@gcunit Science Girl here, srys was on vacation or something. ~ yeah the comments sort of took a turn away from this (curiosity on the underlying mechanisms )~~ maybe /hope hopes(!!) everyone knows about solid state, semiconductors, pitch length, different forms of related memory, flash specific weird stuffs etc.
Just like carts, the game console or computer itself has chips, ram, etc with various levels of durability. Higher temperature is known to correlate to reduced longevity; but it’s just a “make sure the fan is running” sort of concern. Uneven wear is another concern (sort of key, but it includes all types).. (think of how the carpet in your apt gets worn out where you walk in the door) ~ it is possible that the sort of operating systems etc can be prone to errors which can destroy solid state machines.
Yes, there are leveling methods etc. Yes they SHOULD be designed for 40 yrs of daily use etc. Yes there are other details- this is just a forum not a science lecture..
It’s actually not wrong to consider solid state devices mechanical in a sense. The electrons ARE matter, the solid state assumption requires that the non valiance level electrons are neglected. Of course it’s true that p-n regions (any doped region, Si based or not) degrade. There are other mechanisms as well. Volatile memory needs a battery or to be powered on or it’s gone.
Flash is a bit weird~ Frohman-Bentchkowsky‘s non volatile cmos concept[4], they now maximize density with multi-level cell architecture of this floating gate, using commiserate high(er) voltage schemes. There is a sort of capacitor death failure mode proposed in the literature (or is it an oxide induction issue or am I making it all up lol jk ~ wow you read this far!?)
If you did... the wear thing is pretty confusing right? Like are the electrons worn out!? So it turns out there are a number of things going on. It’s been a while... (mothra flies out of Science Girl’s ear) - Drain problems are like opening the transistor gate to move the ponies, but the last batch of ponies won’t get along to pasture. Degradation can minorly change the gate voltage so it’s like the paddock gate opens before it should or stays closed when it should open. Etc. I could dust off the solid state book! But I think I’m going long as it is Lol. Some reading, listed specific to foundational.
Airportmania nonstop dsiware ~30 min block of flying away w cute airplane critters and forget about life.
Funny! I’m on SMT devil survivor too~ this is my first smt game. It seemed waaay too easy until just a bit after the cosplay star...then hmm not so much with the easy at all. No spoiler, but I’m guessing Yoohoo is hiding Dual RPGs (weapon) and it will both save the day and make me feel a bit better about myself for no reason. Lol.
@Teksetter I’ll set up a side section to continue style’n talk so feel free to respond if you don’t get the “@“ soon.
I’ll be checking if any of these recommendations are available etc ~ but great selection! Ty! ~to go with the next Zelda game now I’ll be ~almost~ disappointed if it doesn’t emphasize the giant robo nature of the caves,dungeons, etc.
That battleroids/gerwalks bit ~ pretty nice info~ I didn’t realize this was a recognized type. I had run across a battleroid thing a while ago that inspired an art project and assumed it was a ‘transformers” derivative or the reverse. I’ll at least go and search on those keywords to fill out that background.
Thanks!
Wow, Zelda to battleroids: only here on Nintendo Life people!
@NotPoliticallyCorrec
~A block w/o text appears (so I might be missing part of the article)
Buuut ~~~
Thanks! That would be kind of a great idea!~ If I run w/your idea a bit~ making one or more if these into a real working cart: LRG (or any fab shop) + The artist + Nintendo (well maybe) = proceeds to charity..?
Get a (or selection of) ‘winner’ from this made into a fami game.
eg a paint your own cart sim etc. Or a shuffle vid of pics from this event nothing too fancy.
They could charge a high amount, and it would be a great collectors’ item on the art and game sides of things.
@BloodNinja Per the main topic: My dear ninja: YOU ARE THE KONAMI CODE!!
Wow~ I’ve only scratched the surface of shumpland!!~~ 3DS shump doldrums I guess ~ I recall a post on psp/vita. any point for those other than portable emulation a pc could do? Like, Saturn shumps etc.? it’s a pain figuring what is compatible for official download (unless I’m missing something).
The family that got me into games wasn’t Exactly devoted to shumps but I recall ‘tutoring sessions’ on an NES title “Stinger” It was like Salamander-life forcé horizontal/vert mix on twin bee cute em up motif. A Konami title, I think, never tried the code though. With the rock n metal beats and lighter difficulty of the Later snes Shumps he could have been much more into them, and just think how rockin I’d be by now if that happened.
On the music: I love such technical layered pieces akin to classical/“art” music but beyond the symphony too~ it is reminiscent of the activity we have in our minds’ eye as we solve complex problems. The guitar finger hammered sounding bits remind me that final fantasy iii/6 (the famous snes one) had a soundtrack with boss music of that bad penny repeating evil character. Someone did that as a rock ensemble plus synthesizer - but alas that’s not much to go on. The speed/tech without it devolving into ‘only’ high tech/speed like some death metal can be~ very nice... I was going for some easy going toons, but you don’t need that~ Envy that~ youre just fast or faster~ The ninja’s enemies never even see the flash of your blade
Thanks fun chatting~ quick on the other stuff:~ I’m sure you’re less phased than me lol, but even if it’s everyday bs you are too good at forgetting~ It’s worth writing: you’re dignity is beyond any abuse AND I have a few ideas what position might get such flak and likely no thanks~ so thank you! (which ever it is)
@COVIDberry Thanks for writing! Yes, it was a confusion of meaning then! Def not trying to be sarcastic against you. If anything I think the stuck up academic is the joke~ but being that I’m covered in education makes it confusing for on lookers.
