As barmy as it sounds, might you have accidentally activated the 'no special moves' cheat? It's something you do in the game's intro, and the only way you could deactivate it was by deleting the Wii suspension point (As the game can remember it if you just reset it via the Wii home menu) but then, you did say you deleted the save data...
@Davie, I seem to have trouble doing Dhalsim's teleport, but everything else is fine apart from that. Regarding the rapid fire moves, it seems to be the middle punch/kick buttons that work best for those.
Adament, 42 All Time Classics/Clubhouse Games on the DS was rated just a 12+ (And a T in America, I *think*) despite having a fair bit of gambling. It was also an excellent little game =]
I wouldn't mind knowing why video game gambling is hazardous to people under 12 (Or indeed 18!) though =/
Personally, I think this is the weakest of the trilogy+Knuckles. It's still a great game, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't feel quite complete, and doesn't quite have the charm of the first two games. Not to mention a pretty underwhelming last boss. Oh, and an inferior 2 Player to Sonic 2's! (It was fun time trialling those stages in Single Player though)
Still, good game, maybe I'll bite if they allow us the Sonic & Knuckles lock on goodness =]
Nice to see every region has Paper Mario now, as a fan of the game back in its day it's great seeing newbies picking it up now and loving it. It's finally getting the attention it truly deserves!
Downloaded it not a moment or two later after 12pm, and finished it now (I should really get some sleep!)
What a game. Love it, my favourite Mega Drive game, one of my favourite 16-bit games, my favourite Sonic game, and one of my favourite platformers. And to top it off, one of my favourite nostalgia games! This was one of my 'ultimate' childhood games. As such, I had to have it via my Wii =P
Heck, I'll probably go through it again this weekend! I need to do a seven chaos emerald run through...
Bravo, bravo! Very good article, balanced about the console's positives and negatives, and reminds me of the good ol' days. *Hugs N64*
I was an owner back in the day, we opted for it over a Playstation. It did mean expensive games of course, and it didn't have the glamour of third party that Sony's grey fella did, but when Nintendo developed an N64 game, it was usually not only excellent, but easily among the best you could get in the late nineties.
The Playstation is an excellent console, I certainly won't deny that (Although I was so smug seeing games having to load when I played it over a friend's house; my games didn't have to do that! >=]), but for the memories, the classics it produced and the clumsy but still well designed controller, the N64 remains the best 32/64bit console for me!
This is my first foray into the series, and I liked it a lot It's hard, but not impossibly hard, and thankfully there aren't too many cheap deaths (But there are one or two, right Fireman? ¬_¬).
Gets 5/5 from me, although admittedly only just (If it didn't, it'd be a very high 4/5 =])
One of my all time favourite platformers and Mega Drive games, not to mention one of the better barmy Japanese games! Now to decide whether to re-buy it or not...
Yeah, the dialogue wasn't great ("Do you want an explanation on trading souls?" "Yes" "All right, let's trade souls!" Err, hello? Explanation?) Not enough to ruin the game though =]
I didn't know it had one or two new cut scenes, I think the original Breath of Fire GBA port did too. I remember there being a manga style drawing at one point in the game which definitely won't have been in the SNES version.
More than anything, I think I'm going to miss the dash button, movement will be pretty slow without it! Ah well, not enough to ruin the game. Let's hope us Europeans get it tonight, or soon anyway!
link64- I agree Diddy had the lesser multiplayer, but not by much; Icicle Pyramid was brilliant, as was the egg nest one =] Playing those online on Diddy Kong Racing DS makes up for all the touch screen rubbish!
I do love this however, one of my favourite N64 games, and one of the better instalments (though not the best, right Super/DS?) of my favourite racing series! Four player Yoshi's Valley tells me to rate this five stars, so I will!
"If you like your 2D fighters then this really is a must-have, it's just a shame you don't get the lovely metal tin that was given away free with the UK SNES version at the time!"
Ah, that's what I saw on ebay!
Despite what my balloon fighting, vegetable throwing, mach riding Megaman friend may say, I'm now jealous of America for getting this! *Hopes we get it soon*
I love this game =] I loved the first one on the GBA despite its shortcomings, so imagine my pleasant surprise when I moved onto the even better sequel!
Though I hear the SNES version is much harder than the GBA version, and I did find the GBA one hard as it was! Still, 800 of my points shall definitely go to this, as should any RPG fan's 800 points =] (Just be prepared for a daft English translation!)
Steve, that was on the original release too. Resetting the console seemed to keep how many emeralds you had gathered. I used it once or twice to have Super Sonic throughout the game ^_^
Not a bad list at all =] I'd love to try out Kirby myself.
A few I would add would add: Castle of Illusion, Quackshot, Dynamite Headdy, Yoshi's Island, Monster World IV (Although this was Japanese only =/), Aladdin and The Lion King.
I'll be getting this. May get Super too, but I've become hopelessly addicted to the plug in and play of the Mega Drive version, and would love to have the SNES version on the VC. Great game, and the fact I had no experience of it back in the day just shows its timeless quality!
I'm not sure if I'll play this for a while, I tried to do a 'complete in one go' the other night, but ran out of lives/continues on the final boss!
It's an excellent game in any case though. It doesn't meet the dizzying heights of Mario's other platformers, but the game is very playable, and with a few exceptions (I hate that level with all those ostro birds!), top notch level design. Plus, it has a very catchy overworld theme!
I loved Donkey Kong Land II on the Game Boy, so the moment I got a pre-owned SNES, this was on my wanted list. After luckily finding it complete in Gamestation (£15 about, yeowch!), it became very heavily played! The best out of the Donkey Kong games if my two cents are anything to go by. I've only gone and downloaded it again! And I suggest you all do as well, especially if for the first time
I'm deciding which one to get, funnily enough. I can afford both, but I think I'll save one until after my exams. I love Mario Golf games, particularly the handheld ones, but also like platformers!
I'm sort of leaning towards NES Open Golf though... Especially since I haven't got a sports game on the VC, and it'd add a bit of variety to my collection. Someone help me decide!
Where did you get that idea Demon? I love RPGs, and also love Story of Thor... It's not an RPG, it's an action adventure in the same way that Zelda is, so going by that idea, you should hate Zelda if you like RPGs!
I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative, but I think it is a good game, regardless of your taste in RPGs
I do quite like this, but the sound isn't very good at all... The music is really blotchy and forgettable, quite annoying too And the SEGA yell! It's all scrumpled up!
Can I say that Story of Thor is quite good? I didn't know what to think at first, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot now, it's the game's fighting system that lets it come into its own. Give it a go, especially if you like Zelda games
Neither Mario Kart or Super Mario 64 had the Wii Suspension points, is that the case with this too? As strange as it sounds, it may be what makes or brakes my purchase of this; I have to find an excuse to buy the same game again
Hmm... I may get this. I can remember playing a friend's copy of the Game Boy version and enjoying it, but it doesn't seem the most exciting concept these days... I guess I'll have to rely on your review guys!
No borders at all Dan? And full speed? That's quite something! SNES VC games tend to have minimized borders, but they're still there, and the speed tends to be the same as the original 50Hz version.
Using passwords for such a game is strange though, there's a lot of information for the password to keep track of, explaining the long characters length. Still irritating though...
I'm quite curious about this though, shall consider a purchase
Are you sure Ryan? The Super Mario Bros on the VC is the NES one rather than the Super Mario All Stars one, they'll probably use the NES version of this too. Personally, I'd like both the NES and the All Stars version!
Not a bad game this If you have at least a little interest in puzzlers, I'd definitely reccomend it. It's certainly unique! Has that addictive factor about it too.
Indecipherable, it would make little sense as a business to release all of the games at once. If they were to do that, many titles would just get ignored or lost in a sea of games. Doing it this way means that the games released each week are more likely to be given a look, especially the more obscure ones.
I can understand your frustration, as it can lead to poor weeks like this. But then, we've had good weeks *Hugs Mario Kart 64/Soldier Blade week*

