We've just had an email from Francois over at Empty Clip Studios, asking us to let you know about an upcoming competition for North American readers only to win one of 100 copies of Groovin' Blocks, the company's rather enjoyable WiiWare puzzler.
All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is send your 16-digit Wii code to free@emptyclipstudios.com. Make sure you mention that Nintendo Life sent you!
You can check on the promotion's status and see if there are still copies to be won by heading over to the giveaway website. Want to know if it's worth buying? Check out our Groovin' Blocks review to find out what we think.
If you're unsure how to find out your Wii number, here's a handy video from the page to help you out. Good luck, and remember, this is for North America only.

how do they notify you if youve won?
I'll play anything if it's free
Already sent my code.
Sent it in, hope I get one
Are the winners chosen randomly or is it the first 100? And briunj04's question....
@SuperMarioFan I'm guessing it's based on the first 100 to send it in, otherwise they wouldn't put a limit on the number of entries.
This is what it says!
We're giving away 100 FREE COPIES of Groovin' Blocks on WiiWare™ (North America only) to anyone sending their 16-digit Wii number (see video below) to free@emptyclipstudios.com, right now!
Presumably you send your Wii number in an email and then they email you back to let you know if you've won.
OK, then I'm glad I just sent it. And I mentioned that Nintendo Life sent me.
Release the game finally in Europe and I would be happy...
Well, I gave it a shot and entered my Wii number. I really hope that I made it in time. Good luck to everyone!
Sent it.
I hope they know that we need their wii console number too, so I'm guessing emails will be sent to the winners.
Hmmmm, an hour later and the giveaway is still on. I would assume that means I made it if they're doing the giveaway by the first 100 to enter. Unless they're just trying to trick us into thinking we actually have a shot.
Wow, that beats the "$0.01" copies that were on Amazon.com marketplace last week (they of course had $8.00+ shipping...and shipped internationally so I went for it; their $15 seems really slow and the tracking tells me nothing but its a typical marketplace seller, make profit on postage).
As for the release in Europe well in part it is the marketplace that Nintendo made (region locked, requiring ratings which cost money, an office in the region you publishing and IIRC, the manual at the minimum translated into several languages) and if there is no money to be made out of it nobody will do it (seems like a daft oversight, lets make a marketplace for low budget games only fail to notice the entry point is too high in certain regions, Australia in particular).
The retail version was going to hit Europe but the publisher went into administration.
That said, this is out for iPhone and isn't the app store region free (it is also worth noting Octomania appears to be on the app store as well...for the 1 person still waiting for European release).
Sent my code. So if it's the first 100 to send an email, does that mean we won a copy? The page still says that copies are still available.
Hey everyone! Thanks for the good words! As long as the website says it's on, it's on! We'll be catching up with everyone by e-mail in the next few days, expect to hear from us soon, and tell your friends!
I've been wanting this game since I first heard about it, but money's been tight so I could never get it. Hope I manage to win.:fingers-crossed:
Sent my number out. I've heard good things about this game and you can't beat free!
Done. Sounds like a cool game.
I entered awhile ago. Hoping to hear back!
I got an email, it said to watch my wii.
@SonicMaster: Did they give any additional information?
Done! Alright, Empty Clip, pelt me with WiiWareness!
I already have the game, but to those who don't I highly recommend getting this game.
Yay! I got the email telling me to watch my Wii!
@Sandman: No, here's the entire email:
Hi! This e-mail is to confirm that we have received your e-mail for a free WiiWare(tm) copy of Groovin' Blocks! Watch your Wii console for a request so we may send you your copy.
Thank you for your interest!
Matt and Francois
And, that's pretty much it.
I guess they got the power to allow some people to download they're game for free and to send Wii Mail to people without them needing their friend code.
>_> I got my response right after I sent the email. It seems automatic. I mean, instantly sent.
Awww. I bought it already.
