Re: Review: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III - Falcom's Famous Series Was Worth The Wait On Switch

Kr96

@JR150 Persona spin offs tend to be self contained and give you enough story details to know what's up so you don't have to play the originals. Trails on the other hand is an on going story told in several games so it's obviously not the best idea to start with the third part, unfortunately rights issues prevent the first two games to get switch ports so the only option for newcomers would be to pick them up on steam

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Hosting Asset Flip Game On Switch, And Fans Aren't Happy

Kr96

@ermzzz I'm with you, imposing scruciating guidelines might stop devs to submit shovelware but at the same time it'll make it more difficult for indies to get approval. You either affect everyone or no one, there's no middleground and complaints wouldn't end anyway. Adding a refund option isn't a solution but would be very welcome in case you aren't satisfied with your purchase, I'd be far more interested in that.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Hosting Asset Flip Game On Switch, And Fans Aren't Happy

Kr96

@nessisonett Unlike the PC market, no console maker would ever allow AO rated games in their platforms so that's a huge leap of logic you're making. There was a japanese game that got taken from the eshop some time ago that had to be patched for adult content before being reuploaded, all VN's released on consoles are censored for the same reason

Re: 3DS Sales See 73% Year-On-Year Decline, No Future Sales Forecast Provided

Kr96

@impurekind After nine years how much more "love" they can give to the system? It's had an excellent run and it's still very worthy with tons of games that won't be anywhere else. It's been some time Nintendo merged its handheld and console divisions in preparation for switch development, it's obvious whenever a new product releases they'll shift interest but that doesn't mean the old system will somehow disappear

Re: Nintendo Earned Almost $2 Billion In Digital Sales This Year, A 72% Yearly Increase

Kr96

This fear of digital games is stupid, sometimes it's impossible to find a physical version of the game you so want or it's available at a ridiculous price. Sometimes sales are just too good to ignore, especially when you're on a tight budget or don't feel like paying full price, maybe you don't care enough to buy a physical copy or the download size is very small and won't eat up too much space on the sd card. There are a million reasons to get digital games and it's ultimately another OPTION, discs and carts won't go away anytime soon.

Re: Feature: Nihon Falcom President On Trails Of Cold Steel III And Bringing The Long-Running JRPG Series To Switch

Kr96

There's a rights issue between Xseed and NISA that prevents the first two games to be ported to Switch as well as past Ys games. Remember Falcom isn't like Atlus or other japanese devs, they're extremely niche to the point it's a miracle they are still around after decades and why they need external devs to do the porting work. Don't doubt Ys IX will come to Switch, courtesy of NISA of course.

Re: Atlus Is Removing Code Of Princess From The 3DS eShop Next Week

Kr96

The most logical explanation could simply be that rights have expired and Atlus didn't see the benefit to renew them, they're only responsible for localization duties (they don't localize third parties anymore). Some titles formerly published by them are now under other companies like NISA or in this particular case Nicalis. Also it's relevant to mention this is not the first time a title is pulled from the eshop, it also happened with Tetris GB and Project x Zone

Re: Random: There's Now A Grand Total Of Three Games On The Switch eShop In China

Kr96

@Heavyarms55 Don't mix it up, there ARE Switch games in the chinese market but prior to the console's official launch there they were all imports and the usual asian chinese/english releases. They still are because as the article says the approval process takes way too much time, hence why companies like Square Enix simply don't bother submitting titles and make a single asian version

Re: Rumour: Sony Could Be Raiding Konami For Castlevania, Metal Gear And Silent Hill IP

Kr96

I can see Konami licensing said franchises to Sony in order to avoid directly funding new games, similar to Capcom with SFV but outright selling them lol no, they're still making truckloads of money with them. And let's face it, a lot of gamers are being very hypocrite, just replace Sony with Microsoft or Nintendo and they would riot. I simply do not trust Sony's sudden interest in japanese IPs when they've been ignoring them in favor of western games since the PS3 days

Re: Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase Would Like To Remake Final Fantasy V

Kr96

@BanjoPickles It's a case of being baby's first RPG (somewhat like Pokémon in that sense), it came out at the right time with Sony spending big money on advertising so a lot of people feel very nostalgic about it, which is also why VIII is seen as the black sheep among the PS1 FF's. As someone who didn't play it till much later I feel it's pretty good but far from being even the best RPG on that console, not when Suikoden 2 and Xenogears released shortly after

Re: Random: Sega Just Issued A Patch Which Protects Your Sensitive Eyes From Vocaloid Panties

