I honestly think this is one of the best games on WiiWare. I love a 2D platformer and I like how this one is all about skill, timing your jumps and quick reactions. I agree with the point about not knowing whether some scenery is in the background or an obstacle though - that IS annoying! I'm only 10 levels in but going for 100% socks on each level will probably be a massive challenge - which I also like
I could never wrap my head around the twin battle system anyway. Didn't it have some of setting where the top screen would just play itself if you didn't want to take? I was always too busy concentrating on the action on the touch screen.
it's totally missing the point though, in my opinion. The Wii U darn-well SHOULD look just as good as the PS3/ 360 - they're 7 year-old technology!!! We all know what's going to happen: New iterations of the PS and Xbox will be released within a couple of years and Nintendo will be left behind again. Sorry to be negative, but all these "Wii U looks just as good as PS3" news reports irk me!
interesting, but if you don't know anything about programming it doesn't mean a lot. it could do with a bit more explanation for the unenlightened among us. For example, what does it all mean? (i.e. this system was easy to develop for... this one was hard... this one had bad textures etc...)
hard to argue with any of the criticisms, but for all it's faults something about this game is so inexplicably compelling. good review and a fair score I think
Sega don't give most of their IPs enough attention anyway. I don't see how this will make any difference. All we get is Sonic game after Sonic game (at least they've been good recently though!)
Rare were so great back in the day. Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye, Conker's BFD... They put so much effort into all of their games. It's a shame what became of them... Forced to content themselves with developing a tragic Wii Sports rip-off
Weren't the VC Sonic games horrible 50Hz ports anyway? You'd be better of just buying Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube - less money than buying them all seperately and it's in glorious full-speed.
that's awesome! I actually have Seaman and the Dreamcast mic. It's a very bizarre little novelty of a game. I actually haven't played it for a couple of years and I'm too scared to go back and load my save because no doubt my Seaman will have succumbed by now to a horrible death!
@TheChosen I actually like the layout of the Wii store. You can search for VC games for example based on genre or original console. The PS3 store is far more complicated to navigate.
looks like Nintendo is once again going to be trailing a generation behind in terms of processing power - which is very frustrating because it means we'll miss out again on loads of great third party multi-plats. Add a stupid looking controller into the mix and I'm not enthusiastic
I recently went from playing on a CRT to a 19" HD television, and I've been playing DKC 2 and not really noticed the difference, other than the image being slightly stretched to fit the new wider screen. Oh well, I think I'm more of an audiophile - I can put up with fuzzy or stretched graphics but if the speakers are too tinny then I have a problem! I had to hook up PC speakers to my new TV cos the built in ones weren't cutting it!
@md1500 It's not a hostage situation! I'm sure Nintendo have no problem with their fans letting them know which games they'd like to play. After all, they don't HAVE to release certain games just because their customers say so, although campaigns like Rainfall may certainly help to persuade them that it's worthwhile.
@SpaceKappa Wasn't that an all-new game though rather than a straight port? I've still got my SNES anyway, so doesn't matter either way to me!
Anyway, I'm sure Virtual Console can't be dead, because it will certainly be a feature of the Wii U - and if they're releasing old games on Wii U, they might as well be available to buy on the Wii Shop as well, because it's not like retro games will only be able to run on Wii U!
@SpaceKappa That's one possible explanation, but I've played Yoshi's Island on a Super Nintendo emulator in the past, so if that can handle it, I'd like to think Nintendo could emulate it on Wii with no problems!
@biddenden_sue They were great games no doubt, but since the GB connectivity was so incremental to the whole experience, it wouldn't really make sense on VC without some way to hook up your old Red/Blue/Yellow cart.
after playing the demo, it's pretty much the ultimate F Zero GX clone, even in terms of little things like the way the camera pans around before the race. However, if Nintendo aren't going to give us a new F-Zero, then no harm in other developers copying it! I'm glad you can use the nunchuck as well because I found the motion controls a little too imprecise for this type of game
had a quick go of the demo and I agree that the handling is poor (why do i slide to a near stop at each corner) and the music is generic as hell and far too laid back to fit the frantic nature of a racing game
After playing the demo, it's definitely an entertaining enough game and the graphics are quite charming although it's certainly an Ikaruga rip-off and it feels to me like the developers were trying almost too hard to make it seem Japanese and Anime-esque, but it's immediately evident that it's not actually Japanese at all - that title screen is horrible!
@winter123 some Gamecube games still look amazing. I played Wind Waker not that long ago and you could never tell it's 8 years old. The same goes for games like Mario Sunshine and Rogue Leader - they look better than a lot of Wii games!
I feel bad for not buying this because I'd like to see it do well and get released in North America as a result, but I just can't get my head around anything other than the most simple of RPGs...
Fair enough if early adopters of the system get the games slightly earlier, but I think it would be unfair to deny certain games to people forever. I don't feel like getting a 3DS right now, but what if I feel like it in a year's time? I'll have already missed out on these games forever! poor
@Mickeymac Why do you doubt it's true, when it's coming straight from the mouth of someone at Nintendo of America? :S Anyway, I think she probably did mean VC, because why would old games be on Wii Ware? Would be cool to see Gamecube games up for grabs, although I still play my Cube games anyway, so doesn't mean much to me personally. Also, when the Gamecube back catalogue is available to download as 'retro', it means you're getting officially old
this is actually quite a cool idea - as long as the exectution is good. It definitely beats another iteration of Smackdown vs Raw x 16543123 New ideas and a bit of creativity and imagination should always be encouraged IMO
at least if they come out in Europe, North Americans can import, and vice versa. If they come out in Japan only everyone is screwed as the language will not be translated at all.