Just for the heck of it, I actually did say that NintendoLife sent me. We'll see what happens.
watch now silver will be the only one who wins
i sent in i knew the game was going to be good its just not my style but i was going to buy the game what matter what
it is still on i guess we were the only ones who entered oh and because of stuff like this i brought order up! from the-......wait that was zoo games .........THEIR STILL AWESOME
um...ok, so I got the confirmation email saying to watch my wii and wait....how long do I wait for my free game!?! 0.o
UM! I think i figured out how they send it to us. Wouldn't the wii code in their video be THEIR Wii Code? XD
EDIT: er, now I get the feeling that the video is from someone else, so it might not be theirs. :/ I JUST WANNA KNOW WHEN I GET MY GAME GRRR!
@35
Same here. Hopefully we both won it. it seems fun. And, you know, free.
Just sent my code, and I got the e-mail too!
Yep. Alright guys, post here when you get your game and tell us how they did it without telling you their FC first.
very excited for this. You guys need a contest page haha
I gots me a copy waiting.
And I got said confirmation email RIGHT AWAY. looks like they like me better
Hey everyone! It's Francois from Empty Clip. We'll be sending a follow-up e-mail with our Wii code to everyone within the next few days (as fast as we can get to them!). Once the "link" is complete, we will send the game ASAP. We've got a bit of a backlog here thanks for your patience!
Oh, awesome! Alright, thanks for the free game! I'll keep an eye on your company's releases after this!
I got a email too! Sweet!
I just sent my email out, I hope I get one. I love my puzzle games.
Wow I got a quick response already as well. Same as above message. Hopefully they'll send their Wii number soon. That was quick! Thanks Empty Clip
I haven't gotten anything!!! Why! I entered as early as you guys too!
I got my e-mail and it tells me to wait for a few days, hopefully I can get the game by tomorrow! Thanks EmptyClip for the free game
EDIT- You people should at least thank them if you got an e-mail seeing as they are posting here...
Aww! See! Should I resend?
Got my email afew minutes ago didn't think I would because I didn't send my wii code using the link because of some sort of error I had. Can't wait
I re-entered using my AOL account, and I got the confirmation! I hope I don't get qualified and they cancel the Yahoo one.
Hmm? People are getting immediate responses? Maybe my message bounced, or maybe it's sitting at the bottom of a fat stack of requests. Oh well... guess I'll wait to see.
Oh, and hopefully anyone who really can't wait knows they can go download the game right now. Sure it would cost 800 points... but that's a small price to pay for instant gratification, right?
Edit: Ah, the email arrived early this morning! Looks like patience paid off.
The "mailto:" link on Empty Clip's web page populates the subject line with "Giveaway". I didn't use that link and made up my own subject line the first time I tried to enter and I never got a confirmation e-mail. When I noticed that link later on, I sent another e-mail with that subject and nothing but my Wii code in the body and I got a confirmation immediately. It might just be a coincidence, but that could be something to try for other people that haven't gotten confirmation.
WEEEEEEE NEEEEEEED A COMPO INNNN THEEEEEEEEE UK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got my confirmation email earlier today. I had to send my message twice before I got the response. I'm just glad that I'm one of the lucky few who was chosen. Thank you Empty Clip.
Thanks Empty Clip Studios, if I have fun we are all spreading the word!
No sweat everyone -- there seems to have been a problem with our autoresponder which got fixed after a few entries had been sent in. This doesn't mean the e-mail wasn't received. We're still a backlogged but everyone should have gotten an e-mail by the end of the day today!
Got it thanks!
@EmptyClip:
First, thanks for the cool giveaway to promote the game.
Second, what additions or new features would people find in the retail version of Groovin' Blocks? When I looked for reviews, I didn't see a feature comparison anywhere.
Got my email too
If nintendo replaces my wii will it have the same friend code???
I entered today and I got an email back. [?] Whenever they decide to send me their wii code, I can get the game. (I think).
I just got an email today from Empty Clip with their Wii code. It has been added and now I'm just waiting for my copy of Groovin' Blocks to arrive.
So it will be a game gifted from their console to those that get the confirmation email. Still waiting for my email, but since the Empty Clip Site says the promo is still on, then I guess I'll get a confirmation email over the weekend.