I’m with you on avoiding courting conflict, at least personal (I love conflict and such in formal matters like science). So my priority one is to help online friends have a better day ~~ seriously~~ let me know if anything I write comes across a bit off. Even to someone else. I never want to do that.
I honestly had no ill will towards anyone at NL, or Kate so my “humor” on writing out equations for things they don’t really need to be used for is just a self directed joke at my community (scientists) who sometimes act like an equation is all that is needed for everything But Even IRL I have had people think I’m being sarcastic when I’m trying to just be kind, so I’ll do my best to be sensitive to that too.
@Teksetter Are there any Robo/Mech anime you’d recommend to the Zelda fans? Or in general? (Srys if this is a silly question, really not familiar w either series)
Sub-topic response to teksetter: In science etc although beauty and elegance are appreciated, the superficial is not (this of course is a gross generalization, and it seems to be less than when I started, or maybe I’m less prone..)
So having cute hair can be a way to squeeze a little identity in or can be seen as superficial depending on the perspective. All getting at: I initially had a bigger reply when I wrote “[love my bangs]” etc saying how we should ~wink~ irl do our hair together and I have all these tips etc but realized I was going overboard and you might be just being friendly~~~SO but the point is how interesting, though not the same, I see your mention on ‘fan girl’ and wonder if you actually helped me understand my ideal cute bangs obsession in light of my identity...
@Teksetter Thanks~ over and above! ~ I really try to be a kind presence so I’ve been worried I wrote something accidentally offensive to covidberry, hope all is smoothed out now.
On the topic ~ I love that you have the right details, ~like that “no densetu” looks familiar! Even if you made it up I wouldn’t know, but I looked up that “Chou......” So fun! Looks like you re-conjugated something like this~ https://myanimeshelf.com/upload/dynamic/2017-04/19/1000085340_11.jpg And ‘Densetu’ being the Legend part...
Lol you’re so fun! Thanks I’m betting on your guess for sure
@BloodNinja The k-code is a great way to train. Through the “cheat” one becomes a great player if not losing focus, and learning from the deaths etc. It’s a bit like developing character from the trials of life. What doesn’t kill us may not make us stronger, but it will shape our character plus or minus.. If I lose focus from the dying help me, and I’ll do the same for you. ... srys I can be oblique... more directly to your text: It’s strange, as we find any redeeming value in such things, yet yours is a sentiment that resonates too well: It really pains me that you were mistreated. Please know your fun comments here also make my day despite some heavy sh.. elsewhere~~~ Since reaching out through the cabling and EM waves doesn’t work, ~~remember that throwing star problem? I’ve been meaning to link someing nice, but irl ties me up... I’m making time for my bestie ninja! Now sit back and pretend we’re hitting a club together ~~ get chills w me
Related to my last comment to you on that “art style” chibi article .. I guess, we can all use a ninja sometimes. I know this isn’t much, but best wishes my dear ninja.
Teksetter, Seeing how it developed~~ I’m guessing that covidberry might have me on “ignored” status to avoid accidental contact and thus missed the reply. If it’s nbd let berry know: I was never mad, it was just a mix up?
As for your comment 181 (srys it’s been a few days, science waits for no one) I’m getting that you’re both pretty smart, yet humble about it. and~~~ for once in my life~~~ you’d be somebody to just love me for my hair instead of focusing on my mind. lol
Now- does this game show add an idea to Zelda titles? eg TLOZ: Divine Beast vs Gundam Mech (My knowledge on both topics is pretty low) But link got a motor bike right? (Or are those m kart pics... )
@LaytonPuzzle27 RIGHT? Lol. Good times, that 3DS FE game where the character animations had no feet! I thought it was a new art style until the next game shocked me...
@Teksetter @COVIDberry Hi, just in case there was anything written in my initial comment (#178 ) that has an unknown meaning to me or just comes across wrong I’m deleting it. No bad feelings toward covidberry, teksetter, NL, or anyone else intended
The comment was: A: a sort of introduction to teksetter thanks to covidberry
B: commentary with limited equations as a joke response on how to solve the probability of a given Zelda title.
In closing, if you missed it~ nice to know you teksetter, I go by “Science Girl” when I write a silly post, else my name indicates my passion for science and my adorbs bangs.
@COVIDberry
I think it might be how I used the “@s”
I was saying like “hi berry, I didn’t know teck..” ...etc.
Thanks for posting back. I am not so good at my science girl humor spots either (they hit or miss ). But it’s fun to add some math/science to the hobby.
Sorry for the confusion, but we are good I just write poorly (in flashes on my phone ~~ auto correct etc)
@BloodNinja Umm... this is so embarrassing , but that was Me back when I was living as a man... I was trying to PR big time, k code only does so much ~~ I never got back to you- Srys ~~ it was a bass sax btw~ so I figured I could lift anything after that coffin case.
