Re: Talking Point: Achievements, Trophies and Wii U

MegaAdam

Achievements are possibly the worst thing to happen to video games. Playing to check off a list of achievements detracts from playing for fun, and turns playing games into a chore.

That said, it would be foolish for Nintendo to not include them. They're here to stay, and their existence will help increase third-party game sales.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES Pulled from Virtual Console

MegaAdam

Gah! This is the problem with digital formats. There's no reason that
A) these games shouldn't stay available until at least the transition to a new console and
B) Nintendo and Konami couldn't give us a heads-up before it disappears.

The advantage to physical games is that even when they go out of print, you can still find a copy on the secondary market.

Re: Icon Games: "Nintendo's Policies Put Jobs at Risk"

MegaAdam

There are plenty of comments here about how Nintendo set the conditions, and if indie developers don't like the deal, they shouldn't sign up for it.

And that's fine.

But seeing as how we are commenting on a site dedicated to Nintendo's downloadable services, I would think we would all want Nintendo to do well in the digital space. Having unfair and unprofitable conditions on their digital stores drives away 3rd party and indie developers, and that's bad for Nintendo overall.

Re: Icon Games Breaks WiiWare Sales Figures Silence

RichIconNew: Thanks for posting here constructively, and thanks for the insight.

I originally thought Nintendo's thresholds were fair, but I have come to realize that the massive install base of the Wii isn't buying very much WiiWare. Not having a storage solution for years, an unimpressive and slow store, unrealistic pricing, and lack of promotion have really hampered WiiWare's success. And punishing developers by not paying them at all unless they meet a sales threshold is exceedingly harsh. I think Nintendo should pay out after a game has been available for a year, even if the sales threshold isn't met.

I don't know if their policies have changed at all for the 3DS eShop, but it certainly seems that overall the eShop is doing much better business. Hopefully things continue to improve with the Wii U.

Re: Feature: Remembering the GameCube

The GameCube controller had the best ergonomics ever. The button layout could have been better, but you can't beat the grip. Just picking it up, it melds with your hands. I was disappointed when Nintendo didn't keep making GCN controllers for the Wii.

Re: R-Type Being Removed from Virtual Console

MegaAdam

This is what is wrong with virtual goods. If there was an old cartridge/disc game I wanted to play and the company went under, I could still go hunt it down somewhere. Nowadays, games are just pulled off of the service to vanish into the ether forever!

I appreciate the notice and I'll probably try to download this R-Type in the next day or two. I'll still pissed about the Magic Obelisk, though. What was that about?

Re: Review: Avenging Spirit (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy)

MegaAdam

This is an excellent VC game, in the sense that it's quite a novel and polished title I'd never heard of before. I enjoyed playing through it.

I saw on a couple of sites there are button combos to press on the title screen to get to an "expert mode," but I can't get it to work. Has anyone gotten that to work? It says press Up+A+B.

Re: Got an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3?

MegaAdam

I'n not really interested in a dedicated Kinect or Move site. Imagine a website dedicated to Wii releases that use the GameCube controller . . . exciting, right?

I would love for you guys to create a site that focuses on PSN games and/or PSOne Classics. That could go a long way.
