Re: Pikmin 3 Almost Had Four Heroes And Could Have Appeared On Handhelds

Grubdog

I'm so glad it ended up on Wii U, using the GamePad and the Wiimote + Nunchuck is absolutely amazing. It would be nice to see on 3DS just for the 3D effect, I think having plants pop out in 3D could help bring it to life even more. But Miyamoto's right, they'd have to change the gameplay because the precision in Pikmin 3 is incredible.

4 heroes is hard to imagine as well, it would get a bit convoluted to have 3 people throwing each other and have 4 different platform heights for that reason alone. It wouldn't make much sense.

Obviously Dyltheman said it all best though. Look forward to his detailed opinion on future topics.

Re: SEGA Is Hoping To Win Back Platforming Fans With Sonic Lost World

Played Sonic Lost World at PAX and it does feel more like a Mario game. Not in the gameplay sense, but with the amount of polish and precision with the controls. The run button really helps, it's still a fast game but measured. Really excited about this, it looks to be the perfect evolution of Sonic that should have happened 15 years ago.

Re: Soapbox: Why Region Locking Is A Total Non-Issue

Grubdog

Not many people do it because they can't. Very simple, I have dozens of DS and PS3 games from the US and Japan and enjoy them a lot. You don't, seriously? Maybe you're not as active a gamer as you think you are, that's OK. Half my DS collection is from the US and I live in Australia.

The world is becoming more disconnected and that's my biggest issue, having to change my identity to play a game. Having different names for SwapNote / Nintendo Letter Box. It's gone too far.

I have a lot of Americans on my 3DS playing Etrian Odyssey 4, and I can't even buy it.

Re: Fan Campaign Starts for Princess Zelda to be Given a "Stronger" - Perhaps Playable - Role

Mother of god. Everything has a bloody campaign this year. It also seems like a lot of people haven't played Spirit Tracks.

This is annoying, the whole campaign undermines her current importance. She motivates Link to save the world just by existing, how can you top that power? Link can't be a true hero with all this guidance, he has to feel alone and face his own challenges. And yes, LINK IS THE HERO. Deal with it.

Re: Review: BUGS vs. TANKS! (3DS eShop)

Grubdog

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. It's a shame because I'm absolutely in love with the concept and the 3D effect is really cool, showing plants and bugs like they're huge monstrosities popping out of the screen. But the gameplay is basically "hold shoot, and don't miss a single shot, ever". I'm stuck on a certain mission and it seems like I've done everything possible and just can't progress. I'm glad this review echoes my thoughts so I don't have to do one hah. Switching to Easy is demoralising and still doesn't live up to the dictionary definition of "easy".

One thing I disagree on is the lack of direction in missions, I enjoyed exploring and figuring out the route. It's the core gameplay mechanics that just never go anywhere. Did you beat every mission? It's stupidly hard.

Re: Aqua Moto Racing 3D Hopes to Make Waves in the eShop on 27th June

@Mr_Vengeance agreed, it's incredibly frustrating. Especially when every other racing developer is doing it wrong right now, we need Nintendo. Nintendo's Mario Kart team is apparently full of real racing enthusiasts so it's a surprise they don't make more (though MK8 looks stunning, physics and all)

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Aim to Produce Mature, Genre-Defining Storytelling Experiences

Grubdog

Something doesn't have to be realistic to give you real feelings. I felt more connected to a lost Nopon in Xenoblade than some little girl solely created to appeal to my emotional strings.

Nintendo's strength is in creating original worlds with their own unique characters and musical compositions that couldn't exist in a Naughty Dog ghetto movie backdrop. To ignore those enormous strengths for the Game of the Month #6 is just insulting to videogames and ignores everything that makes them great in the first place.
