Ouch. Not much in the way of downloadable goodness this week, with just three games available - all of which are 3DS-based and one of which is a retail download. Aside from some downloadable videos and a smattering of DLC, there's not much else to report.
3DS Retail Download
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Nintendo, €44.99 / £39.99) — To coincide with the retail release of Layton's next adventure, you can also download the game directly to your 3DS console. Check out our Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask review if you're interested.
3DS Download
Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D (Teyon, €4.99 / £4.49) — An update of the disappointing WiiWare shooter, this action title improves on what has gone before but is still barely worth playing. As we said in our Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D review, "no matter what is bolted to it, the core of this revision remains a bland, anonymous, lowest-common-denominator shooter that leaves no taste behind and ultimately may as well have not even happened".
3DS Virtual Console
Mighty Bomb Jack (Koei Tecmo, €4.99 / £4.49) — Conclusive proof that not all retro classics have stood the test of time, this 8-bit port of the arcade original is a rather painful trip down memory lane. If you need convincing, you can check out our review of the Wii Virtual Console edition of Mighty Bomb Jack.
3DS Downloadable Video
BREAKTHRU Films (€0.99 / £0.89 each) - A brand new selection of videos from Breakthru Films is now available to purchase.
Videos available this week include:
- Fat Hamster
- Little Postman
- Magical Dance
- Papa’s Boy
- Scarecrow
- Spirits of the Piano
- Transformation
3DS Downloadable Content
New Art Academy (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 each) — Learn even more ways to create art with two new add-ons available for New Art Academy this week:
- Pointilism & Textures
- Mixing Paints
Special Offer
Let's Golf 3D sees a limited price drop to just €1.99 / £1.79 - its original price was €6 / £5.40, so that's quite a saving.
Not a lot to get your pulse racing this week, then. Let's get the formality of the poll over with, shall we?
What will you be downloading first this week? (97 votes)
- Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D (3DS eShop)
- Mighty Bomb Jack (3DS Virtual Console)
- Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS Retail Download)
- New Art Academy DLC (3DS eShop)
- Let’s Golf! 3D (3DS eShop Special Offer)

Nothing for me once again.
Will definitely have to pick up Layton sometime, but I'll buy the physical version when I do.
Darn it, Cave Story+ where already?
what they didn't release virtues last reward thats crazy
Heavy Fire: Special Operations ! Hell Yeah !! instant download and propably Lets Golf 3D
Sigh.
2€/New Art Academy lesson...it's a bit expensive.
That is a brilliant offer for Let's Golf!
Will be buying a physical copy of Professor Layton come 9am on Friday! I'm very excited for it!
I loved Mighty Bomb Jack back in the day. Might get it, even if it's only for nostalgic reasons.
I've got a physical copy of Layton preordered from shopto.net. I think Mighty Bomb Jack is a much better game than you give it credit for though, and will be quite fun to have on a handheld.
Definitely downloading Professor Layton, it'll be far less hassle when it comes to the daily puzzles.
Gonna download Layton.
Nothing for the Wii? Meh.
NOA needs to start having sales as well.
freaking 66% off sales and we get not even a whisper of sales on the way ;_;
Hooray! Mighty Bomb Jack! The perfect game to play after a frontal lobotomy!
Even though this week is pretty bad overall, I may get Let's Golf, simply because its so cheap and I have a bit of spare money
@Pikachupwnage I'll take the NA software selection these past couple of weeks over a sale any day. No need to be jealous of EU because of one sale.
We need some good VC games for the Wii again! No more of the SNK crap from the forgettable Neo Geo!
No more of the SNK crap from the forgettable Neo Geo!
I'm sorry, you don't know what you're talking about. The NeoGeo is hardly crap or forgettable.
Woah sweet unexpected discount I'm all over that
@bulby1994 you should! I hate golf and even I liked it! It is full of content and is well worth £1.79 (the price of ONE Art Academy lesson)!
Does the european shop gets updated every monday or thursday?
Pre-ordered Layton looking forward to something fresh for my 3ds.
@AlbertoC Very true. The 25th is the Nintendo of North America's eShop update.
I'm very worried that 17 people who read Nintendolife - people that I would like to think would be knowledgable consumers, are still willing to pay a large amount over the odds for downloadable versions of retail games.
@AlbertoC
Thursdays, but we find out what is coming much earlier (obviously)
For those wondering about the many golf games available to you, I have to say that Mario Golf for the GBC is the best one currently available
Im thinking of buying Fat Hamster from BREAKTHRU. I actually thougth it was funny. But the asking price makes me not buying it at all. But I can keep it forever. DECISIONS!!!!! AGhhhh!!!
I have Heavy Fire from the US downloads when it came out and although not some great cutting edge game I have had some fun with it. It's an ok cheapy
oh wow let's golf 3d is really cool. Really worth a price drop download. Let's golf 3d would be awesome if it had online play
I'll get a physical copy of Professor Layton and the Miracle mask at some point but not anytime soon as I only just got Spectre's call.
again, why the shovelware???
nothing for me...
I just realized, why is NL referring NES games to their Wii VC review? Is it just a placeholder until they get the 3DS VC review in?
I remember they used to review 3DS VC NES games, on the ground that the experience would be different enough on a portable to Justify a seperate review, but they haven't reviewed any 3DS VC NES games lately (just referring to the Wii VC review).
I want LEGO:Lord of the Rings demo!
Nothing for me. Already have Let's Golf which I thought was decent DL ware. Professor Layton is pre-ordered for over £10 cheaper as a on-line retail pre-order! Cartridge for me all the way, thanks NoE!
@Philip_J_Reed
i see im not the only one who knows how to play mighty bomb jack
That's good that my wallet can have a great this week! I've got plenty that's already out that I plan on buying!
Lets Golf is only 1.70? hmmm, might jusy buy it for the sake of collecting 3DSWare..
Nevermind my previous comment. They just put up a 3DS VC review of Mega Man, so referencing the Wii VC review in the 3DS update is probably just a placeholder until they get the 3DS VC review up.
And thus we begin the death of DSiWare.
I am very excited for the additional lessons in New Art Academy!
Good offer on Let's Golf, i'd held off getting it before cos i've already got several golf games, but at that price it's definitely worth a go.
Also interested in Mighty Bomb Jack, even though i know it's not supposed to be as good as the original Bomb Jack.
mighty bomb jack, no way !
i want this!!! reminds me my childhood so much. i played this title after school for weeks !
Pointilism! What a coincidence I thought about wanting a lesson about this a few days ago. Thank you Nintendo!
Anyone got any idea when Luigi's Mansion 2 is coming out in Europe?
Ended up downloading Speedthru: Potzol's Puzzle earlier as it was on the E-shop at a 25% discount meaning it only cost slightly over £4. Excellent game for that price and I'm already enjoying it infinitely more than the dull, repetitive Pullblox.
