I think it's probably one of the least interesting WiiWare games as it's basically a retro update, but it's by no means a bad one going by the demo. It's classic Dr Mario, and for me being able to play it online makes the 1000 points price very fair.
Wait, am I right in saying the VC version has blood? I'm not really a gore fan but from what I played of it on GameTap I thought the blood worked with the game pretty well, good news that.
I absolutely loved what I played of this, so once I get points I'll definitely download it. At last, a Neo Geo VC game I want!
Interesting how this compares to the UK one. Off the top of my head: We have Sonic 1 and 3 on ours (No Sonic 2 though ), Pac-Man is no.5 or so, the C64 games seem to be performing well (California Games second only to SMB3!) and Wonderboy is at 8.
We also lack Punchout, showing what poor taste we have!
As one of the few mad infidels of the world with five bongos (Jungle Beat didn't have a no-bongos SKU ¬_¬), I think I'll have to get this just for the bongo support!
In all fairness, I can see where Bass is coming from in the lack of variety. Still, if you like puzzlers, you'll love Lolo. Give it a chance, they're both great games
They're very similar, Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3 (And 1 to a lesser extent) were all similar to their SNES counterparts (Though not the 'ports' that everyone makes them out to be, due to different level designs). As such, you'd be familiar with quite a few aspects of the SNES game
It's a great game, but I'd consider it the weakest of the three without hesitation. It has some nice ideas, but more often than not they don't really add anything to the game. Still a pretty charming game And it has references to Mario 64/Link!
That's hardly bad, and I imagine that far outweighs the cost of putting the service and game roms together.
Good for them I say. Despite the slightly grumpy prices and woes here and there, I've been very happy with the VC I hope we get sales chart stuff as well (And beyond the top five, we all know the Mario games will (Deservedly) dominate those!)
That issue is in my NES cart, it's not a VC exclusive problem. It'd be nice if they could fix it though. I don't mind the blue bar on the left, but the funny colours on the right are a little annoying =/
Not *another* ESRB rated game to be excited about!
I guess I'll put my SNES original on Ebay then, it'll be the perfect game to pop in and out of on the Wii
It's not the most 'complete' of the series, but it's a purist's dream, and has all of the charm and addictiveness the series is renowned for. A must buy!
This game is so darn awesome! I'm so glad I'm finally able to play it, I'm a huge fan of Treasure, and this is them at their finest. Marvellous stuff =D
Now this makes me very happy! I took to the VC release of SF 1 very well, and ever since completing it I've been craving the sequel.
I just hope this comes at a time when I can donate a lot of time to it. The first one came at a perfect time for me (Not long after my exams were over), so I was able to play it pretty consistently
But anyway, good to see a "Yay!!" Mega Drive game in the Coming Soon section after the fairly lacklustre recent additions.
Just downloaded it, and tried out the first two levels. I grew up with the first two SoR games, them being among my childhood favourites, so I do like this. Something about it doesn't quite feel right though. I can't point my finger at it, but when you connect an attack with an enemy, it doesn't feel as 'heavy' as it would in the previous two games, and not as satisfying. I know I'm probably not making a lot of sense there though
I like it otherwise (The music, while no where near as catchy as before, is nice and energetic). I could see it being my least favourite in the series, but time will tell, eh?
