Re: Poll: What's The Best 3D Sonic Game?

3D Sonic... They still can't quite get it right. Just about all of the 3D Sonics have issues, many of them major. They are still fun, just don't expect a 8/10 game.

I think the issue is that it isn't so much the speed that makes 2D Sonic fun, it is the use of momentum, and gaining momentum to reach certain areas. Unfortunately, this is doesn't work in 3 dimensions, so they just make very linear areas to run fast in.

I'm not sure what Sega should do. I personally think that they should make a slower, more exploration based platformer, with some puzzles where rolling into a ball is needed.

I know I am going off topic, but I feel that I should mention that they created a hedgehog so that attacking and jumping is the same thing, making the controls simpler. Perhaps they should go back to the very initial ideas in order to make a new, very different, 3D Sonic.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. I love Sonic... but many of the games have been very disappointing, and I'm not sure how to feel about what was once a competitor to Mario becoming cosmetic items in a free to play game. Hopefully it shows Sega that there is interest in the hedgehog still and they make another Sonic game (hopefully free of any terrible jokes or excessive story).

Maybe this will get me to give Ninjala a go again.

The eshop really needs some work. It is so difficult to find new games without having heard of them elsewhere. Perhaps a sort of "highlights" every month or something. Perhaps user reviews would be good too, but that could very easily go bad (like Metacritic) . Maybe just ratings then, like the 3DS. A lot of people forget that the news articles do help to promote games.

Super Paper Mario. Excellent blend of genres, and a great story. Quite possibly one of my favourite games ever. I did really enjoy the first one as well, I remember getting it during the summer holidays and playing it all day only to finish it in a few days. Loved the little sections between chapters where you controlled Princess Peach.
Still working on Thousand Year Door, haven't had the time to finish it yet. It seems really good too, but I don't find the setting quite as appealing for some reason. Can't judge it much because I haven't even got halfway yet. I haven't played any of the others.

@rdm22 it isn't, it is made up of many separate but connected areas. Great game still, and there is plenty of exploration within the areas (some of which are still quite large and non linear)
