It's 20 years ago today since the Super Nintendo saw official release in North America, and over the following years it amassed a truly incredible library of games still thought of today as some of the finest ever.
But what really was the top dog on Nintendo's 16-bit wonder machine? Did the 96 levels of Super Mario World do it for you? Are you wowed by the speed of F-Zero to this very day, or does one of the console's many phenomenal RPGs still hold top spot in the chart of your heart?
You've read what we consider to be the 10 greatest Super Nintendo games, and now we want to know what you think's the best and why. We've also set up a poll on the Nintendo Life Facebook page to see which game comes out on top: be sure to stop over there and add your vote.

I think we all know it's Chrono Trigger.
Super Metroid
Donkey Kong Country! No discussion!!!
Secret of Mana!!!
Terranigma or Super Mario RPG for me.
Terranigma
Edit: And most definitely NOT Chrono Trigger. Not even close.
Super Mario World did it well enough for me.
Chrono Trigger. Followed by Final Fantasy V and Super Metroid.
Super Metroid... it´s one of the greatest videogames ever! On various Lists it holds the crown of all videogame systems...
Looking at the Facebook poll, I'd say Super Mario World will win.
I DONT know. It's a tie between Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong Country.
Super Metroid- The most cinematic, genius adventure known to man. You could break this game down inot every gameing aspect and even to this day in 2011 super metroid stands tall maybe even above the AAA titles we know today.
Super Mario World- If not the best, definitely one of the best in the entire franchise. Just like Super Metroid, World is an epic from start to finish. A fair difficulty, great music, pure fun just like the Metroid interation. There's nothing wrong with this game.
Donkey Kong Country- You'd never think back in 1994 that a Donkey Kong game could stand above games like sonic and Mario. But that skeptism became a reality. Rare had lifted off, and made DK one my favorite video game characters of all time. Oh and Diddy is cool too.
Sooo... Super Metroid!
NES- Mega Man 2
SNES- Super Metroid
N64- Super Mario 64
GCN- Animal Crossing
Wii- Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario World 2 and Super Metroid are tied as my favorites. Then followed by Super Mario World and DKC.
Tough choice but I'll say SMW2: Yoshi's Island.
Of the few SNES Remakes I have played I'd have to say Chrono Trigger. The Super Mario World, then maybe Final Fantasy IV (lll).
I'll be the first to say: Super Mario Kart!
Final Fantasy III(VI) or Chrono Trigger.
I think is a draw betwen Super Mario World - Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
Dude. Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World!!!!
All the old NES games AND unreleased Super Mario Bros 2 aka "The Lost Levels" all with 16-bit graphics AND Super Mario World included in one single cart!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
no contest.
Final Fantasy VI... story, gameplay, controls, EVERYTHING about this game is flawless. Not only the best game on SNES, but THE BEST GAME EVER IN HISTORY IN EVERY CONSOLE.
This is strange for me to say, since I played it for the first time on PlayStation. But, since it was a port of a Super Nintendo game, I have to go with Final Fantasy V as the best Super NES game ever! A game so superb, I had to wait 7 years after it's release to play it. And it was worth the wait, even despite lag time on the PS version.
Honorable mention to FF IV & VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Castlevania IV, Contra II: The Alien Wars, Batman Returns, TLoZ: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Mega Man X, Super Mario RPG, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, Super Empire Strikes Back, Donkey Kong Country, Super Punch-Out, Super Mario All-Stars, and Street Fighter II Turbo. Lot of honorable mentions, but I think the SNES had the highest average quality of games of any system ever! In retrospect, my favorite time to be a video gamer.
ALTTP. nuff said.
any game that got a good review (now a days games seem overrated)
... Earthbound.
Super Mario World! I love that game. Nintendo should put the cape in more games.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
Super Metroid = The Best
Chrono Trigger or Donkey Kong Country. Super Mario World will probably win though.
Chrono Trigger.
Super Mario World or Super Metroid. Can't decide.
