Why oh why are you guys still spotlighting the work of hackers? Yeah I get that the early Doom games have had their source code released but Doom 64 hasn't so you're basically covering this up to the point where people want to infringe copyrights to play N64 games on it.. Doesn't seem like a week goes by where this sort of crap isn't being highlighted again - doesn't smack professionalism does it.
Who is buying a £280 brand new console to play old games on it? I simply don’t understand... If you want SNES and NES games, surely a £20 DS Lite and R4 card is more cost / time efficient. So much crying over Virtual Console support, surely a potato can play old games in this day and age. Home brew I sort of get because it’s interesting to see what people code for the machine (much like the Dreamcast) but emulation is, and always has been a grey area leading often to piracy hand in hand.
I can confirm it’s made little-to-no difference! The game is still slow, the entrances are still botched and I’m more than a little annoyed at the state of play here. For real giggles, play 1 vs 1 as 1998 Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker and go about doing the housework because it’ll still be nowhere near time to face off in the squared circle when you return to the Switch. Risible.
I’m probably the only person who thinks this, but this sounds more like it’s going to be their side slogan for what’s already been released for the console, like an advert preview or sizzle reel, much like ‘Touch Generations’ back in the DS days... I don’t think this’ll be anything new.
I agree with doing this when the machine is dead, but a machine under a year old? Come on. Surely more sense to keep this on the Wii U and off the latest machine, although I’m sure many are screaming good intentions (as far as roms go, of course) but this will quite obviously be used for piracy on a contemporary scale without a doubt.
@Pigeon I beg to differ on Sonic Adventure 2, it was absolutely Sonic Team USA not the Sega Technical Institute whom developed it, in fact, Sonic Spinball was the only STI delveloped 90’s Sonic game. STI was headed by Mark Cerny and I’m pretty sure their last game under that name was Comix Zone in 1995 unless some obscure Pico game was developed by them.
Either way, it’s horses for courses, there were essentially 2 Sonic Teams, run separately no doubt like everything in Sega back then.
@Pigeon Sonic Adventure was well received on the Dreamcast, and actually is a decent game (in my opinion, yours differs)
Sonic Adventure 2 was made by Sonic Team USA if that’s what you mean? Some of the Japanese staff moved to the USA from Sonic Team Japan.
I think you'll find, you were trying to undermine what the reviewer was saying with false information, you 'assume' it wouldn't play PAL carts yet up on the first comment, you were sure it didn't play PAL carts .. "PAL games aren't supported through this console though so if you want to play games from that region you aren't getting it, just get the Classiq II 2-in-1, one of them crappy Retrons HD or the Gamerz Tek 2-in-1 HD if you want that"
Please, please don't spread false information and then get all tailspun when you get called out for it, you just repeated what the reviewer said pretty much point by point, so tell me what was the point in even leaving a comment when these people are professional reviewers. I don't need to try the system out - I listened to the review, it isn't for me, if you'll let the words speak for the system itself, please feel free not to add a half-baked amateur review in the comment section, yes?
They still make games for the Dreamcast! Sure they aren't licensed by Sega, by some of the games are mighty impressive, here's a shameless plug to one we covered on our Youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jqo2dO2UYw
@Yorumi No, I think that would be you. You just seem like you work for PC World or something, desperate to sell me on how your PC is so much better than the deal you get on consoles.
@Yorumi No, what you're expected is the sum of all similar parts to behave in the same way and thus should be treated all the same, the PC market and method of video game delivery has nothing to do with the games console business. You may very well sit there and draw parallels to what you think your self entitlement is or should be but paying for play online with video game machines isn't new and is widely excepted even if you feel people are blind to the underpinnings or whatever you're trying to sell us here.
The point still stands, online isn't cheap and shouldn't be given away by whoever is footing the bill for it, Christ, what next? You want free Broadband as part of your God-given right of being Human?
@Yorumi They aren't scamming me mate - I don't play online. I don't factor the PC into an discussion about competition, Nintendo are competing with Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo more than any company should charge for online since video games are the sole level of their income with side income from toys / merchandise from their franchises. What you're basically saying is that you expect something for nothing that comes at a price of someone else - I assume you probably stole Amiga games back in the 90's and pirate movies and music?
