Re: Riot Games Reportedly Cancels Smash Bros. Style Fighter Codenamed 'Pool Party'

HunteROB

Late but I guess nobody else noticed this... "The Super Smash Bros. series is the king of brawlers" - I think you mean platform brawlers/fighters.
Personally I only cared for the Japanese-developed Smashlikes that were similarly based on video game properties e.g. DreamMix TV, Onimusha Blade Warriors, Digimon Rumble Arena. I also would feel slimy just hearing about this - I really dislike mobas and their seemingly inescapable popularity, which has been seeping into the world of video games at large.

Re: Poll: What Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 6 DLC Racer Are You Most Excited About?

HunteROB

I'm happy about Pauline.I would like for Nintendo to bring in Foreman Spike and Stanley as well, but it's good to see them normalize their strange past human characters at all.

Funky and Diddy are cool too, should have been in the original Wii U version honestly. I was hoping to see them include costumes, but they can build a better system with those in the next game (where they're not treated as separate characters).

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Admit That F-Zero X Is The Best F-Zero

HunteROB

I decided that X is the best (never really thought about it much before) based not only on points brought up here that I agree with, but something that should be irrelevant to this type of game: story.

Now I know what you're thinking; F-Zero-X had no story! GX had all those insane interviews with all the racers and even something close to a story mode with Captain Falcon. The truth of the matter is that these aspects are poorly done in GX. The characterization is more trash than even your average Saturday morning cartoon based on a video game (the Zelda one comes to mind).

This matters to me because I dream of an action game starring Captain Falcon, something that marries his incredible moves in Smash to his driving in F-Zero. For that game to work I think you'd have to ignore most of the mess added by GX and build from the great foundation of characters provided by X. If anybody ever even thought about making this at Nintendo, they probably forgot about it after attempting to reconcile the information provided by GX and getting a headache. Platinum would be a top choice to make the game, and even though their stories are often also incomprehensible, they would likely do a better job of wrangling such a large roster of characters into an exciting overall story than GX did. They'd have to start with X. /endrant

Re: Poll: What's The Worst Legend Of Zelda Game?

HunteROB

The people voting for Zelda II have anger-induced tunnel vision. That, or haven't played Tri Force Heroes solo at all.

I personally wouldn't have bought the Game & Watch without it, and I wish they had made a game in that style back when they did smaller scale development for their handheld consoles. Now on the Switch it'd get backlash from these kinds of people and just get lost in the shuffle, unfortunately.

It really deserves better for all the new things it brought to the table.

Re: Weirdness: A New Animation is Found in Super Mario Bros. 3

HunteROB

Oh, Supper Mario Broth was funnier when I thought it was the inter-sectional coincidence of both Supper being a typo and Broth being a result of squished border dimensions.

I didn't know about this, but I've also spent very little time with the Hammer Bros. suit in this particular game and assumed you'd be able to slide with it anyways.

Re: Konami Denies That It Is Walking Away From AAA Game Development

HunteROB

What could they possibly do with Castlevania with no Igarashi after LoS2 happened? I guess they could outsource development to an indie developer, or else it would take some real insanity to make another 3D entry in the series. After they inevitably remake Metal Gear 1 and 2, nobody will accept a Metal Gear without Kojima - at least one starring Snake.

Re: Talking Point: Retro Gamers Beware, PAC-MAN 256 Could be a Template for Nintendo's Smart Device Future

HunteROB

Crossy Road is a much better version of classic Frogger than Konami could have possibly put out. I expect this to be the same. You make it sound as if you're out of touch, but it just sounds like you can no longer enjoy the simple pleasures of early 80's arcade games. While I could care less about Flappy Bird, I think it's a good sign that kids these days or what have you can enjoy something like Crossy Road.

Touchscreen are best to take inspiration from the simplest arcade games, because they should be the kind of thing you can play for 10 seconds and shut off if you feel like it, and still receive some level of enjoyment. Nothing can be complicated because - who are we kidding - the controls suck. Virtual joysticks and buttons are a nightmare. Nintendo would do well to follow this example instead of trying to port Super Mario Bros. straight up how it is to an iPhone.

Re: Nintendo Disables Swapnote's SpotPass Service Due to Online Safety Concerns

HunteROB

This really bums me out. I stopped using Spotpass with friends, thought it was fun when I did - but it was still really special to get letters from people like Miyamoto, Tanabe and Reggie. It felt personal - I had experienced nothing like that through any other way someone from the industry could communicate to me. Swapnote showed me exactly how the man who created Mario and Zelda wrote me a letter! Where else am I gonna find that?

Re: Nintendo Will Be "Careful" About The Artistic Direction Of Zelda In The Future

HunteROB

I don't think Twilight Princess' art style was "tame". There's a lot of things the art style affects. The enemies and Midna and everything from the Twilight realm looked pretty unique, but the human characters looked like they succeeded the looks of humans in Ocarina of Time. Skyward Sword was kind of tame, in that it was kind of middling between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. It didn't end up looking like its own thing.

I think however, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were almost as realistic as it could possibly be on the hardware it came out on; with all these really unique, subtle touches that separate it from anything else trying to look realistic. I'd like to see them approach the next game like that again. Or if they could make a game that looks anything like Zelda II (in-game, not the artwork) that would be pretty awesome.

Re: Nintendo Has A Sense Of Humour About Poor 3DS Battery Life

HunteROB

I never really have problems with the battery life on the regular 3DS. When I bring it somewhere I'm never going to play it constantly for hours at a time unless I'm on a trip. Portable games are made to be played in spurts, and there's no reason to be furious at a portable console for the same thing.