@SuperPeach: Usually, that's a yes. If you send your Wii in for repairs and Nintendo decides to give you a new Wii instead you get your purchases and friend code moved to the new console. Still have to re-register your new Wii's serial number but sometimes they do that to your Club Nintendo account if you provide the infor upon repair.
I entered lol
I got my congratulations email! (But I have a problem since I'm forced to be without my Wii for two weeks! ) I notified EmptyClip, I hope they respond soon.
@ejamer. My retail copy just arrived today The screenshot showing set 2 of 4, the same area in the retail version shows set 2 of 7 so more songs is my guess on the extra features (how many I can't be totally sure, you would think the answer is *7/4 but if the later sets have less than 3 songs...). Possibly higher audio quality too.
Edit: http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/news/2009/05/groovin_blocks_coming_to_europe_soon
I think that answers the retail enhancements (except the European release never happened, I think it was due to Zushi going into administration as they used to be known as; ZOO Digital Publishing and that logo was the same font as Zoo games the North American pulbisher)
@Starwolf_UK:
Wow, great link that answers my question perfectly! Who would've thought to look at Nintendo Life for the information... coughcough Thanks for your help!
Sounds like the Groovin' Blocks retail version is worth tracking down if the WiiWare version is fun. Extra songs and stages certainly can't hurt, and in North America it's a budget release if you can actually find a copy.
Got my response and registered the number.
Oh yeah thanks for the game Empty Clip lol.
I entered the number too.
Yay, I got the game, and wow. I like it. The music aspect of it is great. Thanks a bundle, Empty Clip Studios! I'm a gonna go tell people about it.
This game is great anyone who wasn't fortune enough to get a free copy should definitely put out the 800pts (yeah easy for me to say I got a free copy) But if you are interested in this game or just have an extra 800pts sitting you should definitely get this and not Eduardo the samurai toaster I made that mistake with a spare 800pts once
I still haven't got another email with their console code, but it says it's still on. Is anyone else still waiting for theirs?
Yeah, I'm still waiting for their Wii Code...
Wooo I won, now I just have to wait for them to send it
I got the code, and should have my copy by the end of the day.
Thanks again, guys!
Wait did I win?
Awesome! I got a copy! Thanks EmptyClipStudios!
Is the lack of a second email mean we didn't win? I got the first one.
I've already sent it.
I tried to get the offer, but my Wii is set to Canada, but I want to see if other Canadians have switched their Wii to United States and accepting user agreements and refixing the Wii Shop channel before I do anything else.
OK, it works. I got the game for free and put it on my 16GB SDHC card, since it takes up 312 blocks of memory.
If you got the first email, the second one could take a while, like at least 12 hours. My copy just arrived today! WOO!
@84, I just got the second email. It didn't take 12 hours; it took 3 days. But I finally got it
I won! Boo-yeah!
Only took less than 6 hours, too.
I just downloaded my free copy! _ Thank you Empty Clip! And yeah, guys, usually, you have to wait some time- BUT YOUR PATIENCE SHALL BE REWARDED!
I hope my copy comes soon. I'm waiting to see my blue light of happiness from my wii.
Still waiting on the second e-mail, not sure if my chances are about gone by now...
Hello everyone again! Still working through the backlog; we got a good response, so sorting through everything is taking a bit longer everyone should at least have gotten our friend code by Thursday, so don't worry if you haven't heard from us yet! Thanks for your patience!
Just downloaded mine today! It seems fun so far! Thank for for the free copy!
Just downloaded my copy. WIll update somewhere with thoughts.
Got mine _ Thankies for the article about it, and thankies to the developer people.
@Beto832 Try using your email to send the code to them. Really, try it.
Got my free copy a few days ago, a nice puzzle game. I am sure to recommend it to others that I know.
Got mine early this morning. Somehow missed the e-mail on monday. Thanks for sending me reminder e-mails to and once again thanks for the free game.
@SandMan you mean like my yahoo account?
Thanks!
@Beto832 Oh good Lord, I thought you were kidding. You seriously couldn't figure that out on your own?! Please get off the internet. Thank you.
They sent me a message saying that they tried sending it to me a few times but it didn't work... How do I set my country to US, while I have a European Wii?
