@Hardy83 Tetris Party was developed and published by Hudson, not Nintendo.
Frankly, Nintendo actually has a good few WiiWare games on the service: Pokemon Ranch, Dr Mario, Maboshi, Actionloop (Magnetica) Twist, AS: Orbient, AS: Cubello, AS: Rotohex, and Lonpos. Only Hudson and Gameloft have similar amounts of games available.
I think I'll pass. I loved Rainbow Islands on the Amiga, but this remake doesn't seem all that hot; about as lackluster as the Bubble Bobble update. Too bad.
As much as my interest is piqued here, I really want to know what's going on with the Rainbow Island game. It was one of my favorite games on my Amiga.
Looking forward to this one, especially since I have trouble playing the Mac build on my new Macbook: the OS locks up when trying to access either the map or item screen. =/
It's not much of a game really, and creating moves can be quite the challenge. I've previously downloaded the "game" on my Mac, and I tried to get into it, but, ultimately, I don't have the patience for the pain-staking minute changes one has to make for every fraction of a second.
Don't expect to be able to pull off anything you see in the trailer anytime soon.
What a nice Christmas treat. Good for you guys. Personally, I deleted my Wii version and kept playing the second copy I bought for my Mac due to much crisper presentation. That said, it does seem to me that building towers of goo is a bit easier when playing with a wiimote.
My main beef with the game is the lack of any palpable challenge, even in hard mode, especially when considering being able to use something like the reverse gravity action. After playing one match for the better part of an hour I just totally lost interest in actually chasing the high score. It felt less like fun and more like a chore. This is where the game fails majorly for me. It has little to do with skill and all the more to do with the player's endurance. About as equally fun has killing thousands of the same wild boars (and other assorted critters) in World of Warcraft. ZZZZZzzzzzz.
Yes, the presentation is nice, but it doesn't save the game from being un-fun. I like pinball games, a lot, whether they're more inspired by classic arcade designs or consist of interactive tables. In the end, I can't recommend ACR to anybody. 5 in my book.
Ugh. I am sorely disappointed in ACR. While the audio and visual presentation is quite nice, the game itself is a bore and hardly challenging. The table layout is too simple and the special stage(s) just gets recycled over and over again with exact same enemy positioning, merely featuring different types of aliens.
For those of you who are interested in the game but haven't picked up the original Alien Crush on the VC I definitely recommend the latter over the lame ACR. It's a much better game, for sure. It also provides a good challenge.
I doubt any amount of DLC will be able to save this one.
At this rate I doubt the Art Style series will ever disappoint. Rotohex is Dialhex plus a vs Mode.
I've only made it to the color purple so far. Very fun and simple like the rest. You have to complete same-colored hexagons by rotating around triangles as indicated by the pulsing hexagons on the sideline. Once you finish six hexagons of that color a new color to complete gets thrown into the mix and, naturally, the triangles increase in drops as you progress.
Every now and then a special triangle gets dropped, which can have one of two effects when the special piece is used in clearing a hexagon... let's say the special triangle is light green; match the base with a different colored triangle's base, i.e. a blue one, and all other light green triangles on the playfield will be turned blue. If it was facing another light green triangle it clears a whole column and a limited amount of extra triangles will tumble out of the playfield.
Yet, as the name implies, the game is specifically meant for local multi-play. Playing against friends is incredible fun and for this we can recommend the game wholeheartedly
Yes, there is a good amount of content, but most of the other modes can be quickly forgotten where solo players are concerned.
I very much like Sudoku, but I think it's much better suited to the likes of the DS. The whole portability aspect makes it much more worthwhile. A perfect fit for riding the bus, etc. I've still got to slog through a huge number of pre-determined puzzles from Gameloft's Platinum Sudoku before I'll even get to the puzzle generator part. It suits me just fine.
I don't think I'll ever need another one. Well, maybe one more once Kitty Spangles Sudoku for Mac will finally see its release.
I don't know. Judging from the Nintendo Channel trailer those 18 modes are counting some modes three times: once for single-player, once for versus, and once for online. We'll be lucky to get six distinctive modes out of that package.
I'm in the same boat as Jogurt. My reflexes are generally too slow for these types of games. However, it might still be worthwhile checking out if it turns out to be a decent game.
I guess there's a high score (local only), after all. You'll have to unlock endless mode first, though, which appears after beating stage five. Still trying to figure out the actual scoring mechanic.
Being able to complete a stage all depends on how you set your cubes up. While replenished ammo may provide a slight random factor, it isn't that difficult to properly position pieces by keeping track of what colors you still have to work with from your magazine.
The only slight critique I have is that some of the colors aren't that easy to tell apart with the white backdrop. They're much easier to distinguish in bonus time with its black background.
Cubello sure is a bit different. If the Art Style series is going to continue like this I'm definitely looking forward to more. Simple, challenging, addictive, fun.
