@Rafie Also, I read the article you posted. These are the highlights I found: 1. "RISC however (because of less space taken up for instructions on-die) requires less space, and can fill this with say more general purpose registers. CISC places an emphasis on the hardware, while software is the focus of RISC."
2. "RISC based processors have the advantage of often offering better theoretical performance than CISC, but at the cost of ease of development time."
3. "The PS3′s Cell runs at 3.2GHZ (which is clearly higher than say the AMD’s Jaguar – which even on the Xbox One runs only at 1.75GHZ – about half the speed)."
So point one basically explains why Wii U doesn't need need as much RAM to run programs, because the code itself is doing most of the work as mentioned that RISC has emphasis on code, rather than hardware. If the code is also less memory intensive, that also means that there doesn't have to be as many resources to draw from, which is why Wii U's parts look significantly less on paper.
Point 2 is emphasised, because that is exactly why Xbox One and PS4 have gotten a jump in graphics over Wii U. Not only is CISC programming on their side by default, but alot of the path has already been laid by PC which made alot of these graphic enhancements years ago.
Point 3 is about GHZ. Alot of people thought Wii U having a slower GHZ rate was a bad sign, but now we see Jaguar running just a bit faster and all them are running slower than 7th gen. This can vary from machine to machine, but it does emphasise the point that lots of people didn't know what the GHZ rate meant, so they automatically thought slower/smaller wasn't good, which is obviously false.
In conclusion, none of these consoles are technically better or worse than each other. PS4 has more specs for graphics in comparison, while Xbox One focuses its resources on things like heavier Kinect integration, more voice commands, etc. Wii U is PowerPC, and uses it's GPGPU to run the screen by default, as long as code is running through it. I'm guessing you meant that Wii U wasn't as technically impressive, because of the hardware itself, but the hardware can handle heavier code in a smaller space, which is what puts it in line with modern machines. I'm talking 2010, forward.
@Rafie - x86 and PowerPC IS NOT another argument in itself. IT IS the argument. It depends on what you think a good technical aspect is. Xbox One and PS4 aren't technically better on the fact that they are different architectures. Comparing them is useless. We'll see how well Wii U holds up once it starts getting more titles to show what it can do. The only reason why Xbox One and PS4 have better graphics right now, is because PC laid the foundation those consoles are now occupying.
EDIT: Also, yes, this site isn't nearly as ridiculous as the others. Zelda and Smash Bros. will show some power of the console, so we have those to look forward to.
@electrolite77 - I don't think you understood what I said. Wii U is the most powerful PowerPC available to consumers, to date. It's not 8th generation by only frameframe.
@Rafie - I'm just wondering how people got the idea that Wii U isn't an 8th gen console. Anyone who knows anything about the difference between PowerPC and x86 wouldn't be saying Wii U is weaker than anything.
@Jazzer94 - Well, Nintendo got similar graphics from Wii U that took Sony 7 years to get on PS3, so it really depends on how long it took them to develop Pikmin 3, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Super Mario 3D World.
PS4 and Xbox One aren't as strong as Wii U, either, because they are not PowerPC, and PowerPC is generally used for entirely different tasks than x86. The problem with these discussions, is that none of them are as powerful as each other in one way or another, but everybody keeps wanting to compare them.
The fact that it was brought up; needs to be disputed. In terms of software comparison, you would be correct, but according to the specs of PowerPC, those 1st party games aren't Wii U running at 100%. The same goes for Xbox One and PS4, too, but it has been easier to get better graphics from x86, thus far, so those consoles have debatably reached a higher point based purely on x86, alone.
@Jazzer94 - You don't know that for sure. Even Crytek doesn't know that, because they haven't tried, since Microsoft paid for it to be exclusive. They haven't even tried to get it running on PS4, because of the exclusiveness.
The point is that a "next-gen" engine would get a game onto Wii U that wouldn't be possible on 7th gen. Anyone that has looked into it would have known this before Wii U even launched, but then we keep having to discuss it for whatever reason; almost 2 years after the console was launched.
@Jazzer94 - It depends on what you mean by argue. I haven't seen anything the Wii U can't do, in terms of 3rd party games, which is what alot of this discussion is about. Wii U is on the compatibility list of the engine that runs Ryse on Xbox One and PC, so guess what that means.
Even DX11 which essential confirms DX12, as well, can run on Wii U, as long as it is optimized for the platform. Alot of this whole blundering has been going on, because people can't even read a simple engine compatibility sheet, apparently.
I have Wii U, 3DS, and Xbox One. The only other machine I need is a decent smartphone, probably. PS4 has the best graphics, but alot of the time it doesn't even matter. If you want good graphics, you should just go with PC.
I agree that everyone should have a second console, and at least one handheld; maybe 2.
