Japanese business ideals are a tad different from those of America or Europe. The way the article is written it seems like you think it might not be worth your while D: That's a darn bargain! 35 for tickets for the grunts?! And the better seats are also 125 or so for anyone to reserve?!? Awesome! This wasn't at all as expensive as I thought. I was on the same continent I would've bought the tickets in a flash!
That's a great point, not to unlock content already on the disc... It would simply feel like cheating! You purchase something and can't use it unless you pay more?
Extra stages would be great, I sincerely hope they go well beyond and make real new content, like Red dead redemption did with Zombies... Loved that.
@55.Bass_X0 DSiWare is getting the Zelda Four Swords for GBA, to be a working multiplayer. I hope this wont be the only GBA-installment to receive this treatment.
I'm so happy to see all my favorite games said here by so many people The two Metroids, the three Castlevanias, Minish Cap, the two F-Zeros, Pokémon...
But since I already have a library of GBA-games, I wish for something that I haven't played before. The Fire Emblems and Final Fantasies seem good! I wouldn't buy games that I already own (so wouldn't my friends) so my only chance of playing wireless Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire is to get it as a free download
Let me get this straight! I bought the console at launch = before August 11th. Thus, I can download 20 (twenty) chosen titles from the eShop for free when they come available??
If so, this is a motherload of a good news! I'm hoping for SuperStar saga too...
HAhaha, Capcom! They sound like an annoying girlfriend, gets you going and: "I'd be up for it if you really wanted, but it's a no then." "WhAT- I don't even-!"
For everything it made after it's success in 80's, someone has filed patent infringements. It doesn't really matter if they are true or not, but the issue is "how much the suing party will compensate Nintendo".
Many of my friends have tried the 3DS, either my console or another, and the reactions have been pretty consistent.
"Wow... Cool..." then play from a minute to ten and say "it hurts my eyes/head though."
It did it for me too, with SF4. At the beginning I couldn't play longer than 20min straight. But within a day or two, my eyes began to get used to it and now it feels quite normal and I've began to understand more about "what it is that I'm actually looking at".
Looks good, I like the style very much! Although, as Link79 put it, if what is on the trailer is what the studio thinks is the very best highlights of the game, it can be pretty meh.
Japanese work-life is a different world... (I studied that) Throughout the history since agriculture, Japanese have valued their co-workers like family. Of course with capitalism and population growth in the more recent generations have changed the values, but one's company is still a huge deal. Every Japanese company has individual policies of for example how to address a superior, how to be clothed, how many thank yous is enough and how many steps you take from the door before making eye contact... And it's a huge deal, of course. I can just imagine the hierarchy, positions, stories and situations that span down from these chiefs...
Yes, if Nintendo of Europe is going to lack features for reasons whatsoever, they should compensate the customers. eShop seems promising, and I'd like to see more things in it in the future!
Thanks for a great article! Also, as you look at the thumbnails of the screenshots up there, you can see that every thing has it's own color I could do a thesis about color in Zelda games...
Wii lured so many people into games that the next console must be called Wii U, so that it would seem a continuation rather than a new thing. Wii has such a heavy name with good sides and bad sides to it, that Wii U will just continue the movement. Nintendo's hopes are to fix Wii's downsides to make the Wii-name sound better for this generation and the next.
Nintendo Entertainment system -> Super Nintendo -> Nintendo 64 Gamecube -> ?????? Wii -> Wii U
The whole idea of being casual or hardcore has been created with the last generation of home consoles. The reason we even use these terms is marketing.
Video games have broadened their audience drastically and in order to make it happen, they needed appealing consumer ideas. "Are you a coca cola light or a coca cola zero person? -Oh, I don't like those, I drink original Coke!" If the consumers can identify themselves with the product, they can feel that "this product is made for me". Of course hardcore and casual were there a long time before, but that is just made them easy to grasp.
I don't know what ends it served, but the marketing idea of having hardcore and casual was created for separating players by the products they choose to buy.
And of course the images of these "gamer groups" have not been thoroughly clarified, because the companies wish everyone to see themselves belonging to whatever they are representing.
