"... and I wonder why they have choosen THIS game concept to be the first and not something entirely NEW with Wii Features like Motion Control and Pointing ..."
You know, not everyone is looking for those types of features, especially when you consider that a lot of games that use motion controls are often off worse for it.
Thanks, guys. I had a good time with this review. The featured music usually isn't my cup of tea either, but it suits the game very well. My favorite artist of the bunch is Ilona Europa.
Thanks to Ghostfire for making a great game. I'm definitely looking forward to future projects of theirs.
I think Gameloft's Midnight Play Pack for the DS might be a more worthwhile purchase: twenty bucks for Block Breaker Deluxe, Midnight Pool, the upcoming Midnight Bowling, and two other games...
I think I may finally just get Zuma for my Mac. What? A clone that's better than the original? That's definitely one of the rarer cases. Magnetica is just too bland and Twist's controls aren't exactly the most stellar; an IR pointer option would have made so much sense. As for the other clones, I've tried quite a few over the years but they've all felt poorly derived when compared to the former.
More like: people are too used to instant gratification.
Shoot! I've yet to come close to finishing either LostWinds or Toki Tori. I guess there's the beauty in actually being busy with work. Slow releases just don't bother me all that much. Plenty of regular Wii games yet to finish, too.
I would have liked to have seen Toki Tori, but, then again, it's not like I've had an awful lot of time to play anything, lately - I have yet to finish LostWinds. It's nice to finally have Dr Mario, though. Good times!
I'm curious about the forum. Is it going to expand the VC-Reviews forum or are they going to be completely separate from one another? Frankly, I'd think the former would be a lot more beneficial.
I hope my submission isn't too late. I saw this news item before I went to work this morning, but I didn't have enough time to finish it until afterwards. =/
Meh. Dr Mario and Toki Tori better show up the following week. As for the launch releases, I'm only interested in Lost Winds and Pop. I've never been a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise and even less so of its spin-offs.
"Anyone else getting sick at Nintendo's lack of quality control?"
Want some cheese with that whine? Microsoft or Sony aren't doing much better in that department. The only reason they don't get quite as much crap is that they're not really trying to appeal to that casual audience, which most shovelware targets.
Dang. I wouldn't be at all surprised if I was a hundred dollars (or more) poorer come next Monday - depending on the actual launch line-up, that is.
I'm pretty excited about WiiWare, that's for sure. It already looks like it's going to blow XBLA and PSN out of the water, if we keep getting the kind of games we've been seeing so far. Of course, that's just a personal opinion.
With each new announcement WiiWare is becoming more and more enticing; not that it sounded disappointing to begin with. I pity the fools who think there is nothing to play on Wii. WiiWare will ensure that the Wii will, without a doubt, remain the main gaming rig in my house. I'll just keep my 360 for those few big releases that won't come to Wii.
Even if IM comes to the US I won't be interested. I already bought the DS version (for only five bucks more), in which you can choose to play the original or the updated version - or a funky mix of both, which I found to be quite strange.
Yay, Alien Crush! I hope it won't be the only pinball game on WiiWare. I realize that pinball, even more so in video game form, is a very small niche market, but even so...
I've been a pinball nut ever since I can remember.
Frankly, I kind of doubt that WiiWare will be the next best thing. That doesn't stop me from looking forward to it, though, because it may very well be a good supplement to what's already available on Wii.
I wouldn't exactly say that XBLA is full of turds, but there are certainly quite a few titles that aren't worth a second look. On the other hand, it does feature some great games like the Prince of Persia remake, Pinball FX, Pac-Man C.E., Bomberman Live, and others.
What I do think is a bit ludicrous is that Microsoft pockets 30% (or more) of money spent on said titles.
I find it amusing that a lot of people still have yet to realize that we won't see a lot of these old titles because of license issues, publishers' demises, etc. Wishful thinking just doesn't get one very far.
I've been looking forward to Super Turrican's release ever since it was first rated. One of my favorite game series of the past.
Pop sure sounds a lot more attractive now. On first mention, I thought it was going to be way too simplistic, but it sounds like they're heading in the right direction. It's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
"Along with increasing storage memory and accessibility, I hope Nintendo releases a "Virtual Console Channel". Instead of scrolling through 4 pages of channels..."
Hear, hear! Actually when I first got my Wii I thought that this is how the VC would work. It definitely could make things a bit more organized.
I don't really care what type of solution Nintendo may come up with, as long as they create one, period. I'm already at the point at which I'm shuffling around games to and from my Wii's flash drive, and that with less than thirty games on hand. Once WiiWare will be released it'll start to become a huge pain if Nintendo decides not to release some sort of storage expansion.
I have never even owned any of the consoles available on the VC - I didn't get into console gaming until last generation: Dreamcast, Gamecube - so being able to so easily pick up some of these wonderful classics is a great boon for me. Most of the games I've bought so far I would have never gotten to play otherwise. It also is quite nice to be able to have such a variety on just one machine.
Now if we only got a solution for extra storage space instead of having to do the game shuffle onto and from SD card...
Now that I've completed it, I can say that it is indeed a fun game with some slight flaws. It's mainly the controls I had a quibble with. I don't recommend anyone to play Landstalker with the d-pad. It is way too awkward. Using the classic controller's analog stick instead works wonders on the playability. Still, some of the platforming can take a bit of trial and error, since it is difficult to judge depth of field sometimes. Also, some of the puzzles require a bit too much precise timing; I'm talking milli-seconds here.
That aside, overall the game makes for a fun, albeit a rather linear, adventure. Yes, one can explore a bit, but, most of time, the game pretty much tells you what needs to be done. It can be quite challenging towards the middle of the game, but towards the end it becomes almost a bit too easy.
I'm a bit curious why there's only one set of two sounds for every type of monster, including bosses. One for getting hurt and one for dying. You'd think they could have made at least a few more.
While some may want to compare it to Zelda, I find that hard to do. The game is a lot more involved in platforming, action and some rather creative puzzles than the older Zeldas. Also, your character doesn't care about saving the world. No, it's all about big piles of gold!
Recommendable to anyone who wants to experience something a bit different from the (sometimes overused) Zelda formula.
I wasn't too thrilled with this game. The name always popped up every now and again, but it wasn't until the VC that I got to play it, and all I can say to it is a big "Meh!". Yes, the game is imaginative in parts, but it is overshadowed by clunky controls, some lackluster environments, and that befuddling, strange orange tint.
Even if the sequel is supposed to be better, Bonk's Adventure has put me off from even trying it, in fear I may get another much less than stellar platformer. I've played much better games than this. I recommend anyone to think twice before putting your Wii points down for this one.
No! Not David Hasselhoff! Aaaargh!! *leaps off a building* Seriously, though, I never understood his popularity in Germany - even when I still lived there.