Without “at-ing” any of these recents- Sorry for any way this blow up was due to me asking sideways etc. I have respect for you and have appreciated everyone’s comments knowing that~~~ yes it can be a tough subject as was stated before: abuse, censorship, etc. Could influence our comments too. I hope we all can grow in respect, and though my dear BloodNinja may not have the perfect wording for all; the same goes in the other direction too. Sincerely, let us all forgive talking past each other as just that, mis understandings.
To that ninja also, though maybe too hot headed to some, your sentiment is understood by us who could have used your wraith and empty scabbard in days long past.
Though no one else will say boo now...
Yes even without much background most everyone recognizes the onion domes from easier victory screens, so it is a big clue... As a little Science Girl I asked: mommy, why is this booster different? (Unaware of that history)
She gave some goofy answer about pixel drawing~ which it took a while for me to resolve. So this article really brought back memories of mis-identifying that...
I was pointing out how things can be confused etc. and sort of ‘fishing’ a bit with the Sputnik as a clue too if anyone would go there. You made my day!
You get the virtual Science Girl award! ... whatever that means.
So are you a space/science person or is this just common knowledge to you without any special background?
Others: see “Energia” VS “ET/SRB” for rocket details.
(Edit: was going to add a thumbnail but didn’t find a good solid-liquid combo quickly)
@Goomba77 Yes~~ the USA Space Shuttle! Not trying to be a meanie meanerson (really, thanks for the article, and your work at NL I have a similar memory @kategray )
~~~ So, is it just bc Science Girl likes science-y stuffs that it seems so obvious or that the space shuttle seems so distinctive?
I’d assume rockets might be hard to identify, eg -Sputnik (1st artificial satellite) is very distinctive, but not a series thing/iron curtain reasons. -Saturn (Apollo/ first moon transport) is not distinctive VS~ -space shuttle (has a little airplane piggyback, program ran for a long time) Most distinctive?
Just curious if others didn’t know too~~ or maybe Kate is expressing how a kid might not have known.
And no picking on!~~ even as a zygote, glad you’re AROUND
@Blizzia Thank you for that detailed 2-part response , I’m honored! I had read a bit as well on the history with sailor moon/chibiusa always wondering if I was missing something due to how ubiquitous chibi style was on 3ds and also the ocasional jarringly adult(?) animation etc. Maybe they were western ripoff ‘anime’ ~~not naming a game, and starting a flame war.
So I think I learned a bit now, and really agree the best (my fav) chibi is the face-focusing simplistic caricatures- and the older kind that kept adult proportions... So, I also still get where writers like PB or @BloodNinja are coming from. It’s one thing that fine wine is foul to the uninitiated- but even there we’d go too far to scorn the virgin palate,no? So it remains a case by case thing to me-but that’s just about every art style too so maybe I’m swayed a little?
Given your use of the Japanese moon-love idiom, maybe it’s like this? group A sees an “elephant in the room” while group B thinks A are “bulls in a china shop ~ making a mountain out of a mole hill” ~~~~~~ i may be missing it though.
Thanks again for all the comments everyone, sorry it is a touchy subject for people potentially due to abuse, excessive censorship, or both.
@PBandSmelly @Blizzia Could you maybe link some details on chibi blizzia? ~~~Serious question not trying to be offensive ~~~ Chibi stuffs (sometimes) look like toddlers I’ve babysat. Their not just petite/cute but chubby legs & arms etc. It is off-putting with adult themes. I’m not even referring to the mild content of this image per se... So from your response (and others I’ve seen elsewhere) it seems like if PBandsmelly and I see the chibii style as reminiscent of toddlers, we are missing something.
Maybe it’s just being in a caretaker role can leave a girl hyper vigilant?
@chipia @COVIDberry
Hope I’m not stepping on your toes chipia~
Legit question COVIDberry, though also realize comment section is limited forum.
I think Motzart has a humor piece with a discordant ending and there after...
It seems like I’m hearing something else, this just seemed like it was missing a few layers, it could be the proto build of a club hit. Not the worst at all (not my jam either tho).
@EriXz Yes! Great point~~~ There are so many of these other Greek etc. based games, it’s surprising how much it gets rehashed. ~~yet they are mostly superficial anyhow as Greek myths, for example loved tragic endings right ? This game may or may not be in that direction; but even if it’s just the artistic style, that would still be good~~ the Metroid II remake (w/Jose Luis Márquez et al.) added wonderfully to the artistic depth of that series.
~~~everyone: please pardon if previous comment humor was too dry, I was playing a hyper-intellectual snob not “getting” that Aztec isn’t Az-Tech, yeah, Science Girl needs to work on the sillies...
Even Neil Peart (Rush, Totem) confuses Pre-classic Mayan with the post-classic Aztec. Aztec is in no anthropological /archeological circles the un argued height of proto-Mexico/Central America. So few know any history...
As pointed out below: Aztecs came along after oxford was well established.
@tseliot Ps You surely parse my every word with your username-name-sake! Now, which way should my “footfalls echo“ to greater views of the liminal, or subliminal on that weed thing...
