Re: Nintendo Download: 20th March (Europe)

SCRAPPER392

This looks like a good week of EU eShop, to me. I think perhaps that people who own a 3DS OR Wii U, but not the other, are the ones being disappointed.

If you have both consoles, alot more content comes out every week, obviously.

I'm not interested in this game. There's alot of stuff like this out there that could be considered more inappropriate, more accessible, and less expensive.

This is a $30 game, IIRC. You've seen a trailer if you're willing to dish out $30. It's not even that bad, IMO. Gears of War has "tank" men, but also has characters like Sonya and that other girl that fight with them.

Besides, I thought there were guy characters in the game, too.

@banacheck
Are you kidding? You can't even have VR without 3D. If you want VR, you're going to have to accept that 3D is a "thing".

Applying the same concept to the GamePad with its 9-axis would be a more hands off approach.

I don't get why they're making an IR version, though.

Sony has technically already been beat by Oculus Rift, because they had a $700 or so projector headset for any debice that didn't have motion. This is obviously better than that. If Oculus doesn't have compatibility with all 3D devices as a display, it will have missed one chain in the link.

Re: Electronic Arts CEO Discusses The Company's Plans For Virtual Reality At SXSW

I don't get how people think 3D is a gimmick, but then want it as a standard feature in VR sets... I guess people will just shut off the 3D mode, if they can?

VR has obviously seen enough improvements to make appearances to the public eye, but I don't think it will catch on. This is basically in line with motion control and 3D, so apparently being combined into one product has sparked interest?

EDIT: This technology already exists in the GamePad - Panaram View. The only difference is that it's a not headset and doesn't have 3D. Otherwise it's essentially the same. So technically all this could already be done on the GamePad, sans 3D.

Re: Former Criterion Boss Alex Ward Laments Issues With Releasing Need For Speed On Wii U

@Nimious
ME3 is just another example of a game that they didn't find worth marketing. That's all that was. They made a port and threw it on the console. That's a job well done for anyone who cares in the first place. It doesn't matter whether I've played the game. People that published the game probably haven't even played it. This article isn't about the quality of said port. It's about marketing.

Criterion was under direct orders of EA to port the game and add some Wii U features. EA gives Criterion money, EA publishes the game, makes copies, puts it on the eShop. Job done. It was on the front page of the eShop for months.

Re: Former Criterion Boss Alex Ward Laments Issues With Releasing Need For Speed On Wii U

SCRAPPER392

That's why I think most of the games companies ported weren't necessarily put out with intents to do well. Even though Ubisoft has supported the console the most, they expected sales, while I think the effort put in place by EA was never expected to sell.

ME3, Madden, FIFA, and NFS couldn't have been expected to do well, because of the given situation.

This story is about a guy that was not acknowledged the way he wanted to be, and nothing more. They got paid, and that's where everyone should be drawing the line.

Re: Nintendo Switching Off Wi-Fi Connection Service On Wii And DS

SCRAPPER392

@MAB has provided the answer for all you fine folks

I'm not disappointed at all. The only game I played online was Mario Kart Wii, and the new one is coming out. Also, Nintendo isn't messing around about leaving Wii behind ASAP. The Wii U is better, so you might as well scrounge up your pennies and buy one. Have a garage sale and buy a Wii U, people.

I went with a portable drive using a y-cable, because portable drives tend to have better durability and are smaller. I also had faster load and write times having the y-cable.

I had a powered HDD of the same brand(Toshiba), but I accidentally moved it while it was on and it started making weird noises. I returned it to Toshiba under warranty and replaced it with the portable version that has shock sensors and such. I know it was my fault that I moved the thing while it was on, but I'd rather avoid breaking a drive by just getting one that can handle being moved around. As I mentioned before, it worked better than the ext. powered drive, so I'm thinking that dual power USB enhances data rates, but that other drive may have been defective to begin with.

Just my $0.02

Re: NPD Data Shows More U.S. Gamers Switching to Downloads

Plus, there's actually some pretty good deals most of the time. RE: Revelations was $20 during a sale, and I used a $5 eShop promo code to cut it to $15. There's indie sales, Scriblenauts and Rayman went down in price, and they occasionally do a 30% off.

In NA, usually you can get a pretty good deal on buying digital. Best Buy is selling eShop cards for 20%. If you pair that with a store's reward program and the eShop promo, you can get $10+ off the original price pretty easily.

That's what I do, anyway.

Re: NPD Data Shows More U.S. Gamers Switching to Downloads

SCRAPPER392

Digital for me. 12 of my 15 games are digital. I bought the CoD games and didn't really bother to get the digital version of Nintendo Land that I got with my Deluxe console.

I also prefer VC over the carts and have plenty of indie games. I think it's alot better to have everything in one place.

My entire Xbox 360 and PS3 library is digital, too. I've been doing this for a while, so I was happy that Nintendo has embraced the eShop as they have.

Re: Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demonstrates That Major Third-Parties Are Walking Away

@SuperBoo76
The 3DS is very well built. The original is arguably better built than the XL. I know what you're talking about on the back coming off, but that really isn't that big of a deal for alot of people. I had an original 3DS from 2011, then got an XL when those came out. My brother dropped both of them from 3 feet or higher multiple times and only got a few scratches.

So, from my experience, 3DS/DS systems are very durable. The backing might try to come off a little if you accidentally pull at it, but it won't even come off all the way without unscrewing it. I can assure you that the 3DS variations are VERY durable. Maybe you don't like the design or have been very rough, but I've never had a Nintendo handheld or console "die" from physical damage.

Re: Shin'en Multimedia Lining Up Another Wii U Game Reveal

SCRAPPER392

I'm pretty sure Shin'en's development team isn't big enough to handle an F-Zero or Starfox game in a reasonable amount of time. They could, but it would take a LOOOONG time with a team size that's not comparable to bigger 3rd parties.

I'm not saying it has anything to do with development skill, but the team size.
