The second game is the also-quite-legendary gorefest Splatterhouse. Lucky PAL Wii owners got the chance to sample this cult classic on Friday, but thankfully US gamers haven't had to wait long in order to do the same. Another fine addition to the VC library, this arcade conversion turned heads at the time thanks to some rather disturbing visuals.
Completing the trio is a game that has been on everyone's lips for weeks now - Excitebike. This NES gem is strangely not listed as a new release on the VC, but it certainly wasn't available for download last week - gremlins in the system, perhaps? Whatever the reason, it rounds off a fine week for US Wii owners.

Well, I was expecting Zelda II to come this week... But I can play Splatterhouse !
When is Punch Out coming out?
I'm not sure, shall I consult my crystal ball to find out for you?
Can you please try and keep your comments constructive - saying stuff like 'When is X game coming out' is a waste of time - if a date isn't listed on the 'coming soon' page then we don't know when it's coming out!
Dazza's crystal ball is faulty, anyway.
I mean no offense to Nintendo, but I really got into the idea of the VC because I loved the older Nintendo games... but they keep doing Genesis and TG16 games before Nintendo games. Come on, Nintendo, I want to play the great games that I want! This week is just disappointing, only Excitebike is the game that saves it. No offense to anyone who loves the other two, but I just have no interest in them.
i got your constructive comments right here: regarding Zelda, its a big Nintendo conspiracy. How strange that lttp is in the us and the aof is in EU. I can tell you the day aof hits US will be the same day as lttp hits EU to increase excitement. Although i cant tell you when this will occur, actually it will transpire April 6th and 9th, interview source:

anyway now that excitebike is here in the US i will now download DKC so its like 2 games in one... oh ya... yep
"Come on, Nintendo, I want to play the great games that I want!"
Don't we all. But on a different note, if I only wanted to play games I'm familiar with, then I would NEVER have discovered wonderful gems like Military Madness, Gunstar Heroes, and especially Chew Man Fu. These are games I played for the first time thanks to the VC and I'm glad they're putting more obscure titles ahead of the more obvious mainstream classics. I love the good old classics like Mario and Zelda, but they can wait.
I am very jealous! I don't want to wait until Friday for Story of Thor/Beyond Oasis
Does Dazza or Damo have any thoughts on the rumours about Sega Saturn games appearing on the VC?
It's a unfounded rumour from what we can tell. Sega might be bring Nights II to the Wii but it won't be a VC download. Watch our news page for any hard facts about this, it would be great if possible!
Well, I'm just glad to see more RPGs uploaded onto the VC. Yes, Sword of Vermilion was a bit of a disapointment but it's a step in the right direction. I'm just waiting for Super Mario RPG and River City Ransom (I consider it an action RPG of sorts).
Well then, Dazza or Damo, do ya'll think it will be possible for Sega to bring it's House of the Dead franchise to the Wii?
Heck, I would kill for Namco to bring its Time Crisis series to the Wii!!
According to wikipedia link to the past will be released in Europe sometime in march so it will probably be released next week.
Brian Drayton: it's crystal ball time again! Yes it's possible, will it happen? Your guess is as good as mine, no signs of this so far. Still Nintendo is getting several NES lightgun games ready for the VC so it shows they are fairly confident that the wiimote will do the job. Fingers crossed eh?
Battletoads plz.
Sorry I meant this Friday
"I mean no offense to Nintendo, but I really got into the idea of the VC because I loved the older Nintendo games... but they keep doing Genesis and TG16 games before Nintendo games."
if they released all the good games first no one would buy the crappy ones. by releasing them first, people get bored waiting to play the good ones and get those in the mean time.

Except Splatterhouse and Beyond Oasis are NOT crappy games. The early 90s days of Nintendo Vs Sega Vs NEC are over - we can all be mature enough to call a good game a good game no matter what system it is on.
"we can all be mature enough to call a good game a good game no matter what system it is on."
chill out bro, i was speaking generally. some good games have come out already obviously. i was just saying they aren't going to release all the good ones at once.

Agreed. And this was a strong week for VC releases in the US. Besides, we should save our immaturity for making fun of the crappy releases on Xbox Live Arcade and PS Network.