TS Eliot’s work is worth a read and doesn’t fit a reductionist label, sort of a theme I’m going on...
@tseliot Yes! Thanks for bring some humor in too. I know my sillies are a bit dry. ~~~ you know it could be a superposition of both more weed (M) and less (L)! Science Girl’s (S) ideal quantum state in bra-ket formalism assuming a Hilbert space |S> = a |M> + b |L> See: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superposition_principle
Quantum electrodynamics reveals that non-commutating.... err. (Sry Science Girl gets wordy...) in short: *Sometimes things that seem mutually exclusive aren’t! *
Of all the things we could give @KateGray a hard time about, I feel at odds having to stand up for myself, on a ‘how I am’ issue but here it is... Kate claims to be all about the liminal, they writes beautifully and enchants us all with their near poetic level prose (on a humble gamer site!?) to elevate our thoughts vis-a-vis Samus’ shinespark in the escape sequence. Even I at first thought these uses indicated a way to have peace with certain areas, transitions, and windows that remain tumultuous in my soul.
Kate seems to be a friend in this passion electronica....BUT THEN~~ They called their switch “[he]” against the apparent style guide of NL. Some of you have gotten distracted on if their Switch use was/wasn’t abuse, if the system has/has no quality issues, all the while this use of metaphor from dog to hand held idolized phallic toy given by a self identified academic word smith (see, with warning, their graphic undertones in “ Feature: The Exquisite Liminality Of Zelda: Skyward Sword”)...
There is, of course, no connection here with determining if the switch is/isn’t X/Y/Z to the style guides/writers and it thus turning into a completely different issue for peep to bicker on all while leaving the real people to be used as fodder.
~~~ Love you Kate, the praise bits are real thoughts on your texts. Thanks for writing for us!
@timleon Nice comment. Not due to empathy, but a rational perspective on the data. I too rarely have hardware problems, but it’s rational to look for answers of both user and hardware even if it is hit and miss.
@nessisonett According to my highly accurate vacuum spectrometer... it could be 4.61% more indigoish[1] (a very scientific term). Jk
Really the same group in ‘standards’ have done away with indigo just like Pluto ~~as a planet.~~ [and not without reason, but it is still a sore issue so I’ll leave those details involving a cartoon dog out] So, indigo has only historically defined wavelength(s) and is no longer truly a spectral color at all, so it is now, for artists to decide, science Girl is not an expert here
For more curious color conundrums Science Girl recommends reading up on the very non-existent nature of magenta [2]! An Okay ish article linked...
The vid has a ‘something is missing’ feel to it in sprite dynamics or something~~ see vids of the vania-lite, Citadale [sic] (Wii u) for the same issue. This is not to label it a bad game etc. ~~ just curious what seems ~ off~ vs the GBA castlevanias ?
@A_Infamous_Ric See 2:43 on the vid- the failure process should still apply [1], -likely more slowly for obvious reasons- but still your comment is so funny! Sad he didn’t rip out the joy stick and solder direct to the board...
@BulkSlash Interesting! Good thought I had no idea NSO had 50 titles! (Or does it?)
That shouldn’t count ,of course, because NSO =/= NES ~~~~ they had a NSO ranked list before so .hmm.
Sure it is how many will play, but (for example) it makes sense for Ufouria, Recca (summer 94 shump thingy), and Murasame Castle to be excluded Bc they are VC exclusive to many and VC =/= NES.
As to these comments~~~ esp as lavatwilight Points out ~~~ did NL perhaps have a cutoff of minimum number of users ranking them?
It’s one thing to disagree, but like Faxadu et al, Ufouria also has a much higher score (7.5) than many on the list. I wouldn’t expect these (ufouria etc) are popular- but mega man 3, castlevania iii, contra titles.... Anyone old enough to have an NES will, as a scientific fact have at least one of these.
@KateGray I’m with you on the look, although Science Girl offers the note that red-lit keys have limited use for dark work environments/ glowing fans are useful only at keeping Science Girl away though lol. So ... with 3D printing, etsy, etc. it’s easier than ever to mod and if it’s too hard Decal-erm. “ ‘ sticker-lady ’ “ type places offer fully user-customized stick-on sheets.
Thanks for writing! ~~~and if I get a switch I can buy an AC version and trade w/u the colored bits
The NA one has that over contrived candid photo look from an old magazine/news paper - just turn the image on its side...
—...Reunited with her father (Cpt. B. Johnson, Lancaster fire & rescue) for the first time after the disaster, Jill, age 17 proclaims “you’ve always been my hero daddy.” ...
@BloodNinja Yes, mostly. 3ds too though. Notably the street pass mini games and that tomodachi (“sims”). The mii people are in smash even on switch. Maybe? So maybe it’s like Nintendo couldn’t decide if they should ditch miis for new stuff or support the idea ~~~ like Konami with that vania-like game after we all thought cv was on the ~100yr Dracula cycle.. ...oh how rude of me! I get it~~~Did you want to come over and play Wii Dolls with me? There’s a fab ninja star game too and I play it thinking of you and our crime fighting exploits or whatev... err I mean...wow look at the time. Gotta go BC Science is. The maths. What?
