Re: Review: Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX - All Monsters Go To Heaven In Tecmo's Cult Classic

@Specter_of-the_OLED That wouldn't really be in the spirit of the original games though, which is what the current system is trying to approximate, even if using a search feature is kinda lame...

The original games back in the day didn't mandate that you HAD to use PS1/PS2 games...The fact that it gave new life to any old CDs you might've had around the house is what made it special. If you could only use Switch carts (which cost on average $50-$60), people would run out of monsters real quick.

@Noelemahc I think you might be underestimating the cultural penetration that the original Ducktales game had (to the point that the "Moon" theme was even paid homage to in the recent cartoon)...Even though the sequel has been available via remasters and ROMs, it's hard to compete with the exposure and nostalgia power of the first one.

(Personally, I think the first one is also a better game, but maybe I haven't played Ducktales 2 enough...)

@SonOfVon Well, I think the benefit of the technological advancements in question is that they have allowed smaller studios to create a finished product without breaking the bank, but much like the hand-drawn animation of old Looney Tunes, which can stand up to almost any modern cartoon, the amount of work put into making Curse of Monkey Island (or really any Lucas Arts games of that era) look as good as it does speaks as much to a strong human understanding of movement and balance that I don't think a modern graphics engine can replace...

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of how this game looks either, and there are absolutely modern examples from small studios that look gorgeous (as you mentioned), but I suspect that's due more to this game's priorities probably being elsewhere (maybe the story telling, who knows!)

Being able to make your own grenades on the go in RE Village has really helped me get over that particular hang-up!

Also, I don’t think anyone beats Salazar legit more than once...I’ve played through that game in the double digits, and I’m pretty sure they give you the free rocket launcher in the castle just because that fight sucks.

I miss idiot beefcake Leon...he’s much too grim and serious in 6

@MrGlubGlub It really is. Just picked it up after reading glowing recommendations on a couple sites, and I’m already struggling to find the fun. Four bosses in and the repetitive, button-mashing hallway combat is really wearing out it’s welcome...This is supposed to be one of the game’s highlights?

Its a shame, because I’m loving the design of the world and characters, but not sure I’m gonna be able to finish this one...