Super Mario World of course! No wait... Zelda: ALttP! Argh I mean, Super Metroid... or FFVI? Chrono Trigger... No way to decide ;___;
F-Zero hands down.
This is basically an impossible question because I believe the Super Nintendo has the best library of games out there. =)
If I have to pick one game, it's Super Metroid. Earthbound is a very close second. And every other game mentioned here has to be in the discussion.
Terranigma, closely followed by Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Super Metroid.
I haven't played Chrono Trigger nor FF VI on SNES, because it never got released over here, but love the DS remake of CT and FF VI on VC.
The one i have sucked out most gaming hours from is Tetris (& Dr Mario) multiplayer.
But thats not really a snes signature game, so i'd say Castlevania IV. Or the SMW's. Or the DKC games. Pure platform perfection.
Super Mario World.
my favorite game ever, so this was an easy choice for me!
.......................................................
...
..........
..............
................................................Super Metroid
indeed it would have to be Super Metroid.
SUPER METROID!!!!
Honestly? With the amount of fun I've had playing it (not to mention how many times i've played it altogether D: ), SMRPG is probably at the top of my list. It'd be damn hard to choose between it, SMW (for sheer Mario-platforming goodness) and Tetris Attack (homg multiplayer is the best IMO; only problem is that you need someone around who knows how to play the game)...
there's just too many great SNES games to choose from D: D: D:
I have a TON of favorites I can't decide: Super Mario All-Stars, EarthBound, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III/VI, Live-A-Live (do imports count?), Ardy Lightfoot, to name a few.
This is truly hard, and since everyone above already mentioned my favorites, I'm gonna go a little more picky: Act Raiser http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUlbnc11_w
But anything from Konami and Capcom will do. No one mentioning Contra III, Turtles IV, Axelay, Demons Crest, Super Ghouls'n'Ghosts and so on... great times to be a gamer, eh?
I would also like to mention one that Super Play focused but never arrrived in the west: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsDnIe_ypSc (Get on DS!)
Super Castlevania IV is the shining gem of my SNES collection
Difficult question not counting the remakes on other systems. I love Donald in Maui Mallard, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose!, Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World. I also played the crap out of Killer Instinct and Super Mario Kart which I think I played the most.
So which one to choose? I think I go for Super Mario Kart.
And I still have loads of SNES games that I have but still need to play (Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3, Super Punch-Out, Super Mario All-Stars, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana etc. etc.). So this could change.
BEST SNES GAME EVER MADE

Final Fantasy III, Link to the Past, Secret of Mana
My nostalgia tells me Megaman X, but common sense tells me Super Mario World. So I'm going to say Super Mario World.
Chrono Trigger, Yoshi's Island, and Donkey Kong Country 2.
1) A Link to the Past
2) Super Mario World
3) Mega Man 7
4) Castlevania IV
5) Chrono Trigger
6) Super Mario Kart
7) Mega Man X
8) Sim City
9) Secret of Mana
10) Turtles in Time
Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Oh man so many to choose from! D:
This is one of the most difficult questions I've been asked...
Man it's really hard to choose, but I think for me it's either Super Mario World, Megaman X, or Super Metroid. I just can't pick..
This is one of life's hardest questions. For me it is between, A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, and the one no one expected, E.V.O. The Search for Eden.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, followed by Yoshi's Island.
Uhm..I'll just say top 5:
1. Earthbound
2. Super Mario World
3. Super Metroid
4. Starfox
5. A Link to the Past
Donkey kong country nuff said
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
@James
@20 - I agree!
Super Metroid of course.
Earthbound or Super Mario World
Super Metroid of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Earthbound
Well, A Link to the Past is the best video game of all time....sooooo ^^
My parents didn't buy me much games, but if I had to choose then let me put myself into my younger self's shoes and go way back to the year 1993 and say Super Mario World, as I put in countless hours into that game.