What's Cubello about? Think of a swirling mass of differently colored cubes from which you have to rid all cubes from the core. You have to connect at least four cubes to get rid of them, by adding more cubes to the bulk. You only have a limited supply of cubes to add, which will only be resupplied by clearing cubes from the mass.
One of the challenges lies in the fact that you only have indirect control over the mass's rotation. Whereever you shoot a cube that's where the mass will turn. At the same time, you can't wait forever because the longer you wait before your next shot the closer the swirling mass moves towards you. If it gets close enough it's game over. The other way you can fail is by running out of cubes to shoot.
There are bonus times, which are more or less triggered randomly, but you do have a way to increase your chance. When you clear four cubes a "slot machine" will go off in the upper right corner, and when all four symbols match you go into bonus time; clear more than four cubes and an additional slot appears - you still only have to match four. Once you go into bonus time you get unlimited ammo for a specified color for a limited time.
There are no real high scores, but it does keep track of how many turns and how much time it took you to complete a stage.
Highly recommendable to puzzle fans.
Oh, and World of Goo is terrific! The hype was justified.
I don't get you people complaining about the fifteen-dollar price tag for World of Goo. PC gamers have to shell out five bucks more. So quit yer whining!
Maybe I'll finally finish Cave Story... on the Wii then. It's been sitting on my Mac's HD for a long time now. Well into the game I got distracted by other things, such as real life, and I never was able to get back into it. With new content it'll definitely be worth the cash.
It's good to see more quality titles... although "Let's Catch" should be re-titled "Let's Not!" It'll be ignored by me just like all the other shovelware.
True, it hasn't been mentioned yet whether we'll actually be able to play games from it, although I think it'd be pretty stupid if all we could do then is download directly to SD card and nothing more. Now that'd be pretty pointless.
I'm somewhat optimistic that this is what we've been waiting for, though. So, what's a good SD card brand to have for such? I haven't really bothered with one before, for obvious reasons.
Yes, Orbient is definitely worth the dough. It may look quite simple to begin with, but just wait until you get to some of the later stages. I'm not even half-way through the game and my "planet" tends to die... a lot.
Sure, it may not sport realistic physics, but the game doesn't need it either. It becomes tricky enough to avoid other planets and obstacles as it is.
I downloaded Plattchen and I quite like it. It isn't nearly as complicated as some people would have you believe, and I like that moves require forethought later on when trying to make a combo with a color that is not on the color wheel.
Rotating the colors via nunchuck takes a bit getting used to, but it's more than manageable; I wouldn't recommend playing with only the Wiimote, though.
One of my most anticipated titles. Pinball "multiplayer" has always been a bit pointless; score boards is where it's at. Future downloadable tables sounds good, too.
Personally, with the cheat I think it's a worthwhile game. That we only learned about it after the fact, though, and there is no way of knowing about it otherwise didn't sit too well with me...
Potpourrii isn't bad, but it is surely a bit slower going than your average puzzler. I don't really think it needs a tutorial mode. Reading through the instructions once I pretty much knew what to do; it only takes only the first couple stages to figure out what's going on.
I'll probably have the review by tonight/tomorrow morning.
Call me crazy, but I'm still not deterred from giving this one a go. I think the review was a tad bit harsh. The whole "it needs to be online!" notion I'll never understand, anyways.
As an aside: I think there is a definite drawback to our reviews here (mine included) in that we're not given enough time to delve further before delivering said reviews - blame the impatient readership. Two days, which may just mean a few hours of gameplay, is not a whole lot of time to fully judge a game...
It's nice that there is a video now. I really like the music. The gameplay seems a bit confusing to me, but it certainly does look like something that would appeal to me.
Hopefully Bomberman Blast will be released in addition. If not it shouldn't be too far off now.
Frankly, I can't bring myself to care much for these Strong Bad episodes. The whole Homestar Runner stuff just doesn't appeal to me at all. shrugs Well, at least some people will have fun with it.
Yup, that's about the score I would have given it, too. I still have yet to gain a star in any difficulty setting other than casual. It ain't that easy. While the graphics may seem quite simple, I really like the style.
Downloaded the game. Not bad; not bad at all. Granted, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
Playing to the beat is not as easy as it may seem. What effect does it have on the game? It furthers the build-up of the score multiplier (max x3 - x6 when successfully playing a superbeat) and the use of power-ups, which will vanish if you're off-beat. You only play as long as the particular song lasts, so there's definitely some pressure there not to dilly-dally if you want to increase your high score.
Oh, and in anything above casual difficulty there are not only three-tile stacks, but also four-tile squares, making it a bit more challenging. While the game may appear to borrow from Columns and Lumines it's quite unlike either.

Re: New DSiWare Details Revealed
Pfft. Right. No, it's not even anywhere close to 'next-gen.' It's just a slight update of the DS. That's all.
So far it certainly doesn't look like it'll be worth forking out cash for. I'll wait with Jogurt.