I don't think it's Metroid. The entire reason why Other M and Donkey Kong Returns exist, is because Retro isn't working on Metroid anymore. Their goals may have changed since then, but I highly doubt it.
@CaptainToad I understand. I'm just saying that Ubisoft probably can't even get the game running properly on PS3. PS3 has like 80 million consoles, and their games still sell fairly well on there. They even specifically said that Xbox 360's hardware more easily supports the game than either. So yes, profitability is the key aspect, but said profitability doesn't exist here because of the hardware misunderstandings of BOTH the PS3 and Wii U.
Sony is the only company that pushed PS3, and now we've gotten to a point where Ubisoft doesn't even know enough about PS3's hardware, because they gave it Xbox 360 ports all generation and called it a day.
@CaptainToad Apparently not PS3, either. This sheds some light on how 3rd paries are treating consoles. This 100% proves that sales are not the issue, because PS3 is involved in the exclusion.
@midnafanboy - It depends on what you think poor sales are. The PS3 isn't getting the game, and sometimes games sold even more on that than Xbox 360. This is only a matter of that Xbox 360 can run the game for what it is; easier than properly running the game on PS3 or Wii U, which would take more time and money.
@SilentHunter382 - I can almost guarantee it was the other way around. They probably have it running as well as they can on Xbox One and PS4, then decided to go back to see if the 7th gen consoles could run it, and found out they could still get it to run on Xbox 360 fairly easily.
They wouldn't be doing it if it was seriously time consuming, difficult, and cost more.
@Faruko - False. If the Xbox 360 is powerful enough to run the game, then Wii U could technically get an immediate port. They just don't want to do that, and Xbox One currently has less consoles than Wii U. We've been over this like a million times. If they aren't even bothered to put it on PS3, that should tell you enough.
All this shows is that Ubisoft knows more about Xbox 360 than they do PS3 and Wii U. The fact that it is skipping PS3, means they never fully learned the hardware at all. Only Sony knew how to max out the graphics, but that's not even what this is about, because it's the gameplay elements that they lack understanding of to implement on PS3 and Wii U.
@unrandomsam There are some good things on iOS and Android, but the junk still outweighs it by like 90%, at best. Besides, the eShop hasn't been around nearly as long, and you really want to compare what has more content? Okay... then...
Well, I already saw the playthrough, so it's kind of pointless. 50¢ is tempting, regardless. That's why smartphone games sell well, even if they are below average.
Well, I still have my launch copy, so I'll give it a go. People are just more interested in BO II than Ghosts. I like the sliding more than the dive, but otherwise they're just about as good as one another, and Ghosts has more custom options. Most of the BO II stages are better, though, IMO.
TBH, the paid DLC that is missing doesn't bother me that much. It used to, but I realized that I don't like paying for some stuff, especially when Activision milks DLC ALL THE FREAKING TIME and the player count was never very high, although it's always a possibility it could of been higher, but they would have had to have ALL the DLC. Never the less, I'm fine with just having this DLC.
I haven't bought it. I have $10 worth of eShop promo money, but I'm kind of torn between this, Scram Kitty, or anything in the $1-15 range, really, and I only need to spend $3 to get $5 more.
@Technosphile I got to agree, but I don't think that will happen. Bill Trinen at the Nintendo Treehouse beat a "pro" called scar at comic con(I think it was CC) with Rosalina and scar used Mario(his main) fairly easily, and the Bill Trinen guy isn't even considered a "pro".
They were both making stupid mistakes, and scar beat him Mario vs. Mario, but that shouldn't even happen if he's really a pro vs. a Nintendo employee.
I think it's just a matter of getting used to the new game where "pros" might drop the game entirely and say it isn't worth it, but we'll just have to see.
It's not strange. They want Wii owners to upgrade to Wii U as much as Nintendo does. They won't be able to support the Wii forever, and the next logical step is Wii U.
Well, there is always the option of just banning whoever's NNID for using illegal software. Microsoft does that with the Xbox systems. The same goes for cheating. They can leave their console offline to avoid security checks, but that's not really worth doing for a majority of people, or the possibility that the games just don't work.
The whole pirating thing just seems stupid in most cases.
I've been thinking this for a while. I was really hoping we wouldn't see this type of thing, but it isn't entirely unavoidable. A few titles come to mind...
I think they just need to market it as a home console that heavily make use of a tablet controller. They could technically compete with that market, but it would require them thave MUCH more apps and features than they currenly have.
As many have already said, Sony dropped the ball on their little figurations. If PS Plus is really what their evidence is to show that people upgraded from Wii, they really didn't think this out.
Not having PS Plus could point out that Xbox 360, Wii, OR PS3 people upgraded, because they either never had the option or they just didn't subscribe on PS3.