I have no idea why everyone is into Chrono Trigger so much. It takes a standard JRPG experience and gives it weird characters and real time combat. Does this make it exceptional? IMO it was quite boring.
Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound, Super Metroid, Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island.
@James - You do know you didn't play that on Snes, right?
Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart.
@ZachKaplan
To this day.
That game can still make me laugh!
Truly a fun classic.
super metroid hands down.
Well, A Link to the Past is the best video game of all time....sooooo ^^
My top 10 SNES games are Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Super Metroid, EarthBound, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Secret of Mana and Donkey Kong Country.
No love for Kirby's Dreamland 3?
That's my favorite <s>SNES</s> game ever...
Super probotector, awesome game!!!
1) Super Castlevania IV
2) Super Metroid
3) Zelda: A Link to the Past
Obviously Mario is missing is the very best.
It's a three-way tie between Super Metroid, A Link to the Past and Super Mario World.
Between Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, and Super Mario World for me. It changes pretty much daily.
My favorite game is either Super Mario World OR Kirby Super Star because Super Mario World is Yoshi's first game. And as for Kirby Super Star in some parts is 32-bit (i.e Intro how Kirby rides on his Warp Star.) So yea the SNES had and has the best graphics in that time and today. Happy Birthday SNES!
how can anybody pick just one game out of so much awsomeness. street fighter 2 turbo killed off most of my spare time when i first had it though.
To many good games for the SNES to name 1 single BEST game for the system i reckon it would be more accurate to have the top spot shared between 10 titles:
Super Mario World + Super Mario All-Stars (on the one CART version)
Super Metroid
Super Mario RPG
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Donkey Kong Country 2
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Kart
Super Castlevania IV
Chrono Trigger
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
plus many others i love just outside of the 10 are Pilotwings, Equinox: Solstice II, Actraiser, F-Zero, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Contra III, Axelay, etc
DKC2
DKC3
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Those games are all pretty much perfect in their own way. I can't pick one over another.
it's a hard tie for me between Chrono Trigger and Link to the Past.
Final Fight 3
@Mickeymac
Yeah, basically.
Super Mario World is the best NES game ever.
Terranigma, for me the best 32 bit game on 16 bit snes system
Super Mario Allstars + Super Mario World.
Too.. many.. games to choose from... head going to explode!!!
91. pizzacore 19 Aug 2011, 22:38 BST
Super Mario World is the best NES game ever.
Never played the NES version?
Super Mario World
@Its-Mii-Will
If we're allowed to chose All-Stars + Super Mario World then that would obviously be my choice.
Yoshi's Island and Street Fighter II Turbo are also up there.
In my personal experience, you can't pick one game hands down above all the others. You CAN, however, pick your favorites of genres.
Action/Adventure - A Link to the Past
Action Platformer - Super Metroid
Platformer - Kirby Super Star
RPG - Chrono Trigger (before the Chrono Cross/Radical Dreamer bollocks)
Sports - F-Zero
Fighting - Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
Action - Super Castlevania IV
Arcade - Turtles in Time
Shooter - AxeLay
Simulation - ActRaiser
Puzzle - Tetris Attack
Educational - Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (teaches you the value of bundles)
Earthbound
Super Mario World for me. It's platforming perfection. My other favorites are Super Mario RPG, Super Castlevania IV and Chrono Trigger. The SNES had such a fantastic library.
What are you guys saying? It's all a blur! The obvious answer to the question is Yoshi's Island!
it's tough between - SimCity (SNES version still the best, mostly due to gifts and the sublime gifts of Soyo Oka), SMW2 (the "complete package" platformer), and EarthBound (far and away the finest RPG ever made, with possibly the finest soundtrack of any videogame, bar none)
er, and Super Metroid really can't be held down, either
guys, it definitely is NOT Super Mario World. It isn't as good as SMB3. or SMW2. or SMB1. or SM64.
edit: nostalgia-colored glasses, anyone?
