Great article - really informative. I'm kind of tempted to hunt for Sonic Gems Collection so I can play Sonic R and CD. I'd also like to use this space to profess my love for the Sonic R soundtrack. I've never even played the game, but I have the soundtrack on my iPod. I think that says it all. Richard Jacques is a god among men!
@Link79 I'm playing through GX again at the moment and it's not unlocking the AX tracks that's the biggest hurdle - it's beating the story mode stages on Very Hard to unlock the AX racers. Some of the events are impossibly hard! Anyway, I think I'll pass on this. It looks decent - the graphics look amazing for Wii Ware! - but kind of clone-y so I'll stick with GX for my high speed fix.
Interesting article. I like having a physical copy of my games because it feels more "solid". It can't ever be taken away from me. Unlike if my Wii was ever to break down all my VC and Wii Ware games would be lost forever. However, for handheld gaming especially, being able to download and store games on the console itself is a massive advantage. After all, who wants to have to carry around 20 carts when they could all be stored on internal memory? Although I buy my DS games to support my favourite series, I do also own a flashcart - just because of the convenience that it brings whenever I want to take my DS anywhere. Why carry around all my games when they can all fit on a 2GB SD card? Home gaming is another matter, but certainly for portable play I think digital downloads are the way forward.
@theblackdragon yeah, I don't see why they couldn't have released a version of the game in Sweden with the ages changed to 18. The thing is though, it's a fighting game, not a porno movie. They may be wearing skimpy costumes, but so do swimmers and gymnasts at the Olympics. Say there was an athlete who was 17 years old? Would that be classed as child pornography?
quite ridiculous. Imagine if the developers open up the rom, change a single figure in the game to "18" - now it can be released!? It's not like they're real people ffs!
we can only hope that the Ace Attorney fan base is hardcore enough to pull together and produce an unofficial fan translation like happened with Mother 3. I was looking forward to this game too...
Just started playing this again for the first time since it originally came out. Really loving it so far. The graphics are beautiful and I also don't mind the sailing. What's wrong with having a vast, unexplored ocean to explore!? - it's wonderful! Just a shame that they rushed the release and took out 2 dungeons. Nintendo never usually do that type of thing either... Wonder why they did with Wind Waker. It definitely makes the game that bit less perfect
@21 No, Nintendo don't need Rare anymore, you're right, but Rare need Nintendo. Imagine it. Nintendo wouldn't have them making dull Kinect sports games - they'd be allowed to work on Banjo Kazooie etc again!
The original Classic Controller is basically the same thing, just with analogue sticks, so it's kind of unnecessary but It's an awesome collectable though so I'd like one for that reason alone! Shame they just don't sell them in shops.
@Zack Wii is my only current-gen console. I just don't like having to settle for an inferior version, but as long as the differences aren't too stark it's not an issue - thanks for the info
I'm quite interested in this since I could never wrap my head around the Smackdown vs Raw controls. The last wrestling game I enjoyed was Day of Reckoning 2 on the Gamecube, and in the absence of a DoR 3, I should maybe check this out. I do have some Gamestation store credit lying around... Is it significantly inferior to the PS3/ 360 versions? This would be my only concern
I love being a part of this community - the best place on the internet for comprehensive Nintendo information in the one place. Everything is so easy to find - the layout is top notch in my opinion and it's so cleanly laid out and visually appealing to look at as well.
@Sneaker13 'Y' to attack definitely was mentioned - you must have been skipping the text in your eagerness to play Anyway, definite day one purchase for me. I'm so impressed by how similar to the original Okami they seemed to have made it, despite it being on a less powerful system. Can't wait!
I can't accept that Nintendo can't emulate the Super FX Chip when unofficial emulators have no problem running games like Yoshi's Island and Starfox. They need to stop being so lazy when it comes to the VC! I also agree that we need to see more third-party N64 games, starting with Goemon of course!
There isn't anything there that's going to convince me to part with £250 on day one. I still don't understand why Pokemon White and Black aren't 3DS launch titles - that would have been a system shifter!
It's almost like they've decided not to release it at the last second - with the result that some copies have slipped through anyway. I excpect this game will become very rare as a result but I'm not really interested in it anyway so I won't bother picking it up.
I just realised it's almost 6 years since the DS came out. ;_; I can still remember going into Game when it had just come out and having the sales guy ask me if I was interested. I also remember thinking games like Polarium looked cool!
The DS certainly isn't dead for me - I've already bough Ghost Trick this month and will be picking up Okamiden and Pokemon White in March. I think the last time I picked up 3 DS games in 1 year was back in 2007! It's annoying that Gamestation won't be stocking Okamiden though because I have some store credit that I need to use. Finally, Inazuma 11 is a strange one. The problem I have with it is that it's too wacky looking and I'd rather just play a normal football game, while gamers who are into JRPGs often tend not to like football (sorry for stereotyping but...) so they will ignore it too.
pretty cool, although I'd be much more interested if there was a better range of colours available. For example, I'd much rather have a blue Sega t-shirt than a black one or a white Segata Sanshiro. I don't really like wearing black t-shirts.
I'm also a member of the Christmas 1997 Nintendo 64 Club. It was the first time I'd ever been hyped up for a console, and I had to wait all the time from it's release in March til Christmas - while all the magazines tormented me with their previews and coverage of all the great new games. I can totally identify with the N64 kid because the N64 was built up to be the most important thing in the world, ever. On Christmas Day I received Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing and Wave Race 64. good times were had!
seems like quite a tricky game to review because, as you say, there's no doubting the quality of the games themselves, it's just that there could have been so much more. So do you give it 10/10 for the great games included, or 5/10 for being lazy? In the end, I think the 5/10 is fair, although I'll still be picking this one up because I'm a sucker - even to a cheap cash-in like this!
@AcidFox yeah there is a 3 and 4 player mode, but like you say it has to be unlocked and requires a cheat code of sorts to activate it. Seeing as it's kind of a secret bonus mode I didn't mention it in the review, but oh well the cat's out of the bag now!
@MeloMan my personal favourite tracks in the game are Ryugu Castle and Mokeke Forest - truly epic!
the funny thing is, no one would ruin their palm anywhere near as much using the classic controller or gamecube controller because they're rubber coated. The reason the N64 did so much damage was because it was solid, hard, ridged plastic.
the Stuart Campbell N64 magazine article was interesting and a good laugh! - I love how the THE Games guy just flat out denied that PAL games ran slower! I'd love to have a shot on his magical full speed PAL copy of Wave Race! Anyway, it never bugged me back in the 90s because the PAL games were all I'd ever known, so to me they weren't slowed down, they were running at normal speed. Ignorance was bliss, but nowadays it'd be unacceptable as I now appreciate the difference.
Nintendo are honestly the most lazy company ever when it comes to stuff like this. My SNES copy of All-Stars is 50Hz as well, so I've never known anything better, but it's still annoying. Lazy hounds!
@32 - differences in refresh rate on a handheld? wtf am I reading.jpg