Kr96

An awful lot of people in this comment section are unfamiliar with these but just to clarify Project Diva games have never been that kind of low budget ecchi infested titles like the ones Compile Heart pumps out. This is nothing more than a bug, no game in the series has ever let you peak at the characters underwear, it's even hilariously lampshaded if you try to do it so your censorship cries have no basis. Sega is very protective of their loids as the characters are very appealing among younger players, especially girls, so it's understandable they want to keep it as innocuous as possible

Re: Catherine: Full Body And XCOM 2 Collection Rated For The Nintendo Switch In South Korea

Kr96

@Quarth It does have mature themes, the central one is about Vincent, the main character, and his fear of commitment despite being dating his girlfriend (Katherine, brown haired woman) for several years. Then enters Catherine (blond woman), stuff happens and Vincent finds himself having recurring nightmares where he appears with sheep horns, that's when the gameplay segments come. Depending on your choices you can end up with one girl or the other, not sure what's the deal with the new character Qatherine (pink haired girl), and yes all three have the same name. I recommend you watch some gameplay to see if you like it

Re: PlatinumGames Wants To Bring The Complete Bayonetta Series To Other Platforms

Kr96

@RupeeClock The big difference is that Microsoft has very little choice, Xbox did so badly this gen to the point Game Pass is the most prominent thing they came up with. Spencer's statements about not seeing Sony or Nintendo as competition aren't surprising when Xbox is morphing onto a service rather than a platform, which is why they are allowing Minecraft, Cuphead and others to appear on every other device.

Nintendo doesn't need to go that route and are sticking to what they do best, of course it's not impossible to see Astral Chain or Bayonetta 2&3 everywhere but both companies aren't under equal conditions or much less owing each other something

Re: PlatinumGames Wants To Bring The Complete Bayonetta Series To Other Platforms

Kr96

Kamiya and co. did specifically say TW101 was a very special case of Nintendo allowing it, I really don't see them giving P* the okay to port the rest of Bayo and ultimately Sega is also involved in the deal. For that to happend they'd have to buy the entirety of the franchise's rights and the other two would need to agree in the first place, it's like wanting to self publish Nier Automata when the know that's a SE property and they won't let it go. They really shouldn't bite more what they can chew at the moment

Re: PlatinumGames Wants To Bring The Complete Bayonetta Series To Other Platforms

Kr96

@nessisonett It isn't really about sales but brand recognition, sure Astral Chain turned a success while Bayonetta 2 did more discreetly, but those are games people associate as part of the Nintendo ecosystem and they see enough value in them to keep supporting Platinum. If it were purely about sales Metroid Prime 4 wouldn't be happening at all regardless of being a first party

Re: The Switch Is "Teetering On The Brink Of Becoming Outdated", Says The Financial Times

Kr96

Aren't all consoles technically outdated by the time they release? Especially considering how Ps and Xbox are always playing catch up to Pc, Switch's success is nothing to scoff at when it has already outsold Xbox one in less than three years.

Cloud gaming being a "challenge" to traditional consoles is a laughable claim, Stadia is a huge failure and even when Microsoft is eager to make Xbox a service they aren't completely moving away from dedicated hadware. The tech and infrastructure isn't near to the point to being feasible in most places, much less being something consumers would actually prefer over physical games and systems

Re: Comparing The Witcher Games To The Books Is Like Comparing "Spaghetti Carbonara With A Bicycle", Says Creator

Kr96

I don't know why everyone insists on giving him a hard time when it comes to his creation, at the end of the day he's an old fashioned guy who has been proven wrong multiple times about videogames as a medium, doesn't really care about fame and has quite the temperament.
Which begs the question why exactly CDPR felt the need to base their games off his books when they could've done a completely original IP and avoiding dealing with him, they have enough talent to do so

Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore - A Pitch-Perfect, Feel-Good JRPG

Kr96

@Onion I'm not downplaying anything, japanese fans are mad thus Nintendo offered the refunds. Of course it would be better if didn't get altered (why would you think otherwise), problem is people are completely disregarding the game as trash solely because of censorship, purposefully ignoring the aspects that make it a solid title. Some of us are willing to give it a chance which doesn't automatically mean we are censor happy, and yes, RE has everything to do, it's another form of censorship but the games still manage to sell great there

Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore - A Pitch-Perfect, Feel-Good JRPG

Kr96

@Onion So japanese gamers riot every time a new Resident Evil, or should I say Biohazard releases there? They ALWAYS get the censored versions to accommodate CERO ratings, even the "uncut" releases are way less graphical than western editions

And honestly Amazon is a non metric because it doesn't give you concrete data of how many copies were sold, could been dozens or thousands, maybe a handful. The lowest places on Oricon, Media Create or other japanese sales charts are in the order of 1000 copies and it didn't chart in any of them

Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore - A Pitch-Perfect, Feel-Good JRPG

Kr96

The biggest problem I find is that weebs have this mentaility of every japanese game, manga, anime, being something sacred, untouchable, free of all criticism because how we dare as filthy westerns to question the almighty japanese creators and always whiteknighting the culture as something completely different, values dissonance being a non issue, etc. And sure thing both cultures are vastly different but just like they can pass judgement about us, our society, our entertainment we can do just as much with them, but always with respect which is what is sorely missing in this comment section

Now personally I couldn't care less about the changes, as a big Atlus fan this was my most desired game from WiiU but never felt like buying the console so this port is a godsend. If others do have a problem with it they should just ignore it altogether, it's futile to still being sour just two days before release, even worse spewing all kinds of insults or attacks to people who will buy it

Re: You'll Want To Avoid Importing Physical Switch Games From China

Kr96

@Averagewriter Going any further? Do you realize this region locking is only happening because of tencent? It's obvious it was part of their agreement and if nintendo wants any chance at the chinese market they have to play by their rules, the rest of the world has nothing to worry about it. In case you didn't realize switch first party games are all a single version internationally, it's the reason why you can buy super mario odyssey from the japanese eshop and play it on english

Re: Hands On: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Could Give The Game The Second Chance It Deserves

Kr96

The Kingdom Hearts of Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei? That is both stupid and makes absolutely no sense, the former is a repetitive nonsensical button masher and ain't really representative of either Disney or Final Fantasy as per the most recent titles while the latter are higher caliber RPG's with actual quality

And yeah people who didn't like it the first time won't like it now so you can freely move on instead of complaining yet again, the ones who can get past its looks or flaws will probably find an enjoyable experience with the mindset of being its own thing with light references to SMT and FE

Re: Dragon Quest: Your Story Looks Set For A Netflix Release This Year

Kr96

@Dang69 Late reply but trust me, Toriyama's style is one of the bigger reasons why the franchise historically has never been popular in the west, if you ask people on gaming forums you'll always get that kind of reply, doesn't help it constantly gets compared to Final Fantasy in how the stories and characters are much simpler, how graphics seem too cartoony and childish. And quite frankly if you read or watch too much of Tori's works you'll see how he doesn't have much variety when it comes to character designs, he is infamous for drawing a lot of same-faces.

Interestingly while his designs are so synonymous with DQ the Dai no Daibouken manga and anime are huge in Japan and other contries and those have a completely different artstyle so the movie flopping with japanese audiences have more to do with how it completely butchers the story, it's bad plain and simple and not entirely because of the designs

Re: The 10 Best-Selling Physical Video Games Of The Past Decade Within The UK

Kr96

GTA V still being at the top of sales charts huh, no wonder why Rockstar barely puts an effort nowadays. Their only new game this gen was RDR2 and that technically isn't so "new" being just a sequel.

And it's even more baffling they haven't released anything other than L.A. Noire on Switch, porting San Andreas would be easy money for them and it's not like it hasn't been remastered already, same with the likes of Manhunt, Bully, other GTA's that have been on both PS4 and Xbox for years

Re: Analysts Agree That Switch Will Be King In 2020, Less Sure About The Switch Pro

Kr96

@sixrings This is an interesting take, on one hand switch's hybrid nature made it succesful but will all future Nintendo consoles be hybrid as well or will still use cartridges? Considering how limited they currently are in terms of storage space and especially manufacturing cost if they want to keep using them they'd need to be at least 100gb or more, which is quite complicated when not even the 64gb model is being produced at the moment

Re: Analysts Agree That Switch Will Be King In 2020, Less Sure About The Switch Pro

Kr96

I seriously doubt Nintendo will release an upgrade substantially different to the current Switch, that would only further divide the user base. The Lite model has an advantage in practicality but doesn't replace the base model so it's still kinda justifiable to own both but a Pro with exclusive games wouldn't sit well with the general consumer. If anything by the time Ps5/XboxSX drop Nintendo will be at advantage of a wider catalogue so they'd just have to pump out their remaining exclusives for one or two more years (by that time it would be around five or six years in the market) and then releasing their next console. Besides even if a Pro model did release after all it doesn't mean third parties will change their mind when they are currently busy developing stuff for next gen, if anything the trend of late ports would still continue, fans will complain about it and it'll be the sam

Re: Hideki Kamiya Thinks The Switch Home Menu Is A "Piece Of Crap"

Kr96

@Onion I still sometimes visit the 3ds eshop and lags quite a bit and even worse it crashes out of nowhere, it's rather infrequent but it does happen. What I find more annoying is when the system stutters in the home screen if you're using a theme with a lot of effects or music