For the interested among you GT posted a trailer for the game...

Could be decent.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Pinball!

Could be worthwhile. Would like to see it in action first, though.

Re: Official Potpourrii Trailer
Pssh. What's wrong with puzzle games? Such snobbery!
Re: Official Helix WiiWare Trailer - Shake Your Booty!
Wow. So many naysayers. I'm very much looking forward to this title. I like me a good rhythm game, especially if it tries something a bit different.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Pirates - The Key of Dreams
Wherever I turn my head I just hear a lot of whining/bi***ing. You can't honestly tell me that you guys completely ran out of games to play.
Heck, I'm not even close to catching up on my backlog of several dozen games, and that's from my Wii/VC/WiiWare library alone.
Re: Alien Crush Returns - New Screenshots and Video
Cool. I love me some good pinball, and this one looks like it has promise.
Re: Mega Man 9 Is Coming To WiiWare In Retro Style
Cool. Capcom is definitely daring to be bold by keeping it 8-bit. The only thing they need to do is drop the stupid number.
I'll definitely get this, especially since it doesn't look like we'll ever see the original Mega Man games on the NA VC.

Re: Hands-On With Eternity's Child
I love the music and the art style. I just hope the game itself will turn out well.
Re: EU WiiWare Update: Actionloop Twist
I'm kind of puzzled why so many people rave about Pop. I found it kind of lacking and quite boring. shrugs That's just me I guess.
Re: Helix Brings Rhythm To WiiWare - First Videos
I, for one, am quite interested in the title. I'm pretty big on rhythm games, these days. Thanks, Elite Beat Agents.

For shame!

Not terribly interested.
Re: The Sega Master System Rap
Hardcore? Riiight. Pretty lame, actually. =P
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - February 2008
The only title on that list that I'd be interested in is Neo Nectaris. Can't beat a good and challenging strategy game.
I certainly hope the Master System makes its way to our North American shores.
Re: US VC Releases - 21st January - Super Street Fighter II
AoL 2! Yay! 'Nough said. =)
Re: Revamped Site is Now Live!
Oh, goodie! I'm definitely looking forward to the other updates.
Re: EU VC Releases - 14th September - Double Japan-only games
It does seem like a pretty dumb thing to do. If they're going to put SMB 2 on the VC they should keep it on there. Oh well.
