A mysterious rating has appeared on the Australian Classification Board site for a Nintendo title by the name of NES Remix.
Listed as a "multiplatform" release — which would suggest both Wii U and 3DS — the game has been awarded a "G" rating, with the level of violence listed as having a "very mild impact".
What could this game be? Could we be seeing a retro-themed selection of games similar to those seen in Nintendo Land, or is Nintendo looking to re-release older titles from its 8-bit library in enhanced form — like it has done with the 3D Classics range on the 3DS eShop?
At this stage your guess is as good as ours, but it goes without saying that we'll be digging around and should we find any more information, we'll update this story accordingly.

I hope this isn't remix as in full priced NES games.... but some interesting remakes might be ok...
Epic pass
I'm quite intrigued by what this could be. I hope it has something to do with the rumoured "reUmagined" N64 games coming to Wii U. More old game remakes like WindWaker HD I say! I love WWHD, it's awesome
I prefer "NES un-remixed".
Urban Champion HD Super Ultra Edition with club-mix theme music cd?
@WiiLovePeace Oh yeah! I forgot about that news story from a few months back, wasnt it something like remaking n64 games in HD or was there mention of NES and SNES games being remade?
How come its only on the Australian Classification Board and not on the European, American or Japanese Classification board? (always wondered about this when things are rated in Australia)
@readyletsgo It was set to be just N64 titles in the reUmagined thing. That's if it's real & hasn't changed since we heard about it. NES Remix sounds like it could be a series of games to stand alongside the reUmagined thing. We'll see I guess.
Also, I think NES Remix appeared on the Aussie Classification site first because generally speaking the ACB are really slow on rating games I've seen. Nintendo knows this hence they've submitted it to them early-ish, expecting them to rate the game by a certain date that lands after Nintendo have announced it. But the ACB rated NES Remix quicker than expected hence the leak. If that made sense. That's my presumption.
@WiiLovePeace Cool dude, thanks for that, makes sense to me now.
Also the multiplatform bit doesn'mean anything. Nintendo always have them listed as multiplatform so they don't have to bother to classify them again if they get rereleased, like on a virtual console in 20 years.
"NES remix" could also mean music. perhaps some nintendo release that had its original music updated, but now changed back to NES sfx.
It would be cool if they were taking 8 bit game concepts and series and applying the Nintendo Land treatment to them. I think something like that would have recieved quite a bit more attention though.
I'm calling it now: a Space Invaders Extreme-esque makeover of NES titles.
The multiplatform bit means nothing, they label pretty much every game as multiplatform. My guess is something along the lines of a collection of NES titles redone along the lines of 3D Classics. But who knows, could be pretty good.
@ajcismo My dreams are finally becoming a reality!
You know what else would be nice? Some new games. Yeah, a weird idea but please consider, dear Nintendo.
This is interesting. Definitely looking forward to hearing more information about it.
Do want it to be HD remake bundles. Think of Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, all HD, new models, textures. Basically all done as 2.5D remakes in HD. Do want.
@SideScreamer Alright, just because you asked for it...
Reggie uses Spelunker HD 3D... It is far from effective
Maybe it's a compilation of games like Balloon Fight, Excitebike, Ice Climbers, etc with updated graphics and sound.
I hope its a collection of 25 or so NES games on one disc in a similar fashion to the Ultimate Genesis Collection that Sega released a few years ago. Seeing as how that'd hurt VC sales though, i highly doubt it.
Intrigued at least. Maybe it is a revival of the lesser used and neglected Nintendo Properties from the NES era: ice Climbers, Kid Icarus, Ballon Fight, Mach Rider, Gyromite, and StarTropics.
Interesting...
I am so freaking tired of NES games. Seriously, Nintendo. We get it. They're 8 bit games. They used to be really freaking good. You have so much more history to put on the VC and offer "remixes" for. This is not what we want.
If this will be a remix, then original unmodified versions of some of the best NES games would be cool. And to all you who dis Nintendo bringing back old games and focus on new games, they are doing both. I have about 20 Nintendo franchise titles in my collection of Wii games (got kids). If you take a look from a business stance, re-releasing good old games makes sense. Old NES games won't be hard to port to new systems and there is demand for the retro games from the NES, SNES and N64. Look at all the 95%-100% working emulators out there that are still being made/updated for PC, MAC, linux, iOS, Android, XBOX (original), GameCube and even the Wii! (I'm sure there are others) Also, a large population of gamers first PLAYED on the NES, SNES, SMS, Genesis, etc. I had my NES at 12yrs old; I'm 37. Castlevania 3 is just as good now as it was then. I just finished the 1st Zelda (look at my avatar). I do still like the new stuff. I'm half-way through Last Story and I'm reserving the next six months for Xenoblade Chronicles. I don't have a Wii-U yet but I might buy the Xenoblade before I get a Wii U.
Oh, and enough of the 'anything not HD, sucks' attitude.
I'm certainly curious. Maybe it's "Second Quests" for lots of NES games like Metroid, Zelda II, Kid Icarus, etc. Akin to what has been done by fans for ages with ROMs. Heck, I'd love to see some of those get onto the virtual console, but that would be way out there especially for Nintendo.
I guess I'd like new graphics for some of those, but I wouldn't want anything TOO simple. If you are going to remake Metroid, do it Metroid Zero Mission style, not just Mario All-Stars style.
Curious...
All Stars style graphics for NES games, and hopefully with slowdown in some NES games removed?
It's obviously an HD remake of everybody's favorite NES game, Urban Champion! ;D
its startropics,
but i hope its another urban champion release just to piss everyone off so i have more comments to read and popcorn to eat.
Brand new never before seen NES game released via Virtual Console? That would be cool, even better after hackers dump the ROM and burn it to a real cart. It happened with DK complete Edition; it can happen again!
River City Ransom HD!
