@Darknyht "I still think most people will be happier if you just purchase PDP Wii U Fight Controller which plugs into a Wiimote, is styled like a Gamecube controller, has the missing buttons, and works as a classic controller in both Wii and Wii U modes."
I've got two of these on pre-order. I'll still pick up a Gamecube Controller Adaptor (for the Gamecube Controllers I already own), but the PDP controllers look like they could be an excellent option for less than £20 each in the UK.
"This adapter will allow you to connect your GameCube controller to the Nintendo Wii or Wii U. Connect your GameCube controller to your Wii or Wii U console. Compatible with all games supported by the Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro and Wii U Pro Controller."
>> Compatible with all games supported by the Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro and Wii U Pro Controller. <<
It arrived in the post today, and in all honesty, so far so good.
It looks and plays great, and the Zelda skin over the Dynasty Warriors gameplay actually works. Considering it has a pretty repetitive gameplay formula (hack and slash, repeat), It's deceptively addictive!
I'm a little unsure about the mute conversations (subtitled, but just strange occasional grunts and noises instead of words?) that occur during some scenes, but if you ignore those, it's got gameplay by the bucket.
It doesn't matter if we buy it on release or not, Ubisoft have made it quite clear they wont be supporting the Wii U with "mature" titles from now on. They're only releasing it on the Wii U now to help recover any production costs they've incurred on the (very late) port of the game.
I'll wait for it to drop in price - I've had to wait since it released for everything else back in May anyway, so I might as well wait a bit longer for the price to drop.
@electrolite77 "All well and good except with spectacularly cynical timing Nintendo are going to spend this Christmas selling the 3DS to punters knowing that when the new machines and the XC port arrive, those who've handed over their hard-earned cash won't be able to play that game. Dreadful cashgrab fleecing of long term fans."
While I appreciate your point, any new purchaser buying a 3DS since the announcement of the "New" models can hardly be described as a "long term fan". If you don't have a 3DS by now, you're pretty late to the party.
The way I see it, casual gamers will continue to pick up existing models to play existing games, the hardcore collectors will pick up the limited edition models (like the Smash 3DS XL), and anyone who follows what Nintendo does (the long term fans?) will put off buying a(nother) 3DS until the "New" models release next year.
If anything, by announcing the "New" models now, Nintendo have potentially reduced the sales of existing 3DS models over the Christmas period. A very strange thing to do when they want to sell Super Smash Bros on the 3DS very shortly.
If I were a money grabbing Nintendo Exec, I would have suggested waiting until AFTER Christmas and the launch and initial sales rush of Super Smash Bros before announcing a "New" 3DS release. Sell as many existing 'old' 3DS units as possible.
The reason to release these "New" models and the timing of the announcement is very strange, but I don't think you can really accuse Nintendo of fleecing people. They're just trying to make money, it's what companies do.
@electrolite77 I tend to agree, the idea that it will be able to play future games that older units will not, really makes it a sneaky wolf in sheep's clothing, basically an 'almost' Next Gen hand held console with backwards compatibility.
I guess the sensible thing to do is not buy either of these "New" models until they have enough exclusive games to justify the purchase of the "New" console.
The trouble is, I quite like the look of the "New 3DS" with the interchangeable covers and coloured buttons...
@electrolite77 I doubt it will divide the fan base. The current range of 3DS models have a user base of over 44 million. The new models have a current user base of zero.
Even allowing for a year or two of sales for the new models, If you were a publisher hoping to pay the rent and put food on the table, which version of the hardware would you concentrate development on?
I wouldn't be too surprised to discover that these new models are about Nintendo redesigning the current hardware to avoid some of the Patent infringement problems they've had over the last few years.
The timing of the announcement seems weird. On the run up to Christmas (and the very near release of Super Smash Bros), they announce a new 3DS range that you wont actually be able to buy (in the EU or the US) until next year.
It doesn't make that limited edition Super Smash Bros 3DS XL look quite so desirable any more.
I guess Nintendo knows what they are doing. After all, they never make poor marketing decisions.
Well, I'm not knocking all of the deals, some of the VC deals are pretty nice, but, for example; Tomodachi Life is £3 cheaper, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf is only £2 more expensive for the actual physical copies of the games via Amazon UK.
That includes free delivery.
The price of these downloadable games is still way too expensive. Even when they are on special offer, they're not even competitive with the physical copies.
Perhaps COD: BLOPS 2 has had an upturn in on-line players since the increase in Wii U owners due to MK8?
I guess all those new Wii U owners might be picking up (now cheap) older games and giving those games an increase in users that the game companies have noticed?
Has anyone who plays BLOPS 2 multi-player noticed an increase in players?
Amazon UK have the Wii version listed at £14.25 (new) and the Gamecube version listed at about £15 (used: like new).
I can see why Capcom don't think it would sell on the Wii U. If you wanted it, you would already have it (and probably for much cheaper than this new HD version will be).
As long as: > It's released roughly at the same time as the other versions. > It has at least the same game functionality as the PS3/XBox 360 versions. > All of the DLC is made available for it.
I guess adding some app like features wouldn't hurt, they could even advertise the 'app like features', but actually advertising it as an effective replacement for a modern day Tablet, even just for use within the home, would be a bad move.
Tablet computers are undergoing the same level of development life cycle as mobile phones. By the time the Wii U has reached the end of its life cycle, there will have been half a dozen tablet design revolutions.
In fact, by the time you've finished reading all these comments, Samsung will probably have announced the release of a new Galaxy Tab model.
I will be buying a PS4 at some point (when it has enough games to justify the purchase), but...
"House cites data which suggests that 40 percent of PS4 owners didn't have a PlayStation Plus account previously, which could mean they were upgrading from the Wii".
... or, it could mean they were 'upgrading' from the XBox 360.
... or, it could mean they were 'upgrading' from the PS3 and had never bothered to get a PS Plus account before, but were so desperate for games to play on their PS4 that they were hoping the PS Plus account would give them access to a few more.
In fact, isn't the usual rhetoric about the Wii that, "only casual gamers, like little children, aunts and uncles, and grandparents bought them"?
So, now all of a sudden, the "casual" Wii owner is turning into a PS4 owner?
Another game that will get poor sales on the Wii U because everyone has already bought it on another console or for PC by the time it eventually hits the shelves.
I purchased my Wii U because I wanted to play the latest Nintendo games.
I'm more than happy it came with the Gamepad, but the Gamepad wasn't the reason I purchased the Wii U. It does, however, give the Nintendo console an upfront unique feature that makes it stand apart from the other (admittedly more powerful) 'next gen' consoles.
I've found it to be a useful feature, and I wouldn't want to be without it now.
I'm really looking forward to seeing a more 'simmy' racing game on the Wii U. Even though I'm mostly terrible at racing games, I do enjoy watching the shiny racing cars zoom past me.
I hope the game isn't too downsized for the Wii U. Slightly Mad Studios has the opportunity to absolutely own the car racing genre on the Wii U with this title.

Many of the covers are great, I'm just disappointed that the N3DSXL doesn't have the same options, because I MUCH prefer the larger screen.

I want that t-shirt, but not enough to buy a 2nd Wii U bundle.