SUPER METROID! don't you guys say ANYTHING else compared to the pure awesomeness of this game
I'm shocked at how so few people are mentioning Legend of Zelda Link to the Past.
1: Super Metroid
2: Chrono Trigger
3: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
4: Contra 3
5: Cybernator
In THAT precise order!
Earthbound is by far my favorite game. Then A Link to the Past.
Earthbound. It keels Chrono Trigger. I played it, but it never really hooked me much. Willing to give it another go but I'm not head over heels about the game. Earthbound- that's a master piece imho.
Okay, I guess I'll list my own personal Top 10:
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Final Fantasy III
3. Earthbound
4. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
5. Super Metroid
6. Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
7. Super Castlevania IV
8. Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
9. Contra III
10. Mega Man X
EDIT: Darn, I forgot to add Soul Blazer onto that list. Axelay is another great one that deserves an honorable mention. So many great games that made the Super NES such a fantastic console.
Out of the ones I played:
SMW
Starfox
Yoshi's Island
Donkey Kong Country 3
@Flameking1087 Put SMW 2 and 3 in it and THEN it's no contest.
For me it was absolutely FFIV. I don't care if you don't agree with me. So many memories with this game and still remains my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time. I <3 Kain if you couldn't tell.
There's no way I could pick one... or even rank them, but the games that caused the most entertainment for me (and friends) would have been:
Super Mario World, Contra/Probotector III, Castlevania IV, Street Fighter 2 and most definitely The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Honourable mention is Turtles in Time. That was a pretty damn good attempt at an arcade port for its time.
1A: Chrono Trigger
1B: Earthbound
Just kidding. A Link to the Past is obviously the best Super NES game, followed by Super Mario World and Super Metroid.
Mario World is the best Snes game, then F-zero for the music and Donkey Kong Country but was a hard game. Mario all Stars too, my choice is not in order. Mario World wins it for me though.
Bebe's Kids
anything except mario is missing. which means super metroid.
A tough choice, but I would have to say that Super Metroid is the best game on the best system ever.
Oh man.... Correct me if I am wrong, but does no one have any love for Blackthorne? That was my favorite SNES game. So much so that I also bought the Gameboy Advance port. Man I loved that game.
i remember renting a lot of games in the snes era...
now i dont even check the rental area.
its all about buying the games. used copy or ebay make them so cheap that renting seems useless. for a little more, you own the game.
it sure have changed a lot...
donkey kong country had THE best graphics i loved diddy kong racing yoshis island world 2 super mario world 2 and pac man world
My personal Top 10 favorite SNES games are:
10. Super Mario World
9. Super Ghouls'n Ghosts
8. Illusion of Gaia
7. Plok
6. Secret of Mana
5. Arcana
4. Equinox: Solstice II
3. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
2. SoulBlazer
1. The Lost Vikings
To each their own
Augh, make me choose between children instead! ...If I had any kids of course.
Hrum, I'd have to say Star Fox 3rd, Turtles in Time 2nd, and Super Mario RPG 1st because it's FREAKING AMAZING.
Pizza time!
Oh I forgot Dragon Quest V is a master piece.
DOOM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK in all seriousness I'm going to have to say Donkey Kong Country then Yoshi's Island...
I'm torn between Mega Man X1 and Super Metroid
homealone2, mortal kombat1&2, the mask, supermarioworld plus mario allstars,scooby-doo,looneytunes,animanics, tinytoons.
Hands down Super Metroid
I went up and read a lot of the other posts and it looks like a tie between Super Metroid and Donkey Kong Country. Kind of odd not seeing many Link to the Past lovers.
KILLER INSTINCT. Seriously it took me years to beat that game on full hard difficulty with every characters but now I feel satisfied.
It's a tough choice but Street Fighter II Turbo may be my most played game of all time and I still enjoy it as much today as I did when it first released so that gets my vote. Super Mario World is a very close second, 2D platforming perfection.