Hmm, not sure about this. On the one hand, I love Treasure, and seem to love these MD adventures (Story of Thor, LandStalker, Wonderboy, Shining Force to name a few!). But on the other hand, the fans don't exactly speak highly of it =/
Hoho, I was hoping Dan would get mentioned in the article =D
Anyway, I'll pass on this I think. I like fighters, but this seems pretty average, and I get the impression it'd be better to wait for future iterations.
But to be fair, my three star score was probably too fair. Not a brilliant game at all, and not worth 800 points, but it has a little bit of playability!
I thought I'd wait until I completed the game before commenting (I've had it since the EU launch), which I just did! =D
Really enjoyed it, good, simple SRPG fun. Not without faults (There were a few moments in battles where you were, turn by turn, just moving closer and closer to an enemy or two who wouldn't budge until you came nearby), but still an addictive, enjoyable gem in the Mega Drive's crown. Nice ending too =)
I'd be over the moon when/if this does happen. At one point I preferred it to Mario 64, heh. Not the case any more, but still an enjoyable classic. Who could forget Kazooie's delightful cynicism? =D
I love Treasure, I shall definitely be getting this. Especially since it will be the first N64 game on the VC which I haven't already owned/played before!
Good grief, surely it's illegal for them to be cheating us all *again* with these several versions? =P
I don't think I'll bother with this one, due to apparently being pretty unbalanced and slow. Please may we have the Super Turbo that Live Arcade/PSN are getting Capcom?
Good week for you guys, I can personally reccomend Breath of Fire II to any RPG fan. It's not without its faults (It's crying so badly for a better localization ), but it's a good, enjoyable and pretty touching little adventure that's easily worth the 800 Points.
Ghouls 'n Ghosts is great too, although the SNES version is definitely the better game. Still worth it for fans of the series. Long live Capcom! =)
(Which do the fans consider to be better, Contra 1 or 2?)
Good week for you guys! I can't wait to try out Super Metroid, one of those Nintendo Classics I've never gotten around to playing.
Neutopia a 5* game huh? I was just going to get the sequel, as that's supposed to be the much better one, but I may check Neutopia I out if it's that good.
I just had a go of this on the MD collection for the PS2. It's a slice of fun, retro Sega Arcade fun, especially if you put it on Hard. It's pretty juttery in motion, but that's part of the charm I guess!
This is really the sort of thing they should be releasing at a budget price though, there's not enough to it to make it seem worth 800 Wii Points.
Good article! It's always interesting to see just how different the industry was back then, and the NES really was a gem of a console. I didn't own one sadly, but I've been able to discover many of its greats through remakes and the Virtual Console
There's your problem Charco, whatever port the GC controller goes in will map it to that player. It'll have to go into port 2, since the Wii remote linked will be considered player one.
Good to hear Davie, now you can enjoy one of your favourite games how it was meant to be played
Incidentally, I just completed this with M.Bison, and therefore have completed the game with all twelve characters! There's still a lot of room for improvement in how I play, being able to activate Zangief's 360 piledriver and Dhalsim's teleport would be a start! =P
Those that are disappointed, how many of you have played Headdy? I know I'm coming across as an obsessed loon now, but if you haven't I urge you to give it a go. Go on, it's a classic!

