It's been a big week for the games industry in Japan, with Sony's PS4 arriving in the market. Naturally it's made a splash in both the hardware and software charts, leaving efforts on 3DS, Wii U and other systems up against a new group of launch games.

To start with software, as always, Knack on PS4 is top by virtue of being bundled with the system. Of more interest is Yakuza: Ishin, perhaps, with the PS3 version outselling the new system's iteration; no doubt helped along by the much larger userbase. From a Nintendo perspective the 3DS still has a decent seven games in the top 20, with Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Wonderful Mysterious Keys leading the way in 4th place. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze picked up another 14,330 sales to creep past 50,000 physical retail sales to date — lifetime sales are in parenthesis, below.

1. [PS4] Knack (First Limited Pack included) – 309,304 (New)

9. [3DS] Kirby: Triple Deluxe – 17,665 (457,796)
10. [3DS] Puzzle & Dragons Z – 15,092 (1,374,333)

19. [PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Full Boost – 7,763 (321,054)
20. [PS4] Need for Speed: Rivals – 6,602 (New)

On the hardware front the PS4 is, of course, at the top. Media Create's reported figure is a fair bit below the Famitsu equivalent (322,083) from earlier this week. As a form of comparison, the Wii U sold 307,471 units in its launch weekend, only slightly below the PS4 launch numbers below — it's a game of momentum. The 3DS LL (XL) remains top of the rest despite a dip, though the standard 3DS model did fall below the PS3, while Wii U remains in four figures — last week's sales are in parenthesis.

PlayStation 4 – 309,154 (N/A)
3DS LL – 22,253 (27,650)
PlayStation Vita – 16,857 (17,081)
PlayStation 3 -9,983 (10,226)
3DS – 9,898 (12,066)
Wii U – 8,407 (8,782)
PSP – 3,171 (2,944)
PlayStation Vita TV – 1,383 (1,267)
Xbox 360 – 241 (256)

No surprise that the PS4 is top at launch, though the 3DS lineup is still a robust presence in the software chart — it'll be interesting to see how the Wii U hardware comparison continues in terms of the momentum for Sony's system in Japan.