@Daniel36 Thanks- interesting parallel, even that final fantasy game on SNES has some silly bits and the series is know for popularizing elegant mechanics. If you like elegant combat mechanics and this Miitopia looks good, there was a 3DS street pass mini game “monster manor” I’d recommend chec’in a let’s play vid of or even DL-ing it if you have a second system etc to feed passes.
@BloodNinja ~It is called mii maker right?~ The make-your-mii-app... that app was called “Wii-dolls” by the kid I mentioned. If she saw that a mii could have all sorts of clothes and a Japanese monologue while adjusting eyebrows and doing its hair, goodbye barbies forever... and there’s your customer base! Oh wait, is that even more questions ?
Hmm. Maybe I should put non-dubbed anime on in the background when I’m doing my hair and adjusting my eyebrows...
@PBandSmelly ~~~Nice!~~~ In your honor I’m having a PB and... oh umm...
@BloodNinja Like you could fall at the hands of these...
And, surprised - I’d have thought if you’d question humanity it would be when you got grief for daring to not buy that game and subsequently lectured on financials. Don’t tell them I didn’t buy a switch. They might bulldoze my lab. Oh wait ive been overworking so... hm.
Similarly- hard to spend on this~~ the girl I watch sometimes likes to play “Wii-dolls“ together (aka mii maker) I think we logged 10 hrs on that RPG- better dialogue too.
@PBandSmelly From a purely scientific vantage: Pouring over the uncertainty and quantifiable errors in the experimental build, day and night reviewing the literature and including any archaic formalisms even if it means hand sourcing journals before 1946, weighing the need for data driven computation given stochastics and noise, sharpening every measure of the hypothesis, I’ve analyzed the data, used proprietary statistical regression methods so there is nothing left to chance. And... and ... and..
We ask together, we as united as those who may or may not have dreams of leaving our life as a stuffy Science Girl (why else play RPGs?) and becoming science Girl- the shinobi apprentice, dancer of the wind song...
@ChromaticDracula Agreed! Wiiware cards or whatever expired when that shop shutdown, Including the uploaded points even though re-downloads were kept up longer. Yes it’s apples and oranges-but that’s kind of the point- without explicit details plenty will say it is Nintendo’s right .... if my Fire Emblem 1 code/card expires in March too.
It is interesting to see what people write and I’m glad we all have fun posting on this site!
@Damo
That DL codes are a thing & will remain valid (probably) is actually useful- Thank you NL!
I write probably bc if I buy a FE1 code w/ no switch it means I have to hope Nintendo will accept it whenever it is reasonable for me to purchase a switch. Alternatively I heard there is a way to legally “trade” games between friends if on an NSO account? Hm...
Also, NL staff: It’s interesting how even when you all (NL) post articles that certain somebodies claim to have less than no interest in and that are not news worthy (often following official Nintendo releases), the same people write dozens of comments about how excessive/annoying/click bait etc. NL is and how you need to post this other stuff etc. It is almost like they are attacking NL for being ... “ ‘anti-consumer,’ “ ... (science Girl faints at the sight of this word)... but No no no they would never... no it is far more simple:
Certain commenters might just have a lil’ crush- and Damo- if that pic is accurate I can see why.
Just keeping it light and silly people~~~ digital hug
@Damo (Author UN?) Thanks, I like this sort of article and the interesting responses! I could misunderstand, but RNG is present for item drops and which attack monsters use etc.
Annnnd. Are you being a sneaky trickster? and making people ardently defend or harshly revoke their support of the latest Paper Mario as a “real” RPG bc of the same reasons ?!?!
Wow~ I’ve only scratched the surface of shumpland!!~~ 3DS shump doldrums I guess ~ I recall a post on psp/vita. any point for those other than portable emulation a pc could do? Like, Saturn shumps etc.? it’s a pain figuring what is compatible for official download (unless I’m missing something).
The family that got me into games wasn’t Exactly devoted to shumps but I recall ‘tutoring sessions’ on an NES title “Stinger” It was like Salamander-life forcé horizontal/vert mix on twin bee cute em up motif. A Konami title, I think, never tried the code though. With the rock n metal beats and lighter difficulty of the Later snes Shumps he could have been much more into them, and just think how rockin I’d be by now if that happened.
On the music: I love such technical layered pieces akin to classical/“art” music but beyond the symphony too~ it is reminiscent of the activity we have in our minds’ eye as we solve complex problems. The guitar finger hammered sounding bits remind me that final fantasy iii/6 (the famous snes one) had a soundtrack with boss music of that bad penny repeating evil character. Someone did that as a rock ensemble plus synthesizer - but alas that’s not much to go on. The speed/tech without it devolving into ‘only’ high tech/speed like some death metal can be~ very nice...
I was going for some easy going toons, but you don’t need that~ Envy that~ youre just fast or faster~ The ninja’s enemies never even see the flash of your blade
Thanks fun chatting~ quick on the other stuff:~ I’m sure you’re less phased than me lol, but even if it’s everyday bs you are too good at forgetting~ It’s worth writing: you’re dignity is beyond any abuse AND I have a few ideas what position might get such flak and likely no thanks~
so thank you! (which ever it is)
Re: Back Page: Guessing The Next Zelda Title Using Industry Trends
@COVIDberry
Thanks for writing!
