I'm glad Iwata has stated that the estimated Wii U sales targets are deliberately conservative and aren't Nintendo's guess at the 'peak' number of sales. I was beginning to worry.
Ed Boon said there was a story behind not bringing the games to the Virtual Console that he'd love to share one day. He also made the point that the SNES version didn't play as well as its Mega Drive counterpart, as one of the reasons for Mortal Kombat remaining absent from VC.
Personally, I'd like to stick with physical media for as long as possible, especially with the current lack of a backup system if your 3DS dies or gets lost. Regarding the cross-buy side of things, that really is something they need to sort out pronto, but as long as people buy multiple copies of the same game, why would they stop doing it. Maybe unified accounts would solve both issues?
@allav866 But the Wii U's backwards compatibility isn't really an additional cost to Nintendo like the Wii's GC backwards compatibility was. Besides there's a ton of Wii software out there, so it'd still be a huge selling point for new buyers who've been on the fence about upgrading.
If this turns out to be true, which I personally doubt, then I can't imagine it'd be a totally new console or handheld. If it was I'm sure they'd be doing a live stage show presentation, not just the Nintendo Direct style video. Didn't Iwata say we probably wouldn't hear anything about QoL until 2015?
The new Bowser Castle looks incredible and I loved the segment on the live soundtrack. The UK Direct was a tad annoying, those voice overs were really distracting. I think Nintendo seem to of made the right steps in making MK8 appeal to a wider audience though. That tournament feature will get lapped up by hardcore gamers everywhere and that free game promotion is a great incentive for those thinking about picking up a Wii U for Mario Kart, as well as getting current owners to up MK8's first month (or two's) sales globally.
I loved LostWinds but I'm not sure I can be bothered with going through the transfer process again, especially if the save data needs to be backed up and restored.
@sinalefa It seemed to me that the view from above was possibly from a race replay video, as there's also a few views of oncoming of cars. I'm merely speculating though, as it's not 100% clear which parts are in-game footage. There's meant to be another trailer being made soon, so hopefully we'll have more answers then.
@sinalefa When I read the press release I initially thought it would be a birds-eye view racer like Micro Machines. Looking at the trailer is seems to be a behind the car view, although it would be nice to have the option between the two. Maybe a top down view on the GamePad (a la Mario Kart DS second screen but expanded) and the behind the car view on the TV? One can dream I suppose...
@Shiryu The track builder will be in the Wii U release, but it isn't clear whether or not the sharing of tracks will be possible, like it is in the PC version.
Ah, no way, I just purchased Ducktales Remastered about 5 mins ago. Just got in there before the discount ended. I'll definitely be picking up the soundtrack though, I loved the original NES themes.
I never played this one, as soon as RE4 came out I couldn't go back to the tank controls. I might give it a go if I find a cheap enough GC copy though.
I kinda thought a Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle would go without saying. If Nintendo didn't make one they'd certainly be missing a trick, especially after the Mario Kart Wii bundle sold as well as it did.
@TruenoGT Agreed! In all honesty, I'd rather have another entry in the series that plays like Other M than Super Metroid. Don't get me wrong, a new 2D Metroid would be great, but I like that risks were taken with Other M.
It's looking alright, the sound design could do with a bit more work though, those impact noises sound out of place. Looking forward to the next trailer.
I can see why Nintendo opted against including same sex marriage in this game, as it would have be localised by each country/state individually, rather than region in order to avoid potential backlash. Still, it's disappointing it has to be this way in 2014.
For this title it actually makes a bit of sense because of the game's promotional price for the the first couple of weeks after release. It means that someone can actually snare themselves a deal right now, instead of forgetting about the release and having to pay full price sometime later.
Oh man, I'm about 1000 short and to make matters worse my Super Mario 3D World product code is telling me it's already been registered. It hasn't, I literally just scratched it of in a mad panic...
Ah, that skit! Certainly a ND highlight for me last year. I loved the Year of Luigi but all good things must come to an end, especially ones that have an expiry in their name.
I personally don't mind waiting for this as long as the Gamepad is being utilised properly. Deus Ex certainly benefited from having the touch screen implemented and Watch Dogs seems kind of similar to that game. So yeah, if it's going to be worth the wait, then so be it.