Super Mario World hands down. That was my childhood. And if any games are nostalgia-tinted it's Super Mario 64. I missed the N64 completely so I played it on VC and after playing Sunshine and Galaxy first I wasn't impressed.
Honorable Mentions: Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy III and Super Metroid.
Yoshi's Island!
Tetris Attack followed by Super Mario Kart. Those were the best games I played on my SNES (as for later: A Link to the Past is the best)
@wolfenstein83 my god, i remember Shaq Fu. it was impossible!
Super Metroid and Zelda: Link to the Past that's it )
Utopia: Creation of a Nation.....anyone?
I'm going outside of the box and picking TMNT: Turtles in Time.
I'm not as impressed as most people about any of the games commonly picked as the best of the SNES, and I have tried many of them. In my opinion, Sonic 3 & Knuckles beats them all.
Haven't played all games that have been mentioned. But the games I enjoyed the most are:
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (epic adventure)
Super Mario World (both single and multiplayer)
Super Mario Kart (multiplayer ofc)
SNES was my favourite console, but by that time my english was awful. So Zelda became better and better as I aged
A Link to the Past and Mully: The Movie - The Game.
Oh boy. Well, Mega Man X, Final Fight 2, SMW, Turtles in Time and Super Street Fighter would be my top 5.
Zelda aLttP
Super Metroid
Castlevania IV
My favourite game series started to be my favourites <3
SUPER MARIO WORLD best game ever, still play it from time to time love that game...
It's gotta be between Super Mario World and Zelda ALTTP, such a tough call though, they were two of the very best in their respective series.
Although reading these comments you realise just how many classics the SNES had. It truly was a golden age in gaming.
Long live 2D games!
actually only played Super Mario World so that one
My brain has imploded trying to figure out which is my favourite SNES game. I give up.
Favourite eh? Can´t really say just one:
Donkey Kong Country 2
Super Mario World
Yoshi´s Island
Super Mario World.
Link to the Past is a close second, but that didn't have the same fun factor or replay value as Mario World did.
It'll probably always be Super Mario World for me, probably until I finally finish LoZ: A Link to the Past
Chrono Trigger!
It excells in storytelling, graphics, music, characters and gameplay. It doesn't have an overly complicated battle system, yet manages to remain deep and add some innovations much needed at the time. The most notable one is how battles play out directly on the field, instead of those annoying random battles.
Chrono Trigger is absolutely unforgettable in any possible way.
Chrono Trigger or super mario world
Uhh uhh uhh.... A Link to the Past! No, Super Metroid! No, Megaman X! no wait, EarthBound! or Mario RPG! Or Final Fantasy 6! Or Chrono Trigger! Oh wait, Kirby Super Star! Also Yoshi's Island!!
Head explodes
Cant we just say thet the SNES is the BEST console with the BEST games overall ? Its much much easier. But my picks would look like this: ... i simply cant decide ! Terranigma, SoM, MMX, SMW...this system is so packed with awesome games, you simply cant pick "THE best"
I'll give my favourite ten, in no particular order...
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Castlevania IV
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario Kart
Yoshi's Island
Starwing
Final Fantasy VI
Super Mario RPG
For me it's Earthbound or StarFox, or Super Metroid.
Has to be Yoshi's Island, no doubt in my mind.
Thomas's top ten really describes my favorites, but if I had to pick one, it would be Super Mario World.
Terranigma
Seiken Densetsu 3
Yoshi's Island
Super Metroid
Mario Paint...fah shizzle!
Killer Instinct
SNES and the NES have the best libraries of all time which makes it harder to just go with game. Maybe it would be more fair to go with a "best game in each genre"? With that said and to answer the question... Final Fantasy III (VI) is the one for me.
Chrono trigger...but with close competitors
Link to the Past... but it's a bloody hard choice really...
Super Mario World.
Favourite game from my kidhood, even though I played it on the GBA.
Yoshi's Island is my favorite game, period.