Yes, it was a confusion of meaning then!
Def not trying to be sarcastic against you.
If anything I think the stuck up academic is the joke~ but being that I’m covered in education makes it confusing for on lookers.
I’m with you on avoiding courting conflict, at least personal (I love conflict and such in formal matters like science). So my priority one is to help online friends have a better day ~~ seriously~~ let me know if anything I write comes across a bit off. Even to someone else. I never want to do that.
I honestly had no ill will towards anyone at NL, or Kate so my “humor” on writing out equations for things they don’t really need to be used for is just a self directed joke at my community (scientists) who sometimes act like an equation is all that is needed for everything
But
Even IRL I have had people think I’m being sarcastic when I’m trying to just be kind, so I’ll do my best to be sensitive to that too.
Re: Back Page: Guessing The Next Zelda Title Using Industry Trends
@Teksetter
Are there any Robo/Mech anime you’d recommend to the Zelda fans? Or in general?
(Srys if this is a silly question, really not familiar w either series)
Sub-topic response to teksetter:
In science etc although beauty and elegance are appreciated, the superficial is not (this of course is a gross generalization, and it seems to be less than when I started, or maybe I’m less prone..)
So having cute hair can be a way to squeeze a little identity in or can be seen as superficial depending on the perspective. All getting at:
I initially had a bigger reply when I wrote “[love my bangs]” etc saying how we should ~wink~ irl do our hair together and I have all these tips etc but realized I was going overboard and you might be just being friendly~~~SO but the point is how interesting, though not the same, I see your mention on ‘fan girl’ and wonder if you actually helped me understand my ideal cute bangs obsession in light of my identity...
Re: Back Page: Guessing The Next Zelda Title Using Industry Trends
@Teksetter
Thanks~ over and above! ~ I really try to be a kind presence so I’ve been worried I wrote something accidentally offensive to covidberry, hope all is smoothed out now.
On the topic ~ I love that you have the right details, ~like that “no densetu” looks familiar! Even if you made it up I wouldn’t know, but I looked up that “Chou......” So fun!
Looks like you re-conjugated something like this~
And
‘Densetu’ being the Legend part...
Lol you’re so fun! Thanks I’m betting on your guess for sure
Re: The Konami Code Turns 35 With A Special Album Of Lo-Fi Gradius Tracks
@BloodNinja
The k-code is a great way to train. Through the “cheat” one becomes a great player if not losing focus, and learning from the deaths etc. It’s a bit like developing character from the trials of life. What doesn’t kill us may not make us stronger, but it will shape our character plus or minus.. If I lose focus from the dying help me, and I’ll do the same for you.
... srys I can be oblique... more directly to your text:
It’s strange, as we find any redeeming value in such things, yet yours is a sentiment that resonates too well: It really pains me that you were mistreated. Please know your fun comments here also make my day despite some heavy sh.. elsewhere~~~
Re: Back Page: Guessing The Next Zelda Title Using Industry Trends
@COVIDberry @Teksetter
Teksetter, Seeing how it developed~~
I’m guessing that covidberry might have me on “ignored” status to avoid accidental contact and thus missed the reply.
If it’s nbd let berry know: I was never mad, it was just a mix up?
As for your comment 181 (srys it’s been a few days, science waits for no one)
I’m getting that you’re both pretty smart, yet humble about it. and~~~ for once in my life~~~ you’d be somebody to just love me for my hair instead of focusing on my mind.
Now- does this game show add an idea to Zelda titles? eg
Oh no. Here comes a mod.
Re: Back Page: Guessing The Next Zelda Title Using Industry Trends
@Teksetter @COVIDberry
Hi, just in case there was anything written in my initial comment (#178 ) that has an unknown meaning to me or just comes across wrong I’m deleting it.
No bad feelings toward covidberry, teksetter, NL, or anyone else intended
The comment was:
A: a sort of introduction to teksetter thanks to covidberry
B: commentary with limited equations as a joke response on how to solve the probability of a given Zelda title.
In closing, if you missed it~ nice to know you teksetter, I go by “Science Girl” when I write a silly post, else my name indicates my passion for science and my adorbs bangs.
Without “at-ing” any of these recents-
Sorry for any way this blow up was due to me asking sideways etc. I have respect for you and have appreciated everyone’s comments knowing that~~~
yes it can be a tough subject as was stated before: abuse, censorship, etc. Could influence our comments too.
I hope we all can grow in respect, and though my dear BloodNinja may not have the perfect wording for all; the same goes in the other direction too. Sincerely, let us all forgive talking past each other as just that, mis understandings.
To that ninja also, though maybe too hot headed to some, your sentiment is understood by us who could have used your wraith and empty scabbard in days long past.
Re: Memory Pak: The First Time I Saw The Rocket In Tetris
@Goomba77
Oh you caught it!
@JasmineDragon
Thanks - - yes! Impressed.
Though no one else will say boo now...
