died which of course had nothing do with the fact a new one comes out roughly every 2 weeks and the stores are saturated with the stock hence sales decline.
Still, Ubisoft seem to actually try when it comes to piracy protection, the Wii Prince of Persia had a pretty neat way of detecting piracy (but too easy to break) and all their DS games are DSi-enhanced because it makes the ROM dumping process slightly trickier due to added header info or was it playing on outdated flashcards (such as R4) requiring game patches due to said header. Plus, it is true DSi-mode hasn't been broken (yet).

I noticed earlier comments about Retro Game Challenge and Maestro: Jump and Music. I'll also echo Maestro being killed by distribution as much as anything (though what irritates me the most is I hear some European retailer whose name I've forgotten is selling it for €10 to get rid of it, I'd have paid €20 at least if it appeared on Amazon.co.uk) though I'm pleased to see it find a way (somewhat) on iPhone and DSiWare.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent for Wii Hard Drive

Starwolf_UK

First the 3DS instal rumour
That's a good point. That rumour might have originated from this patent as well (though of course the DS does installations of some sort, how would bark mode without Nintendogs+Cats inserted work etc)

Re: Hands On: VDigi VD-W3 Wii HDMI Upscaler

Starwolf_UK

@Varoennauraa. On the product page it says "Video lag time: 8 ms".

Given my thoughts about these (not making a great difference etc), I'm actually considering one since I'm moving to study a PhD and won't have a TV to plug a Wii into and since this can be plugged into dvi inputs on a PC monitor (these tend to be cheaper than LCD TVs which would have component input). I just have to hope they eventually come back in stock.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent for Wii Hard Drive

Starwolf_UK

If I'm not mistaken you can't patent something that is already in the public domain (if you want it to hold up in court of law) which means if they made this patent after April 2009 it would be null and void (first homebrew USB loaders).

Of course the hospital units using this system pre-dates that so the patent probably does pre-date it. This is why I dislike when Siliconera posts the Nintendo patent stories as they never quote the patent number or when the application was made (two important bits of info as they would answer the above).

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z73azC6nDSU
The Nintendo world store has this one. Given how the titles are in the same order as the patent illustrations the patent probably dates back to then. The question is do full game installs on the Xbox360 invalidate the patent?

Re: Your Club Nintendo PINs Will Self-Destruct in Five Years, Australia

Starwolf_UK

As far as EU codes go Wario Ware Smooth moves expires on the 12 of the July (that is just 10 days away!).

That said going by the same dating logic my Wii play code should have expired on on 5th June and I registered it after then but I think that is due to high selling games having their date extended (I know this is what happens in Japan) as a copy of Nintendogs I have expires in 2011 despite the gaming out over a year before Wario Ware.

To be honest the whole points expiring and then the catalogue being void of goods I actually want at all (I'd imagine other people feel the same about their countries catalogue) thing just means I don't register anything (might as well start the countdown at the last possible moment rather than be forced to buy some junk I don't want) which means I don't do the waste of time survey which Iwata relies on so much in his shareholder meetings.

@SoulSilver IV. I'm just running into that problem now (250 expiring this month, no more until December) the thought is do I buy something I really don't want off the catalogue or do I just get 100 Wii points which will likely neever get spent ("just got 100 left" etc) but the problem with the Wii points is I'll keep falling back into the pattern of "oh a few points expiring i'll just get some Wii points" and thus end up buying the Wii I dsespise (the ratio on them is horrible and I think its kind of daft, "oh look I spent €60 on Nintendo games I'm so in desperate need of a €1 points, sure its nearly 2%!!!)

Re: Win One of 100 Digital Copies of Groovin' Blocks

Starwolf_UK

@ejamer. My retail copy just arrived today The screenshot showing set 2 of 4, the same area in the retail version shows set 2 of 7 so more songs is my guess on the extra features (how many I can't be totally sure, you would think the answer is *7/4 but if the later sets have less than 3 songs...). Possibly higher audio quality too.

Edit: http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/news/2009/05/groovin_blocks_coming_to_europe_soon
I think that answers the retail enhancements (except the European release never happened, I think it was due to Zushi going into administration as they used to be known as; ZOO Digital Publishing and that logo was the same font as Zoo games the North American pulbisher)

Re: Review: Spin Six (DSiWare)

Starwolf_UK

@KeeperBvK. I for one don't remember a time attack in the GBA game (also the walking game with the moving platforms and the microwave game aren't present in the DSiWare game) and the vs mode stuff could also be missing but apart from that it looks like it could be the same.

Re: Win One of 100 Digital Copies of Groovin' Blocks

Starwolf_UK

Wow, that beats the "$0.01" copies that were on Amazon.com marketplace last week (they of course had $8.00+ shipping...and shipped internationally so I went for it; their $15 seems really slow and the tracking tells me nothing but its a typical marketplace seller, make profit on postage).