@Yorumi Why should they continue to offer a free service when the 'competition ' started charging years ago, online infrastructure isn't free, it isn't cheap either. At least this way people can vote with their wallets if the online service isn't providing and Nintendo can improve on that sort of feedback.
I bought it because the game was super-cheap and I've no intentions of playing it, I just like the character and really enjoyed the Gamecube game.
I think really if Nintendo were sticking to this route of platform based antics for Chibi, they should have included him in Smash Bros. first and introduced gamers to who the character is. Even better, America and PAL regions should have been given a translated version of the Japan-only DS title which I'm led to believe is more a direct sequel to the brilliant GC game.
Used to work for this company when they took Gamestation over, GS's failsafe was everything was done via credit notes in real time on the till system, Game Retail Group? Their failsafe was/is you'd lose your job.
Looking at the device, it's powered by a Y-cable USB.... That isn't good news for those who currently power a USB hard drive through their Wii U this way.
@ben- I don't, much like nobody knows if they actually will make any money on it. It's all very well saying Nintendo paid the last 2 Million to fund it, something a citation wouldn't go amiss on but don't forget how much Platinum have put into this game over it's production run, 40,000 copies isn't that great to be honest, and 24,000 for Fatal Frame, even less so, sure a game doesn't need to sell a million copies to be considered profitable / successful but less than 100,000 copies could certainly be seen as less than stellar.
Don't forget that Wii U games in particular don't stay in the charts for very long so it's entirely possible that Bayo 2 only sells 100,000 copies in it's lifetime in Japan. Fatal Frame and even Hyrule Warriors are in the same boat, a big company like Nintendo are used to ever-green selling titles like all those Wii and DS games that kept selling and selling, something I'm not seeing from the Wii U, at all.
Again, love the U, it's just the harsh reality of it.
@ben- I didn't bring Sony into it.... As far as I'm aware, losing money is the same which ever way you look at it. You could lose £1000 or £1,000,000 - if it's business, you're still not making the money required to keep a company successful in the long run.
I love the Wii U, I'm just saying that the proof is in the pudding that others don't.
Hmmm..... Things aren't looking particularly great for the Wii U are they? I really expected Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and Fatal Frame to boost the Wii U to Destiny PS4 launch week totals. People really don't like the Wii U and to be fair, without 3rd party support, who can blame them?
2015 I'm pretty sure brings no major 3rd party support to the machine and that leaves Nintendo just solely supporting their machine with Indies picking up the slack digitally, why Nintendo aren't co-publishing big titles and using Nintendo Direct to advertise the eShop indie stuff is just painful to watch.
I love my Wii U but I can also see when it's time to cut the lost cause, the 3DS is keeping Nintendo in a relatively safe position currently, but the home console? Could be time to ditch it and move on... I'm looking forward to Yoshi Yarn, Xenoblade, Star Fox and all the other glorious Nintendo games but I can't help but feel they would have a greater impact as launch titles for a new Nintendo home console rather than the Wii U that is just sucking resources and is pretty much Nintendo's 21st century Virtual Boy.
It could very well be coming to Wii U and that could be a double-sided poster, behind the poster is the Wii U section, isn't it? Also the colouring of blue is usually associated with Wii U and red for 3DS. - If I was to look too much into it / wishful think.
But yeah, chances are is isn't coming, pretty sure Capcom even said they weren't happy with bringing it to Wii U...
Mine was a generalized statement, mate. It was a blanket 'if it continues to increase year on year' not 'if it continues at the same YoY increase as the previous year.
I convinced two of my friends to go out and buy new Wii U's so I guess I have them to thank towards that uptake in sales. As long as the console keeps a year on year increase, it should be okay - nothing stellar; but okay, at least.
I'm not sure I totally agree with a lot of the statements that cite the Wii U selling terribly.... Sure, it doesn't sell half as well as Nintendo expected but Christmas has actually been quite kind to the U and there's no reason to think that it won't continue to tick over in the light of the software that's coming.
