Another great Koei game. I'm not surprised that they're releasing this one before the first one, given than they started the RTK series with the weakest game (IV) and haven't released the first three yet...
Kudos on "North America"! Hray! The billiards game actually looks interesting, but billiards games tend to get kind of boring after relatively few plays. Might try it, but might stick to live-action stuff.
I think his response to the negative reactions of slavering fanboys is pretty funny. Of course, I also think the fact that people would poop their pants over minor graphical and audio updates is pretty damn hilarious as well.
Bass, it's not like the FFT games. Those are grid-based and turn-based. This is a real-time free-roaming strategy game. You essentially set commands to your various units and they all go on their way, getting into battles as they run into enemy units, etc. You can change their orders/destination at any time. Actions in battle take place automatically depending on the setup of your unit.
Starwolf, I very well may contact them. I held out hope when I saw the contrast option, but it's really just a brightness option, and that doesn't help. I haven't had a problem with other colour-matching games, but the first few colours in this one just happen to hit the hotspots.
The only thing that's missing from this review is mention of the fact that the colours are absolutely indistinguishable from each other, making this game impossible to play for people with even slight red-green colour blindness. I tried the second stage (the one with light orange, light green, and pale yellow) several times and managed to complete 1-2 yellow hexes just by rotating randomly. Then I deleted the game.
So much for the less is more approach. How about more contrast between the colours? Even the game's built-in contrast setting just changes the brightness, which is no help.
Good conclusion to the review. That's the same thing that happened to me. I was just going to clear a couple Cubellos before work, and I ended up not being able to peel myself away from the screen until I had finished all 6 stages from levels 1-3. Fun puzzler. Try playing with the Zapper!
@ Loooca — I know Link to the Past stands on its own. I was merely explaining Mana's high quality in relation to games that had been invoked throughout the course of discussions here already, especially for the sake of people who have played those games and not Mana. Basic point: Mana is a champion among SNES games, not to be missed.
For what it's worth, for the doubters—I think Secret of Mana is a better game than Chrono Trigger, a better game than Final Fantasy VI, even a better game than Final Fantasy IV (barely). It's a better game than Link to the Past. It's a much better game than Secret of Evermore. Tons of light-hearted fun, fun to play, fantastic music. 10x more fun if you have 1-2 other people to play with.
PS: Europe, I have a sad suspicion that you guys will be missing out on Mana or Mario Golf for a week or two, since we don't have Earthworm Jim yet. It sounds like the perfect set-up for a trade-off catch-up week later on. Hope I'm wrong, but...
Huge week. If Cubello isn't Coloris as we had previously thought, I'm a little iffy about it (will have to wait to see what it is). But with my #1 fave SNES game ever and what people acclaim as the best WW game on the same day, I am one happy camper.
OMG... My favourite SNES game is actually here! Hurray! Hraey! Hurrah! Thanks Square! How appropriate for me to thank them for a wonderful treat on Thanksgiving Day!
Will have to get both WW games as well. Big week! Happy Thanksgiving!
You know what this means? We get to spend October-November catching up on the awesome games they already have in Japan. Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force II, Secret of Mana.
Wow, trashed! I think they know the game is hopeless so they're just chucking it out there ASAP without any regard for the fact that its competition will eat it alive.
Looks like this means North America is not getting Bomberman Blast this week though.
As far as I know, all we know is that it's coming in Sept. There is another Monday in Sept. after the 22nd. It's not even being released in Japan until the 24th. I'd say the 22nd and the 29th are just as likely, and I wouldn't be disappointed to have to wait one week for it... because it's just one week.
I'm glad to see some opposing views of the game in the comments. Not because I like the game or even intend to play it (too expensive!), but simply because no one can come to a clear picture of a game they haven't played without listening to multiple disagreeing sides. The negative comments in the review and the negative comments posted by readers about the review are both important.
Good review. It can be hard to write a "good" negative review, so I was a bit worried about how well it would come off, but you did it justice. Between the lacklustre critical reception and the absurd price tag, this game won't sell very well.
This doesn't really look all that compelling... I agree with a previous poster who said that this game really couldn't be priced any higher than 500 points, unless it gets a whole bevy of options we don't know about yet.
Why are there cranky non-Europeans complaining about another region getting tons of games? I'll never understand this competitiveness between the regions when it comes to what gets released where and when. We should be happy when good games come out anywhere.
Hmm... still undecided. I think what I'll do is download this, but I'll wait till a dry week to do it. NHL 2k9 also came out today, making this week not very dry at all!
@ x.SuperMario.x: This isn't really an issue of personal taste. It's fine for people to want Mega Man 9—that's actually good taste—but it's a little silly for people to expect it right now. It's like yanging that Final Fantasy 14 didn't come out today. Cart before horse.