Exactly! No matter how dissapointed gamers feel about all the Nintendo goodies not coming out at once on the VC it's not as bad as the 360/ps3 service!
I might have to eat my words as Microsoft are finally stepping up their game - symphony of the night FTW!
I am willing to admit the TG16 and Genesis games are great in their own right, but in all honesty, I would rather play some of my old favorite NES games first.
But that was never, ever the intention of the Virtual Console. The VC is there to allow people to play the best games from a wide range of consoles.
There really is no pleasing some people - I'm sure there would be a fair amount of complaints if the VC only featured NES games and nothing else!
Be open minded here, when you see a game like Beyond Oasis released, you should think "Wow a great game I've never played before" not "Ah crap, it's not a game I've played to death over a period of 15 years so I'm not interested"
If you wanted to try new games you could always download a complete romset of snes, nes, genesis, turbografx, and 64 games...I Have.
@Charles - you're clearly on the wrong website then.
Charles - I wanted a nice big LCD TV so I broke into my neighbours house and stole it. Thanks for your tips mate yyaaaarrrrrr!
I wouldn't respond too harshly to the ROM comments (provided he doesn't start posting links anyway). Keep in mind that if it wasn't for the popularity of "underground" emulation in the first place, concepts like the Virtual Console would have never been implemented. Me -- I still have roms, I'll admit. But I'm glad to finally be able to support the rights holder and buy them legally and enjoy them on a Nintendo console where they belong.
Any chance of master quest being released on the virtual console I mean I have the rom and it works on my N64 emulator ( I don't play on it cause I do not have a controller ) so Nintendo should be able to get it on the virtual console even if it was not released on the N64 .
Damo: I concur with everything and I understand that point of view... doesn't make me happy though. =P
On the same level, there are plenty of games for the NES and SNES that I never got to play. Zombies Ate my Neighbors for instance is one upcoming VC release that I've never played. So I'm not completely wanting my old tried and true games.
Of course, I'd love to play Galaga again.
@Damo - think I'm being dense but I can't see any dates on the coming soon page?
@RMA - That's because Nintendo does not give out release dates in advance. In fact they haven't even announced that those games ARE going to be released. Most of the time what happens is that the games get submitted for review to a ratings agency (such as the ESRB). The only reason for an old game to be rated now would be if the company holding the copyright plans to rerelease it, and that typically means a release on the VC. Check the Source column on the coming soon page to see where they're getting the information that the game is going to be released. You'll see that most of them are because the game has been submitted for a rating.
Absolutely...it's just that Damo pointed us to look at release dates on the coming soon page. Thought I was missing something. That was a very comprehensive response, Steve. Thanks.
Just a thought but if you want people to stop posting when is game xxx coming out, how about you introduce a wishlist section where people can add to a list of games they'd like to see on the vc? Ya never know who's watching...
That's not such a bad idea. Watch this space young RMA!
Well, 19 hours and 15 minutes (from the time of typing) till VC Late Night Thursdays (VC:LNT's for short).
I reckon because we got TMNT (Arcade) on the XBL:A last week and then we got TMNT (NES) on the VC, we'll get Vania (NES) this week because Vania SOTN was the XBL:A game this week.
I also reckon because Konami didn't do Vania (NES) that they'll give us an amazing game just like they gave the XBL:A an amazing game, so I reckon ZAMN will make an appearence.
Then I think we'll get crap as filler, so Sonic Spinball and Elevator Action.
I know it's OT to what you guys have been talking about, but it's the latest news article, so i'm posting my thoughts here.
NVM, just found out that NES Vania was Konami. I really thought that it was Ninty but then Konami took over the franchise.
Nah it's always been Konami mate!
Sonic Spinball, Vectorman and Story of Thor have all been confirmed by Sega Europe to come April 6th, so don't expect any MD games for 2 weeks.
Sonic Spinball is due out of April 6th...think we can expect NES filler this week. Maybe...just maybe...Lttp? There...I said it.
I honestly thought it was Ninty until IV when Konami took over and then started putting it on the other consoles.
Well live and learn
Well if no Spinball filler, I doubt we'll get Tecmo Bowl, so no idea what filler we can get that the states have, unless they give us something completely, er, new? old new? w/e
can someone post the new vc games for europe in ~4h 20 minutes
when the new games will be released? i cant wait till the new zelda is out so please tell us^^
only ~1h 30minutes left. ahhhhhhhhhh i cant wait anymore
