Tribute’s twitter account confirmed today that Flinthook will be hitting the digital storefront on 9th March. Here’s the official summary:
Flinthook is a fast action-platformer with “roguelike” elements. Become space’s greatest pirate with your hookshot, pistol and slowmo powers!
Zip around with your mighty hookshot! Aim freely and toss your giant anchor at golden rings to propel yourself around the levels at high speeds, giving you the agility and swiftness needed to dodge hazards and enemy bullets. Shoot in 360’ through your Blasma Pistol! Take down all sorts of enemies with fresh hot bullets! Look really cool with slow-motion powers! Slow down time to adjust your aim or pull off a tight stunt – do it often, it recharges real quickly and it makes you at least 200% cooler.
Blast through randomly-assembled pirate spaceships! Each level is special, as ships are procedurally built from hundreds of hand-crafted rooms, modified by various variants, filled with extraordinary treasure and populated by random waves of enemies. Hunt down the pirate lords of the Cluster Clan! Feed your compass creature to pinpoint the bosses’ location, then take them down and bring your bounty home. Your rivals are no space chumps, make sure you’re ready for the challenge! Collect rare relics and powerful perk cards! All the treasure you loot builds up your legend – unlock new equippable perks as you level up, buy permanent upgrades in the Black Market, and hoard collectible relics and lore pages! Uncover some mysterious secrets?! I don’t know, are there secrets in this game? O_O

Saw it on the Japanese eShop. Haven't decided if/when I want to pick it up yet but I'll likely give it a go at some point.
Does anyone actually ever read through those game PR descriptions?
Looks promising.
I too recently saw a listing for this game on the Japanese eShop. I like the look of the gameplay in this one. The room at a time flow of the game, clearing enemies and platforming elements reminds me of some of those fun single screen arcade platformers such as SNOW BROS. , TUMBLEPOP, NIGHTMARES IN THE DARK.
Can anyone who has played the game previously on another platform, tell me whether these impressions are actually accurate to the actual game and how it plays?
I have been waiting for this for months! WOOT!
@Lroy you just named some of my favourite arcade shoot-formers(R), however Flinthook doesn't implement the same enemy-throwing mechanics. I have it on Steam, it's a good roguelite shooter with signature grappling-hook controls and superb pixel art. Be warned, it might get repetitive quickly, and gets very difficult to the point of being unfair the more you go on.
I might double dip to play it on the go, but my backlog is already too big (...I have to say that before buying anything)
I love the look of this but I don't have time for all these roguelikes. :/
@RetroGamerAndrew Thanks for the clarification and comments about this game: I think I'll push it back into wishlist then rather than immediate purchase. I wish there were more classic single screen arcade games akin to those we mentioned on Switch. I can only think of MARIO BROS. In the Arcade Archives series on the system so far.
These articles are so much more helpful when the trailer is included. Thanks Mitch!
Fun game, but as stated above, can get repetitive. I think playing on the go, in short bursts, would suit it well though. Much like when The Swindle came to Vita. Much preferred it there, versus my PC.
Do we know when Limited Run is going to be doing their Switch physical games yet? Can't remember reading when that was going to happen.
@Lroy I echo the comments of @RetroGamerAndrew - I’ve enjoyed both Snow Bros and Flinthook, but they play quite differently.
Flinthook is indeed a difficult game, but more than just “arcade” difficult. In the vein of many other rogue-lites, the skill development curve is fairly steep, and some of your runs will be perilously brief. Of course, therein lies the satisfaction one gets from achieving even minor milestones in Flinthook; such increments of progress are hard-won victories.
I might re-buy Flinthook on the Switch for its accessibility. But as Andrew wrote, the difficulty/fairness balance becomes a little questionable after a few levels. Not sure if I’m truly up to facing that again.
@sfb Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query 👍
@Lroy You’re welcome! Actually, your comment inspired me to play a quick bit of Snow Bros 2 just now. Still lots of fun, and far less stressful than Flinthook!
@sfb Ha! Ha! I played through all the levels of SNOW BROS. this past Christmas (credit feeding) on Mame. I may well do the same for SNOW BROS. 2 this year - although what with all the snow in the U.K. at present it might be more apt to play it this weekend, lol!