Re: Nobunaga's Ambition
Great game! Not quite as good as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, but the VC definitely needs more strategy games.
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - December 2008
NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION!
Bring it here, along with more Koei games!
Re: EU VC Releases: Phantasy Star IV and Mega Man 3
Both games would make a single-game week bearable. I sure hope we get PSIV on Monday. Good VC week, France!
Re: USA VC Update: Mega Man 3
Yes! The second best main-series Mega Man game! Will download as soon as I get home!
Re: Hudson's Upcoming WiiWare Games Revealed

Re: USA VC Update: Space Harrier
Hahah, interesting update. If this is our slightly delayed Halloween release, I guess it truly is horrifying.
Re: New DSiWare Details Revealed
I'll be waiting for Nintendo's next-gen portable, which will be just around the corner from DSi's release.
Re: Mega Man 3
I want this one week after Japan gets it... or the same week.

OGRE BATTLE!

Re: Toki Tori Invades Japan
Go Toki Tori! Love that game.
Re: Second Wave of Mega Man 9 DLC Released!
How much are these things?
Fake Man is interesting, but I don't care for Time Attack mode. Maybe I'll add him when I'm out of stuff to do.
Re: World of Goo is Officially the Best Wii Game Ever
Well, that didn't take long. For it to drop back under Galaxy, I mean.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (15th Oct)
The problem isn't the cost. The problem is that it's up against Mega Man 9 and Bomberman Blast.
Re: Secret of Mana
Best SNES game. Keep your eyes peeled for the Moogles!
Re: New Swords & Soldiers Gameplay Video
Real time = not for me. I'm too slow.

1000 points is not "a bit" high, it is "way too" high.
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - October 2008
@Wolf — Hey, I'll be happy if we get one of those games. I'm not presumptuous enough to expect them all!

Gradius II is a nice addition.

Re: USA VC Releases: Super Dodge Ball and Vectorman
Wow, Super Dodge Ball, MM9, 33% discount on Plattchen, and Vectorman! What a week!

Re: Capcom's Mega Man 9 Press Kit Goes Retro
@ Supermarioman — actually, if they only release 200 or so, it'll be worth far, far more than $30 on eBay.

Great VC week! MM2 alone is certainly worth it. Good thing, too, since the WW games this week leave something to be desired.

Re: Tetris Party - Japanese Trailer
The price is right. It's a little bit pricey, but it's Tetris and it looks to be worth it. I'll get it on day one.
To be honest, though, the balance board functionality sounds tacked on. I don't think anyone is surprised by this.

Re: Nintendo’s Storage Solution: Better Than HDD, Expected Soon
They're going to start putting games on carts again. That way save data can be stored right on the game, freeing up 10-20 blocks... total.

Be patient. Holy smokes.
Re: Potpourri Coming To US WiiWare Next Monday!
Looks like another Bust-a-Movealike? Will this be coming to the Canadian WiiWare as well? I'm a big puzzler fan, but I'll be passing on this one.
Mega Man 9 won't be coming out until after Mega Man 2. I'd say Mega Man 2 next week and then 9 the week after.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Groovin' Blocks
@ x.SuperMario.x — to be fair, he was talking about people who only have one hand.
Re: Shin'en Interview - Fun! Fun! Minigolf
Below 1000 points, eh? That may make this a purchase. It really does look pretty, and mini golf can be damn fun with a group.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Groovin' Blocks
Colour blind mode? That is awesome, pure and simple. It's very nice to see a developer actually considering things like that. Hmm...
