Re: Satoru Iwata: Customers Understanding The Wii U "Will Take a Little Time"

Ducutzu

I find it hilarious that almost every article on Nintendolife has comments such as: "I love Nintendo and I am their biggest fan, but they clearly dropped the ball on this console - by the way, I do not own a Wii, DS, 3DS or Wii U. I saw hours of footage of New Super Mario Bros U on YouTube and it sucks, there are no games for me on the Wii U and the battery life sucks too".

One of the coolest (and most helpful) little features of Miiverse is the sign that indicates that the poster indeed owns the software in cause.

Re: Nintendo Announces 890,000 Wii U Sales in U.S. Launch

Ducutzu

These are excellent figures, considering that:

  • the Wii U is expensive (compared to other available consoles)
  • doesn't have a lot of games just yet
  • new games for it are quite expensive (compared to games for other consoles)
  • the GamePad, while cool, doesn't scream "new" from the top of its lungs (not like the Wii remote did).

It's mostly the enthusiasts like us that picked up one at launch. The moms around the world will get one later this year, when there are more hot games and their kids will get to play the Wii U at a friend's place and start crying for one.

Re: Review: ESPN Sports Connection (Wii U)

I received this game as a gift. This is a budget game (not a masterpiece but competently realized) that sadly is sold at full price.

I want to point out a major flaw in this review. This game is clearly designed for local multiplayer, and the review is more like a "first impressions" in single player.

I believe that the reviewer has not tried this game with two or more players!

Miiverse is awesome and I love helping to make it clean. I have reported a post by one claiming to work for NintendoLife.com, where he wrote "yo bitches"... and it was removed promptly.

Re: Nintendo Provides Final Wii U Launch Line-Up for Europe

Ducutzu

This lineup of games is perfect for me, as one who does not own other HD consoles.

Since the 3DS launch, I learned that many professional review sites are biased against Nintendo. So I take most reviews with a large grain of salt.

I do deplore the way IGN and Gamespot have degenerated since the Gamecube era.

Re: Ubisoft Boss Thinks Wii U Is Cheap, But Is Still Unhappy On Pricing

Ducutzu

I think that Guillemot takes into account that now, in many European countries, a PS3 or Xbox 360 cost less than half the price of Wii U. Those are strong propositions for the holiday (at least for the casual market). So the Wii U is expensive compared to a PS3 or Xbox 360... but maybe still cheaper compared to an iPad. We here ofcourse don't compare the Wii U to an iPad. But the average consumer will make that comparison.

Re: Nintendo Cuts Profit Projections After Half-Year Results

When it comes to handheld devices, the trend is that, at some point, one or two titles "click" with the public in a special way... and, from then on, everybody starts buying the device and all games released for it.

So most complaints about the 3DS (no games, don't like the design, blah blah blah) are not really relevant. What has yet to happen in Europe is that special "click" with the public consciousness. Until that happens, the vast majority of potential buyers will not care one bit about the device.

In Japan, the "click" seems to have happened with "Monster Hunter". So now many releases (like "Bravely Default" and so on) enjoy great reviews and excellent sales. It's like an "on/off" switch has been activated in the mind of the public.

But it's obvious that this has not yet happened in Europe. Not even with Mario Kart 7 and New Super Mario Bros 2.

It's funny that not even Nintendo can tell what will click. They were surprised at the success of "Nintendogs" and "Art Academy" for the DS.

Who knows what will ignite the public this time... "Animal Crossing", maybe?

I dare to guess that it will be some game with a lot of content, rather than something like your average mobile phone game.

I think it's great that you started again posting reviews for older games. It's what brought me on Nintendo Life a couple of years ago.

Re: Soothsayers, Begone - 3DS Software Sales Rise 89 Percent Over Last Year

Ducutzu

There is a small number (maybe a couple hundred) very vocal people who use the comment system of various gaming outlets to just blindly repeat whatever is the most common criticism about a video game or system.

If, for example, the press writes that one game is rather short, you will immediately see hundreds of posts saying all the same thing: "There is no content!".

Whatever main criticism is identified by the press, it becomes the haters' mantra.

A year ago the 3DS sales were one such mantra. Nowdays it can't be used anymore.

Let's see what the trolls will latch onto next.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo 3DS XL

Ducutzu

The 3DS XL is clearly for the 40-years-plus market segment who got the DSi XL but did not change to a 3DS just yet.

So it's curious why would anyone think that the XL would be an "upgrade" for current 3DS users.

I am very happy with my 3DS. It packs a lot of features in a compact package, with sleek, edgy design.

Re: Site News: James Finds a Warp Zone

Congratulations on the promotion, James! It must be indeed very exciting for you. Your enthusiasm was one of the main reasons why I kept returning to this website. I am sorry to say, but to me it seemed that you are the only writer here at Nintendo Life who actually plays Nintendo games.

Re: Nintendo Download: 7th June 2012 (Europe)

Ducutzu

I have Heroes of Ruin on my preorders list, and tried the demo out of curiosity. The game feels great. To me, it brings back memories of another game that I used to play many years ago on the PC, sadly I forgot its name (not Diablo though).