PS - the soundtrack is awesome
Re: Kirby's 20th Anniversary Special Collection Doesn't Suck
I've never owned a Kirby game in my life, so this seems like it could be the ideal starting point!
Re: Kore Gang Publisher Needs Your Money for a Re-Release
wait, so this isn't a Wii Ware game? Wow - I haven't ever heard of it before now and going by the reviews, it looks like I haven't missed anything.
Re: MDK2 Dev Will Never Develop for Nintendo Again
Nintendo need to stop treating 3rd party developers with contempt if Wii U is truly going to be a success. Unfortunately, I can't see it happening
Re: Fan Documentary Explores Ocarina of Time Development
I was watching this the other day. It's really informative and well put together for a fan-made documentary. well worth a watch!
Re: Namco, Capcom and SEGA Secret Countdown Starts
sounds like a crossover fighter to me, although I'm disappointed to hear it's a 3DS game - I don't really like handheld gaming
Re: SEGA to Cancel Games, Focus on Existing IP

Re: SEGA AM2's First 3DS Project is Not Virtua Fighter
Even though I know better than to hope, for a second, the slightest part of me wanted to believe it was a new Shenmue

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
good game and I had fun beating it, but probably the worst 3D Zelda ever.
Re: Hironobu Sakaguchi Tours UK to Promote The Last Story
aww only one event? When it said "tours" I had the mental image of him wandering from town to town, Wii in-hand, spreading word of his game!
Re: Rumour: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Sequel for 3DS and Wii U
I liked the first game but the lack of a Shenmue track was annoying. A sequel with more tracks and characters would be great!
Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword Misses Wii's 2011 Top Five
to be fair, it was released right at the end of 2011.
Also, I'm 3 temples in and it's not exactly blowing me away

@stromboli - might as well play it now that you've paid for it anyway! You might actually enjoy it!
Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword Available for £24.99 in UK
Great price but no good to me since I need the gold remote bundle because I don't have motion plus.

Re: It's Official: Xenoblade Chronicles is Coming to North America
not my type of game at all, but I'm glad to see that the pleas of so many people who wanted to play it didn't fall on deaf ears at Nintendo.

there's a Mario Party 9!?

what biggies are we still waiting for?
-Yoshi's Island?

any other obvious ones I've missed?

how long til protestors turn up and try to occupy Boom Street?
Re: Unreleased N64 Game Glover 2 Surfaces Online
why is it that the Nintendo 64, more than any other console, always seems to yield the most intruiging beta material?
Re: Review: Mickey's Speedway USA (Nintendo 64)
I always thought this game was really bland, but maybe I'll give it another go one day
Re: Feature: Star Fox - Pioneering 3D Shoot-em-ups Since 1993
this is maybe the one game that makes me wish I had a 3DS.
I freakin' loved the original on N64!
Re: After 25 Years, The NES Gets A New Magazine
A cool idea, but from a personal nostalgia point of view, I'd like to see the same idea applied to SNES and N64

Re: Tales of Graces Wii Will Not Be Released In the West
so the PS3 version is already translated, but the Wii version won't be.
That makes no sense.
Just as well I have no interest in this game otherwise I'd be mad.