@Jazzer94 - No. Most of the work to port games was done the first time around. For example, CoD Ghosts was easier to port than CoD Black Ops II, because they had already ported before. The same goes for Assassin's Creed 4. They ported Assassin's Creed 3, so they had enough knowledge to port AC4 in a faster and more efficient manner, which equals less money being spent in the process. It's just like how 3DS will get cheaper, because the resources and such start to pay for themselves.
Also, I'm not over generalizing. 50,000 copies sold is actaully a safe estimate, which is why I used it in the first place.
@Jazzer94 - I can't post a link right now, so search "Wii U ports cost $1.3 million for Ubisoft", or something similar. The rest of the math figured was how much they spend to make discs, development of the Xbox 360 version in relation to Wii U, etc. The only ports that did poorly, were NBA 2K13, Deus Ex, NFS:MW and Splintercell. Everything else made 3rd parties money.
EDIT: Factor in that people don't want to buy gimped games, and they didn't do half bad.
@Jazzer94 - That's the funny thing, though, because I don't make up stuff, but you think I do. Also, I said ESTIMATE. I understand not every game costs the same, but generally speaking, all those 7th gen ports were successful once they passed the 50,000 mark, so now figure how well a game did, that sold 150,000.
@midnafanboy Well, there will probably be discusion about it, besides this article. Once we see how it sells, there will probably be a thread, and we'll discuss it there. If there isn't a thread, I'll start one, whether it is good OR bad news.
@Jazzer94 The estimate is omewhere around there. I've explained this to you, multiple times. It cost $1.2 million at launch, and ports have becmoe even cheaper since then. Selling 50,000 would cover that cost.
I'm not even talking about exclusive games. Even if Sonic LOst World sold poorly, Sega didn't lose anything from that; Nintendo did, because they are the ones who paid for those games. The exclusive games are in an entirely different subject, because 3rd parties got a free ride from Nintendo, which would reflect how well exclusives can sell, and was mainly existent for them to sell Wii U consoles.
@midnafanboy I'm not saying Watch Dogs or Project Cars will sell well. I'm saying that most of the games that have been released actually made these companies money. We don't know how well Watch Dogs or Project Cars will do, until they actaully come out. That's why we need to wait and see, instead of assuming. No one can predict the future.
@Jazzer94 Money wise, 130,000 is not poor. THAT is fact. Did you not just read that any ported 3rd party game that sold over 50,000 is OK? Sonic sold like 300,000 copies on Wii U, which was a major success for Sega. Assassin's Creed 3 sold like 260,000 copies, and these are only counting physical sales. Wii U is selling a reasonable amount of copies in comparison to 7th gen systems, which is making them money.
@Midnafanboy The reasoning is that 8th gen games would cost FAR more to bring onto Wii U, so they have to plan their finances accordingly. They could bring this game to Wii U, but it's a matter of how much it would cost to port an 8th gen version. So far, developers have only ported 7th gen versions of games, which are less demanding.
This is the reason why Project Cars and Watch Dogs got delayed. Ubisoft holding back that one game is just to maximize profit. They'll sell more on Wii U, if it has 8 million owners, than if there is 6 million, and they have the luxary of releasing a game whenever they think people will buy anything.
@midnafanboy Those games sold fine, too. Basically anything that sold over 50,000 copies was considered good enough. They didn't sell as much as they did on Xbox 360 and PS3(most of the games), but they still sold well, considering it was a straight port and the install base that Wii U has/had.
@Beetlejuice That's fair enough. I was just trying to point out that alot of the reasons that people think Wii U isn't getting games, aren't really legitimate.
@KingCreezy Yes. Like saying Mario is "milked", and that's why Nintendo sucks, but then AC and CoD still exist. People just don't even realize what they are saying, alot of the time. They aren't joking, though, because otherwise the discussion would end as soon as legitmate information is brought up.
@Beetlejuice Did you not read my whole post or something? The Wii U version sold like half of the Xbox 360 version, and 1/7th of the PS3 sales, despite having 10's of millions of less consles to sell on. That is not selling poorly.
@Hy8ogen - That's probably true. Look at Jazzer94's comment, for example, though. He says "poor" sales of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is a reason why a Wii U version isn't coming,
TTT2 sales(VGchartz):
Wii U - .13
Xbox 360 - .30
PS3 - .71
...and we all know which platforms have around 80 million consoles in homes...
Saying Wii U wouldn't get the new game, based on sales, is just being ignorant. Fact. They just said they could put it on any platform they want, so good luck to anyone who says Wii U won't be able to run the game; like an idiot.
Why is everyone saying it on't come to Wii U? They haven't even said anything. That's what's wrong with the gaming community; assuming, trolling, and not even having a sufficient amount of info on various topics.