I look forward to picking it up sometime

Re: Fatal Fury 2
Maybe it's a bit unfair to say, but I think it looks slow, clunky and 'rigid' going by that video.
Still, more Neo Geo games certainly isn't a bad thing
Re: Top 20 'popular titles' on the Virtual Console - April 2008 (USA)
Interesting how this compares to the UK one. Off the top of my head: We have Sonic 1 and 3 on ours (No Sonic 2 though ), Pac-Man is no.5 or so, the C64 games seem to be performing well (California Games second only to SMB3!) and Wonderboy is at 8.

Re: Nintendo Power Poll - What Games Do You Want To See?
Super Mario Kart
Bangai-O
Earthbound
Lufia 2
Quackshot Starring Donald
Re: Virtual Boy Confirmed for Virtual Console
Dammit, I was excited for a moment then! I really want to play Wario Land VB
Re: Tetris is Coming to WiiWare - Online Play Included
I'll get this purely for online play. I'm willing to bet marathon mode will be too easy, ala Tetris DS.
Still, great news
Re: WiiWare interview - Plättchen Twist 'n' Paint (Bplus)
As one of the few mad infidels of the world with five bongos (Jungle Beat didn't have a no-bongos SKU ¬_¬), I think I'll have to get this just for the bongo support!
Re: EU VC Releases - 29th February - Super Turrican
Super Turrican rocks, and I've only just played it for the first time. Good release!
Re: Final Soldier
How does this compare to the other Soldier games?
Re: EU VC Releases - 1st February - Adventures of Lolo 2
In all fairness, I can see where Bass is coming from in the lack of variety. Still, if you like puzzlers, you'll love Lolo. Give it a chance, they're both great games
Re: Master System Games Coming to The VC!
The Master System beat the NES in Europe? I know it did well, but I didn't know it did that well.
Good news in any case I look forward to some Sega 8-bit!
Re: Do Re Mi Fantasy: Milon no DokiDoki Daibouken
Hmm, I wonder if we'll see this translated (aka Sin and Punishment) or left untouched (Mario's Super Picross)
Looks quite nice in any case And a sign of a new Hanabi festival!
Re: Japanese Virtual Console List - January 2008
1080!
That brings back memories. Good game, weird theme tune as well...
And the Phantasy Star games, I wouldn't mind getting into those some time
Re: Lords of Thunder
Blimey, that was quick!
I downloaded (And really like) GoT, is this better?
Re: Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

Now this is a surprise! Sort of anyway.
It's a great game, but I'd consider it the weakest of the three without hesitation. It has some nice ideas, but more often than not they don't really add anything to the game. Still a pretty charming game And it has references to Mario 64/Link!
Re: The Dynastic Hero
I'd actually quite like to play this, but I can't justify getting it after having Wonderboy in Monster World. It's an excellent game in any case
Re: VC Earns over $30 million so far
That's hardly bad, and I imagine that far outweighs the cost of putting the service and game roms together.
Good for them I say. Despite the slightly grumpy prices and woes here and there, I've been very happy with the VC I hope we get sales chart stuff as well (And beyond the top five, we all know the Mario games will (Deservedly) dominate those!)
Re: Adventures of Lolo
Gah, I didn't watch what it was from, but I've heard of that...
Either way, couldn't they have actually picked a bad game for that line?
Re: Monster Lair
Shame really, I loved both Dragon's Curse and Monster Land on the Virtual Console, I'd like to have another game in a similar vein to those two.
Let's all collectively wish for a translated Monster World IV!

Re: Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
...Err, he's wearing a shirt
Re: Tetris Attack
I love Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack/Puzzle League! I'll probably get this, if only to have the Yoshified version of the game
I'd prefer this to the Pokémon version on N64, as I had that version but not this.
Re: TMNT increases in price for Europe
I think it's been that price for a good few months here.
Re: Ys Book I & II
I think my inner Japanophile will ensure I get this!
Has it aged well? It looks quite dated from the video, but I can't say no after all these positive responses! =)
Re: Streets of Rage 3

Re: Ecco Jr.
Haha, wow, I played through and completed this in a night on the Mega Drive Collection. I'm not quite sure what drove me to do it until the end!
Nice simple fun I guess, but not the sort of thing you'd want to pay much for on its own.
Re: Art of Fighting
Hoho, I was hoping Dan would get mentioned in the article =D
Anyway, I'll pass on this I think. I like fighters, but this seems pretty average, and I get the impression it'd be better to wait for future iterations.
Re: Bubble Bobble
Is the NES version good?
I loved the arcade game on the Taito Legends compilation, so I'll more likely than not pick this up. Superb game =)
Re: Super Thunder Blade
Blimey, one star seems a little harsh!
But to be fair, my three star score was probably too fair. Not a brilliant game at all, and not worth 800 points, but it has a little bit of playability!
Re: Fatal Fury
I don't know if I really like the art style of the game, but I'll probably get it, being a new 'fan' of 2D fighters these past few months or so.
I love the 80's esque box-art as well XD 55 megs!
Re: Adventures of Lolo 2
Blimey, I nearly had a heart attack when I saw this on the Coming Soon page.
This can't come soon enough, I loved the first Lolo, but it's been completed a while, meaning I want more puzzles to plough through!
Re: Shining Force