Chrono Trigger is my all time favorite game although Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie, R-Type 3, and Hagane were some of the best made for the SNES BESIDES Castlevania, Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.
Whats with all the mario/ donkey kong? they're good but not breaking much new ground.
For me LInk to the past was probably best then tons of other weird stuff.
Equinox, Alien 3, Tetris attack, Cybernator, all 3 star wars platformers, Starfox, f-zero, Desert Strike, Legend of Mystical Ninja, Smash TV, Flashback, super EDF, Stunt Race FX.... so many that are all 'bests' in their own right. We all know the Nintendo stuff is best, why re-hash those lists?
Why can't Ms. Pac-Man produce her own?
That's a tough choice, as the SNES had so many great games. I remember I had a blast with the Donkey Kong Country trilogy when I was a kid, and Super Mario RPG was every bit as unforgettable, if not moreso. However, my vote has to go with Final Fantasy III (VI), because its story is just so ingeniously told, and the cinematics are stunning and spectacular.
Oh boy, Yoshi's Island or Donkey Kong Country 3: Diddy's Kong Quest. There both awesome games! I can't decide! I'll get back to that, maybe
UPDATE
Ok, I have decided that Yoshi's Island is my favorite SNES game.
Agreed @Sakisa
For the SNES? I would have to say the side-scrolling action RPG with the most non-traditional plot I've ever played: Demon's Crest. Multiple endings (based on what items you've found), a second quest and.... best of all.... You're a gargoyle who embarks on his quest because he wants to become the ultimate demon.
Super Metroid without a doubt. Not only is it my favorite SNES game of all time but it's also consecutively my favorite game of all time.
donkey kong country
DKC 2.
@Henmii: I gotta say, DKC2 is veeeeery close to the top of my 'favorite SNES platformers' list. :3
I'm surprised no one mentioned Return of Double Dragon.
Not my favorite SNES but in my top ten.
Not in order, but here are my favs.
A Link to the Past
Turtles in Time
Contra III
Super Mario RPG
Chrono Trigger
Return of Double Dragon
Mega Man X
Super Metroid
Donkey Kong Country 2
Final Fantasy IV
Earthbound.
SMW2: Yoshi's Island obviously.
Which ever one <Insert your name here> liked most
"SMW2: Yoshi's Island obviously and if you don't like it then that's fine"
I said DKC 2, but Yoshi's island is certainly up there. I think for me it's a tie between DKC 2 and Yoshi's island!
what happened to my post
Super Mario World!
A Link To The Past.
Starfox!
Earthbound holds a special place in my heart; I'd have to go with that.
A Link to the Past
toss up between Link to the Past and Super Metroid
I gotta say Super Mario RPG.
wow is not easy to say because snes has huge awesome games, for me it would be donkey kong country, megaman x, contra 3, zelda link to the past, super mario world, earth worm jim damn is just too dificult for me haha I love all this games
It was Super Mario world for me!
You all forgot about ACTRAISER!!!
really difficult.. but if i have too choose just one i might say final fantasy 3 (6) if i can stick with two i will also add the legend of zelda: a link to the past
None of the ones pictured.
Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid is the only contest here.
Super Metroid & Rockman X
I forgot TMNT IV - Turtles in Time. Loved that one in multiplayer
Donkey Kong Country 2
Over 200 posts with far many awesome games mentioned! SNES FTW!
In the end is all bout tastes, cause the grate games can´t be messure, they are art!!
but we all know Yoshi´s Island is the best...
Final Fantasy VI.
YOUR MAKING US CHOOSE ONE!!!!!
Chrono Trigger
My favorites are Terranigma, Zelda A Link to the Past and Super Metroid.
I have so many memories with my friends and family playing Super Mario World, that game is tops for me.
A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
Chrono Trigger
And many Others !
It´s almost impossible to choose a winner !!!
I have to go with Earthbound. There's only been two RPGs that I've been able to play through over and over, Earthbound and FFVII.