Yes even without much background most everyone recognizes the onion domes from easier victory screens, so it is a big clue... As a little Science Girl I asked: mommy, why is this booster different? (Unaware of that history)
She gave some goofy answer about pixel drawing~ which it took a while for me to resolve. So this article really brought back memories of mis-identifying that...
I was pointing out how things can be confused etc. and sort of ‘fishing’ a bit with the Sputnik as a clue too if anyone would go there. You made my day!
You get the virtual Science Girl award! ... whatever that means.
So are you a space/science person or is this just common knowledge to you without any special background?
Others: see “Energia” VS “ET/SRB” for rocket details.
(Edit: was going to add a thumbnail but didn’t find a good solid-liquid combo quickly)
Re: Memory Pak: The First Time I Saw The Rocket In Tetris
@Goomba77
Yes~~ the USA Space Shuttle!
Not trying to be a meanie meanerson
(really, thanks for the article, and your work at NL I have a similar memory @kategray )
~~~ So, is it just bc Science Girl likes science-y stuffs that it seems so obvious or that the space shuttle seems so distinctive?
I’d assume rockets might be hard to identify, eg
-Sputnik (1st artificial satellite)
is very distinctive, but not a series thing/iron curtain reasons.
-Saturn (Apollo/ first moon transport)
is not distinctive
VS~
-space shuttle (has a little airplane piggyback, program ran for a long time)
Most distinctive?
Just curious if others didn’t know too~~ or maybe Kate is expressing how a kid might not have known.
And no picking on!~~ even as a zygote, glad you’re AROUND
Re: Random: This Might Just Be The Longest Title We've Ever Seen For A Nintendo Switch Game
@Blizzia
Thank you for that detailed 2-part response , I’m honored! I had read a bit as well on the history with sailor moon/chibiusa always wondering if I was missing something due to how ubiquitous chibi style was on 3ds and also the ocasional jarringly adult(?) animation etc. Maybe they were western ripoff ‘anime’ ~~not naming a game, and starting a flame war.
So I think I learned a bit now, and really agree the best (my fav) chibi is the face-focusing simplistic caricatures- and the older kind that kept adult proportions...
So, I also still get where writers like PB or @BloodNinja are coming from. It’s one thing that fine wine is foul to the uninitiated- but even there we’d go too far to scorn the virgin palate,no? So it remains a case by case thing to me-but that’s just about every art style too so maybe I’m swayed a little?
Given your use of the Japanese moon-love idiom, maybe it’s like this? group A sees an “elephant in the room” while group B thinks A are “bulls in a china shop ~ making a mountain out of a mole hill” ~~~~~~ i may be missing it though.
Thanks again for all the comments everyone, sorry it is a touchy subject for people potentially due to abuse, excessive censorship, or both.
Re: Random: This Might Just Be The Longest Title We've Ever Seen For A Nintendo Switch Game

Re: Random: This Might Just Be The Longest Title We've Ever Seen For A Nintendo Switch Game
@PBandSmelly @Blizzia
Could you maybe link some details on chibi blizzia?
~~~Serious question not trying to be offensive ~~~
Chibi stuffs (sometimes) look like toddlers I’ve babysat. Their not just petite/cute but chubby legs & arms etc. It is off-putting with adult themes. I’m not even referring to the mild content of this image per se... So from your response (and others I’ve seen elsewhere) it seems like if PBandsmelly and I see the chibii style as reminiscent of toddlers, we are missing something.
Maybe it’s just being in a caretaker role can leave a girl hyper vigilant?
Re: Aztech Forgotten Gods Blends Mexican Storytelling With Anime-Inspired Action-Adventure
@EriXz
Yes! Great point~~~
There are so many of these other Greek etc. based games, it’s surprising how much it gets rehashed. ~~yet they are mostly superficial anyhow as Greek myths, for example loved tragic endings right ?
This game may or may not be in that direction; but even if it’s just the artistic style, that would still be good~~ the Metroid II remake (w/Jose Luis Márquez et al.) added wonderfully to the artistic depth of that series.
~~~everyone: please pardon if previous comment humor was too dry, I was playing a hyper-intellectual snob not “getting” that Aztec isn’t Az-Tech, yeah, Science Girl needs to work on the sillies...
Re: Aztech Forgotten Gods Blends Mexican Storytelling With Anime-Inspired Action-Adventure
Even Neil Peart (Rush, Totem) confuses
Pre-classic Mayan with the post-classic Aztec. Aztec is in no anthropological /archeological circles the un argued height of proto-Mexico/Central America.
So few know any history...

Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying
Of all the things we could give
@KateGray
a hard time about, I feel at odds having to stand up for myself, on a ‘how I am’ issue but here it is...
~~~
Love you Kate, the praise bits are real thoughts on your texts. Thanks for writing for us!
Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying
Nice comment. Not due to empathy, but a rational perspective on the data. I too rarely have hardware problems, but it’s rational to look for answers of both user and hardware even if it is hit and miss.
Re: Talking Point: Is The New Switch Lite Blue, Or Purple?