Re: US VC Releases - 30th July - Dynamite Headdy
Anyone who calls this a bad week despite the inclusion of Dynamite Headdy gets smacked!
Re: Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Good grief, that is odd Davie!

Re: US VC Releases - 23rd July - Shining Force
Wow, I want to play Shining Force (For the first time may I add), I guess that's something to look forward to on Mega Drive week =]

Re: US VC Releases - 16th July - Paper Mario
Pfft, we had that three days ago =P
Nice to see every region has Paper Mario now, as a fan of the game back in its day it's great seeing newbies picking it up now and loving it. It's finally getting the attention it truly deserves!
Re: Paper Mario
Woo! Love this game, and now us Europeans have it =D
It's a whopping 270 blocks as well, but it's worth every single one. Third best N64 game behind OOT and Mario 64 in my book!
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Was this actually released in Europe?
Re: Adventures of Lolo
Only that? Keep going, it's not that taxing there. It does get a lot more challenging and fun a tiny bit after where you are.
But then again, it just may not be your cup of tea. As a huge puzzle fan, it's a gem I'm glad I've discovered, but it isn't necessarily for everyone.
Re: Drop Off
It has rather nice music though, going by that video!

Re: Adventures of Lolo
How far are you Mendez? Keep at it, it does pick up at around about floor 3-4. Then it's puzzle heaven from then onwards!
Re: Mega Man
Just completed it!

"You got a secret bonus point!"
One of my all time favourite platformers and Mega Drive games, not to mention one of the better barmy Japanese games! Now to decide whether to re-buy it or not...
Re: Kirby's Dream Course
This came out two days after me buying it on the SNES pre-owned! Gah, if I had known, I would have waited =(
Still, it's a great game, easily reccomended

Re: Gunstar Heroes
Have to post another comment, just to be able to give this game the five star score it deserves! Without a doubt the ultimate 2D run and gunner ^_^
Re: Adventures of Lolo
Wolfman, it should do, it was released in America.
And yay, I completed this yesterday ^_^ Feels like such an achievement! Now bring on Lolo 2 and 3! (And, err, 1 for the USA =P)
Re: Chew Man Fu
Good grief, I thought the '550 rounds' thing was a typo, but this does appear to be the case!
That's brilliant value for money though, I'll be able to pop onto this game and always have a fresh level to play for a long time!

Am very impressed with this so far =] Just downloaded it and am a newcomer to the game, but it's addictive! It's already getting really tricky too..
Re: Dragon Spirit
...Another TG-16 shooter!?
Good grief! Still, as long as they're great games =)
Re: Australia to get TurboGrafx-16 games in July
Yay for Australia! It's so nice to see them getting the TG-16 games now, after that incredibly odd 'The console wasn't released there' reason.
You're in for a treat guys =] Make me happy and buy Soldier Blade, Chew Man Fu and Dragon's Curse!

I wouldn't say empty, just a little unfair in the lack of checkpoints. The way you have to earn the power up to not be sent back is a bit strange too.
Very good game though, I was so happy when I managed to complete it! Soldier Blade is the better game, but this is still worth a look =)
Re: US VC Releases - 19th March - Beyond Oasis
