Well here's something we weren't really expecting any time soon...a new Kirby game! And the listing for it is live, so all we need now is an official announcement from Nintendo.
As spotted by multiple Twitter users, it looks like Nintendo has accidentally revealed Kirby Fighters 2 - exclusively for the Switch - ahead of schedule. It's listed as a downloadable title on the Play Nintendo website and is priced at $19.99 USD.
With a name like this, it's obviously a follow-up to the 2014 battle action 3DS title, Kirby Fighters Deluxe. Here is Nintendo's description:
Choose from a cast of Kirby's most iconic copy abilities-including the brand-new Wrestler ability-and duke it out to be the last Kirby standing. Familiar friends and foes like Bandana Waddle Dee and King Dedede also make an appearance as playable characters in the Kirby Fighters 2 game, available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch system.
What do you make of this listing? Would you be interested in playing a Kirby Fighters sequel? Did you play the deluxe version? Tell us down below.

Heard about that, hoping it's true.
The only Kirby game I want a sequel to is Kirby's Air Ride!
accident my foot haha
I'm so going to buy this.
Yes please. We enjoyed the first game in our household
Nintendo is the best leaker for Nintendo games.
I have a feeling this will be so much better than the first because it cost money, so it should be much more flushed out. Or at least that's what I'm hoping ;P
Bleh, we need a proper 3d kirby game.
... $19.99...
Doesn't that near enough confirm it as fake? ๐
It is still listed
......Meh.
insert more than Meh and a few dots because NL sucks
Nintendo shadow dropping games now: "Well lets just put it on our website."
That's cool and all but now I can't help but wonder how Nintendo was planning to reveal the game. A Twitter post, a trailer on YouTube or in a Direct?
20 bucks isn't bad at all, my kids love Kirby, so this seems to be a good purchase. Never did buy the "regular" Kirby game for Switch. I feel 60 bucks is a bit steep for a platformer they sort of already played, but 20 bucks for a brawler sounds good to me.
Would make sense as it would have bin the traditional Kirby game for the year
Yaaaaaawn, I want a big and robust retail Kirby again. A really great one like planet Robobot or Kirby mass attack. Doesn't HALL have inspiration for new lore or great level-design? Or are they only going for the easy money nowadays?
Well that's great news for that HUGE demographic of people who love Kirby games AND fighting games...
Might as well develop a new F-zero, Pilotwings, Mario/Luigi RPG or Wave Race. ROFLMAO! What am I even saying! Hahahahahahaha!
@Totakekeke thank you for mentioning my most favourite series in gaming. RIP F-Zero, Wave Race and Mario and Luigi RPG. (I still have some hope for Pilotwings).
@beazlen1 @Totakekeke
They should bring Pilotwings 64 to NSO! Actually, Nintendo should do a lot of things. We can dream...
Kirby Fighters Deluxe was something I always condemned as being "too late" to be an appetizer for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, but ended up buying and loving anyway.
I don't care if I own Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already - slap a budget price on it (seven euros will do the trick) and I'll buy it. It'll be a nice workaround for the fact I own Kirby Star Allies in physical format and will never see a drought long enough for me to gather the money needed to get it digital.
@Tandy255 I think itโs time for an updated Pilotwings that is compatible with the flight stick from vehicle labo. Pilotwings is one of their IPs that I think they should license it out. Imagine an open world Pilotwings based on a huge island or set of islands. You start the story mode looking at your empty trophy cabinet with your jeep outside your hut and a list of upcoming air events. You drive off to the first runway and get a novice licence then to compete. But to get to the other runways you have to explore either by jeep (Long range) or by plane (short range). Imagine runways in very different areas on this huge island or set of islands. Coastline, Jungle, Snow tundra, Mountain top helipad, Desert, Sea-based runway, runway inside the mountain ala Thunderbirds.
It's not purportedly up, it's still there.

Just select nintendo Switch from the drop down.
EDIT: Since remove sometime in the last 6 hours.
@shazbot Thanks, I've seen the listing myself now and have updated the story to reflect this.
I loved the first one, even if I didn't know anyone else who had the game. At least I know I can bring my Switch to play this with my brothers like I did with Shovel Knight Showdown. That price is a bit steep compared to the first game, but if nothing else, I can add it to my wishlist and wait for a price drop. Hope we get a Dedede's Drum Dash 2, or a Kirby's 3D Blast sequel that has a better title.
I'm gonna main Yo-Yo Kirby!
Why a sequel to a weak game?
@Totakekeke Your post makes absolutely no sense. Kirby games sells more than any of those franchises you mentioned and Kirby games are produced because Hal Laboratory exists and co-own the franchise with Nintendo.
@Ooyah eshop games from Nintendo always go between 15 and 20 dollars. Kirby games that launched on eshop only for 3ds were between 5 and 15 dollars.
Hopefully this isnt the Kirby game that was mentioned to have have started development last year! I'd like something more in line to the Wii games and the first 2 3DS games, the last Switch game felt quite bare! But hey, who knows maybe Fighters 2 will be great and not just an excuse to make money from micritransactions if this game has them...
@Daniel36 Yeah, would definitely not advise picking up Star Allies. I'm a huge Kirby guy, but I felt seriously burned after getting that game. I had it 100% complete in maybe 5, 6 hours? An extremely shallow experience, especially for the price, and patronizingly easy. I can't imagine it would hold your kids' attention for long.
Maybe it is time for something new for Kirby. How about Retro make Kirby Prime? A first person Kirby game where... er... OK, let's just get Kirby's Epic Yarn HD or something.