This is pretty crazy... Rayman being in Smash Bros. would be cool, IMO. He probably isn't anything more than a trophy, though. Maybe they replaced Sam Fisher for Snake, so that they can make room for Bomberman
It's not going to get cancelled. They're just doing the same thing that Ubisoft did to Watch Dogs. A delay does not mean cancelled. It does suck, though...
I've been playing this on Xbox One(Games with Gold), and it's worth a buy on Wii U, if you don't have it. It's a little boring at first, but it's gets better after the first temple or so.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U May be Best as One of Two Consoles, Just Like Wii
@Rafie
Also, I read the article you posted. These are the highlights I found:

Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Jazzer94 - I can't post a link right now, so search "Wii U ports cost $1.3 million for Ubisoft", or something similar. The rest of the math figured was how much they spend to make discs, development of the Xbox 360 version in relation to Wii U, etc. The only ports that did poorly, were NBA 2K13, Deus Ex, NFS:MW and Splintercell. Everything else made 3rd parties money.
EDIT: Factor in that people don't want to buy gimped games, and they didn't do half bad.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Jazzer94 - That's the funny thing, though, because I don't make up stuff, but you think I do. Also, I said ESTIMATE. I understand not every game costs the same, but generally speaking, all those 7th gen ports were successful once they passed the 50,000 mark, so now figure how well a game did, that sold 150,000.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@midnafanboy
Well, there will probably be discusion about it, besides this article. Once we see how it sells, there will probably be a thread, and we'll discuss it there. If there isn't a thread, I'll start one, whether it is good OR bad news.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@midnafanboy
I understand the reasoning, but that dioesn't mean it will actually happen. Just wait and see how they sell, then we'll discuss it.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Jazzer94
The estimate is omewhere around there.
@midnafanboy
I'm not saying Watch Dogs or Project Cars will sell well. I'm saying that most of the games that have been released actually made these companies money. We don't know how well Watch Dogs or Project Cars will do, until they actaully come out. That's why we need to wait and see, instead of assuming. No one can predict the future.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Jazzer94
Money wise, 130,000 is not poor.
@Midnafanboy
The reasoning is that 8th gen games would cost FAR more to bring onto Wii U, so they have to plan their finances accordingly.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@midnafanboy
Those games sold fine, too. Basically anything that sold over 50,000 copies was considered good enough. They didn't sell as much as they did on Xbox 360 and PS3(most of the games), but they still sold well, considering it was a straight port and the install base that Wii U has/had.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@midnafanboy
Look at my #21 post. The Wii U version of the last Tekken game actually sold well/decent next to the PS3 and Xbox 360 version.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@midnafan
How am I defending anything? You're saying it won't sell on Wii U, when there is actaully information that says otherwise.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@midnafanboy
You have to be kidding...
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Beetlejuice
That's fair enough. I was just trying to point out that alot of the reasons that people think Wii U isn't getting games, aren't really legitimate.
@KingCreezy
Yes. Like saying Mario is "milked", and that's why Nintendo sucks, but then AC and CoD still exist. People just don't even realize what they are saying, alot of the time. They aren't joking, though, because otherwise the discussion would end as soon as legitmate information is brought up.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Beetlejuice
Did you not read my whole post or something? The Wii U version sold like half of the Xbox 360 version, and 1/7th of the PS3 sales, despite having 10's of millions of less consles to sell on. That is not selling poorly.
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
@Hy8ogen - That's probably true. Look at Jazzer94's comment, for example, though. He says "poor" sales of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is a reason why a Wii U version isn't coming,
TTT2 sales(VGchartz):
Re: Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Unconfirmed
Why is everyone saying it on't come to Wii U? They haven't even said anything. That's what's wrong with the gaming community; assuming, trolling, and not even having a sufficient amount of info on various topics.
Re: Rayman Trophy Revealed For Super Smash Bros. On Wii U And 3DS
This is pretty crazy... Rayman being in Smash Bros. would be cool, IMO. He probably isn't anything more than a trophy, though. Maybe they replaced Sam Fisher for Snake, so that they can make room for Bomberman
Re: Wii U Version Of Project CARS Drops To The Back Of The Starting Grid
It's not going to get cancelled. They're just doing the same thing that Ubisoft did to Watch Dogs. A delay does not mean cancelled. It does suck, though...
Re: Review: Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Wii U eShop)
I've been playing this on Xbox One(Games with Gold), and it's worth a buy on Wii U, if you don't have it. It's a little boring at first, but it's gets better after the first temple or so.
Re: New Converse X Super Mario Bros. Shoes Are Stepping Into Japan
I'm fine with wearing my Nikes and the Club Nintendo laces.