Just as with CDs and comics, cartridges make a big difference. I can get music and comics online as I wish, but I by far prefer to buy books and CDs. I think it's sort of the same thing, though in a more radical form, as what all the LP spinners are moaning about other medias: you just feel it better.
A The feeling when you walk back from the store a fresh game in your bag... Open the package, insert the media and wait for wonders. B The feeling when you exchange your money for rights to a downloadable software... The download finishes and you may wait for wonders.
Haha, reminds me of the issue in Australia that flat chested chicks can't appear in pornographic content That was considered child pornography -related material, I don't know if they really passed any laws about it.
But that makes you think about the people who relate A-cup boobs with children (or the contents of this game, depicting more than curvy ladies...). I really think they have problems.
@62. Millie The game is most likely not a limited edition but there is supposed to be a limited edition bundle pack, which certainly seems worth preordering! According to http://www.gamepumpkin.net/profiles/?profilekey=1&page=blog&blogid=118 it will only be available in US with 200 000 copies. According to http://www.giantbomb.com/nintendo-3ds/60-117/3ds-ocarina-3d-limited-edition-collectors-bundle/35-489068/ (with an awesome picture!) the bundle has so far been announced only for Europe. But a forum user called letschat6 overheard Gamestop staff saying that OoT3D will be 150 000 copies worldwide ( http://3dsforums.com/nintendo-3ds-3/legend-zelda-ocarina-time-3d-14461/ ), like Millie said. The price announcements are ranging from 250€ to 499$. The contents of the subject of debate range from just a copy of OoT3D to a bundle of special 3DS, OoT3D and Link's Awakening DX. The appearance of the supposed limited edition 3DS is another knot of contradictory information. Some say it will be green, some say it will be silver, but everyone agrees that there shall be a triforce (although the placement of the triforce is supposed to be between the cameras or in the center of the screen).
My research concludes in that people don't really know.
The Wii's lifespan is said to be coming to it's close soon, so I can reflect to the fun I had with it. No lies told, I played 2/3rds of playtime with virtual console titles. Wii was a very flexible platform, in the sense that there were such a variable fleet of games around it. SSBB, Galaxies, Twilight Princess and the Metroid games were my best experiences with Wii games (as you would expect). So, to please me these things are easily achieved for a new console Nintendo could offer.
Another thing I've been thinking, is being too flexible as a platform. The dev's are not pushed to the limits (as they were in the 90's when the Gameboy was 8 bit, and with 20 years of 8 bit code around, the games get stupendously genius). The DS has seen a glimpse of this level of hardware use. But new consoles are harder to grasp and too big to explore for developers. I could say that the gaming industry is like a crowded Café where the waiters run and serve your delicious cakes with spilled coffee and smeared creme. Or, this effect could have reached me because so many developers did half-assed games to jump in for the Wii's money-rodeo.
Bottom line: Pokemon Red and Blue. I've played the game recently, and seen how Game freak had so many ideas they wanted to implement into the game, many of them fresh for it's time. The gameboy was such a limited platform, that they had many ideas limited to simple lines that npc's say, but this gives the game an all important angle of depth which sets it apart from it's descendants. (I have to give a nostalgia warning, but back then, Pokemon did not have the expectations on it and the limits were to be made). As you see pokemon now, it sells like a monkey whose stocks are going down. The hardware is good and powerful, but they make the same game and blend it with safety and consumer expectations. They can't take use of the hardware because the ideas were made for an 8 bit console! And this is what my whole post has been about. You can make an awesome game of rocks and paper if you need to. If you are given the contents of Charlie's chocolate factory with an army of oompaloompas, it's easy to impress the consumers and sell your products, even if the ideas are something you would think up while making the phone call to tell your idea. The cultural impact can now be seen from many games of the recent past, and that is a good measure of real value to be had in new software.
I don't know what to think yet if it is a touch-pad based controlling system, I really like to have a grip on something. Playing a game on the screen while holding a touch pen or fiddling with the fingers... It would not be so much of a new way to play either.
I hope we are going to see something a bit over the top. Maybe the cafe name is a hint to it.
