When does this stuff go live? This adventurer-renaming thing could make me buy the game. Does anyone who already owns the game know how this will work? Will you have to do a lot of work / get far in the game to access this "dungeon" and rename your adventurers?
Solid release. And another mildly interesting WiiWare title. It's good that they're piling on the Neo Geo games after people spent months complaining about the lack of them. They'll run out at this rate!
Shining Force II! While it's not as good as the original, it's still a wonder to behold. I am excited! With this and PSIV on the horizon, the Genesis is going to see some sweet action on my Wii in coming months.
Rexy, you're not the only one who "told you so." Pretty much everyone here concluded that this would be the pattern over the last couple of weeks. That said, this is a fair enough update.
DDR, it IS possible. All you have to do is delete some stuff from your Wii. Don't blame Nintendo, blame your own laziness. You mustn't want those games very badly.
Other than mine, Junichi's post at #53 is the best in this yangthread. It never ceases to amaze me that little kids threaten to boycott Nintendo just because Australia & France's VC schedule is... well, still fine. 5 (good) VC releases last week and 2 WW releases this week (one of them not bad), and yet people still find reason to cry? Kids these days...
Looks like they're just alternating release weeks. This shouldn't surprise anybody. We've been speculating about that for a while now. At least you got some WiiWare, so it's not like it was a total shutout.
On the bright side, maybe this will mean your regular VC weeks are larger every time. I know, I know, it would even out to the same number of VC games as if they were stretched out to every week, but people have been saying it would be better to get all the VC games in in one big chunk. Are people going to pull an about-face now and complain that that's not what they want? Probably.
Obviously they're working on a storage solution. I don't think he said they weren't. He only said that geeks and otaku were the ones calling for it. And given the massive outburst after the comment, it's clear that he was right. Classy response from him, I think.
Drake, does this mean if you have used a Mii once in Wii Sports and then move him to the parade, the save data for the whole game will be deleted? Or just that his stats/presence in the game will be deleted, like when you delete the Mii? I can't see it removing the save for the whole game (at least in the case of that game),
And as far as I know, it only removes the Mii's birthday and "Mii creator" data, and the name of the person who made the Mii is hardly "other important data".
Forget 3-4 games a week... why aren't we getting 100 games per week? Better yet, how about every C64, SMS, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, 32X, Sega-CD, TG-16, TG-CD, and Neo-Geo game ever released—tomorrow at noon! If Nintendo doesn't give us that I'll cry in my soup and never buy anything ever again.
Adamant is 100% correct when he says "Don't expect too much - it's a good game, but it's ridiculously overrated." There are two more reasons that its overratedness is being even more amplified. First, it hasn't been released in Australia and France yet, so there are a whole bunch of people who haven't had a chance to experience it. Second, there aren't many (any?) SNES RPGs on the VC yet, so its value is being inflated. When it comes to actual SNES (and Genesis) RPGs as a whole, there are about 15 of them that are better than SMRPG. But because of the reasons listed above, it's getting quite a surprising amount of credit.
You know what? I pretty much believe his apology. You know why? Because, despite an almost fanatical level of coverage on these sites, I didn't ever at one single moment see or read a convincing transcript of the interview IN CONTEXT. Every article I read took the "geeks and otakus" quote, surrounded it with inflammatory commentary, and threw it to the hyenas.
I think Zombi is right. Nintendo saying one thing and doing another is not the issue here. The issue is that a steamy little punk got rejected and cried about it on his blog. That doesn't reflect poorly on Nintendo (they have to maintain some quality standards after all), but it does reflect poorly on the crybaby. I think his loudmouth whiner approach only justifies Nintendo's rejection.
Rexy: "Nope, because Earthbound and Chrono Trigger are actually good games."
Amen.
Anyway, this is (ostensibly) a review site. The point of this site is for us to chime in with our opinions of games. Not everyone likes SMRPG. All of you people hopping on Rexy and saying things like "the rest of us like SMRPG!" are wrong. The rest of us don't. Some of us do, some of us don't. SMRPG is not a classic. It's not one of those games that deserves universal acclaim. So none of you should be surprised to hear from one of the many people who don't like it.
Happy time!
EDIT: The last post before mine is a classic PKB. Lame.
@Junichi: I happen to agree with Rexy that this is one of the weaker RPGs I've ever played (Secret of Evermore is worse, at least). Still, it has a cult following. If people like it, power to 'em. I'm not going to be ignorant enough to stop taking their opinions seriously.
@WarioFan63: Trust me, I have complained to the people who run this site about their erroneous region labelling. But they've made it clear that they're too lazy to fix a small and easily corrected mistake, thus securing their place in this wild video game "journalism" industry.
@ Driveshaft: Awesome post, but he didn't say that all geeks want a hard drive. He said that most hard drive wanters are geeks. So your logic is off. You can't be that geeky!
This game is a cheap attempt to rope in addicts. Offering a Mew for planting 999 pokeymans in your ranch is a pretty sneaky trick, since that Mew is probably the only reason most people will dump $10 on this sucker.
@ calculon - probably because they provide you with a product that you enjoy. They can call me names all they want; if they continue creating excellent games that provide me with entertainment, I'll keep playing them.
I'm excited about Phantasy Star IV. SMRPG is pretty overrated, IMO, so I doubt I'll get that right away (I didn't care for it when I owned the cart). Pretty good month for Japan, anyway.
I'm perfectly content with the VC release pattern and with the Wii's storage. I want Dr. Mario, but I know it'll be coming soon, so I can say I'm content with the WiiWare release schedule, too. I can't wrap my head around why some spoiled babies here still complain about these things. Poor little sooks.
Square Enix is a company, not a kindly old grandfather. These decisions aren't "stingy", they're business. People need to wake up. The S-E rep quoted in the article is right: if S-E can make more money by remaking games and releasing them on the DS or PSP, then they should do that. It's what's best for the company. I read this article in the same way—not as confirmation that we're going to get an influx of VC games, but as confirmation that we're not going to get them unless S-E decides definitively not to do a remake. And if S-E is run as an intelligent business—which would seem to be confirmed by this rep's comments and the moaning of the simpleton fanboy community—than that collection of games that trickles down to the direct-download VC level will be the games they don't have a lot of faith in.
Looks for games with low remake value, like Secret of Evermore and a lot of the Enix one-offs (Robotrek, The 7th Saga, etc.).
EDIT: I mean, the core gameplay is identical. There are more game modes (3D) and options (records, save slots) to flesh out the main puzzle play. I think the extra features are worth the extra $2 if you can stomach the pokeymans.
A game that just features blackjack? But playing blackjack isn't even fun, it's just automatic. For every single hand, there's a precise play you're supposed to make. At least this isn't too expensive...

Re: Most Popular WiiWare Games in North America (25th June)
Toki Tori and Dr. Mario should both be higher on the list. Everything else is fine.
Re: Super Mario RPG Released in Japan Today
Pretty awesome week. Sub-par children's RPG aside, they got Phantasy Star IV and the Igo WiiWare game! Hopefully PSIV comes out in North America soon.
Also, for all of the fans in Australia and France, here's hoping you guys don't have to wait all year for SMRPG.

Extra Mii storage. Serendipity, since I saw someone here mention that she had filled up her Mii plaza yesterday.

This'll be a pass for me. It's somewhat middling as an RPG... but if you lurves your Mario in your RPGs then it should be a good pick for you.
Re: Only Geeks And Otaku Want Extra Storage On The Wii
KhaoShar: "Of course we are geeks, why else would we be d/l-ing retro games to our Wiis?! Someone tell this guy who his customers are, please."