Re: Rumour: The Mercenaries 3D to be Recalled in Australia
Capcom reap what they sow with this one. What a ridiculous decision to not allow people to delete their own data!
Re: Xenoblade's North American Release Chances Take a Knock
at least it will be translated into English due to the European release so anyone in North American who wants to play it badly can import it.

Re: Feature: The Sonic Games That Never Were
interesting article. I had never heard of most of these games, except of course the infamous Sonic X-Treme!
Re: Review: SSX Tricky (GameCube)
I remember getting this game back in summer of 2002 and playing the hell out of it. Great fun, and good review - especially the intro!

@Chrono_Cross I never knew that's what it was called in North America! What's wrong with "Sega Genesis Ultimate Collection"? - weird!

Shenmue/ Jet Set Radio 3D?
here's hoping!
Re: Nintendo Confirms E3 2011 Conference Details
I hate how it always starts at 5 - hardly enough time to get home from work!

Re: Nintendo Wants More Developers Like Retro Studios, Please
Nintendo should buy back Rare! They're doing nothing of value at Microsoft. The time is right!

I hope they make a Donkey Kong Country 2 Returns, complete with remixed music from the original.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Heading to Europe This Year
I'm not a big RPG fan but it's still nice to see that an obviously good-quality game is going to be available to more people
@Cyrus the DS is region-free so at last you could just import Last Window
Re: Pokémon Black and White
has anyone heard any news on possible pre-order bonuses? Like the figurines that were on offer with Heart Gold and Soul Silver?

Re: UK Gamers Get to Celebi at GAME Stores this Month
I'll probably head to the Glasgow event though annoyingly Glasgow Fort isn't even in an easy to reach part of the city
Re: Features: 10 Sega Games We Want on 3DS
as you can probably tell from my Avatar, I'm a massive Shenmue fan.
Would be amazing to see it on 3DS. Jet Set Radio also. 2 classic games.

Re: Europe's 3DS Launch Line-Up According to Gamestation
@Oregano That would seem to be a fairly standard price for the console + 1 game. Do you know where you can get me a better deal?
Re: Europe's 3DS Launch Line-Up According to Gamestation
There isn't anything there that's going to convince me to part with £250 on day one.
I still don't understand why Pokemon White and Black aren't 3DS launch titles - that would have been a system shifter!
Re: Nintendo: Inazuma Eleven Not Officially Launched in the UK
my prediction: The UK release eventually gets cancelled altogether and those carts that did slip out become SUPER rare!
Re: Japan Getting Online Multiplayer for a Virtual Console Title
this sort of thing shouldn't even be uncommon, but for some reason Nintendo are just so stubburn on certain fronts
Re: Proof that Inazuma Eleven Really Is Out in the UK
It's almost like they've decided not to release it at the last second - with the result that some copies have slipped through anyway. I excpect this game will become very rare as a result but I'm not really interested in it anyway so I won't bother picking it up.

@Super Sonic - I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to import video games from other countries...
Re: MUDDS Won't Be Making a Splash on DSiWare After All
@Sakura_Moonlight2421
Clearly not, or the game wouldn't be canned!
By the way, is it appearing on any other formats or is that it completely dead?
Re: Rumour: The D in DSi May Soon Stand for "Discontinued"
I'm still using my white DS Lite. I never really saw the major appeal of the DSi. A camera and DSi Ware wasn't enough to convince me to upgrade.
Re: Interview: Geek Prints - Retro Video Game Clothing
pretty cool, although I'd be much more interested if there was a better range of colours available. For example, I'd much rather have a blue Sega t-shirt than a black one or a white Segata Sanshiro. I don't really like wearing black t-shirts.

Re: Sega's 3DS Line-Up May Include Some Old IP Revivals
Seeing Shenmue on the 3DS screen almost gave me a heart attack! don't do that to me!
Re: Ubisoft Sticks It to Michael Jackson: The Experience DS Pirates
doesn't really seem like the sort of game that your average pirate would download anyway, but very creative nonetheless!