Thanks for the hands on Mr C! I've been lucky enough to try the system in a Nintendo party in Finland, and I agree that this is an awesome console. (Along with the OoT, it seems I'll be getting my 4th copy of the game... ) But there's a thing I haven't been able to find out: does the sound application play mp3s?
Kid_A, have you actually seen it? It's one of the best looking DS games I've played! This game rocks. Many of the new monsters give a "whatta'vem-wut?"-look but after a while it sort of adds to the charm.
People often talk about Mario and Link as revered historical characters (more or less), but they're only 25 years old! About the same age as me! I should consider them more as pals They're just very very popular pals, with people hi-fiving them every place you go...
Castlevania and Phoenix Wright... Thank you DS! Not to mention the hundreds of pokemon hours. But it feels funny to think that DS days are over, since 3DS can play the games and isn't "that" different of a console. And I still use my GBC and GBA SP because some games just play better on those consoles (and you never know when you stumble upon a retro bargain). I believe I won't be parting with my DSi, as I did with DS and lite, since the value drops so much with the 3DS coming. It's more valuable as a spare console than as a thin wad of bucks :j
I think this is work well done. The legendary ones have been on the cover for every gen except the 1st, so they have a big impact on the reception of the games (not that pokemon would need that much 'intorducing'). I really love how the games' all-around atmosphere has been influenced by the legendary duos and the covers (very much like music albums!). It would be silly to imagine G/S without the majestic birds or R/S without the South-American indian -stylish monsters. D/P are the grey sheep in this flock, I think, but hey were well received too. It's great to see how the actual game consoles have their images also strongly associated with the legendary pokemon included in their games. To me, Kyogre and Groudon are the ambassors of GBA and so on... Man, I'd love to ramble about this subject for hours!
Sadly, my release game of choice seems to be pokemon b/w... It's this or Layton, but Pokemon is released too and I am not made of money... Not that I wouldn't be happy with 3DS and pokemon b/w in my hands
Watching the E3 stream sitting on the floor eating tuna, red cheeks and yelling "oh, it's the- YEAH!" every now and then. It was cool. Or playing the Metroid Other M omega(?)metroid boss in the end, and couldn't nail the power bomb thing. I died like 4 times and accidentally switched to Quit instead of continue, and I had to take all the stuff before it again. I shouted something out of frustration, can't remember what but my flatmates came to check if I'm allright : D
I'm gonna catch 'em all! The awesome releases of course, including both 3DS and B/W. Just don't know yet which one! :7 Maybe white because of Zekrom or black just because of being black...
It'll get kinky for me if the european release is later than march since I know japanese I've been on the edge of importing this game, but I've been waiting for the european so I can buy it together with my friends. But I'm also going for an exchange in Japan in the end of march, so I might have to wait and import the european?! But I bet the european release can also be found somewhere on the islands, or I'll just buy the japanese one : P
And thirdly! I'm verrrry positive the third game won't be called Gray there's just no way, it sounds so dull. I'd go for Ash or Marble instead.
Me and my friends have had a sort of bittersweet tradition with Mario Party series. We have enjoyed almost everyone of them, except the darn 8! It just blows and hard. It's the only Mario Party I've seen players get the "dead-eyes"-look, you know what I mean. I just might get this, because it's the only one I've never tried
If I TRY to see point of this product, it's aimed for new gamers the Wii has engaged. Some people who have just heard of Mario and played perhaps galaxies or NSMBWii, may get to know a bit more about the history of the games. The so-so amount of information in the package is so that the new players won't get overwhelmed and can make their own history with Mario.
But ideals aside, for more established players this box is pretty much a 30$ All-Stars, which on the other hand is an awesome game. The package just doesn't do what the title let's us expect.

Re: Feature: The Future of Nintendo Gaming - 2D or Not 2D?
As long as people like to read and write (->draw and view) material on paper and other such medias (including screens) 2-dimensional gaming will have advantages that impossible in 3-dimensional gaming.
(Means to say pretty much that as long as people are still humans, there will be 2D-games)
Information is easy and fast to recognize and set up in two dimensional space. 3D makes our brains go on another gear which is more hectic and intuitive, and doesn't as much space for the individual's interpretation. (Similar to as when color is added to a picture, it will take people a lot more time to figure out the outlines and remember what it is that they saw.