As for the release in Europe well in part it is the marketplace that Nintendo made (region locked, requiring ratings which cost money, an office in the region you publishing and IIRC, the manual at the minimum translated into several languages) and if there is no money to be made out of it nobody will do it (seems like a daft oversight, lets make a marketplace for low budget games only fail to notice the entry point is too high in certain regions, Australia in particular).

The retail version was going to hit Europe but the publisher went into administration.

That said, this is out for iPhone and isn't the app store region free (it is also worth noting Octomania appears to be on the app store as well...for the 1 person still waiting for European release).

Re: Feature: The Making of Jet Force Gemini - Part One

Starwolf_UK

The slight collect-a-thon mania that plagues all Rareware titles of the time (fine collecting the ship parts, we get to go to new areas/old areas with different case members but all the tribals as well...) does it let down slightly but it was a game I greately enjoyed. As for the article, I always wondered the reason why the game was delayed while the case got modified (Juno and Vela used to look a lot younger) so I guess that explains it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May 2010 (Europe)

Starwolf_UK

Generally NoE change names to be easier to understand for non-English speakers (FIGS I guess as those are the languages NoE translates into), so puns tend to vanish away (more recently they have done literal translations of game titles though some will argue at their accuracy like Sin and Punishment 2s subtitle). As for Kirby's Avalanche I'd have to check news stories around 1993-1995 but people tend to die in Avalanches (especilly given how much Skiing goes on in Europe) so having a Kirby game with name is a bit insensitive. As for Ghost Trap. I guess the Puyos kind of look Ghostly. Personally, I would have called it Kirby's Mean Bean Machine to really confuse people

Re: Marth Returns as New Fire Emblem for DS Announced

Starwolf_UK

We already knew about a new Advance Wars
You're not making the mistake of thinking the Famicom Wars DS2 that is listed every 3 months in the Nintendo shareholders report is a new game. Its just Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (and why it still hasn't come out despite the script being written in Japanese first I have no answer for, Nintendo is a strange company sometimes).

I can't make many comments until more info and I'd rather not get into idle speculation or mad debates but I guess they have to be a bit more liberal with this remake due to certain things about the original (like no player units that could use axes...well axes were useless back then as there no build stat or strength cancelling out weight meaning axe users had no speed).

@Digiki. What? So it will be rubbish if it contains book 2 but not rubbish if it contains a cut-down version of Shadow Dragon as well (a game you just said was rubbish), which is what book 1 was.

Re: Hiroshi Yamauchi Gives Millions to Cancer Treatment Hospital

Starwolf_UK

When you've got $ several billion, and inheritance tax means 50% will go to the government anyway when you finally die you start to view money very differently. He could do a lot more but at the same time he could do a lot less and as individuals we have to respect what they decide to do (or not do) and shouldn't fall into being leechers.

In the past Yamauchi donated $60 million to another Kyoto hospital for the care they gave him (health was one of the reasons he stepped down). This might mean the donations are culturally a sort of way of saying thanks.

Re: Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials & Tribulations (WiiWare)

Starwolf_UK

Buying a DS version has the merit of being able to sell it in the future (if you would want to) and unless you're trading it to Gamestop you'll get a good proportion of the money back which would ironically make it cheaper than the WiiWare version. Still it is a bit of a shock for me that Gamestop are selling it for $15 as I remember when Trials Tribulations easily went for $30+.

Re: Nintendo Swashes Even More Pirates' Buckles

Starwolf_UK

@Raylax. You mean Wii games aren't supposed to be on DVD-Rs with market pen saying what game they are

But this case has to be dumb. Re-directing the URL is one dumb thing but handing out ROM links and the like on said website is another. Then again I guess most customers are not savvy enough to work out such things for themselves.

Re: Monster Hunter 3 a Roaring Sales Success in UK

Starwolf_UK

This article is talking about the week ending 24 April 2010 which is indeed the debut.

Tomorrow morning should bring the week ending 1st May results which will tell us if it had maintained its position or not.

I'd like to think it reached its position on merit but I feel it probably reached its position due to the fact the week was pretty slow for sales/releases (everything else at the top seems to be down on sales).

Re: A $50,000 Cure for Virtual Boy Headaches

Starwolf_UK

Why would it only display on PAL TVs when the PAL region never got the system in the first place Still going by the description its probably like the N64 in that it works best with S-video (for PAL regions S-video doesn't work for the SNES, Gamecube or Wii which makes the N64 lacking RGB but using it all the more odd)

Still this makes me wonder where the Prototype Virtual Boy has got to (which has a black and white display).
