You bet there is. I can't count the number of "purists" I know that consider every game outside of the traditional platforming of the original GB and SNES games complete crap. LOL
For some reason companies still can't get on the same page and either release SHIP dates or RELEASE dates. We still get a steady dose of both, most of the time not knowing which is which.
You just have to remember Oddy that I'm not just reviewing for you guys and the hardcore fans of the game. I have to also take into account people who've never played the games before. It's tough to put a score on games sometimes, especially when they're as great as the BIT.TRIP series, but it felt like a 7, so I went with a 7.
That Slide Pad add-on is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. There's nothing wrong with the 3DS just the way it is. Just get the damn games rolling out.
As I said in the preview, if you're only going to get one, COMPLETE is the way to go. I was speaking of people who would just pass on the game entirely because of the score, not because they chose COMPLETE instead.
Since when do people pass on a 7? And I said in the review that it was worth the money for fans of the series. These are amazing games and worth the price for fans who love the games and want to be able to take them on the go.
Yeah hamispink, I certainly don't find the framerate thing game-breaking by any stretch. But it did hamper the overall experience for me, especially since RUNNER is my personal favorite game. It's still a wonderful game compilation of some amazing games. But I just felt like I had to knock it down a bit for those issues. My gut said 7, so that's what I went with.
@hamispink - Despite it not being completely fair to compare the two, it's almost impossible not to. Both cost $40, both feature the same core games, and both were released on the same day. So inevitably, there were some comparisons between the two when it came to scoring.
The lack of the additional challenges, no online leader boards, the shaky framerate in some games with 3D turned on, and the elimination of multiplayer did play a role in the score going down a little bit. In the end, I felt like after giving COMPLETE a 9, a 7 was the right score for this one. But as I've said, on a personal level, SAGA is still my favorite as I like it on the small screen and being able to take it on the go.
On a side note, have you played through the third world of RUNNER yet with the 3D on?
This is still my favorite of the two releases, but the framerate really drug it down for me. RUNNER is my favorite of the games, and it was a bit shaky in the last two worlds with the 3D turned on. If it bothers you, just turn the 3D off. This is still an outstanding series and now it's in portable form. Just wish it ran a little smoother.
I don't care how much they evolve and change Final Fantasy, but I'd rather see them stick to the basics with Dragon Quest. This news of online play just dropped this one off my most-wanted list.
Great read! I kinda lost interest in StarFox after the SNES title, but I did get the chance to sit down with StarFox 64 3D last night and I was shocked at how good it was. They really did a nice job on this one.
Actually, SAGA was my personal favorite of the two titles. And trust me, you don't want tilt controls for a 3D game unless you want to throw your neck out trying to stay in the system's 3D sweet spot. LOL
I don't think I ever remember a more pathetic effort from Nintendo for one of their game systems in all the years I've been playing their games as the one for the 3DS. I hope they turn this one around, but with things like this still happening, I'm not so sure anymore.
I haven't turned my 3DS off since the day I unboxed it a few weeks before the launch. I always leave it in sleep mode and just place it on the dock at night before I go to bed. And adding a regular save function would greatly take away most of the game's challenge to me. In truth, even at only 30 minutes a day, it shouldn't take you more than a couple of days to finish the game anyway.

I definitely prefer the NA cover art on this one.

Re: Review: MotoHeroz (WiiWare)
@Sneaker13 - If ever two games deserved a 10, it's MotoHeroz and BIT.TRIP RUNNER as they are the epitome of what WiiWare should be.
Re: Mutant Mudds
Just spent the past week playing this game and it's absolutely amazing! 60% more than it's worth my ass.
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd September 2011 (Europe)
Since when is Cut the Rope available on Wii? Did I miss something?
Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd September 2011 (Europe)
Wow TwinBee 3D AND Cut the Rope! I hope these two hit in North America. I still play Cut the Rope on the iPhone all the time.
Re: Review: MotoHeroz (WiiWare)
Guess I need to try this Trials HD now. It seems I've been missing some gaming goodness and that I can't have.
Re: Review: MotoHeroz (WiiWare)
This game just flat out rocks!!! Well-deserved 10!
Re: Review: BIT.TRIP SAGA (3DS)
Post #59 sums it up. You're a little late to the game as we've already discussed most of this.

It's spelled "Favorites" on the NA eShop.

I've had this review written for about 2 weeks now. I got the final build about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
Re: Review: BIT.TRIP COMPLETE (Wii)
The SAGA review is written, just waiting on the retail copy to come tomorrow to check a few things. Then it will be up too.
Re: Site News: Nintendo Life's eShop Appearance
We fought this list out amongst ourselves, trust me. It wasn't pretty.
Re: Review: BIT.TRIP COMPLETE (Wii)
Don't feel badly guys, I preordered from Amazon three weeks ago and now mine says it won't ship until September 20th. Sheesh.

@zranoll - I don't like the new Gaijin logo either. The old one rocked!

The 3rd world of RUNNER was the best!

Re: Feature: BIT.TRIP SAGA vs. BIT.TRIP COMPLETE
No, the saves from the WiiWare games do not work on COMPLETE. You're gonna have to start from scratch on this one.