@nessisonett
According to my highly accurate vacuum spectrometer... it could be 4.61% more indigoish[1] (a very scientific term). Jk
Really the same group in ‘standards’ have done away with indigo just like Pluto ~~as a planet.~~ [and not without reason, but it is still a sore issue so I’ll leave those details involving a cartoon dog out] So, indigo has only historically defined wavelength(s) and is no longer truly a spectral color at all, so it is now, for artists to decide, science Girl is not an expert here
For more curious color conundrums Science Girl recommends reading up on the very non-existent nature of magenta [2]! An Okay ish article linked...
[1] indigo’s wavelength has been given as < 450nm; but, without too many links, Newton’s Opticks [sic] may have linked blue as modern cyan, and indigo as modern blue anyhow (a much clearer distinction)...
[2] https://medium.com/swlh/magenta-the-color-that-doesnt-exist-and-why-ec40a6348256
This can be misleading as yellow and cyan have the same underlying mechanism, while only yellow is everywhere spectral (Hecht 133)
Re: Feature: Best NES Games
@BulkSlash
Interesting! Good thought I had no idea NSO had 50 titles! (Or does it?)
That shouldn’t count ,of course, because NSO =/= NES ~~~~ they had a NSO ranked list before so .hmm.
Sure it is how many will play, but (for example) it makes sense for Ufouria, Recca (summer 94 shump thingy), and Murasame Castle to be excluded Bc they are VC exclusive to many and VC =/= NES.
Science Girl suspects April fools day came late.
Re: Feature: Best NES Games
@LavaTwilight @Zuljaras @MasterGraveheart @Magician @NintendoByNature @BanjoPickles
As to these comments~~~ esp as lavatwilight Points out ~~~ did NL perhaps have a cutoff of minimum number of users ranking them?
It’s one thing to disagree, but like Faxadu et al, Ufouria also has a much higher score (7.5) than many on the list. I wouldn’t expect these (ufouria etc) are popular- but mega man 3, castlevania iii, contra titles....
Anyone old enough to have an NES will, as a scientific fact have at least one of these.
Thanks for the writing but please explain?
Re: Talking Point: Should It Be Easier To Customise A Nintendo Switch?
Yes, mostly. 3ds too though.
Notably the street pass mini games and that tomodachi (“sims”). The mii people are in smash even on switch. Maybe? So maybe it’s like Nintendo couldn’t decide if they should ditch miis for new stuff or support the idea ~~~ like Konami with that vania-like game after we all thought cv was on the ~100yr Dracula cycle..
Thanks- interesting parallel, even that final fantasy game on SNES has some silly bits and the series is know for popularizing elegant mechanics.
If you like elegant combat mechanics and this Miitopia looks good, there was a 3DS street pass mini game “monster manor” I’d recommend chec’in a let’s play vid of or even DL-ing it if you have a second system etc to feed passes.
Similarly- hard to spend on this~~ the girl I watch sometimes likes to play “Wii-dolls“ together (aka mii maker) I think we logged 10 hrs on that RPG- better dialogue too.
Re: Video: Here's An Extended Look At The Miitopia Port For Nintendo Switch
@PBandSmelly
From a purely scientific vantage:
Pouring over the uncertainty and quantifiable errors in the experimental build, day and night reviewing the literature and including any archaic formalisms even if it means hand sourcing journals before 1946, weighing the need for data driven computation given stochastics and noise, sharpening every measure of the hypothesis, I’ve analyzed the data, used proprietary statistical regression methods so there is nothing left to chance. And... and ... and..
We ask together, we as united as those who may or may not have dreams of leaving our life as a stuffy Science Girl (why else play RPGs?) and becoming science Girl- the shinobi apprentice, dancer of the wind song...
So, OF COURSE, is it ninja approved?
That is the only question!
Re: There's Still One Way To Get Super Mario 3D All-Stars' Digital Version After 31st March
@ChromaticDracula
Agreed!
Wiiware cards or whatever expired when that shop shutdown, Including the uploaded points even though re-downloads were kept up longer. Yes it’s apples and oranges-but that’s kind of the point- without explicit details plenty will say it is Nintendo’s right .... if my Fire Emblem 1 code/card expires in March too.
It is interesting to see what people write and I’m glad we all have fun posting on this site!
Re: There's Still One Way To Get Super Mario 3D All-Stars' Digital Version After 31st March
@Damo
That DL codes are a thing & will remain valid (probably) is actually useful- Thank you NL!
I write probably bc if I buy a FE1 code w/ no switch it means I have to hope Nintendo will accept it whenever it is reasonable for me to purchase a switch. Alternatively I heard there is a way to legally “trade” games between friends if on an NSO account? Hm...
Also, NL staff: It’s interesting how even when you all (NL) post articles that certain somebodies claim to have less than no interest in and that are not news worthy (often following official Nintendo releases), the same people write dozens of comments about how excessive/annoying/click bait etc. NL is and how you need to post this other stuff etc. It is almost like they are attacking NL for being ... “ ‘anti-consumer,’ “ ... (science Girl faints at the sight of this word)... but No no no they would never... no it is far more simple:
Certain commenters might just have a lil’ crush- and Damo- if that pic is accurate I can see why.
Just keeping it light and silly people~~~ digital hug