Yay! I liked the first one.
Whoopsie-gravy!
I'm in as long as it's not a free to play game. Just give us the game and all content for a decent price.
Meh.
I mean... I liked the first one. The Kirby formula lends itself to a fun fighting game. That's why Smash is pretty much already that.
But I didn't really have anyone to play the first one with, so I put it down soon after I unlocked everything. And 20 bucks seems a bit steep if all this adds is a few new stages and characters. I'm hoping for some new game modes, and something like the collectible trophies in Smash.
I mean I will definitely get this, because the Kirby series is one of my absolute favorites, and I already have every single Kirby game (and I mean it: even stuff like the Japan-only extremely rare Super Famicom version of Star Stacker, the Anniversary Collection, both versions of Epic Yarn, and all the digital-only games), but I hope I will get enough enjoyment out of my money. I mean it costs the third of a completely new game! It's the same amount of money as one of the 3D Mario games from 3D All-Stars! It's more expensive than Undertale, the retro-styled Bloodstained games, the Mega Man Legacy Collections, Blaster Master Zero, or many other great, content-filled games.
@Not_Soos Yeah, Star Allies is pretty short and easy, and some of the forced multiplayer elements are not great, but you gotta admit... The stuff they added later on are absolutely great, and it had easily the best version of the Arena ever.
Everything that comes out by nintendo (by accident lol) is part of their strategy. ๐คฃ Mouth to mouth commercial is free.
Yes Iโve played Fighters Deluxe. I like it waay more than Clash. Clash starts to feel pointless but Fighters is even better for me than Smash Bros, mostly because Iโm a serious puff head Iโll buy!
I never played the standalone version but I did play the one that came with Triple Deluxe/Robobot (I cant remember which) and thought it was alright. Glad that fans of it are getting a sequel though!
Now... Robobot 2 please Nintendo?
Where's Battle Royale 2?
@Not_Soos Yeah, that's what I thought. Basically any Kirby is like that.
I still vividly remember my first Kirby experience. It was running on a demo NES in one of those very large stores (like Harrods, I suppose, don't know the term) and a kid before me had managed to get to the final boss before I guess had to go again, so I picked up the joystick and well... beat the final boss in 3 minutes, haha.
It wasn't until years later that I discovered that the entire game was basically that easy. And so I am not a huge fan of the mainline series anyways. The DS one was cute though.
if this is the rumoured Kirby game that has been in development this is a huge dissapointmemt
I had an insane amount of fun with the first Kirby Fighters because I got it for my niece as well and we played co-op constantly. But it has been a good while since we got Star Allies and it was about as standard of a Kirby platformer as you could get so I'm hoping they've been working on the next oddball entry in the main series as well.
I never played the original, but I love kirby so I might pick this up.
I'm just waiting for Kirby to have his Super Kirby Galaxy moment. The most ambitious full 3D adventure they've ever attempted.
Masahiro Sakurai surely must be the director of such a project before he dies!!
Can they please make a sequel to mass attack
There's a lot of cool stuff going on here based on the icon and description alone. A new Wrestler ability? Magolor on the icon? Staff and Yo-Yo being among the additions? Sign me up.
@shazbot @Liam_Doolan I looked, clicked on everything, can't find it.
Not saying it wasn't there earlier, but you might want to update your article again before driving everyone bonkers.
And it's obvious why they haven't; announced Kirby Fighters 2 yet, they haven't announced the Switch DS yet. KF2, MHR, MHS2, the pieces are all starting to come together now bwa ha ha
Yep, Its a skip.
Kirbys my all time favorite can't get enough of the little guy! Excited for this release.
@Clyde_Radcliffe that would be amazing dude
@Sakaixx I've never played it but a few of these spin offs are definitely skips. Kirby clash was to much of a mobile game for me. But on the other hand sometimes there is games like mass attack one of the best on ds and kirbys epic yarn
Would there happen to be a.... source for this article? Because I was unable to find it on the Play Nintendo website. It seems like this random tweet is the only thing we are going off of here
I've played the Kirby Fighters DX unlocking everything(Shadow Kirby and alternate hats).
THIS... IS... AMAZING!!! I mean, I would've honestly ever settled for just an HD version of Kirby Fighters Deluxe, but to have a full-fledged priced sequel is just exciting news to me. I didn't know too many people that owned a 3DS, and those that did certainly didn't have this game, so I had to download a copy on my sister's 3DS so we could play it together.. so is so amazing because I was literally just telling my friend about this game (the 3ds one) just about a month ago... always thought that the Switch and it's default multi-player capabilities seemed like a good home for this game... always had a gripe that the 1st game (well, the Deluxe version, anyways) was very limited in ability selection considering ALL of Kirby's copy abilities (and yes, I know some wouldn't translate well to a fighting game to stand up to other abilities), but now that can all be mitigated... AND we get to play as other characters, as well!!!
YES! I loved the 3DS predecessor!
Hard to know if it's accidental or not, with Nintendo shadow-dropping game announcements with no fanfare lately. Miss when they had their own directs.
Seems like another project by HAL to hold folks off as they work on their next mainline title. If it has online then ill defiantly check it out.
@Daniel36 its an entry level series purposely designed that way
I hope this has a single-player component.
Downloaded title, you lost me, I only buy real physical copy games, we got enough kirby fighting in smash ultimate, we need a new kirby adventure game not another fighter
I donโt know when it happened, but it seems to be out now (US eshop).
$19.99
1.1GB
1-4 players
All the usual languages
It's now revealed and released.