Re: Iwata: Wii Successor to "Offer New Ways to Play In the Home"
I don't know what to think yet if it is a touch-pad based controlling system, I really like to have a grip on something. Playing a game on the screen while holding a touch pen or fiddling with the fingers... It would not be so much of a new way to play either.
I hope we are going to see something a bit over the top. Maybe the cafe name is a hint to it.
Re: Iwata: Ocarina of Time 3D "Crammed with New Content"
Sidequests! Enhanced and expanded areas! Collectibles like the figurines in the Minish cap (=more masks??)!
Re: Hands On: Nintendo 3DS
Thanks for the hands on Mr C!
I've been lucky enough to try the system in a Nintendo party in Finland, and I agree that this is an awesome console. (Along with the OoT, it seems I'll be getting my 4th copy of the game... )
But there's a thing I haven't been able to find out: does the sound application play mp3s?
Re: Review: Pokémon Black and White (DS)
Kid_A, have you actually seen it? It's one of the best looking DS games I've played!
This game rocks. Many of the new monsters give a "whatta'vem-wut?"-look but after a while it sort of adds to the charm.
Re: Pokemon Director Talks Translations, Names and 3DS Ideas
I'd love to be working on a Finnish language localisation...
Re: Review: S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team (Virtual Console / NES)
The cover is too RAD!!
Re: My Little Baby
that's damn scary! Who... No!
Re: Review: Pucca's Kisses Game (WiiWare)
These are the most positive comments I've seen for a game that gets 6
Re: Europe's 3DS Launch Line-Up According to Gamestation
So bad, it's gonna be Pokemon Black for me :j
Re: First Impressions: 3DS Operating System and Built-In Software
Woooooooow, I'm SO hoping to get upgrades for AR cards and maybe a collectible card game around it...
Re: Will We See a Zelda 25th Anniversary Collection this Year?
I never thought of it this way...
People often talk about Mario and Link as revered historical characters (more or less), but they're only 25 years old! About the same age as me! I should consider them more as pals
They're just very very popular pals, with people hi-fiving them every place you go...
Re: Talking Point: Is the DS Dead at Retail?
Castlevania and Phoenix Wright... Thank you DS! Not to mention the hundreds of pokemon hours.
But it feels funny to think that DS days are over, since 3DS can play the games and isn't "that" different of a console. And I still use my GBC and GBA SP because some games just play better on those consoles (and you never know when you stumble upon a retro bargain).
I believe I won't be parting with my DSi, as I did with DS and lite, since the value drops so much with the 3DS coming. It's more valuable as a spare console than as a thin wad of bucks :j
Re: Pokemon Designer Explains New Legendary Monsters
Re: Fighters can be Voyeurs too in Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition
Sadly, my release game of choice seems to be pokemon b/w... It's this or Layton, but Pokemon is released too and I am not made of money...
Not that I wouldn't be happy with 3DS and pokemon b/w in my hands
Re: Talking Point: Your Nintendo Moment of 2010
Watching the E3 stream sitting on the floor eating tuna, red cheeks and yelling "oh, it's the- YEAH!" every now and then.
Re: Next March, North American Pokémon Fans Can Catch 'Em All in Black & White
Re: Review: Mario Party 2 (Virtual Console / Nintendo 64)
Me and my friends have had a sort of bittersweet tradition with Mario Party series. We have enjoyed almost everyone of them, except the darn 8! It just blows and hard. It's the only Mario Party I've seen players get the "dead-eyes"-look, you know what I mean. I just might get this, because it's the only one I've never tried
Re: Nintendo's 3DS Preview Events Scheduled for 19th January
@JumpMad good ol' Reggie spirit
Re: Review: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition (Wii)
If I TRY to see point of this product, it's aimed for new gamers the Wii has engaged. Some people who have just heard of Mario and played perhaps galaxies or NSMBWii, may get to know a bit more about the history of the games. The so-so amount of information in the package is so that the new players won't get overwhelmed and can make their own history with Mario.
But ideals aside, for more established players this box is pretty much a 30$ All-Stars, which on the other hand is an awesome game. The package just doesn't do what the title let's us expect.