I never owned a SNES. I had an NES from the time it came out till I got my N64 in 2000. However, I think the quality of games for the SNES are fantastic and I've been able to play all of the classics on the Wii. I'd say either Super Mario World or Mega Man X are my favorite games for the SNES.
Well I have never own a Snes only played snes games at friends (own a Mega-drive/Genesis at that time) so I have to say: Super mario World
Well, it's pretty hard to beat SMW+AllStars on the same cart (ditto on the NES for Super Mario Bros / DuckHunt), but I gotta say the two greatest SNES games of all time are Yoshi's Island and Super Mario RPG!
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
I can only say that because I loved every single moment of that game and none of it was bad for me. Most other SNES games I can say I didn't enjoy certain aspects as much as others.
But for me, DKC2 is the PERFECT SNES game
Either Kirby Super Star, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2.
Everyone is talking about a link to the past so I might try that out.
@OverlordMao I only played the gameboy advance version of DKC2 but it sill was awesome.
Wow, me thinking I may have to dust off the Wii and VC a few games from the SNES era that I missed!
EDIT Waves fist at Nintendo - I better be able to move my VC games from Wii straight over to WiiU
Ogre Battle
Either Super Metroid or Demon's Crest.
For me, it's tough to decide. Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and A Link to the Past are all ridiculously good games.
P.S. Mario is Missing, Mario's Time Machine, and the Mario's Early Years games are in the image, but Super Metroid and A Link to the Past aren't?! For shame.
Super Mario World is definitely overrated.
Super Metroid is great.
Donkey Kong Country 2 is Masterpiece.
Ah...given that Metroid is in my name, you probably know what I'm gonna say.
...but I'll say it anyways. SUPAH METROID!!!
Starwing every time, closely followed by Super Mario World.
No doubt Final Fantasy III (6).
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country
There's just too many, so I'm just gonna put together a list of my own and just be loved/hated for it, lol, here goes:
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Lufia and the Fortress of Doom
3. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
4. Breath of Fire
5. Breath of Fire II
6. Final Fantasy IV
7. Final Fantasy VI
8. Earthbound
9. TMNT IV
10. F-Zero
11. Soulblazer
12. Illusion of Gaia
13. Donkey Kong Country
14. Donkey Kong Country 2
15. Donkey Kong Country 3
16. Star Fox
17. LoZ:LttP
18. SMRPG
19. Super Double Dragon
20. SMA + World (though I didn't play "this" particular one, but it's not rocket science to know it's better than just SMA)
21. Super Mario World
22. Yoshi's Island
23. Shadowrun
24. Kirby Super Star
25. Super Metroid
26. Act Raiser
27. Act Raiser 2
28. Mega Man X
29. Mega Man X2
30. Mega Man X3
31. Contra III
32. Super Mario Kart
...and I'm tired...
Almost impossible to answer, however Super Metroid remains the Super Nintendo game that had the greatest impact on me, everything about it is perfect, it's music, it's atmosphere, it's controls, it's size, it's secrets...etc etc etc. It's also the greatest game ever made, on any system, in my opinion...
A link to the Past comes second, closely followed by Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Castlevania IV...
Earthbound, duh.
Super Mario RPG LOTSS hands down.
There are lots of Super Nintendo games that i've yet to experience. Yes, even on the Wii's VC.
I'm going with Contra III for now because this was the most intense solo and co-op game i played in that era. The new capabilities in graphics and sounds made this game really shine and a bit of an evolution over its predecessors. From the first mid-level bosses to that last epic fight this game is a pure rollercoaster ride and especially the rocket-section and the first end of level boss will forever be engrained in the minds of me and my old schoolmate (R.I.P. fella, R.I.P.).
But since it is too hard for many people the best SNES game for everyone is Super Mario World imo. So many ways to play the game, such amazing level and character designs, so many secrets to uncover ... And always a great co-op time for sure.
There's only one right answer... ALL OF THEM!!!!11 xD Muahahahahahaaaaaa!
